When I was an awkward and shy teenager growing up in the 70s music helped me through some tricky times but also helped me find life long friends and a sense of purpose. All these years later music is still creating real friendships but now on a global scale. I feel honoured to be part of this. It’s just fantastic being amongst likeminded people who love music, CDs, Vinyl and discovering new stuff! Thank you - Phil

I found Now Spinning Magazine because I had just purchased The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's 5cd box set (=their first five albums), and something like a week later you reviewed some version of SAHB's Next on the channel. I had probably searched for a bunch of SAHB's live performances on YT, and thus that video also popped up. I don't think I commented, but still remember it as a nice coincidence.
Interesting backround info, Phil. Music has certainly been a savior in my life too.

When I discovered Sea of Tranquility during the early days of the pandemic, it made me listen to music differently. Then I join the Contrarian Patreon page and I get on panels. Then some of us reached out to each other on social media and became friends and everyone started their own channels. I have done shows with Grant, Jamie and even contributed to a book Martin wrote.
When I started doing shows on my own, it wasn’t going to be anything with any regularity until I started doing the W.A.S.P. series and even then I was ready to go out. I credit my co captain John the Music Nut for us to keep going because we developed such a great chemistry.
Do I see myself appearing on Sea of Tranquility? I would be honestly surprised for the invite. But I don’t expect it.
I enjoy the people that I have gelled with and it really is a wonderful thing to know that you meet people that if you grew up down the road from each other, you would be best buds.
Am I a tech person? Far from it. I don’t have fancy lighting or anything to see in my room. I have an old computer with Zoom. But if 520 people subscribe to my channel and seem to enjoy what I bring to the table, that’s awesome! I still find it hard to believe.
    Great show guys!

During Covid is when I ran across SoT. I seen a couple other ranking channels and they just seemed kinda of boring. Something about SoT just grabbed me. When I commented and suggested you doing favorite bands A to Z and you actually did it and said this suggestion came from one of your viewers, even though you couldn’t remember my name, I thought that was pretty cool. I was like, this guy actually reads the comments. I felt like I found a home and made a new friend. Then really got to know the rest of the crew you have and I felt like I made new friends, even though I personally don’t know any of you. Then you started doing Monsters Den and that just added something else that I’m into. I’ve been watching every day for 4 yrs now. Sometimes I comment and add my rankings. Sometimes I just comment great show. Sometimes I don’t comment at all. I just watch and listen. I get in the chat room quite a bit at 9:00a.m. During my work break. One thing is I watch every day and always hit the like button. Bottom line is SoT feels like family and friends. I watch Contrarians quite a bit and occasionally watch guitar hack. Thank you Pete for all you do and big thank you to all on Monsters Den, Hudson Valley Squares, UK Connection, and all other guest that help make this channel the best damn channel on RUclips.

I started watching SOT whilst recovering from a knee operation back in 2023 & it’s now become very much a part of my daily routine. Whilst ‘In the prog seat’ is nearest to my personal taste, I’ve enjoyed most of the output & it’s also been responsible for introducing me to newer bands I would not otherwise have encountered & older bands I missed first time around. I’m 70 & whilst the 70’s is probably the time when I was most engaged with rock music I’ve continued to enjoy it both live & on record & CD. I love the discourse & camaraderie on the various shows . As a Brit the humour from Simon & Stephen on the UK Connection is particularly amusing especially when Pete is puzzled by an obscure to him UK reference. Todays ‘Creator’ vid was a really illuminating watch & I particularly resonated with the chat about your friends coming round to look at your album collection, something entirely lacking in my life now. It’s really great to see such enthusiasm on display, I hope future generations will get to enjoy ‘rock’ music as much as I have in over 60 years of listening.

As a longtime viewer of all your programming, let me express my gratitude for the content you guys provide. None of us has met (OK, I haven't met you), but we share a kinship of music and genuine passion for what we enjoy. Your comments about clickbait and negative content hit home, Pete, John and Phil, as episodes labeled as such turn me off. I prefer intelligent musical discussion among like-minded folks I respect and whose "company" (virtual, in this case) I truly enjoy. Also, I'm just one viewer, but seldom do I watch video with only one host or guest. I need two or more individuals to make these episodes worthwhile. The banter, humorous exchanges and insights offered by the "Holllywood Squares" or "Brady Bunch" formats are essentially viewing for me (i.e.: Hudson Valley Squares, etc.). Keep on cranking the content, guys. And don't despair, Pete: though your summer ratings may be low, my viewership remains constant year-round.

As for Martin, I grew up a metal head in Toronto and was a teenager in the early mid 90’s. He has always been a huge part of our scene since I can remember. Years later (in 2000) I was playing bass in a band called Jaww and we used one of Martin’s paintings for our LifeTimeBomb album cover. Thank you for that show. My first show of Sea of Tranquility was the History of Whitesnake 6 years ago and I did a follow up with Pete and Chris Alo History of Black Sabbath 1& 2 shows. I have been a fan ever since. One of the great features of SOT is the fact that a lot of the Show members are professional Rock journalist. I’m going to break down what I like about each member. Pete Pardo just has a fantastic ability to sell wholeheartedly whatever he’s talking about with passion. I really appreciate Grant Arthur’s approach at the graphic level on his shows. It really shows, and he is the top visual designer of any of the members. Then I really like about Phil Aston he sets up the visuals where he’s on one side of the screen, and on his table he has a little stand, where he can put the physical media and you can see it really clearly without any glare, a real simple process, it looks great. Jamie Lazlo has designed a giant HD television behind his set, which holds logos and topics which really is a great unique design that I haven’t seen on anybody RUclips show. Pete and Ken Golden on the Professors Pic have really cleaned up the look of their presentation with the sea of Tranquility logo on right and the giant album covers where you can really appreciate the album artwork. and see what Ken is trying to sell. Martin is probably one of the experts on this type of music and it’s just an amazing guest always. Lair of the Alchemist. has good strong audio, but nothing fancy on the visual realm and once again holding up physical media style. Rob Asante and Chris Cans goes the extra digital mile visually on H.V.S. show. In the Prague Seat Show, Chad has a really nice presentation and George does the little digital thumbnail album covers which looks really good. but his camera seems to be out of focus and his framing seems to be really weird where there’s a lot of ceiling in his video. 80% of these podcast shows where people are holding up album covers or CDs. I understand it’s necessary when you’re doing a variety of pics, but a lot of them really do don’t do justice to the cover or the product due to glare .A solution like with where Phil sits to the left side of the screen and has a little rack on the right side of the screen that holds his physical media with no glare and then talks about while the viewer is looking at the physical media it just as a nice clean presentation instead of waving media art around . I’m in the live entertainment business video Director for major rock bands. that’s why I’m so particular about visual presentations. Some simple blocking ,camera angles and lighting set up that are simple fixes could improve some visuals throughout Sea of Tranquillity shows. Thanks hope this is constructive criticism ,I am big fan of the channel.

Fantastic video. Yeh...we are just fans.
I started watching SOT when the lockdown happened, I did a search for Classic Rock Album reviews and up it popped. I've been watching regularly ever since. I started up my own Facebook Reviews page...it ain't nothing too serious...just music and films and I'm OK with that. I am lucky to have a local independent record shop in my town where I go and get my physical copies of music...I do stream as it's convenient so I guess I got the best of both. There are times when I think "man, I'd love to be a guest or contribute...say on The UK Connection" (I live in the UK) but as with most commenters...it's just a dream and that is fine. Keep up the great work guys.

I first got into this after I had bought a few of Martin's, excellent, books. I clicked on the SoT pod and saw him and Pete talking and I thought this a good place for me. Watched it ever since - and bought a few more books from Martin (and no they didn't send me to sleep - as per your note Martin 😄) directly since. It also fits in with my completist type rabbit hole brain, not in terms of completist own every album, in terms of best efforts at knowledge completism ( impossible task - thus a worthwhile effort). I love lots of other types of music ( I still DJ out occasionally and it will be pop/disco/afrobeat pop etc - no rock at all as that doesn't fit the gig) so have many other music rabbit holes but this channel has educated me and I really enjoy it. I bought the Aviary album (UK press) the other day only because I saw it on one of these pods. The love of the music is the key - keep it up.

Pete said something that connected to developing thoughts I’m having. He talking about how people shouldn’t go on what he says, or something like that. Years ago I downloaded the first 2 Magma albums. I wasn’t crazy about them, so I haven’t been listening to them. I’ve heard Pete say he can’t stand the band. He doesn’t like the vocals. That backed up my own thoughts, supporting my feeling to avoid it. But in the past year & a half there has been a major change in me. I went from rejecting Jazz to opening up to Jazz, mainly Free Jazz (not so much with Fusion that Pete raves about). About a week ago I decided to listen to the first Magma album. I loved it. I thought, this is Free Jazz. This is what I want to listen to. To hell with what Pete says, it’s time for me to listen more to this group. Today I bought the third album… it was not like that first one. It was almost all singing. I didn’t mind it too much, but wasn’t crazy about it. I looked into things and I learnt that the first 2 albums are more Jazz, then the band took a new direction. So I’m not fully sure what’s going on. Maybe this almost constant singing on the third album is what the band continues doing on their following albums. Maybe this is what Pete talks about as being annoying. I might somewhat agree with him on that. Maybe the first 2 albums are the only ones I want to listen to. It’s too early for me to know where I stand on all this. I don’t know if I agree with Pete or not about Magma. I’ll have to listen more, form my own opinion. Do I agree with Pete about Magma or do I say to hell with what he thinks? I’m working on it.

This was an amazing episode, it’s awesome to just listen to you guys chat about such a range of different subjects and cool to get the inside info from the SOT family. Been a fan all the different shows for 4 years now. I’ve learned so much from the shows and discovered so much new music from you guys. Keep up the great work Pete and the crew! 😁

Fascinating watch gentleman. Thoroughly enjoyable watch. Good to see you Phil. As someone who fairly regularly falls asleep on the sofa and wakes up dressed with the TV on you might be interested to know Pete that 99% of the time I wake up to SOT and that’s nearly all the damned time.

The only thing I regret about this video is the 'like' I gave it does not register for all. Like so many others covid isolation propelled me to investigate entertainment options with YT being a major player. I do not do any other social media and naturally gravitated to music discussion and review channels. Somehow I watched an early video of Pete and of course was algo-ed into more content I enjoyed enough to become a subscriber. From that I discovered all the rest of the panel in their various shows and absolutely enjoy all of the content. Thank you all for the content and looking forward to 'part 2.'

Just like you I love music. I saw Pete’s ranking the albums of Ozzie, and was a fan of yours since. Thank you for exposing me to so many new bands and movies.as a fifty four year old blind man I was seen as weird for liking anthrax, slayer, Celtic frost and Venum. I used to try to sing like dio, but I never got it right. I think I would have been a good Kevin Debra though.

I totally agree with Pete about many people choosing to make negative comments about music or anything else for that matter. I think it’s not even about the subject matter but more about other things going on in life. Politics, family issues, work , health etc….People want to stick to early recordings when they were young without the stresses of life. If anything I appreciate new music ( from past bands as well as new young fresh bands such as “ new wave of classic rock”) even more because of the responsibilities of life. I really enjoy this community of music lovers. Thanks all👍.

    Thank you for your content(s).
I discovered SOT (and soon after the other channels) only about a year ago, when the YT algorithm finally recommended me some video(s) that felt really interesting. Soon I was kinda hooked and watched a ton of (mostly older) content; a music nerd's paradise!... Even though sometimes I can't help but feel slightly inferior and ignorant, since I'm not e.g. a huge metalhead or progger (quite selective regarding both genres).
So, can't be interested in absolutely everything, but certainly enough of it to keep me watching and occasionally making these stupid comments. 😊

It gives me the impression to actually know you (at least what you are sharing of your life). What is weird is that it’s a one way relationship, as I’m a nobody for you! Of course I am, but that’s no big deal. Because I love so much you sharing your musical passion. Thanks from Switzerland.

Lovely to hear all of you guys talking honestly about your passion, and what is life without passion in whatever form. I like that you don't do the clickbait just for the sake of doing clickbait. As a viewer why do I watch, well it's like been as Phil said down the pub having a chat about music with people who like the same type of music. I'd be very honest in my views on music in what I like and don't like, I do get some silly comments to my comments if I don't like a certain album or musician, and a few have said how can I comment on say a musician if I'm not one myself, which I'm not. Well I always reply with I'm not a chef but I do know what food I like and don't like. Anyway great show and extremely interesting.

Wonder if any of you had an extremely emotional reaction to one of your episodes? Especially if it was in person. I don’t have any RUclips or other channels but I will occasionally comment on various music videos. One day I listened to Foreigner’s “Double Vision “. Someone had posted that it was a perfect album. I said it was a great album but I thought two of the songs on side 2 were mediocre. I could tell by the guy’s reaction that it was good that we were not conversing face to face. And don’t get me wrong - I love Foreigner and that album but just about every album has some fillers.
Great episode and I hope you do more. It’s interesting getting your perspectives. SOT and all the other channels remind me of gatherings with my friends in the 70s and 80s when we would put on an album, kick back, drink some beer 🍺, shoot the breeze and discuss the music. Time and distance now makes that hard. Your channels allow us to commune with likeminded people. Thank you and your comrades for all your hard work and please keep it up!

I found Sot during Covid & found out about so much music from my past that I never knew existed that I now have in my collection. Great episode! Pete, in regards to early in the show when you said views are lower lately - I have a small insight into that as a long-time subscriber. There's something about the new thumbnails that doesn't jump at me like before. Can't explain why, closest I can muster is maybe it's not as recognizable as an SoT video than it was before? Something about just your face or the faces on panel shows in the thumbnail told me a new SoT video was out and I'd usually click it without even reading the title. Now it's kind of in reverse where a title of your new video will catch me and I look closer to see whose channel it is. (I guess that is somewhat of an explanation after all.) Hope that makes some kind of sense. Still love the show!!!

A cool idea for a show might be bands that drastically changed their sound for better or for worse. For example, early Alice in Chains were glam metal and then they went grunge(better). The Cult were post punk and then they went metal(debatable). TSOL were a great original SoCal punk band that did a full 180 and went hair metal when their original singer quit(worse). Just an idea...
