    59 minutes, great advice, never give up your power.
    Only you truly know your story, and that does provide protection in this world. By giving up your power your letting someone else tell your story, and that's not good.

    These is fabulous advice. Practical and applicable to the real world. It should be taught in schools and parents should teach them to their children. I am going to work on integrating these concepts into my life and take all my power back in every area and not relinquish it again for anyone. Thank you Professor Vaknin.

    Why they stood upon command? I'd say...
    •Social programming/conditioning.
    •An assumption there was a purpose and wanting to accommodate... like an experiment that required standing.
    •Knowledge of Professor Vaknin's work... a show of respect to a philosopher who has been instrumental in the understanding of psychology for many including myself.
    I'm not sure why I listened these in reverse order but I'm too lazy to correct it. Those would have been my answers to the opening question of this lecture.

  • @Vahagshow

    Thank you very much for this lecture. I live in Spain and people in the society does things in a very curious manner. For example there are many practices that are deemed normal but that actually exclude those who aren’t a local and there are many other things that the society deems normal but Actually they are harmful. Like drinking alcohol in the Monday morning at a terrace would be seen by society as something normal or smoking cigarette and throwing it on the street just like that every time he’s seen as normal by society. But we all can all agree that alcohol and tobacco and littering the streets like that in public is not healthy. So I am saying that what you said about, illness and normalcy being different things is so true. Because what society accepts as normal many times in Spain is mentally ill. And if I behave in a way that actually is good and helps others and is empathetic would be seen as something a mentally unhealthy person would do, so I feel like helping people in society in Spain is not normal and he’s actually harmful to that person. Because the society does control the actions of especially those who have nowhere else to go and have to live in public the homeless thank you very much for this lecture. I really appreciate all that you giveand I understand that your views are not mainstream and that’s why I love you so much.

    I want to add that all norms are learned from representatives of society that act in some order of authority and are able to influence our own norms. As for me I read books and listen to people and that’s how I create perceptions of my own world. I dont think I would be the same person of the environment I am growing in was different… sort of obvious

  • @lisabradley3987
    @lisabradley3987 2 года назад +6

    Do you think that as a species, we are adaptable enough to enjoy a truly solitary existence. i.e, that it becomes the norm and preferable? Could it be that being alone is conducive to our true nature now that we don’t need others to simply survive? What then happens to a human who has self states based on interaction with others? Is the state that we find ourselves in today the beginning of the end of the human race? After all we are a blip in evolutionary time and our self importance and achievements (if that’s the right word) as a species, is completely irrelevant to the universe. Just some thoughts, now for more coffee .

    Just your first 3 minutes. Wow. I was in Catholic school in the 90s (k-8) sitting during the flag and prayer refusing to do what the rest of my class mates were because i was aware then of the crimes being comitted on my young heart by my country and i felt it was wrong. And i was demonized in that environment. But ill tell you what. Im still the odd one out in those situations. Because Einstein said to repeat to infinity was the madness.
