This is one of the best amateur CG starship shots I've seen even in modern-day. It really looks like a real-world model shot in a traditional way. Lots of great nurnies and greebles and just the slow, lumbering nature of the camera movement makes it seem huge. Today's CG is flashy and amazing, but it's often missing the true cinematic depth and drama that real physical models shot on film can provide. This proves that CG can indeed capture that exactly if given the correct artist that knows how to reproduce such things.
Hey there, thank you very much!
Jaw drops, heart stops. Amazing work!
That Cruiser is just BEASTLY
Nice detail. Thats a lot of work. It is quite clear where your inspiration came from, but you threw a couple fresh tweeks into it
All these details looks amazing. Splendid work.
That's sweet. It's like good enough to be in a movie!
I got a nice mix of the original Battlestar Galactica and Star wars with a little spaceballs. Impressive.
Wow. That's alot of polygons. Must have taken an hour just to load into Layout. Excellent job!
Still holds up beautifully. NIce shot.
Love the lighting!
Star Destroyer much?
Nice detailed ship!
Best starcruiser ever seen!
DUDE I bow to your talent!!!
Wow, for a Moment there I thought I was looking at an extremely well made and highly detailed Physical Model! :O
This "Star Cruiser" looks distinctly "Star Wars Empire" to me.
that is absolutly brilliant perfect lighting exalent attention to detail
Perfect for space above and beyond 2 !
Thanks!
wow that's a lot of nurnies... love the details!
This is simply incredible work.
Freakishly gorgeous! WOW! WOW! WOW!!!!!!!
THAT IS FRAKING UNBELIEVABLE I GIVE 1 TRILLION PROPS TO THIS GUY WHO MADE IT that was really REALLY REALLY COOL
Oh my gosh that is SOOO much better in HD! lol wish I could do stuff like that...
I admire you and your work and skill.
Love it! a awsome desing btw!
Damn, I'd had to live on that planet. Looks like someone's in for a beat-down!
That is really, really good. The level of detail on the ship is astounding.
Awesome work,LightWave..............
The specularity on the hull really makes it stand out with the harsh lighting effects... very 2010-ish. (The movie, not the year. :) )
this is movie quality pal. amazing.
Love the gun batteries. Great job.
That is bloody good - got that sense of grandier from something that doesn't exist.
Nice ship... those guns in the back look like they'd turn out quite the lights show, both at the barrels and again on the target. O.O
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
IT'S TOO GOOD!!!!!
*Gets sucked into nothing as the Universe implodes on itself*
.... seriously this is nothing but amazing! (:
Very impressive looking ship. You've got a great level of detail without it looking random or pointless.
Impressive....Most Impressive!
Holy frak the quality of this is just as good as one the big sci fi shows. Frakking awesome. Where did you learn to this?
Beautiful!
Awesome design :)
Wow this is really well done o_o
The music is a bit too hyperactive for a beauty shot of a ship drifting by, but the ship itself looks really neat.
Thanks! Yes, i run a 3D club for beginners.
@grayvickfilms Hey, thanks! I didn´t use GI here, to keep down the rendering time. Just a few additional fill-lights... ;)
Incredible.
Wow! Has it been ten years!!!!!!
It could easily be part of star wars,it maybe as well have more details than the models used there :)
Gr8 job m8
im blown away.
definitely one of the best youtube vids i've ever seen. this 1 brief vid was more entertaining than that piece of crap movie posing as a star trek. 2009
WOW. That is simply amazing...the kind of 3D work I aspire to.
I understand that you did not make the model, but how much of that detail is modeled on and how much is textured? Or do you have a poly count of the model?
And the lighting is excellent. Did you do any manipulation of the ship materials/textures/surfaces to get that sheen effect? I personally use 3DS MAX9 and am not familiar with LightWave, but I assume that there are probably some basic similarities between the two.
Thanks! Actually, just did a simple noise image in Photoshop and played with the contrast until i had a few stars. I then added some glow effect and viola!
Really nice
An outstanding segment Dreamlight3D professional quality work. I would like to see that star cruiser maneuvering as in a battle 'Majestically' to bring its main batteries to bear on an enemy and reacting to impacts from its enemies return fire before it settles the issue with a single massive broadside! Something like Reliant vs Enterprise times 20 in Khan's initial attack.
@TerranRedsky Will check em out. Many thanks for the tip. I did end up rendering in a larger Q.time output which was ok. Nicer though when there are no frames. ie: full screen.
Cheers.
Yes they are! :)
Actually just working on material for a demoreel! :)
Holy Hell
Dude that is fking bad ass!
Def. makes me keep modeling to get better
amazing
I don´t do much modelling, so yeah - it´s bought at Renderosity.
The only way this could be better is if the Starcruiser jumped to light speed at the end. :D
Reminds me of Spaceball One... with the back 4/5ths chopped off.
Thanks! :)
Hey there, thanks!
The editing took quite a while because of all the audio work. I really wanted to get the engines to sound right. I think i ended up with 8 layers of audio to get it done. And then i re-rendered the sequence several times to get the right glow/bloom effect. You know, things can look great on a single frame - but when you render the final edit, things can look really bad... :) On top of that, i had a missing frame that i couldn´t find! :)
I don´t do modelling. It´s bought at Renderosity for $30 or something... ;) Setting up the scene, lighting, surfaces, rendering and editing took three days...
this is AWESOME :-P yes I have limited knowledge but still incredible ^_^
EPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC
You should model spacecraft for games r something this looks sick nice nice nicely done Respect!
whats the poly count on that thing?
looks like something that could be in star gate
you used a render farm?
avg render times per image?
=0 looks great
Opps, that´s excluding the rendering which took 68 hours at HD resolution... ;)
Wonderful vid! I'm wondering, how did you make the ship? Did you make it yourself? or was it something you downloaded? Any answers would be great!
You can use "Brute Force GI" (non interpolated) in Lightwave since version 11 and get some really amazing render times. Since this happens in space it can render especially fast and look even more awesome than it does. If you want I can even rerender it for you on a 22cpu LW farm just to see how awesome it looks. Amazing work!
Thank you! I added dual procedural layers to the textures to get them a bit more "war-worn"... The poly count is ridiculous... :) 1,100,000 polygons. The sheen effect is done in postwork during editing, using Sony Vegas Pro 8. Yeah, i´ve heard some great things about 3DS MAX 9!
I really want to explore that ship more
@Dreamlight3D Its over 9000 !!!!
Nice 3D model and nice animation :p
17 antialiasing passes !!!! You crazy dude !! ,you can have a realy good result with only 3 passes !
oh shit, you should make a movie!!
@Dreamlight3D Can you render 1080p version? Please!
Darth Vader called........he wants his star destroyer back.
Sweet stuff, man. Looks like a Star Destroyer on 'roids.
So, when is the movie comming out and who's playing in it?
it's a trailer right?
(I know it isn't, but just to say I find it very good ;))
WoW! where are they going I want to go!
nice--model must have taken forever!
7 hrs video/audio editing?
Yeah! But 60,000 verts? Sounds like you could add a bit more RAM. That helps A LOT!
Sure thing!
First of all the ship doesn't need to be "stream lined" because its traveling in the vacuum of space ware there is no friction. Just refer to the Borg ships in Star Trek the next generation witch were giant cubes, they had no problem getting around. Secondly if there advanced enough to build a ship like that i'm sure they've figured out how to create artificial gravity. Also i'm sure there intelligent enough to slow down and enter into a safe orbit around the planet before slamming into it.
This looks really good. But why is the ship accellerating into a planet? How is gravity created on board the ship or does everyone just float around. There is no "stream lined" profile to the ship what so ever so it won't be able to go very fast without tearing itself apart. Maybe it could get up to 0.1 the speed of light.
Looks familiar, I remember making this model a few years back. I've since reworked it to add some more detail while at the same time decreasing the poly count. There's a short video on my page if you're interested.
I like what you've done with the materials and angles/camera movement. It feels like it's unstoppable.
Hello - great animation - where did you get the model?
Thats a lot Pete! Actually, several years of trial and error in 3D graphics, 20+ years of filming and editing... ;)
nice work, how did you do?
Que bestia de nave.
@Rilurio I was actually thinking an SSD crossed with an MC80 (don't ask me why)
@superflytiedye what else would he need? it's not like there's character animation involved. Lightwave is perfect for spaceships.
PLEASE WORK FOR Robert Space Industries !!
I wish i could see your gorgeous space ship in Star Citizen !!!!
21 hours to set up. Sorry, i use commercial versions of all 3D software.
Because i think he is Star Destroyer: Check Tyrant Class Interdictor Cruiser.
@superflytiedye yes...unfortunately it's a pretty obscure program considering what it can do. Why? because it's not owned by Autodesk, which pretty much has the 3d monopoly right now. Autodesk is the Disney of the 3d software world.
what kind of club? like is it a class you do at a college or a thing over the internet? If its over the internet then i would really like to join after seeing this
did u use an online render farm, cuz wow youll have to be patient to be able to render a 1 min animation for 68 hrs
awesome! a couple of slow strobing lights would be a nice touch just to add some life although if it's a baddy then dark is ok ;0)
How can I render my 3d animation to play full screen on my computer?? If anyone can help me with this question I'd be very grateful. Quicktime seems to play it in a small window...help!
Wow, how many verts and faces did that ship have?
Wow, how many polys is that ship?
