- Remembering the life of Dan Conners the Forgotten Legend
Get ready to dive into the fascinating story of Dan Conners, a name that may not be immediately recognized when discussing the legends of the Oakland Raiders but played a crucial role in the team's history.
Conners was Al Davis' first draft choice after assuming the role of head coach and general manager of the Raiders in 1963. He was shifted from the defensive line to linebacker and became the defensive anchor of the team for an incredible 11 years.
For professional football players in the 1960s and early 1970s, few things were as terrifying as seeing Raiders' middle linebacker Dan Conners coming their way.

A great Raider for a lot of years.. very underappreciated...55
A great Raider. I went to school with his son in the late 70s in Pleasanton.
I grew up in St. Marys, across the street from one of Dan's high-school teammates. They used to play touch football in a field beside their house. I remember Dan carrying me down the field to let me score a "touchdown," and I remember watching him play in high school. He always made the town proud.
I remember him well. He was all over the place. Up there with Nitschke and Buoniconti.
As a Kansas City Chiefs fan I had the opportunity to watch Dan Conners play at Municipal Stadium in Kansas City several times. He was always a very tough, competitive and smart pro linebacker and was IMO the lynchpin of the Raiders 1960's defense. Not sure if he is Hall of Fame worthy (he is in my mind) but he is truly one of the greatest linebackers in the 10 year history of the AFL. I despised him because he was a Raider but I respected him because he was such a great pro. RIP Dan and thank you for the great memories. Long Live the AFL!
Dan told me a couple of years before he passed away that if he was in the "Immaculate Reception " play, "It wouldn't have happened "! The only play he was in on defense the entire game. Dan was a great guy and fellow alumni of SMAHS ..
Watching from St.Marys, PA
Still have the letter he wrote back to me back to me in '69 after asking for his autograph.
dan Conners was a beast ! Great player who was very underrated !
Conners' brother Bob Conners was a very popular morning drive-time DJ in Columbus, Ohio for many years. Listened to him nearly every day. 610 WTVN.
I knew Dan. Awesome person!
Pittsburgher here...I was in my 20's when Oakland played Pittsburgh in the 1970s. Nuff said. Never heard of this guy. He has my upmost respect. Thankyou for this vid on him.
Great story. Well said. Thanks. It was hard but I liked the raiders and the steelers. GO FIGURE!
As a kid I loved the Colts and the Raiders. Conners was one of my favorites as a grizzled old vet with a battered and scratched up helmet to match. Born and raised in Watsonville, CA. and have lived there all my life. Always favored the Raiders over the 49ers until they moved to Vegas.
Great stuff. I still bleed silver and black!!
True Raiders fans are familiar with his contributions to the defense!
Very Under Rated !!!
Dan Connor was a good solid middle linebacker
Agree with the Immaculate Reception speculation and also think he could have got to Brady earlier to cause a fumble in the Tuck Rule Game.
You've given Conners his deserved props....now give some to one of my fave Raiders, Art Thoms # 74
I remembered watching him because as a kid - I liked his number 55! Really enjoyed this video.
Thank you for putting the spotlight on this Raider legend. Much deserved & well done 👍🏻

Salute to Dan Connors an outstanding athlete and Miami Hurricane 🌀 , ❤😊 R.I.P
Dan Connors always told anyone who would listen that he was the one who, on Nov. 1, 1970, successfully argued with referees for Oakland's favorable ball placement against the Kansas City Chiefs that resulted in a 17 - 17 tie.
A great raider once a raider always a raider
So Cool , From Small Town USA ..............St. Marys Is A Shade Larger Than Clearfield .......... Heads For The University Of Miami .............. Then On to The Raiders ....... Thanks For this history Lesson .........
I always felt sorry for him and the others on the Raider D that came one year short of Superbowl victory
A great layer, God bless to his family.

In 1972, it was ILLEGAL for an offensive player to tip the football to a fellow offensive player.
Franco Might have caught the ball in the air, but, Frenchy Fuqua tipped the ball after Tatum got a finger on it! The Raiders actually won the game, 7-6.
Several Raider players, and, may be Coach Madden, also, said: "we was robbed!!".
Awesome! Raiiiidersss!
The leader of the 11 angry men Oakland Raider defense!
Must have been some spirited practies w/ him & Otto.
Connect’s WOULD have altered the immaculate deception, no doubt in my mind. Either Franco would have been taking his walk well away from where he was or Conners would’ve nailed him!
He could have made a difference, he was Johnny on the spot. He was good & consistant.
Excellent Research! An Original AFL 🏴☠️ Also a UM Defensive Legend along with 🏴☠️ Ted Hendricks. He helped build "A Commitment To Excellence" 💪🏻 🏴☠️ 👍🏻
A former Miami Hurricane great
He was immortalized on Roseanne
he was tooo slow
You Can't be too slow, or does Al Davis not know what he is doing.
