Awesome video! Thought about getting this, but ended up going with a Sigma 35mm 1.4 on my R5ii. I like the metal build of the Sigma a bit more over this one. I like the aperture ring, but it doesn't feel too necessary considering I have step up rings and variable NDs that I use on my bigger lenses. Definitely an interesting lens, but I feel like Canon almost "jumped the gun" with this one and gave us an incomplete product. They'll probably fix all of the little issues with a Mark II sometime down the line though and that MIGHT get me to jump to that lens.
That’s a good way to sum it up. It is the first in what Canon has said is going to be a new series of lenses so let’s hope Canon is taking the feedback seriously when developing the rest of the lineup. I’m glad to see them trying new things, but the Sigma is certainly still a great alternative. Hope you have been enjoying the R5 Mark II, have yet to see or use one but it looks like a great evolution of the R5.
You are going to be missing a few stops worth of shake reduction. With a lens without IS you are going to get about 5 stops of shake reduction compared to the 8 stops you usually get if the lens had IS. I found the camera only IBIS to be pretty good, you can handhold shot without much trouble, it also helps that it is a 35mm so it’s a little wider helping to not show the shake as much as something like an 85mm.
I 100% could see that haha. I’m interested to see the 3 new upcoming hybrid lenses to be released October 30th. Looks to be a 24mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4 and 70-200mm f/2.8 with internal zoom.
Really? That’s interesting, it’s a fairly common thing here in the states. I always keep a water bucket nearby just in case and you can get in a lot of trouble if you leave a fire unattended, but if you are smart about it, it’s not really a problem!
It's decent, I shoot it on my R5C. I hav wea video posted on my channel that I shot this lens with. Check it out to see what its capable of in low light. Cheers.
Your footage from it looked great, awesome location too! There isn’t a ton of footage from this lens yet so it’s nice to see what others are making with it, thank you!
Здравия!!! Как это верно! Я скромный любитель, но хочу видеть 1.2 его на свой камере! Очень уж сильно:)! Спасибо за прекрасные и Добрые кадры!!! Всего самого солнечного!!!@@JasonPischke
Nice review. Great images. Well put together.
I LOVE the footage you shot!!!! Although I have no plans to purchase the 35mm f1.4, thank you for creating this video
Haha thank you!! It’s a great lens, but $1,500 is a lot for a prime.
Thanks you for the review!

Appreciate that!! I have been so excited to review this lens, did not disappoint! So glad to hear you enjoyed it!

If shooting r5 like i got dont need to worry about stabilizing from the lens or still missing a coupke extra stops?

They had to leave something out or why would you have a reason to buy the 1.2. Stabilization on the way for $3000.

Mitten im Wald Feuer machen, hier in Deutschland unvorstellbar...

I am still waiting for 35 mm f/1.2
That would be a dream lens!! I haven’t heard much about an f/1.2 being developed, but would love to see one!
