Professor Tek, thank you very much for the video but I still have doubts, I am interested in a portable console (I don't travel occasionally) to use at home or on the couch, I have a good PC. Which one would you recommend? Here in Ohio the price difference is 120 dollars, with the rog ally being more expensive, the point is, what do you recommend?
Honestly, I don’t even care if the steam deck can’t play every game that a PC tower can play because at the end of the day that just makes me feel like my PC at home is still useful. I just want to have the steam deck so when I’m laying in bed or on the couch watching a movie I can just play some of my games casually I don’t need to be playing the latest call of duty on the highest settings and resolution on a handheld wire alarm, and a coffee shop or anything.
I chose Asus because it feels liek a handheld PC. I have access to all my games and, it would be easier for me to stream my actually gaming PC on. Thats way, i can relax on the couch and play Kingdom Come Deliverence while my gaming PC handles the load. All in all, both devices are fantastic and im glad there is competition. Also, i got a Z1 Extreme version Best Buy for $550 because it was "Open Box" lol. Anyway, amazing video! You earner a new subscriber lol
Rog is definitely better. If they can come out with an improved version of the Rog where they put a bigger battery , more POWER efficient OS, MOVE THESD CARD SLOT, HIGHER KNIT SCREEN, HAVE THE HEAT BLOW OUT THR BACK INSTEAD OF THE TOP, LESS BEZELS AND MAKE THE GRIPS A LITTLE BIT BETTER. ITLL BE A GREAT HANDHELD.
@michaelsoto4156 nah honestly the biggest gripes are simply the SD card slot location, battery life, and bezels. For many people's use case though these don't tend to be a problem though. I myself always have in plugged in and connected to a gaming monitor. I also installed a 2tb ssd inside so I have no need for an SD card.
@13:40 "If you're somone in the middle, as most people are..." - Indeed mate, that's exactly the issue🤣😂 By the way, did I hear that the Ally's sound is much better than the Steam?
Both good choices for sure. I see the SD af the Switch. I’m willing to not have the best graphics for portability. Also, if you’re wanting the best graphics and frames. You’ll play on desktop. It’s nice being able to play games I really wasn’t able to play. Cause as soon as it shows I’m online I get invited by friends lol
Can you bring a desktop overseas, in cruise-ship, in airport, or in your parents, friends, brother and sisters house? All that I've said can be played plugged-in. Portability doesn't necessary mean you can't plugged it in while playing portability means "the ability of software to be transferred from one machine or system to another'
Supposedly EA is working on a fix for it, it has to do with the Proton Anti-Cheat .so file that it uses to run the game without flagging Anti-Cheat's detection systems. Who knows when it'll be patched
@@JohnKowalski-nb1ud "Steam Deck is actually a PC 🤓" my brother in Christ we all know, but it delivers a "console like" experience, more so than the other options 😐
I like Deck's bigger screen, even though it's not VRR. However, I'm voting team Ally just for GamePass. If GamePass came out on Linux, I would keep the Deck.
That's fair. I don't do gamepass so I have the OLED myself. I don't like subscriptions and my games from other storefronts seem to work fine in SteamOS.
I couldn't decide so just bought both. After testing both for many hours. I kept Asus and Sold Steam Deck to friend. I don't think Asus is a better Hand Held just better for my needs.
Glad you had the chance to test and use both! In a prime world everyone could do this and find the right fit. Problem is no one store has all 3 to test in person so friends are most people's best bet for testing
And not to be too much of a hater of the Legion go, but you’re wasting your time with that it seems like that’s the third place device and at the same time it’s way bulky busy, so I think we’ve seen enough of that Legion and wanted to go lol 😂
I agree. It's a design flaw. But swapping out the SSD anyone can do and it's very easy. I have little to no experience doing such things and put in a 2TB with zero issues
You cannot go wrong with ROG ALLY, its a PC with crazy fast processor and you got windows, steam and xbox game pass straight out of the box, steam deck not a PC, its a straight gaming console and the processor is old tech even if you dual booted it will cause a lot of issues due to old and slow processing, the only thing I like the new SD OLED is screen and battery. Thats all
Cool that’s one point for the ally. I’m more of a plug and play person. Don’t like to tinker w settings. So ally is better? You also mentioned that the ally doesn’t play steam games well?

I do feel like the downside being the steamdeck is 90hz. Like even my old cheap 200 dollar cell phone has a 120 hz display. How they let that fly by and let the Ally & Legion beat that is insane.
The chip inside of the steam deck isn’t strong enough to fully utilize 90Hz display anyways. This is the same for rog ally and legion. Especially Legion’s display is an overkill for z1 extreme.
Outside of smaller less demanding titles, none of the portable pc handheld can really take advantage of anything over 60hz. 90hz seems to be a good middle ground from a cost point perspective. The fact that BOTH of these consoles are sold at sub $600 levels (less when on sale) is kinda insane given what you get. It's a great time to game

Probably the Ally unless you happen to work with Linux already.

Portability which means the point should go to steam for power bro, you're getting one to play on the go
