You think a design like this is old??? This bus looks pristine again. They should do the right thing. If they do not have a need for these buses. Ship them to India. Parts of the Philippines. Indonesia. Africa, the Caribbean Islands. They have run down, shoddy looking buses in these countries. They would cherish these buses. This is a solid built and safe bus. Why send the majority of them to NIMCO for scrapping. Ship these buses to Cuba or something. I don't see why these transit agencies can't use their common sense. Ultimately transit buses should never be scrapped. They can be shipped to other countries
Man I haven’t ridden this buses in 10+ years I remember being on this bus and it was an amazing experience, the NovaBuses, Flixible, and the Neoplan were my childhood memories, unfortunately things can’t be the same anymore, but I’m glad I’ve rode on this bus as a kid and enjoyed it
Yeah I'm not a fan of the nabis.. NJT will probably get xcelsiors but I think it would be cool if they ordered some novabus lfs buses but it's unlikely
Those nova RTS buses could have done 20 years down the road if there's parts for these buses personally I would converted from a Cummins ISC engine with the ZF ecomat 5HP 590 transmission to the mighty 6V92 TA DDEC engine with VR 731 Allison Transmission if I decided to pursue one of those buses
I remember that NJ Transit also had a few Millennium RTS Legends in their fleet that also could have lasted for quite some time as well but I believe they sold them to another Transit Agency.
I think NJT has a small number left that I really honestly think they won't get rid of..........at least for now. I think that Newark - Parsippany route still uses them. Listen you can't not salvage a legacy like the RTS bus. Prime example, go to Cuba and see how well they preserve the old cars from the 1940s and 50s.
6v92 is nice but it's out of date. Emissions were terrible. Series 50 much more improved. Better torque and runs cleaner........however it is still a greenhouse. Series 50 EGR raises the bar again. Even more power than the standard Series 50. Much Better torque. Slightly better emissions but still a greenhouse. In all reality you have to repower this RTS with the DD11. This is the direct replacement for the Series 50. The DD11 is a renaissance power plant because I dont think they sound anything like the Series 50. This is a new engine. Ultra low friction parts and copious amounts of power. The DD11 sounds like a Motorcoach engine.
I passed my employment exam at NJ Transit. I'm waiting for an interview and spot opening. It's sucks that I won't be able to drive these since they retired now
It's sad. I got to drive the transit sbe 2000 nova rts buses and they were surprisingly easy and fun to drive. The nova A had a crappy turning radius with wedge brakes(lock up prone), while the Nova B(like the bus in this video) had s-cam brakes( better braking)turned on a dime and sounded cool!
@@BusTVChan I want to clear up a lot of people's misunderstandings about the NABIs........... The CAT and Cummins engines sound spectacular and the sounds definitely resemble the MCIs. The NABIs have that Motorcoach essence just like the RTSs and 1994 Flixible Metros did. Honestly the NABIs have a more cushioned ride, better insulation and sound deadening. However, NJT should have stopped using the cushioned cloth seats. They are totally impractical! You really cant sit in a reclined position comfortably and it takes away from your legroom. They should have simply used the padded transit seats. And NJT is so dumb. Because if they have commuter bus routes then the seats should have all been motorcoach style seats and regular transit style seats for local routes. I personally don't even like the vinyl seats on the 5800s and up and the 6000s because they still don't let you sit in a relaxed position and they also take away from your legroom. NJT is also so stupid for obstructing the windows with lamination. Passengers need to see their surroundings so they know when to get off. Overall the window obstruction is not a good idea. It does create claustrophobia as well. The NABIs are not bad buses at all. It's just that NJT messed up badly in certain areas.
How many speeds/gears were these equipped with (5spd auto? 6spd auto?) Speaking of speed, I'd assume 70 mph gvr limiter lol? Thank you detailed cockpit view, was always curious what the driver had around them too!
I remember all the good memories of riding in a bus like that when it shut off in the middle of the road, and when the bus engine used to give me a serious headache. Not to sound dumb, but is there a way to buy buses like this and just take away the decals?
Your going to have a hard time finding an EX NJT Novabus RTS. You might be able to find buses online on various websites. Try Motors.ebay.com and look for the buses category under other vehicles
I found a rare 2007 Millenium RTS bus online for sale. I want to mail this place a letter or something to let them know about it. Maybe they can make it into a NJ Transit bus, they did operate them as test busses but failed sadly. I can show you the link. It would be nice to preserve a Millenium RTS bus in NJ Transit paint scheme.
We had these RTS buses in Baltimore. From 1980 til 1991. They didn't have Cummins deisels it was Detroit 4 stroke V8. They were some good running buses and fast too. I just didn't like the automatic back door. It gets stuck some times.
I'm glad they finally retired these buses they've been in service way too long we were all falling apart on the inside and out due to bad maintenance at all of the places where they fix all of the buses the new buses that are square or so much better they never break down and they are very good and all of the accents they've been in
You really feel that way Michael? The majority of people admire the RTS (Rapid Transit Series) bus. The NABIs have a more cushioned ride. Better insulation and sound deadening. However, NJT should have stopped using the cloth seats. They are impractical. You really cant sit in a reclined position comfortably and it takes away from your legroom.
@victorc5390 I agree, I do like the NABIs (2008 model) it gives me that old school vibe What really went downhill for me.. was the older MCIs retiring ever since then it was not the same.

I definitely agree with you

When I was I kid this was the bus I rided most of the time. I miss these buses so much, but clearly their time was up.
I think nj retired them earlier then needed but they are gone now.. so we can enjoy the nabi buses now haha.. but not for much longer
I personally hate the Nabi buses, I heard they might be replaced by the XD40s.
Yeah I'm not a fan of the nabis.. NJT will probably get xcelsiors but I think it would be cool if they ordered some novabus lfs buses but it's unlikely
I like the flexible grumman bus too
2:55 ,, built at Roswell Newmexico 🖖👽

Nyc still operated their 99’ Rts busses when this was filmed!
Damn I miss this bus
RTS buses are becoming a thing of the past
I wish someone in this country would put in an order at millennium

Here is another RTS a short one i found in Laredo TX some time ago --> ruclips.net/video/2jpND0o4AFM/видео.html
Actually nevermind I found a lot of them on line for sale thanks anyway
Before the NABIs, We had these🔥
Yeah I like these better then the nabi buses tho
@@BusTVChan I agree
those are good buses

bus seats look nice.
NJ Transit artwork. The seats are cool.
I'm surprised that this bus did not initially come with or wasn't retrofitted with a Wheelchair Lift System.
This bus does have that
Take another look, you will see that the rear door is whrere it is located
Yep I looked over that the first time and I missed it, okay thanks.

Michael Hayden
You kidding me? MTA had their RTS busses for over 20 years.
Jack The PBS Kid
As Metrocard busses only.
Busses not the same without the flexible grumman bus and rts. I hate nabis. NJ Transit when downhill since the nova bus is gone.
I definitely miss the old Fleet and I'm starting to miss the newer older Fleet that is retiring but not the Navy's I'm talking about the mcis
