I think he might have Gilbert's Syndrome and there is nothing he can do about it but hold in the pain and inflammation all over his body and mind because there are barely any doctors who really care or can try to help him get the supportive care he needs. So he slowly erodes in silence with no medical support.
Literally all that happened was probably a guy walking in, sitting down, and staring at the wall like he just fried his brain with some whacked out drug for a quarter minute.

There are some from last albums. And sadly, this won't be the exception.
"In my mind, endless sea, calling from the bottom but you don't hear me." This is how depression can feel for a lot of people; screaming yet no one can hear you. Endless thoughts that require an outside force to save you from.

I mostly agree, but the only legitimate issue with this song Id argue is how abrupt of an ending it had. That's just my opinion tho. Still love the song and especially the chorus

Everytime I try to talk to my friends and family about how amazing this band is and how incredible and transforming their music is, they shut me down. This band has been in my life for years and every new song I hear heals my heart a little more. I am so beside myself with this song and it brought me to tears. Whenever I hear his voice, I'm reminded I'm not alone in my pain. Much love to starset, to Dustin, and to this fucking amazing community of lovers.
I honestly don't understand how Starset is not a household name. They write so many super unique and poppy catchy songs.

He also mentioned (i believe it was a facebook comment) that these songs were done in a lower key that was easier to maintain and less strenuous on his voice apparently.

Ok I confess I seen them during Vessels, but he certainly was the weakest link at the time.

Sometimes it's still hard for him to keep reaching those really high parts over and over again but I must admit singing Starset songs takes a LOT of power hahah. But yeah it sounded really good when I saw them :) (I agree though, during Vessels his live vocals weren't,,, the best. I admire how much he trained and improved)

2:52 onwards gives me absolute chills. The chorus is great, but this is the best part of the song for me. You can hear the raw emotion in Dustin's voice here. Easily one of the best songs that they have written. I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite song of the album.

9 months later and the whole album has released, is it still your favorite? Personally, Diving Bell has been my favorite song as soon as I heard half of it on kingdom leaks 2 days before the official release, and that hasn’t changed at all.
@@elib4400 Yeah, definitely still my favorite. Don't get me wrong, a few songs come close, like Trials and Solstice, but nah, Diving Bell is a song I will never get tired of. By far the best song on the album in my opinion--a damn good album at that.

This is one of those songs that just sums up depression so well for me. It's like a feeling of sinking a d drowning, but there is so much emotion that you aren't sure if you can swim through it to the surface. Then there are the times where you are fine and then suddenly you are in the throws of depression being tossed around.
The feeling of relief I get from listening to this song is beyond describable.

Manifest has the feeling of an upcoming battle, like victory and defeat are both equally possible outcomes for the future.
Where the Skies End has a triumphant and victorious sound to it.
Diving Bell has a much more defeated and desperate sound to it.

Very interesting, this album does give out a lot of mixed vibes, like are they victorious, or defeated, does he fall into the darkness, or rise up a hero? It's confusing.
This album is a continuation of the events in Transmissions. There's a whole story arc behind these songs, I recommend.

Heavy or not, I enjoy every single one of their songs.
Imo the heaviest lyrics the song have to offer is this line.
"Prepare the diving bell, maybe just for a spell, again."
It seems to symbolize a further descent into a crushing depression and finding an unfortunate comfort within it, causing the person to be content, or even have a false sense of joy in cutting themself off.
And then there's the addressed party, being a friend or family or lover, that seems to be content with this behavior as well. Perhaps allowing the speaker to isolate for some time is good for them, but it seems that they're unaware enablers of self destructive behavior. "Calling from the bottom but you don't hear me," it seems that a deep part of the speaker knows that this isolation is bad and is calling for help, but the addressed party doesn't, so to say, pull up the diving bell and decompress the speaker from this reckless dive.
And, "you'd be happy just to float here on your own," makes it seem like the speaker doesn't see the addressed party as actually caring about the speaker's wellbeing, or otherwise that they don't know how to actually help. The albatross crashlands may be a resort to substance abuse or other illegal/immoral behavior. Unplanned, leading to a sinking feeling of exile from home, maybe that's why the addressed are happy to float alone, ignoring cries from the bottom: they aren't prepared to rescue someone from a shipwreck and so gave up on our speaker after he went too far with his dive.

Literally the only second of the album that I didn't like, that masterpiece deserved a blazing send off.
@@reaperthacreeper4614 Actually the "g" is my favorite part in the whole album. The tension builds up all along the way, and right when you expect it to burst... the sound just cuts off. The song just throws you back into reality. It's the moment when you "crash land" after "heading for the sand" for a while. It's only this moment when you realize how much you have been absorbed into the music, the "abyss". It just leaves so much to think about, and the real ending to the album's narrative is what happens in your mind in the time gap between Diving Bell and the outro.
The outro is not really an ending to the album's narrative, but an epilogue from a different perspective (hence the difference voice) and a prologue to what's next as well - one that tells you to "wake me when the new day comes", whether it be a new album, another song in your playlist, or a repetition of the album.
The narrative focuses on the BMI and immersing yourself into a fantasty, just as the album immerses you into its amazement, and then you switch the BMI and "wake up" and come back to your own reality of your life

Also, could “the hours lost crash lands” actually be “the albatross crash lands”? An albatross is a sea bird (basically a seagull) that actually has a metaphor that talks about an albatross being a psychological burden that feels like a curse! I could be super wrong though. @@tracymaines3463 haha, I did discovered starset before downplay, after all IMO, this band still has a pure core music from the downplay isn't it...I'm sure I'm not the hardcore fan of rock metal kind of music, but the starset is one my exceptional, rather than pop main stream music it's make my ear bleeding
It's been two years, and I don't think I ever realized how painfully sad this song was. Was so caught up in the mixing and the performance that I completely forgot to give this song the analysis it deserved.

Gut-wrenching, if I think about it. Maybe I'm getting it wrong, but this sounds like suicidal thoughts. The narrator is wanting to push people away, but reassure them that everything is cool and that they're gonna come back. But internally, they don't see anywhere to swim to. The metaphorical diving bell has gone too far down, and they don't feel like they can save themselves. And once things have gone too far, they're broken on the bottom, completely helpless.
Still love the song, but this is way sadder than I remember it being.

Im OBSESSED with starset. Their songs sound like "nighttime" and those are my favorite songs. It makes me feel like I'm in a pretty forest with a long pale blue flowing dress in the starlight 😥❤

1:00 now that has got to be one of the most beautiful things I've heard in a while. The voice on those high notes has so much emotion, especially in that quieter version of the chorus
When this song came out, I didn't understend it at all, but I could feel it, I was in a really bad situation there, and I felt this song without understend it, now its been almost 3 years since Diving Bell came out, and remembering how painful my life was, with my mind in cold, a understend evertword, even the phrase of "If I stare into the abyss, will it stare into me?" This is a phrase of Nietzsche, with the meaning of "The abyss is the senseless of life and if you stat there for long, you will suicide (stare into the abyss )
Heard Manifest on the radio today. Starset has arrived and now the masses will know what they've been missing.

If I'm correct about my theory that 'WHERE THE SKY ENDS' being about the android's realizing that they CAN think more things that what they're programmed to do; then I think the video is more on the emotional side of discovering the freedom to feel, but with such a vast ocean of emotions to sort through the need someone to help teach and guide them, hence the strange person is shown in the video.
I don't think that the people in the videos are androids; rather, people who have been given implants in order to inhibit what their government considers negative emotions/actions. Hence the alliance propaganda plastered on the walls in Manifest.

0:31 I'm actually sitting in the early morning light listening to this and my table looks exactly like that. A bottle of whiskey. A bottle of rum. A bunch of glasses. And me just sitting there staring at nothing. Maybe Starset is trying to tell me something.
For the meaning of this song, it tells about marine experiences. A man was going to go inside the "diving bell" to descend to the bottom of the sea while letting his loved one staying on the surface. As he was not willing to dive, he imagined what would be like if he was gone. His mind was troubled for the journey ahead and his loved one as well. This is metaphorical; the bottom of the sea is probably the addiction/depression/loneliness. His loved one is probably what he cares and loves the most. To me, the song is about his mind on "divisions" about his cravings and his precious things. What a depressed yet so beautiful song
I dig metaphors... I have a different take ... I have oftentimes wondered why I can't keep things even... Relationships especially.. I can care about someone deeply.. Love them.. but I feel misunderstood and seperate myself from them when this becomes obvious ... so I sink into myself - low. I go deep into a myopic depression whilst they might feel insecurity feeling its because I dont care for them .. calling from the bottom but you dont hear me ..I love them though .. I don't feel like they are hurting when I take a break .. I feel like they are more relieved... but I cant even explain why im hurting.. just - prepare the diving bell .. I relate to it personally

Such a crazy ending to the concept narrative set up in this album. I sort of picture the whole thing as the narrative of an individual trying to break out of a controlling society and dreaming of inciting revolution, but in the end failing and sinking hopelessly into their own depths

Eric I just keep noticing that every time I listen to this song I enjoy it and go crazy the whole way through but every time it ends I feel incomplete.
The song is actually 5mins and ends with some sort of weird chanting but they cut the outro for this video. You can actually find the full song right here on RUclips just search it up I just listened to the full version not long ago.

Omg, the ending. How it goes from calm to, Oblivion, and then to EVERYTHING! If I could cry, this song would lead me to it.
It stirs emotion of depression and the despair of solitude and the falsified feeling of futility of reaching out. Personifies the voices of the darker recesses of the mind which should never be headed... Yet it resonates quite powerfully.
Either way, this song is WAY awesome! Got it on constant repeat.

Honestly it's very reminiscent of Dustin's side project, MNQN. It kinda feels like he drew from the experience of that album for this.

Dustin Bates can go from incredibly high like at 1:00 to incredibly low like at 3:00 then to screaming passionately like at 3:12. THAT is a singer. And then the rest of the band just compliments him even more! One of the best STARSET's here.
