We had this played at my Sons funeral . He passed away Christmas 2019 . We buried him 2 years ago tomorrow. His Birthday is in 8 days he would be 32 TJ will be 29forever . Hold your babies tight you never know when that last day will be . Girls and Boys call your Momma’s we live you even if we aggravate you guys .
I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful son. My son, my only living child, will be 32 this September. I could not live without him. My love to you from one Mum to another from Australia. Xx
The song (as many of Pink Floyds mid to late period songs are) is definitely to their "fallen" comrad band member and founding leader Syd. But I think of songs as having bigger meanings. This song to me is anyone that one has kind of lost someone to mental illness or perhaps any illness that affects the mind. Its also about the loss of the brotherhood of the band into this rather corporate rock machine. There is a little story that Roger mentions about Syd during this time... "By 1975, Syd Barrett had become a pale shadow of his former self, too. When he made a surprise visit to Abbey Road on June 5, stumbling into the studio while engineer Brian Humphries tweaked the final mix of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” he’d put on so much weight that the others didn’t recognize him for several minutes. He’d shaved his head, too, along with his eyebrows. It pained Waters to see his friend so lost, so detached, so disengaged from the world around him. “Wish You Were Here” deals with that mental inability - the refusal, even - to engage with reality..." Fittingly the song also pays tribute in a way to one of Syds last songs he recorded with Pink Floyd..in the lyrics it says... “It’s awfully considerate of you to think of me here And I’m much obliged to you for making it clear That I’m not here.” If you guys want to hear something really trippy you should go back and listen to the band when Syd was the leader. A completely different sounding band. Try the song "See Emily Play" or "Arnold Layne"...or hell the entire "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" might blow your mind...the guy was an absolute genius and ahead of his time.
@@psbarrow The story of Barrett showing up at the studio is in fact true. I've seen a number of interviews with the band where they talk about that. None of them initially recognized him. It was Gilmour who recognized him first.
@@Smedley61 Your point (and link) are irrelevant. The point is not whether Barrett turned up at the studio, but whether the song was written about him, and it wasn't. If you had watched ALL of that documentary you would know Waters said in it: "There’s one song that’s about Syd, but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent." Gilmour added that "Although “Shine on you Crazy Diamond” is the one that is specifically about Syd, and “Wish You Were Here” has a wider remit, I can’t sing it without thinking about Syd.” In an interview, Waters said about the song: "In a way it’s a schizophrenic song. It’s directed at my other half, if you like, the battling elements within myself. There’s the bit that’s concerned with other people, the bit that one applauds in oneself, then there’s the grasping avaricious, selfish little kid who wants to get his hands on the sweets and have them all. The song slips in and out of both personae, so the bit that always wants to win is feeling upset and plaintively saying to the other side, wish you were here.”
A song, like a poem means whatever the listener, the reader gives to it. No need to confine its meaning, unless you're searching if a specific meaning was intended.
"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year, running over the same old ground..." Kinda sums up my youth, not necessarly a bad thing back then ♥
Stop playing 😁Pink Floyd "one of these days " Pulse LIVE. I'M 58 now and STILL remember that show vividly. I THANK YOU for keeping the REAL music alive ( I mean with real instruments, Drums, Guitar, lights, LET THERE BE ROCK!!!!) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 👍
Its always great to see another generation discover my generation's music. We fucked up a lot of things, there's no question about it. But the music we made from 1965 through about 1985 will have be our legacy for every generation that follows. In case youre looking for something "unique" that probably nobody has recommended to you in the past, look up two 1970s bands: Spooky Tooth and Keef Hartley Band You wont regret it
I'm such a big fan of Pink Floyd. I was lucky enough to have seen them a couple of times in my life. I never saw them with Syd Barrett though and I think that this song is meant for him. It's heartbreaking what happened to him. This song is just haunting and beautiful. I wish your young family a Happy New Years and I can't wait to see what music you choose to listen to!
This was my late husband's favorite band and song. he made me promise id play this at his funeral. the night before he passed of skin cancer our 10-year-old son walked into the room and said maybe dad wants to hear his music before he goes, so my son and I put the cd in the player and played this song as loud as possible as we sang it to him one last time. I woke the next morning in my chair next to his hospice bed, he was holding my hand and he was gone. he died peacefully that night holding my hand. That was 9 years ago this February 3rd. I miss him every single day and wished he was still here with me. I've never remarried and never will, he truly is my best friend and soul mate forever.
For anyone who's tragically lost someone, like I lost my 16 year old brother in a car accident, this song always brings back the sadness and the profound sense of loss.
this song is for my daughter shannon she passed away in 2018 at age 32 way to young she died in her sleep. im hearbroken wish you were her my beautiful shannon my god why! 💔
This whole Pink Floyd album 'Wish you were here' is an epic masterpiece from 1975... Gilmour and (the late) Richard Wright called it their fave Floyd record. It has this epic tribute "Shine on you crazy diamond" to Pink Floyd's lost founder Syd Barrett... then a couple of songs that take shots at the music industry ('Welcome to the machine' and 'Have a cigar') Even the album cover shows 2 men shaking hands, but one is on fire (being 'burned' by the record labels in bad business deals)
This track "Wish You Were Here" is from the album with the same title. There are just 3 short tracks, WYWH plus "Have a Cigar" & "Welcome to the Machine" that are sandwiched in the middle of the 9 part song "S hine on Y ou crazy D iamond" which is all referencing Syd Barrett. Definitely recommend "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".... Yes it's really long but it is really good 😉 If it's too much as a reaction then definitely do "Echoes" Live at Pompeii 1972 part 1
Our son used to play this song on his guitar and sometimes he would play it on the piano . He was self taught this song means so much more too me than it ever did .
i love pink floyds music. i grew up with it and it still takes me away from all of lifes worries when i sit back with the headphones on. a very happy new yeat to you both👍
Roger Waters has said this song was based on a poem he wrote about Syd Barrett's fall from reality. It was said that Syd's friends would lace his coffee with LSD, which eventually lead to his mental breakdown
love the pink floyd vids, more tool too plz. Imo tool is the 'modern' day pink floyd, they express similar themes and topics in similar ways, just tool is a little more modern and intricate, standing on the shoulders of giants obviously.
Great seeing young people enjoying the great music I've enjoyed for decades, I would suggest the song ' one of my tunes' very different but very cool, rock on 🤘👌👍😎
Great reaction. PF was recording their stuff during the LSD era. LSD took Syd away. Listening to PF on LSD and other psychoactive substances is a MUCH DEEPER experience. Us Boomers from the 60's and 70's can attest. ...after all, it's ALL ABOUT CONSCIOUSNESS. Why is Earth here? Why are you on it at this time? Peace to all on the path...
Day 3 of suggesting Rammstein reactions: Rammstein: Paris - Du Hast (Official Video) Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh (Live from Madison Square Garden) Rammstein - Mein Teil [Live Hurricane Festival 2013 HD] (Subtítulos Español) Rammstein - Engel (Live from Madison Square Garden) Rammstein - Deutschland (Official Video) Top 4 are live performances. Their live shows are some of the best out there. Not only do you get a music show, but you get a full performance. The last is a video showing 2,000 years of German history depicting their love/hate relationship they have for their country. As always, keep up the great work. Turning into my favorite reaction channel. 2022 has good things in store for you two. (Not being pushy w/ the Day # part, another react channel suggested doing that for a couple reasons) :)
Bingo! Rico asked me if there were any songs he would love as much as "Comfortably Numb". My answer was no - but "Wish You Were Here" and "Learning To Fly" will come in a close 2nd. 😉 You definitely know your Led Zeppelin. Be on the look out for "Learning To Fly". It'll be up soon! ❤🎵✌
First God created Fender to manufacture the best guitars ever, Then God created David Gilmour (Lead guitarist and Lead singer Pink Floyd) to be the BEST person to play those guitars.
Question what's with the Lennon and Beatles shirts??? You weren't alive when they were touring nor recording. Don't get me wrong I'm glad you discovered thier music but it startled me when you couldn't possible know them and how they influenced our childhood nor society at that time.
You shouldn’t have used this user video as the sound recorded in mono is dreadful! The original intro is playing beautifully with left and right sides to introduce the theme. Listening to Pink Floyd in mono is like watching a Van Gogh painting in black and white. Please try the original album recording 🤗
I'm not usually one for removing things from youtube, but, Jesus, this infuriatingly literal video made by a braindead fan needs to be gone! Someone please upload a decent video for this song please!
Now you guys gotta go for this one: Shine on You Crazy Diamond
YES!!
Second this! I got it tatted 💕
Wesley is absolutely right. Listen to all of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Absolutely amazing. It will change you. Brilliant

You need to listen to the entire album in one go. It's not a collection of songs but meant to be listened at from start to finish.
David Gilmour humming with the guitar at the end is my favorite

This whole album as they all are is beyond awesome. This is one of only a handful of Masterclass Musicians and Songwriters. Once in a lifetime band.
Pink Floyd, “Have A Cigar”
Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Thanks, happy new year.
Good sunday to you two 🙋♂ Next one from Pink Floyd - On the turning away ( live to the Delicate sound of thunder concert . 1988 i think ) 😎👍

Hey you- pink Floyd
Y'all always amaze me. Every time I think I haven't heard something before I've heard it. I can honestly say, yes I've been jamming to Pink Floyd.
Man ...
Love this song but y'all HAVE TO checkout "DOGS". Guitar solos and transitions. On a whole other level.
You would like the Moody Blues too! Try Knights in White Satin
Nights, not Knights.
