    Whoever you spoke with about the aileron roll characteristics either had a very poorly rigged airplane or didn’t have the skillset to do aerobatics. I’ve performed positive G aileron rolls several RV-10s in Phase 1 testing and found the roll characteristics to be predictable, standard, and plenty adequate for a four-seat airplane. The roll rate is substantially faster than a Cirrus, although I haven’t done anything past 60° bank in one. All it’s handling characteristics are very predictable and enjoyable. The RV-10 is still an RV, but it’s more Porsche Macan than 911.

    • @rv10ator
      @rv10ator 11 месяцев назад

      Guilty as charged with respect to inadequate skillset. Although the FAA operating limitations document for my RV-10 included permission to do aerobatics in phase one, and I had done hundreds of 180-degree-per-second aileron rolls in my RV-7, I was totally unprepared for the slow response of those relatively tiny ailerons way out on the end of those long wings. No doubt the second aileron roll would have been better, but I was satisfied that Vans had made the correct call on aerobatics, even on docile 1G maneuvers like aileron rolls. So the total in the logbook after 16 years remains exactly one. Bob Hoover's record of rolling Shrike Commanders is in no jeopardy.

    Assuming the 540 makes it to 2000 hr TBO without blowing a cylinder it'll easily be $50k for a replacement. So the engine reserve should actually be $25/hr. And if the airplane is not flown enough, an annual "reserve" fund would also be needed.

      @rv10ator 11 месяцев назад

      The $1300 figure is actually about twice what I pay for $1M liability + not-in-motion hull coverage on my 2007 RV-10. As the builder I figure if I bend it I'm the person who has the repairman certificate and is going to fix it anyway, and RV-10 parts are really quite inexpensive. A big factor for insurance is training and experience. As an instrument-rated and current pilot with about 3400 hrs. total PIC (2000 of them in RV's) I get quoted insurance rates that are often less than 50% of what new RV-10 pilots get quoted. So those numbers are real but predicated on some special circumstances that wouldn't apply to all owners and/or builders.

      @MikeRetsoc 3 месяца назад

      You are not a pilot I take it. There is a lot more to safety than a parachute. Note, for example, that the RV is utility category and the sr22 is normal category. Most RV-10s have far more developed navigation/autopilot arrangements than almost all the GA fleet and more than the pre G4 Cirruses. Not knocking the Cirrus family, but your comment is uninformed.
