XRWA Spring Rebellion, Flood the City, Perth October 11, 2019

Time is running out to take real action on climate change yet our governments continue to refuse to listen to the science or the people. On October 11, 2019 more than 60 people were arrested in the city of Perth, Western Australia for sitting in an intersection in the CBD. WA's greenhouse gas emissions are growing at exactly the time they should be declining. The Labor Government has just approved a massive new fossil fuel industry in fracking across more than 50,000 sq km of the state. This is despite concerns at the impact this will have not only on climate stability but also land, water and air quality. WA is running short on water and yet the government is willing to waste this resource on fracking and other forms of brand new onshore oil and gas developments. When governments fail to act it is left up to the public to take a stand. The Flood the City event was the culmination of a week of protests in Perth and around the world organised by Extinction Rebellion. #XRWA
