@@Jedi-J2 The Arrogant Worms are a Canadian comedy group. The song they released in '92 is The Last Saskatchewan Pirate. Which this is based on. Good chunk of us grew up with that song.

we do have co op but no where near as common as tesco
I think they have missed the sense of co-op - it's not a reference to a supermarket / grocery store, but rather an agricultural co-operative. The farmers would be transporting their harvest to the co-op's grain elevators, so (in the Canadian original) this would be a logical place for "Tractor Jack" to intercept them.

This song makes me so happy for some reason. My favorite line is "If you wanna get to Tesco, boys, you'll have to go through me". There's just... something... about the image of a pirate with a cutlass and all terrorizing middle aged shoppers outside a Tesco.

@@isaac_aren The names of places I'd never heard of were very much the hardest part. I chose Thornbury because it's near the mouth of the Severen, near another city called Redwick which has a bridge across the river, and contains a Tesco.

While I agree, I do also note that the government is only offering a "measly little sum". Welfare payments have been slashed to hell by neoliberalism, which is just _slavering_ to dismantle anything that might benefit the poor folks who actually make their systems function. And more and more of the farms are just arms of big corporations nowadays...

That's not to say that welfare itself is a good thing, though.

And yes, you definitely need to have a better solution handy before you tear out something like that.

Personally, I think the original "Last Saskatchewan Pirate" version is better because it's about pirates in a completely landlocked setting, while Bristol has it's fair share of maritime history.
Plus it is completely against everyone's image of Canadians.

For months I thought I was crazy because I kept hearing "River Seven" every time my coworker played this song at work, but every time I looked it up it was "River Saskatchewan." I'm glad to finally find the version I was looking for, the "River Severn."

It seems to be a slightly different version of an arrogant worms song yest mostly the names of places are changed. In my pinon the song is better when its about pirates on the Canadian rivers just because of how ridiculous that is.
