    People keep overblowing that Iowa game. Raven actually played a good offensive game. She went 5/11 from the field and 3/6 from 3.
    The best thing thst could have happened for Iowa is that she didn't see Caitlin wave her off. Usually when she feels disrespected her game rises even more. The game against UConn is a perfect example of this.

    That was not only an amazing breakdown, but it was identical to how I see it. The only thing I would add is that while Raven is fast dribbling in a straight line, she does not possess that shake and bake or an effective crossover. Thanks for honoring my request. You are definitely a woman of your word. I think doing a player profile on a somewhat regular basis *would add value to your channel,* especially during the off season. Johnson reminds me of Crystal Dangerfield when Crystal was at UConn. Crystal was a floor general, could pass etc. However i would find myself yelling at my tv during the games "shoot Crystal SHOOT." This went on for her four years as a Husky. She was drafted by the Lynx's became rookie of the year and subsequently treated a few times. Now she is with the Wings, shooting the three with a nice pull up jumper. What a turnaround. Perhaps Johnson can develop into a confident shooter before leaving the Gamecocks. I would like for you to do a video on UConn's Aubrey Griffin ...

    First, I'm a Gamecock so I trust Dawn Staley.
    Second, I definitely agree with you that Raven is a solid player. Given it's still (kind of) her first year really playing in NCAA, it's ok. She maybe just not mentally ready. She saw all the amazing shots Zia and Henny made. But is Raven ready to shine? I didn't think so last year. I believe she has the ability to be amazing. Hopefully she's mentally prepared and I am excited for this new season!

  • @Okayyouwin
    @Okayyouwin Год назад +4

    I think Raven wasn’t confident coming back from her injury. That could really traumatize someone and takes time. I think this season will be different. It’s more mental than anything. She got waived off because that the play wasn’t for her to shoot. I mean you have to listen to your coach, right? So that’s Dawn’s fault honestly and not on Raven. She eventually gave her the green light and she made her 3s in that game. All the other games, she might’ve put up 2-3 3s a game which could be why her FG% is low. I could see if she put up 7-8 and only make 1-2 that’s a different story. But she was barely putting them up bc we all know Dawn ran her offense through the bigs. But in an interview Dawn did mention that it taught her to coach different so you can expect more shooting from her guards this season. With everyone talking about the wave off, Raven mentioned she didn’t see it bc as I said she was focused on running the offense that Dawn told her to. She wasn’t focused on shooting but she did say she couldn’t stop watching the film and Dawn had to tell her to turn it off. Raven will turn a different dial this season. There won’t be anymore disrespect.

    • @QuitaLovesSports
      @QuitaLovesSports  Год назад

      Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to see Raven shoot more this year. Yea a part of her overall hesitation in shooting was because of the offense they run but having her become more of an outside threat overall will help South Carolinas offense. Glad Dawn is thinking about that.
      I for sure am rooting for Raven and hope to make a video about her epic season this year

    • @Mr..G
      @Mr..G Год назад +1

      Raven wasn't confident because she knows she can't shoot. She was confident enough to make the FIBA squad, but her shooting remained the same. How can we blame her shooting woes on the injury but say she is great at defense, passing and slashing in the lane. Those skills all require a lot more starting, stopping, twisting and turning than shooting a wide opened set shot. Additionally, her injury wouldn't explain her 65% freethrow percentage, which is not good for a starting point guard.
      As Quita said, she is just a solid player, nothing more nothing less. It wasn't just the Iowa game according to her stats. She played in 35 other games besides that one, but her average is still only 4.0 points. We're not just talking about her taking a lot of shots; we're talking about her only making 36% of the shots she does take and only 24% from three. We can't blame coach Staley either because Henny and Zia always had the green light because they could shoot. Again, Iowa was only one game. Why did she miss all of her threes in 13 other games and go scoreless all together in 8 more? Too many excuses. †

I'm not talking about what she will become; I'm only talking about what she is now. So how can that ever be proven wrong? The only ones that have been proven wrong are those who said she was elite. The only ones that can be proven wrong in the future are either those who say she will be elite or those who say she won't. I'm not predicting either way, I'm willing to wait and see. Quota, Quita, Quita… way off here. It seems like you’ve never really seen her play. The Iowa game was one thing, but even in that game she proved she was more than “solid”. I think you got so caught up in the whole “embarrassment” of the Caitlyn Clark thing that you forgot who she plays for. No one - I repeat - NO ONE is just going to jack up a 3 until Dawn says it’s ok to. And even so, she shot 50% from 3 after Dawn gave her the green light. That hesitance had nothing to do with her ability. Where in the world do you come up with she can’t shoot?? If you’re looking at percentages for last season, just stop. You said yourself; it was her freshman season. Percentages are gonna be low ‘(except if your name is Paige Bueckers). Check out Caitlyn Clark’s freshman stats. Average to below average. Johnson knows her coach enough to know you do exactly what she tells you to, if you want to stay on the floor. Period. Nothing to see there.
    If you had actually watched her consistently, you would know that SC’s offense always took 2 steps forward whenever she stepped into the lineup. She is a catalyst - a spark plug, who can dish it out or score. The only fear she has is if she misses will she get benched. She won’t be thinking that next season.
    In the UConn game, there were 3 players who made the major contributions to secure that win. They were Kamila, Aliyah, and Raven. You must have missed that game. Dawn had to bench Fletcher in favor of Johnson because the energy was so much better with Raven on the floor.
    I love your content - don’t get me wrong. This feels like you did this from memory instead of really taking a deep dive. Remember who had the deepest team in college basketball last season. Raven moved ahead of a lot of talented players (including Chloe Kitts, who has superstar potential). Johnson has intangibles that make her devastating to opponents. I wanted her to sit down so bad when SC played my Huskies. She is a legit problem.
    You missed on this one.

      I appreciate your feedback, this is why I love making videos because it gives me the opportunity to hear what folks have to say and discuss.
      I only put significant focus on the Iowa game because I thought it was one that most folks remember. But my thoughts are based on various games from last season as well as her play on the AmeriCup team.
      I guess we have a different definition of solid, I don’t think calling a player solid is a bad thing at all, to me it’s a compliment and shows how much promise she has as a sophomore. She is a really good passer/facilitator and can play defense, she just hasn’t proven that she can shoot consistently from outside the paint. If she improves on that she will be unstoppable because she is good on everything else.

      Alan, Alan, Alan!You need to get your emotions under control, my man. Is it really that serious? Quita's critique was spot on. Calling Raven solid was the highest compliment she could possibly hope for. When you look at her numbers, it may have even been a bit too generous. She is ranked *2,170* in scoring with 4.2 points per outing, while shooting a dismal 36% from the field and 24% from three. As a starting point guard, she only shoots 65% from the charity stripe which is also embarrassing. In *thirteen (13)* games, she missed all of her threes, and in *eight (8)* games, she didn't score at all. She is number *203* in assists at 3.2. Her average of 1.1 steals, is wiped out by her 1.4 turnovers. That puts her in the red, and she is deserving of an overdraft fee. She played in 36 games and only reached double digits three times. Anyone who thinks she is deserving to be called anything higher than solid are suffering from the worse deception there is, *self deception.* Smh 0:47 0:47

    Hi Quita, you'll get no argument from me or Caitlyn Clark for that matter. Raven Johnson's shot is suspect especially from 3. She's fast enough, but not very crafty with the handles. She's solid enough to play Div 1 for an elite program, (and thats noteworthy) but obviously needs improvement in areas. To my mind, its too soon to talk much about her WNBA prospects, but not too soon for her to start working on shot in offseason. Comparatively, Veronica Burton (Dallas Wings) noted defender, not a great shooter at all. Soph season in the W... Taylor Robinson (Okla sooners) considered great shooter; CaitlynClark level, but didnt earn her way into the W. so who knows.

She was intentional about not guarding her all night, so why wouldn't she be about the wave off. It was just an extension of her defense. I think Cheryl Miller, another great has her pegged.
      *In an interview with USA TODAY Sports, hall of famer Cheryl Miller said Iowa’s Caitlin Clark should have acknowledged LSU’s Angel Reese in the final minutes of the game when Reese tapped her ring finger and made the John Cena “You Can’t See Me’’ gesture. *

      I guess the only thing you heard was that she got waved off, which is typical of our fans. I guess you missed the part where she said Raven came back and hit most of her shots after that and had a good game. You must have also missed the part where she said Raven is a great passer and a good defensive player. Additionally, she pointed out that it was not just Raven who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn that night, but no one could from outside. What part of what you heard is not true. To say that she is solid with a 4 point average and 3 assist, while turning the ball over more times than she steals it is being generous. She is not an elite player. The injury excuse can only be used so much. On the day of their second game this season, the injury will be two years old.

    What community? When in my opinion there's bias on this channel! There's more LSU love than anything on this channel you can just look at the videos in her catalog being that you suppose to know womens basketball let's be real there's maybe 4 or 5 teams who really have a chance to win it all and because LSU won the natty and have a so called super team they the only ones who get showed the most love wen you have uconn SC and maybe 1 or 2 teams that can beat them you know if angel Reese didn't implement a jump shot in her game they is not beating big teams like SC which I think gets no respect because boston and the rest left, it's never brought up that raven class was like a # 1 or 2 recruting class they returned everybody except 1 then they have this year's #2 recruiting class like that's not even being mentioned like gamecocks is still the queens of the sec until somebody stops that streak you are the 1 we need to be unbiased and tell the facts the media won't tell. We need truth not narratives

      Thanks so much for your feedback! I hear you on the LSU stuff, a lot of that content was specific to all of the moves that were made this offseason. I tried to keep up with most things that were happening with some of the main contenders but unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up with all the news enough to truly be inclusive of all NCAA teams. This RUclips stuff is a side hobby and I don't have a ton of time to make as many videos as I would like, so some videos while I want to do them I just might not have the time to do enough research to feel comfortable talking about it.
      I haven't made a video specifically about Angel Reese's play on the court, but yes I completely agree with you that she needs to develop a jump shot because right now she doesn't have it. I also think South Carolina is for sure a contender, I actually have a non-conference schedule video that I just recorded where I talk a bit about that.
      I want this channel to be a place where people learn something about players and teams that they didn't know, I also want this channel to be free from regurgitating things that commentators are already talking about. Do I always succeed at these things...no, but I can tell you this I do try my absolute best and hope that folks like you let me know your thoughts in the comments so I can improve. Yes, I have biases, we all do but I don't actually have a dog in the fight when it comes to the NCAA, I just want to watch good games, see players improve and cheer everyone on because at the end of the day I am interesting in the collective success of all women's basketball players.

    Raven was put in an awful position. Fletcher should've been benched for starting the game with an awful airball. Staley should've let Raven play her style, which is a driving slashing point guard. She absolutely can shoot 3s!!! Lol but her bread and butter is the driving slashing style. She needs to shoot her mid range jumpers then she can settle into her 3 pt shooting. She made 3s... but her confidence was shot in that game. Raven tried but, but she should've been given the green light from the jump.

      Your take is quite hilarious to say the least. Kierra Fletcher only played 4 minutes, but since she missed her only shot, you think she should have been benched sooner although Raven, Beal and Saxton missed their first two attempts. Lol You seem to think Fletcher's missed shot 47 seconds into the game is the reason they lost. Like I said, hilarious. Coach Staley didn't put Raven in an awful position either. She did not prohibit her from slashing or driving the lane, and she never does with any of her players. Who told you that? Zia penetrated often and was quite successful. Raven couldn't drive because Clark was already in the lane. She dared her to hit a three or midrange. If that's part of Raven's game, it sure hasn't benefited the team much considering her 4 point average. You say she can shoot the three; I will agree. However, the problem isn't her shooting the three, it's her not making them. If her confidence was shaken, it was her own fault. She can't shoot!

      Dawn doesn’t want her to feel comfortable until she has time to develop. Raven has the best coaching staff helping her understand her game and develop her weaknesses. If Raven was at LSU, she would have no chance to develop because they don’t do that there. At USC, they know what they have and will make it their mission to develop her for the W. That is what they do.
