Installing Solar Power in The Dominican Republic:
The million dollar question, should I install solar power in my home or not, or at least it’s a U$20,000 question for a comprehensive installation. In this video we visit homeowners Robert and Kathleen who recently took the plunge….
With the ever increasing cost of power and the quality and durability of solar equipment seemly advancing with each passing day, for anyone with the funds, it’s certainly worth doing some research and checking out the options available.
The solar system in the video comprises of the following:
10 solar panels - 20 year warrantee
2 Batteries - 8 year warrantee
2 invertors - 3 year warrantee
Ground mounting system - 10 year warrantee
With connectors, combiners, cables, ground mounting and shipping costs plus installation the grand total comes to just under U$20,000. The quality of the installation appears to be first class as does the equipment.
Robert says that the system produces around 800kw monthly and allows them to power the house fully and run a/c units and the swimming pool pump way more than they would have ordinarily without receiving a power bill. At this rate of consumption Robert believes that payback would be between 5-7 years without considering any potential increases in the cost of electricity.
Of course there is the added bonus of a constant power supply should there be an outage in the area, and the surge protection system assures a steady flow of power to the house and protection of all appliances within. Any questions you might have, just leave them in the comments section beneath and we’ll do our best to answer them for you.
The system in the video was installed by INNOVE

Very informative and helpful planing to have solar in the near future
I've always dreamed going back and live in the DR, It'll be about 5 years before I can move into my new off-grid home in the mountains near Santiago (about 21 minutes from the airport), but planning is half the fun. This is the first DR video I've seen about a modern solar system, and it's SO helpful. I was worried about the power situation, but it seems like I won't even need a massive solar array. I'll obviously have some extra panels and likely a gas generator for emergencies, but I'm so relieved I can be mostly solar-powered. Just makes the wait that much harder!
Sounds like a good plan, happy to hear that you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 🙏🙂
Can't tell you how much I love this!!!! I have been wanting to talk to someone about solar. Wow......
Glad you found it useful Scott...🙂
Very informative video. Thank you guys. The view is really spectacular...
Yes the view is one of the best in the area, thank you for watching.
Nice setup and very neat installation.
11:07 Add this to Tay's video of things that you still see in the DR after 21 years: Customs is still the biggest hurdle to technological progress in the DR.
You are right, customs...well they have their ways...
Great video. Definitely want solar when I move to the DR
Now we know where to go to get a top notch system installed! Thanks for watching!
I absolutely found the information in this video very informative. I look forward to this as a consideration in the future. I would be curious to know how many square foot this home is?
It's a 3 bedroom villa 211 m2 under roof....happy to hear that you found the content informative, thanks as always for watching..🙏😎
Great video !! Topic that many people will be interested in. What size/capacity are the batteries please ?
According to what the homeowner explains in the video, the system is capable of producing 800kw per month. Their usage is approx 600kw per month. The over could be sold back to the grid if they had a direct bi-directional metered system. Which may be coming soon, just another step in solar technology.
How do you protect it from Hurricanes?
Thank you for your question, I suppose hurricane insurance would be the best option, given if you covered the panels...well they wouldn't get any sun on them would they? This being said, the north coast is notorious for not having hurricanes...google can tell you about storms on the north coast of The Dominican Republic. Thanks for watching.
Great video. I just have an important question, are the panels hurricane proof or have hurricane insurance on them?
I doubt the panels come "hurricane proof" - the insurance would be down to the home owner and their policy.
Can you tell us who installed it?

I am guessing that install wasn’t a Dominican contract…
How much for install in total?
19k total.
@@Thomas-yg7qg The homeowner states towards the end of the video his total cost, approx US$19,000
