Need to do an episode on whether or not quantum entanglement communicators in Mass Effect could ever exist and allow for near instant communication over vast distances in space.
Quantum Entanglers are some of the most scientifically viable parts of Mass Effect, not relying any bit on the elusive mass effect fields and eezo super-tech, but rather based on real-life science, and what we know of quantum entanglement today. It's totally possible, and as the games claim it would be extremely expensive and restrictive, given it would be as they say point to point, that is if you want to communicate with multiple people you need multiple communicators, you can't ever call anyone but whoever has the other part of the same communicator (Mass Effect 3 communicating with both Hackett and Anderson is done via just that, two communicators, likewise if they were to communicate with each other like they do in some cases they would both need at least two QECs as well). It's entirely possible that's just what we'll be using to just communicate with any eventual outposts on Mars in the relatively near future even, at least for vital communication where waiting the almost 14 minutes it takes for one message to pass from Earth to Mars and back again wouldn't do, though odds are that would be text messages to begin with.
What if voxels touch one another? Can we configure them to produce sounds when moving fast through the air, when they touch other voxels, and when they touch a fencing suit? Will the sport of fencing look like Star Wars in the future?
Nerdist I'm way late on this but thanks for making this video. I'm majoring in physics right now and I'm going on my third year this coming semester and I swear Mass Effect was a huge reason I decided to do physics because it let me dream of the future technology, exploration and possibilities so to hear from someone who's obviously smarter than I am that the game is grounded in *some* science really helps me. thanks a lot for your vids, don't ever stop
I once said "Lazer Sword" instead of lightsaber in a Star Wars comment section and everybody laughed and corrected me, they didn't know I was talking about an earlier version... that had nothing to do with me having a very limited knowledge of the english language.
Dammit Kyle you gone done it again. You're videos always make me laugh, your comedy is impeccable. I would've loved a Close Encounters of the Third Kind easter egg at 4:35. You're awesome man.
I just stumbled into this channel and I've been watching it for a couple of hours; I'm surprised at how often 'plasma' comes up as a real life analog for science fiction stuff.
There is the 3D printers where the base construct is cured by lasers. Omni Gel, which is their analog to the real life print material could be laced with nanotech to move around, construct and destruct in real time in 3D space. If such a 3D printer was also supported in air by their mass effect fields, which defy gravity, and the array of tiny lasers curing as things are built, even the buttons an circuit boards could be physically 'printed' for specific uses, if you have the required blueprint, then recycled later if you need something else. the lasers could also serve a dual purpose; projecting interfaces onto the solid but transparent constructs, hence the omnitools glowing.
This is seriously cool and a plasma blade is cooler than a more conventional one. I imagine it'd be possible to create a plasma shield if they were arrayed correctly?
Well, plasma is basically lighter than gas, so it would be quite easy to push say, a ceramic blade through it (since it's just so heat resistant) and any material if it isn't hot enough, however with enough heat you may feasibly melt it before it passes through, however it would require immense amounts of power and there is still the issue of momentum, you would need it so hot that it melts whatever tries to pass through into a gas, otherwise it could carry through thanks to momentum and injure whoever or whatever is on the other side.
Amazingly, those plasma voxels, with those tiny points of light, look a lot like the new omni-tools in ME: Andromeda, which also has lots of tiny points of light distributed throughout the tool and a less cohesive-looking display than in previous installments. soooo, thumbs up to this theory.
@nerdist would a soldier from attack on titan actually be able to use the odm device without killing themselves in the process?, it would be awesome if you made a video about that!
So in summary: the way omni-blades are produced is woefully inefficient, because you could generate such a blade just by using the holographic projectors.
the holographic projectors aren't solid, he got it right at the beginning, in lore they use gloves or finger implants to feel the buttons not to mention the omni blade is a kind of improvised weapon, using the omni tool fabricator to create a blade, so in the same way you can create a blade, you can also create other small 3D objects btw, the blade itself is invisible, what we see is just a hologram for safety, the same can be said for the tech armor
So what you're telling me is that "soon" I'll be able to have an omni-tool that has a blade that functions like a lightsaber, a blade that I can use to slice open a package delivered to me by my autonomous unmanned drone, and inside the package will be my VR chip that will connect my brain to a fully realized virtual reality where I can have amazing Thor like hair. All because Science. Is that what you're telling me?
Have you talked to Dr. Aridani about how we even got up to date scans on the Andromeda galaxy? The lore answer is that the Geth modiefied a Mass Effect relay into a telescope to see the present version of the Andromeda galaxy. Because mass effect relays, I guess.
Seems like to me, a Omni-tool like smart sleeve with a built in plasma blade cutter seems like the tool of the construction worker of the future, if they weren't robots.
Very cool ! But you missed something, if you can arrange your laser array as you wish, you could totally make a ligth saber starwars style like that ! make the focals points arrange in a tubular form about 1m long and voila !
Hey Kyle here's a (hopefully) quick Mass Effect question. Given the massive pressure differentials and concussive shockwave involved, how loud do you think the various biotic powers will be?
Holograms in the Mass effect universe actually do work with haptic interface technology. The hologram itself can't be interacted with. The actual controls com from either gloves or implants in your fingers that track your fingers movements and give a touching sensation when your fingers are in the right position. The actual hologram just exists to tell the user which finger position does what. Also an omni blade is not plasma. Its a diamond hard blade flashforged by the omnitool and is made from omni-gel. Its also solid. Its created with the same technology that allows an omnitool to make on-site modifications and repairs to gear. Omni-gel is made from various reused alloys, ceramics and plastics, that are all melted together into a paste that is then put into the omnitool's mini fabricator and forged into new stuff
HEY KYLE! can you examine the basis behind persona's protagonist' abilities to change personas which are the representation of their inner self (id/ego/superego/ec...) at will. think someone can change their personality on a whim, at will?
How much DNA did the Reapers harvest? New mini-episode over on my Insta (instagram.com/sci_Phile/). Thanks for watching! -- KH
Nerdist Can you make a video about Gambit from the X-Men
Nerdist dude, did you make a surprise boner joke

my thought on your example of real omnibalde i get the thought of g fighter gundams shining finger.
*Sheds a single tear at Mordin quote*
I cri everi tyme
Someone else may have gotten it wrong... ;-;
Jacob Buck I am the very model of a scientist salarian
I'm not commander Shepard but this is my favorite channel on the citadel!
Meh, I've seen better.
Not citadel, extranet ;)
6:58 Oh my gosh! I was waiting for that; way to put it at the end lol! I thought the video would finish without it.
Ruben Avalos Hell yes, I was chomping at the bit waiting for it.
I had just been clicking away from the episode when he surprised me!
Don't worry baby birds, I'll feed you. -- KH
haha me too! I almost yellled YOU TEASE! when he didn't do it, then it did at the end!
surprise lightsaber
This guy is the only reason I'm subbed to this channel.
FanBoy same but I occasionally watch the Dan cave.
I'm fine with that. -- KH
so you could say we are subbed to nerdist, because kyle hill.
likewise.
Pretty much same for me.
6:19 "Faster than light space travel and slower than dirt elevators." - Honest Game Trailers
Unless you're on the top of them accordidng to ME3
I'd love to have an omni-tool, even without the blade its an amazing thing.
"Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
DAMN IT, I WAS ALMOST DONE BEING UPSET ABOUT THAT
;^;
Could you tell me what had happened? I'm curious and it's pretty hilarious for Kyle to be throwing shade
it's about the death of a character in Mass Effect 3
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Bronz Trooper I JUST FUCKING GOT IT! IT WAS FUCKING MORDIN!!!!!!
hmmm... at 4:40 in to the vid.. when Kyle is taping the ''omni tool'' was it the starwars dark side theme? :O
Hmmm -- KH
hey! do a vid explaining how evolution stones in pokemon work!
OMG so I'm not the only one that caught that! I was waiting for the last 3 notes XD
Adam Krafth NO WAY!!!!!!😧
saame!
Real life Omni-tools?
Coming soon from Apple... the iTool!
Isn't that a brand in GTA?
Idock.
A tablet
That you can "Dock" with
You know Docking the Dock.
No no, iTool are the people _working_ at Apple.
Well, the Omni Blade, basically is a weaponised iPhone
+TheSwagtacular
Not the people working for Apple, but the people that buy are the products.
"Overthinking a video game"
Lance McCarthy because science
But hey that's just a theory, a science theory! Thanks for watching.
I did work with MatPat last weekend... -- KH
werewolf914 wouldn't it be "annnnnnnnnnd cut!"?
sorry i love puns
Nerdist please do ' Can the juggernaut break through a adamantium/vibranium wall?
What if voxels touch one another? Can we configure them to produce sounds when moving fast through the air, when they touch other voxels, and when they touch a fencing suit? Will the sport of fencing look like Star Wars in the future?
I was smiling during the video and then that 6:15 brought tears to me eyes...
that mordin end bit made me shed a tear :C
;^;
I've waited for this episode for ages. Seriously the Omni-tool is just so awesome in its applications!!
+1 like because its Kyle
+1 like for the last second surprise light saber
+1 for your comment. -- KH

btw is not a hair
Gabo Derflinger i litteraly blew at my phone to blow that "hair" off my screen
Gabo Derflinger lol I was trying to get it off my screen 😂
You're devious sir. I did the same thing. But I laughed so......well played. :)
Gabo Derflinger Sable láser?
How is the black-saber black if it's plasma?
I'm so glad I watched this to the very end. I miss those surprises.
you are like the only reason i watch this channel
Fine with it -- KH
I only watch Because Science and the Instagram mini episodes lol
6:16 "Someone else might've gotten it wrong."
'Mordin Solus'
I cheered at the end. This might be my favorite Because Science in a while.
Every sci-fi universe have it's unique weapons. While Star Wars have lightsabers, for Mass Effect there is Shepard.
Dammit Kyle you gone done it again. You're videos always make me laugh, your comedy is impeccable. I would've loved a Close Encounters of the Third Kind easter egg at 4:35. You're awesome man.
2:36 *eagerly waiting for the Surprise Lightsaber*
5:38 O.O It is coming!!
5:51 D:
6:58 YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS
Love how much Kyle loves Mass Effect. More ME vids!
I just stumbled into this channel and I've been watching it for a couple of hours; I'm surprised at how often 'plasma' comes up as a real life analog for science fiction stuff.
Explain how a meeseeks box from Rick and Morty could be possible or why it isn't possible.
I love that you talked about fairy lights aka the laser plasma. I did a project years ago on it. it's really cool stuff
Surprise lightsaber!!!!!! hahahaha
Aww thankyou, I know its late but you too lol
Ailie A You ruined the surprise
5:16 Dude. You just invented Psi-blades.
That last surprise really scared me there.
Thank you, Kyle. :D
Your Mass Effect videos make me love your video even more then before. The Mass Effect games are my absolute favorite.
still waiting for lightsaber vs adamantium .
Doubt it.
Levitibert Rovitikus he said that he is going to do a video on that almost a week ago on his Instagram!
According to Stryker, once adamantium cools it can't be melted again.
nightcaste but it was cut in the Wolverine! remember??
Shivanshu Mahim That was with a heated adamantium blade.
Loved the hidden Imperial March in the Keyboard tones! Way to hide that in there!
Premature lightsaber auto activation, it happens to the best of us.
Just be glad you didn't hit somebody in the face with that
The Mordin bit at the end... one manly tear
"Hot enough to melt through materials like armor."
- Kyle Hill 2017
Yeah you know, armor material -- KH
i guess he Surprise Lightsabered himself
That sounds dirty!
ayyeeeee! I suggested this on the last mass effect video thanks Kyle, you're the main reason I'm subbed!
That slow elevator from ME1... biggest improvement in video game history ever is the elevator between ME1 and ME2.
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite channel on RUclips.
Surprise light-saber is the best light-saber, and I nearly jumped at the end, thanks man...
I liked your impression of those damn slow elevators in ME1 at the end. Great video.
Points for the Mordin reference. :)
oh man, that elevator gag at the end haha. thanks for that. RIP of Normandy.

I will never see the surprise lightsabre the same way again...

Raptor Jesus And you could throw a piece of metal trough it and shower whoever is on the other side with molten metal
remember when you could just slap omni-gel on everything?
6:58 - Surprise Lightsaber denied all through the entire main video. This one moment made it all the more gratifying.
Oh the feels are strong with this one, I was not expecting that.
I was almost disappointed till I got what i needed at the end. Thank you Kyle for coming through.
That "slow elevators"-joke at the end killed it :D
Amazingly, those plasma voxels, with those tiny points of light, look a lot like the new omni-tools in ME: Andromeda, which also has lots of tiny points of light distributed throughout the tool and a less cohesive-looking display than in previous installments. soooo, thumbs up to this theory.
y u gotta make me cry like that at the end?
Thanks for doing the omni-tool.
#FemShep
@nerdist would a soldier from attack on titan actually be able to use the odm device without killing themselves in the process?, it would be awesome if you made a video about that!
This is so cool cause i just got the mass effect trilogy a little bit ago for my b-day and this is like belated icing.
Waited till the end wasn't disappointed
that Mordin reference

You should' do a collab with some other people, like VSauce and GameTheory to make something like this
Talking with MatPat right now actually... -- KH
Austin Hourigan, Matthew Patrick and Kyle Hill in the same room. Holy shit, it's the Nerdvengers, and it's amazing.
WIll you use Austin? Matpat is boring
Nerdist, yes!!! I knew it!
Someone else might have gotten it wrong. Big thumbs up for the references
Some say he is still in that elevator.
Bro great control on the deep squat at the end
Watched till the end, so WORTH IT!
the darth vader/empire notes at 4:36
noice.
I've been suggesting this for so long! So happy
You could do a video on the kett and how DNA splicing works.
So what you're telling me is that "soon" I'll be able to have an omni-tool that has a blade that functions like a lightsaber, a blade that I can use to slice open a package delivered to me by my autonomous unmanned drone, and inside the package will be my VR chip that will connect my brain to a fully realized virtual reality where I can have amazing Thor like hair. lol the buttons pushing makes the imperial march when sped up XD.
Have you talked to Dr. Aridani about how we even got up to date scans on the Andromeda galaxy? The lore answer is that the Geth modiefied a Mass Effect relay into a telescope to see the present version of the Andromeda galaxy. Because mass effect relays, I guess.
I'm only subbed for this show.
Liked that you played the Star Wars Imperial March at 4:38
So Kyle why don't you work at a lab to do this kind of stuff. Instead of working at Nerdist?
I'm not smart enough -- KH
Evertime i watch this just gets better and better
I "suprise lightsabered" myself trying to hit the rotate button.
I was, in fact, surprised.
Very good video and it's great you used Mass Effect references!
Seems like to me, a Omni-tool like smart sleeve with a built in plasma blade cutter seems like the tool of the construction worker of the future, if they weren't robots.
Have there been a Because Science on Xenomorphs? Because if not that would be awesome
Very cool ! But you missed something, if you can arrange your laser array as you wish, you could totally make a ligth saber starwars style like that ! make the focals points arrange in a tubular form about 1m long and voila !
hey Kyle, how strong do you have to be in order for your punches to change the weather? Like how All Might does in My Hero Academia
Hey Kyle here's a (hopefully) quick Mass Effect question. Given the massive pressure differentials and concussive shockwave involved, how loud do you think the various biotic powers will be?
5:15 - Is this how Green Lantern creates his blade in the film?
Don't worry, I hate it too.
Love the videos, Kyle
An omni-tool made of tiny dots of plasma would look like an arm covered in glitter.
It's not a real lightsaber-related Because Science video until Kyle says "plasma."
"Someone else might have gotten it wrong" Damn you Kyle, I came here to learn, not to feel!
;^;
"Surprise Lightsaber" i thought you had enough with this, but.. :D
that imperial march intro on the omnitool was legit
'Someone else might've gotten it wrong.' Ahhhh! The feels! 😭
Someone else understood Mordin's reference at the end? I miss Mordin
that moment when you go thru the entire post episode section of the video simply for the "Suprise lightsaber!"
thanks for the surprise
Some say the side effect of wearing an omni tool means Shepard haunts you for life for wearing it
Holograms in the Mass effect universe actually do work with haptic interface technology. The hologram itself can't be interacted with. Every time he does the surprise lightsaber now, he gives a face like: "WHY? Why are you nerds making me do this?"
Always wanted an answer for a common trope, who better to ask: How sharp would an edge have to be to cut through space/Time and create a portal?
HEY KYLE! can you examine the basis behind persona's protagonist' abilities to change personas which are the representation of their inner self (id/ego/superego/ec...) at will. think someone can change their personality on a whim, at will?
