    It's actually pretty close to how they explain it in game. According to the codex, Element Zero, upon being electrically charged, can increase or decrease the mass of things around it. Biotic powers would come from small nodes or Eezo on a subject's brain, activated by the electric impulses of the cortex.

    • @OrangeRomka
      @OrangeRomka 7 лет назад +3

      i think these powers are not trully biotic, im pretty sure they are exclusive for asari who have connections with ardat yakshi, only who can manipulate your nerve systems. It was shown than Morinth could pretty much manipulate people, and as far as we know it all asari can do that with their looks being different for different species, so dominating someone completely is not hard for a biotic who is as skilled as morinth plus the whole ardat yakshi thing that adds to the power. As for reave, my opinion is that its basically just distanced simulation of sex with ardat yakshi, Samara is the ardath yakshi mother of three so i think it is possible for her to tap into that power, connecting to the nerve system of people and siphoning their strength. Shepard can use them just for gameplay purposes though. But its just speculation on my part.

    • @Samuraiedge2
      @Samuraiedge2 7 лет назад +8

      Reave isn't exclusive to Asari though. Kaiden and Miranda are capable of using it and even Drell with Biotics.

    • @shingshongshamalama
      @shingshongshamalama 7 лет назад

      Biotics also doesn't explain why Asari are psychic.
      Everything else is psychokinesis, which is easily handwaved away with "your brain chemoelectrical impulses generate mass effect fields." But Asari can fucking read minds. The game just sorta throws it out there and pretends you won't notice that it's completely unexplained.

      But they aren't supposed to be able to; they even joke about it in the Citadel DLC.

      Liara: "That's a bit strange...."

    Also, to anyone who thinks this could explain the Force in Star Wars, it could explain some things but not everything. General telekinesis and choking would be easy to explain. Lightning however, would be harder to explain with dark matter. Also, not to mention the Force acts as a 6th sense, alerting to danger among other things. I fail to see how dark matter can do that. I also fail to see what about dark matter could allow communication with animals (yes, that's a thing, light side power only), or the classic one, Force Ghost. And that's not even talking about the biggest part, the 2 sides of it. What about dark matter would turn someone evil and cause some bodily decay and eyes changing color by using only "dark" powers, or animal communication by only using "light" powers.

      I read a thing somewhere that controlling the electromagnetic forces could lead cover things like invisibility and lightning throwing, I can't really remember how it was explained but maybe it ties into what you are saying...
      Another argument which is kinda lazy is to say that the force is a mystical... energy? i.e. not something that can be explained by science

    • @hyperdeath84
      @hyperdeath84 7 лет назад +1

      SheosMan117 If the force was some kind of sentient being that covers the breadth of the universe, then that might account at least for the differences in light and dark powers since a sentient being could bestow powers as it sees fit. The rest of it, I'm not sure. For the fiction of the Star Wars world it's a power best left mysterious in my opinion.

    • @SheosMan117
      @SheosMan117 7 лет назад +1

      True, true. Let us not forget the M word. L dropped the M word on us, and we hated it. So trying to scienceify the Force any more than that would be bad, and impossible, all things considered.

    • @Zurenza
      @Zurenza 7 лет назад +1

      Electromagnetism is currently one of our least understood fundamental forces of the universe, even though we can create Electromagnetic feilds(Electromagnetism and magnetism are the same force by the way.).
      We know that somehow it repels both Nuclear Forces, but we also know it can create electricity and even transport it, the things we don't understand is how it can mimic gravity if there's a strong enough electromagnetic force. We also don't know why electromagnetic forces can copy, and memorize eachother, that means that if a human being were to walk through a VERY strong electromagnetic feild, it would create a pseudo "Hologram" of that person by using their magnetic feild, we don't know how it works, but it does happen.
      Electromagnetism is also the general accepted explanation, or the most sought after one, of the Paranormal due to how little we know about it but also due to how much we've seen it do.
      Edit: The four fundamental forces of nature are Strong Nuclear Force, Weak Nuclear Force, Gravity and Electromagnetism.

    the main evidence for dark matter is the bullet cluster, a bunch of galaxies warping space which we use to detect gravitational lensing to see where the mass of colliding galaxies is. galaxy spin happens to be one of the first phenomena we noticed and attributed to dark matter, but galaxy spin might just be an effect of spatial distortion, and not related to dark matter at all.

    You assume that dark energy is the universal constant, but an equally viable candidate is quintessence. Unlike the Universal Constant quintessence can be positive or negative, which would make it much more compatible with the with the powers in question And because it is "dark energy" it would not disagree with the canon of the game.

      Astronomer = gas, "Astrophysicist"= spooky magical substance that magically "expands" the univrse after a magical "big bang" that created everything without being religou like the Catholic Priest that proposed the "super atom" hypothesis originally (wink,wink)
      As for "dark energy"...that's most commonly heat in the universe...gives off infrared light which human eye can't seer, but "astrophysicists" gotta make it all mysterious/mystical

  • @gamingcultist
    @gamingcultist 7 лет назад +3

    What's interesting is that your comment on how this would realistically cause a lot of general mayhem stumbles close to what the original story was for the motivation of the Reapers. Rampant use of biotics (and, I assume, the use of the eezo mass effect in general) lead to a premature breakdown/death of the universe, and the Reapers are trying to stop it. It's the original plot that's alluded to by Tali when you find her on Haestrom, the planet with a prematurely dying sun. None of this made it into the final game due to that massive story leak that dumped the whole plot way early in production. The producers panicked, wanted an unspoiled surprise ending, and we got what we got.

    • @paracetamolgirl7820
      @paracetamolgirl7820 6 лет назад

      Nah, the initial leaks gave us the same general story that we got in ME3 -- the "dark energy" plot had been long since scrapped before that.
      I can only assume it was for the same reason every hates what we did get -- it doesn't really make sense. If the use of eezo accelerated the heat death of the universe (and the Reapers are only active in the Milky Way, though they could have changed that), then it opens the massive plothole of the question why they would be creating/manipulating civilisations and species into using element zero technology. There's no real way around it that wouldn't be silly, but imo that would at least have been more bearable than the whole Catalyst/Leviathan shenanigans from left field.
      I personally was hoping/expecting that the Reapers were some organism/construct like Multivac from The Last Question, but hey. What can you do.

    And figure out how to apply it to only specific objects? Yeah, at this point, a better explanation would need to be to add, reduce, or remove mass, which requires knowing what makes up mass. Looking at Wikipedia on Mass Generation and you quickly find we have none given we don't understand how mass can be generated to include gravity in a way that makes micro-physics work out, you could develop your own pseudo-theory just for the fiction, something that seems real enough with some investigation and needs a deep magnifying glass to really disprove would probably work. Other then that, its just a huge question with no answer.

    And by the way,I am trying to insintivise the fact that the old Dante is alot better and more badass then the new one,and a video of you showcaseing the original would be great.

    "You're living in an opportune time to know. So do it." Yeah but if the heat death thing is inevitable, billions of years from now, what's the point? Maybe there was a species offshoot of dinosaurs millions of years ago which managed to evolve to self-awareness and may have even figured out some basic sciences, but they were not able to make anything that survived them to enable us to know they ever achieved sentience. So what'd be the point?

    Could be that they manipulate Dark Energy to create Dark Matter (DE=DM*c^2??). And, as I see it, since 'travel time' is in the equation for mass and energy (depending on which one you want to solve for)...maybe Charge is really just manipulating Energy and Mass to travel at near the speed of light. I mean, when you use the ability you don't just 'poof', you kind of _phase_ back then accelerate forward *THEN* 'poof' and appear to deliver a Falcon Punch to the enemy.
    Also, for the other ME abilities that I've seen asked about...
    Backlash: You're simply changing the direction of incoming mass, which we see happen all the time with stellar bodies, you'd just need to quickly create these dark matter clumps in an arc. Or. You could manipulate 'c' by shunting an enormous about of Dark Energy into 'somewhere'. Which, if the above is accurate, would make 'c' (aka travel time) '0' then immediately reapply that shunted Dark Energy to accelerate the object back at the target. - I use Energy because you'd have to increase the mass of an object to biblical proportions...like..a 9mm being given the mass of a black hole- proportion. :P
    Reave: it says it restores Health...well, what is health if not Matter (Blood, tissue, nutrients) and some Energy (nerve signals; no signals no heartbeat, no life). So, you could maybe use Dark Matter. Since we don't know much about it...who knows how it'd affect us. Now, for the temp 'health boost', well...think about getting an Blood Transfusion (to you). You tend to feel pretty alert and that alert feeling slowly fades. As for the extra damage to Organics...well...we did get Dark Matter _somewhere_ (mauahahah!) the Double Damage to Armor (Mass) and Barriers (Energy)...we're manipulating E=Mc^2 and M=E/c^2, I'm pretty sure we got enough 'umph' to deal extra damage to Matter and Energy.

    So dark matter is really the Force?! As Obi-wan says, "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together." It's not created by living things, but it surrounds us and penetrates us, and it kind of binds the galaxy together? Whatever, in my head the force is now Star Wars' dark matter. Now how the Hoth do Force lightning, Force judgement, and mind tricks work...

    This is the Force!! Obi-Wan tells Luke in Episode One the the force "surrounds us, it penetrates us, and in binds the Galaxy together." Dark matter fits this description, because, like Kyle said at the beginning, there are millions of dark matter particles zipping through us at any given point. And, although Kyle also said that dark matter is what is making the universe expand, dark matter is why galaxies spin the way they do, so it keeps them together with their unseen mass. Some of the other Force powers can be explained with other reasons, but the telekinesis-like abilities the Force grants totally match Kyle's description of the abilities given by Element-0.

    So is Element Zero dark matter? Or at least capable of making it somehow? That would explain various other things, considering that literally all their tech runs on eezo. From biotics, to starship drive cores, artificial gravity, guns, shields, and even a toothbrush (which to me is a sign that toothbrush technology is fine as it is right now. Why spend all that money for advances in a toothbrush? Though it is slightly hard to knock the thing, it did open the Normandy's escape hatch.)
    Also, don't you know? Garrus is love, Garrus is life.

    Could it be that Wolverine has AIDS after all the years he stabbed people and came in contact with their blood.
    Could be possible because Wolverine is just a human whos healingfactor is much stronger, that doesn't mean he has something that works against HIV.
    Our T-Cells don't work against HIV, why should Wolverines. And all of that is the reason why is healingfactor doesn't work that good anymore.

    Uses Singularity 100m above a planet with more gravity than the planet ripping huge chunks of the planet at the Singularity with enough force to generate massive explosions. After huge chunks of the planet rain back towards the planet from 100m above it's surface causing massive destruction.
    Uses Singularity inside a space station. Space station implodes at the speed of the gravitational force like a train tanker suddenly forced to have a vacuum inside it, inside the atmosphere.
    Kyle the way you just described biotics would make it telekinesis with the use of gravity. The options become almost limitless... Never more have I been more afraid of an Asari.

  • @Neo-vz8nh

    Well if i know well, eezo changes it's mass if it gets electrical.
    How it works is the SCI-FI part, but the cause of the mass change is more likely because of the dark energy rather then dark matter. The only special in dark matter is that, it can not be seen (no body know how it looks, but maybe it would simply looks black). However it does the same thing as normal matter in relation with gravity. So you don't need dark matter to do this kind of thing, you can do it with normal matter too (of course you can use dark matter). Probably micro black holes make the gravity (which cannot be seen).
    The dark energy is a thing which has the opposite attribution of mass, basically some kind of negativ matter. So the optimal number of matter and dark energy would cancel each other out, and that's what we need. If you can control the dark energy, you can control the mass, and that's the point in the eezo.
    So nope, ME uses dark energy.

In the episode "Crimes of the Hot", bender and the other robots use their exhaust to push the push the earth slightly farther away from the sun, directed by the Professor! This cooled the earth slightly and gave an extra week or so to the year! Could this actually work, and how much force would be needed, and how much force did Bender contribute?

  • @maxsalmon4980

    Hm! I think the 'official' idea of mass effect fields is creating a field that actually changes the gravitational/inertial mass (as distinct from matter) within it. Some kind of Higgs manipulation or something. The 'dark energy' thing is just jumping onto a pop-science catchphrase from when the series was made. :)

    Here's my question: Mass Effect's lore talks a lot about how Element Zero exposure caused a lot of cancer and death before (and even after) it was figured out. So why didn't they just load up these Biotic powers into their omni-tools? They operate on the same technological foundation of eezo, so wouldn't that be safer than exposing fetuses to radioactive material?

    Aren't you confusing 'dark matter' which is inobservible material in outer space widely hypothesized to be gas clouds and other non-light-emitting hard-to-detect substances, with Dark Energy, which is a universe-permeating giant question mark floating in the middle of astrophysics because we have no idea what it is, where it is, how to find it or why it's there.

  • @NerdyZanoth

    Maybe I don't fully understand dark matter, but if has gravitational forces similar to matter, then it wouldn't work for Mass Effect aside from maybe the singularity power because it'd affect everyone and everything nearby simultaneously and that's not exactly how biotics work in Mass Effect.

  • @thomasparkin259
    @thomasparkin259 7 лет назад

    You can get around the catastrophic collateral damage by remembering the basic application of Mass Effect, the manipulation of Mass, or at least relative mass.
    Remember how the Tantalus core works with it's stealth mobility? It creates a pocket of high relative mass ahead of the Normandy so she can 'fall' into it.
    The same applies here, first the biotic lessens the target's mass before manipulating the conditions around them.
    It can't be pure Dark Matter manipulation as mass effect can explicitly reduce the mass of an object.
