Unfortunately, I wasn't able to inspect and find a raw player to grab a full res copy from so I had to do a dirty screen recording. The original footage seems to be 576i@30fps but I cant be sure so I just did 1080p@60 to preserve as many of wades luscious beard hairs as possible.

After 3 weeks this video seems to have hit the algorithm.
For international viewers context, this was a segment aired on 9 News Australia's "A Current Affair" show which is basically an aggregation of various stories of various importance. The show is designed to, but rarely achieves its goal of, giving a broad overview in what is happening in every facet of the news. They bring on "experts" to discuss topics briefly so you're up to date with things they cover so its basically intended to be the "Jack of all Trades" for Australian news despite rarely covering anything that could be considered news. The show itself has quite polarising opinions throughout the Australian populous due to 9 being part of Fairfax media which is infamously a liberal leaning platform (Aus Liberal=Conservative, Labor=American Liberal) but thats not for me to discuss. Go to friendlyjordies for that kind of commentary.
It is cool to see that traditional media now considers RUclipsrs as reliable sources but this could just be a one off with DankPods as, really, how many iPod experts are there.
Well if you have followed who dankpods is. He has stated many times he has done pod repair/ restoration for a living. On top of being a musician. I feel like you are way understanding him as a person.
@@murlock270 I've followed him since 70k so yeah I know this. This comment didn't mention anything about his music or repair skill so I don't see how I'm underestimating him? (I think that's what you meant in place of understanding.) I'm just saying it's cool that an entity as prestigious as 9 Fairfax considers Wade to be a reliable source. They'll usually go for their onsite "tech expert" or some such. This is not to say that Wade is a bad repairman, musican or iPod specialist, this is to say that out of all the repairmen, musicians, and apple fanatics in Australia, they chose Wade.

@@murlock270 this is a comment about traditional media relationship with youtubers, not Wade's Wikipedia page. That detail wasn't required. If someone is watching this video about Wade on the news, I would hazard a guess that they don't need Wade's life backstory.

I actually discovered him with his video about RUclips’s problems where he’s showing his face and holding Frank, so this is the least shocking to me lol
I too first saw what the glorious nugget looked like by the “RUclips’s problems” video except I recognised Frank before anything else. Like “hold up is that Frank what the heck omg is old mate”
Same, I too first saw him in the Dankmus "youtube problems" video before he even started Dankpods. I think the channel had like 70 subscribers and the Shrekpod video had a few hundred views when I first found it by total accident on his community page. As a creator myself, it makes me so dang happy for him to see his well-deserved success.

It’s so weird to hear him talk that serious. No screaming, no “DINGUS!”, no being annoyed by another PKCELL rolling down, no being worried about the duck, no “nugget”, even though it’s about MP3 players.

Imagine the reaction of anyone who decided to check out his channel after that interview.

I think DankPods put a big influence on the iPods revival and stability in todays era of mp3 players dying out.
But music players aren't dying; companies like FiiO and Hiby make flagship music players.
The mp3 format is dying though because it's an outdated codec, OPUS codec for example take the same amount of storage as mp3 files and sometimes even less but has 8 times better sound quality; which is pretty close to the quality of FLAC codec being 10 times better than mp3 but FLAC files are very large since it's 99% compression free, being 10 times larger than average mp3 files.
@@Zed-Corps yeah but they arent exactly as popular today due to smartphones and computers that already have that built in mp3 and mp4 playing capability, sure they are still alive, like record players and records, just not in touch with the market like it was 20 years ago.
@@Zed-Corps and you have to remember, anything not mp3 or m4a, arent really used widely upon most devices people use because mp3 is still used by people who enjoy music, people arent too worried about size and absolute sound quality you cant hear.

Then when it comes to music digital releases from Europe and Asia; downloads are offered in OPUS and FLAC codec most of the time, in most Asian countries FLAC codec is sworn by.
VLC is on all platforms; PC (Windows and in most Linux distros), Android, iOS, natively plays OPUS files and it's the most popular media player globally, comes included in most computers, even in stock Raspberry Pi OS Debian.

It's so strange seeing the face of a creator you've been watching with only their voice for years. It happened with Pyrocynical as well. I think it just ruins a part of the mystery. In my head I imagined Dankpods as a much different dude.

Rather say "nono", DankPods even more so. Especially when this footage doesn't provide any meaningful info, knowledge or something worth such hassle in general. I mean what kind of value you find in such tv news... Nada. Just one of another things in commercial public tv.

It's funny hearing him talk "normally" after hearing so much of his Dankpods voice.
You can tell how Passionate Wade is about this, and I wish I could be that enthusiastic about something the way Dankpods is with ipods.
i will say being a fan of dankmus, it is incredibly strange seeing the aussie boy on tv, like they probably asked him what his hobbies were to set up a set for the interview and he probably said “uh i dunno mate i play the drums and like ipods”

Crazy how I discovered this dank dude from my recommendations; thing is I didn't search anything iPod related before but I was intrigued to watch his videos because I always wanted a Classic, didn't matter which, but thanks to him it pushed me to own my first Classic, the 4th gen. Then after that, the Mini (Not a Classic) and finally my favorite iPod Classic, the 5th gen, and have Flash modded each one. I do want a 1st gen, just to have it but I lose every bid everytime lol.
I don't use apple products at like all but suddenly DankPods is in my recommended and I've been watching him since like his 5th video
I think I got recommended the nerf nugget vid and just found it interesting nerf made mp3 players, now he's one of my favourite Content Creators period.
The iPod was iconic, I still think it has a place in 2022 as sometimes people want to disconnect from their phones and just listen to a song on a walk or during a workout. Also there’s somewhat of a modding scene when it comes to the iPod classic.
Just put your phone in "Airplane mode" and you're disconnected from the world.
Dank inspired me to buy my first iPod classic, a 6th gen refurb. I've had a nano and a touch, but never the Big Nug itself. So far so good. The real serial number doesn't match the replacement back plate, since obviously they must be mass produced with a default serial, but I like it. I like to feel the hard drive spin up.. it's charming.

For some reason… it’s essentially just a half hour of “we have nothing to talk about, so here’s a filler story that can very loosely be considered “news”.”

Dankpods taught me the value of having a dedicated device for a purpose using your smart phone like an MP3 player is good but someone can call you and interrupt the music. with an iPod or some sort of dedicated MP3 player nobody can contact you on that and it doesn’t interrupt the music “I am the one that presses pause.”
Also having a separate device save the battery of your other devices because instead of having a smart phone that does everything have a dedicated phone and use it as a phone have a dedicated MP3 player in use as an MP3 player. Purely because since you’re using your MP3 player or your iPod to listen to music you’re saving the battery on your phone to be used as a phone when you need it.

I've had different incarnations of the iPod for years now. I use the iPod Touch while working out and it has my 6,500 songs on it which is great! I was and probably still am really disappointed that Apple decided to stop production of this amazing little device. I don't have an overly expensive iPhone because I wouldn't want to use my phone for music. I like having a dedicated device that just brings music to my ears...Apple failed on the discontinuing the iPod in any incarnation possible.
I'm still rocking my iPod Classic 160GB. It is still very portable and can play music for hours and hours. I don't have to drain my phone dead. I use it mostly on long drives or when cutting the lawn for 8 hours. I had to send it to a repair store a few years ago and it was totally worth it. People laugh at me for having. Phone's still aren't to the point I get rid of it yet.
Same! Bought my iPod Classic 7th Gen when they came out. Teenager me saved up weeks of my allowances and odd jobs to be able to afford it. Still have it 14 years later and she runs fine. I need to get the headphone jack fixed as well as maybe a battery replaced since for years it sat dead in a drawer as I was going through my smartphone phase. Never selling it!

wouldn't cut it for me, my music is getting to 2TB of storage, most devices struggle to play my whole collection; even with external hard drives.
@@Zed-Corps you can mod it with an ssd, there’s videos on it but depending on the model it can be a massive pain in the ass.
Wade is the best out there to describe everything about every mp3/4 players and ipods. I absolutely love this man for his all his hard wo4k and channels on RUclips. Keep it up everyone who made this possible.

Wade is the reason I have an OG video. Used his videos to know what to look for, found one almost free in mint condition, replaced the battery and did an SD conversion.
500gb, battery last for days, and the audio quality that comes out of these older iPods is still, unmatched.

I always wanted the 5th gen iPod Nano which had the built in camera, so I bought a few broken ones back in 2018 and carefully disassembled them to make a working one and still have it working! Super glad I got them after hearing this news!
