I thought James keeping every screen he’d ever replaced would be the craziest part of the video and then he just sticks his bare hand into a box of broken glass
with a pull tab for the battery, even. The designers knew that at some point someone will need to open it to not just throw away a working phone with a dead battery. Kinda sad to see how they gave up on that
That was the only thing easy to do on that phone. To replace the screen, you had to nearly take the whole thing apart. The screen was locked in for the bottom. The truly best iPhone to service was the 5c. I did phone repair around this time and I could be in and out with a new screen and battery in about 7 minutes. A 4 or 4s took nearly an hour for the same type of work.
@@Khuros If you have a full time job and would rather have a hobby when not working that isn't filming you talking about a hobby, spending more hours editing, then uploading and managing; yeah, it is kind of hard.
As a fellow repair (wo)man, that tip on leaving the magnet on the screwdriver is very accurate. I do that for ALL my screwdrivers, even if they're already magnetized. Great job James! I would love to see more repair tips from you as well as hijacking Wade's desk. You might also be able to repair all the dents on his ipad as well. I have a cool idea that you could do. Try to game, but on an E-Paper display. it would be cool to see you try that. Probably won't work, but I would LOVE to see it.
When Wade started running into problems in his video I was getting really anxious knowing how easy it is to remove the back plate and install a new battery. Thank you for alleviating my itch! 😅I repaired a handful of these a few months ago as I'm learning to become a computer and mobile repair technician at my job. My father had a few of these lying around as back up phones. Some were water damaged and some had non-functioning buttons or batteries, so I transplanted a lot of parts just for the fun of it.
Something to remember, Siri has to be connected to the internet. It used to be great and ACTUALLY interactive. Over the years, they dumbed it down for the same reasons macOS got less and less for professional users… really bad. So the servers of that version are probably just redirecting to the selected search engine in the settings.
Nearly all of the services in iOS 6 don't work anymore aside from maps ironically. Siri used to be able to tell you the weather without redirecting and it used to do calculations using a web plugin from WolframAlpha, but those don't work anymore.
They did the same with Google's Assistant. It's so fucking annoying to have these things, which are literally there to respond to voice commands, be unable to respond to as many because "the feature wasn't used enough". Wtf just leave it in for the people who DO use it.
I used an iPhone 4s from the year they came out until the end of 2021. During that time the phone was smashed, bent and several times submerged in water but I always was able to fix it easily and cheaply with parts from other 4s's that were broken in different ways, it was actually a very fun device to work on. I eventually had to upgrade as I needed to use some apps for work that couldn't run on old verions of IOS so I now have an iPhone 13 Mini and while it is a great phone, I still miss the smaller easy to one hand size of the 4s and of course the headphone jack.
This was absoluely brilliant! Almost thought it was going to be a random parody video until I saw it was from the man, the myth, the legend, the James! Also glad the 4S just needed a new battery
Lovely stuff, we need more of James' videos at the DankPods desk :D And good job of being able to get the iPhone 4S working! The iPhone 4S was the last device to use the 30-pin connector, with the iPhone 5 using Lightning. It was also the last device to only support 3G; the iPhone 5 supported basic 4G LTE and the iPhone 5C/5S expanded on this.
I like to think that James did this without talking to Wade first as a surprise. Plus that magnet trick is awesome. James is awesome. Forget love, find the James in your life.
God bless you James, I love dank pods and have been on youtube for 10 years. The 4s video inspired me to make a full 30 min IOS 6 related video showing it off and what not. Thank you for tying up the lose end of the last dank pods video. IOS 6 is such fun to use but the app store got shut down which is a big bummer.
