That Explorer looks the perfect size on your wrist. Makes the other Rolex sports watches look slightly oversized by comparison. Congratulations on having such a diverse collection.

This collection is borderline perfect for my taste, especially the 36mm Explorer 124270 and the Rootbeer for when you want a little more bling is what I'm into

Awesome collection! Thanks for sharing. Agree that the Tudor Gmt should go. Reverso is certainly a great choice. Another option is Cartier tank which you can consider as well.

Thank you for passing on your knowledge. Event hough I am nowhere near in buying a Rolexor any luxury piece I sure learn a lot and start understanding and appreciating the craftsmanship. I do have a Seiko inherited from my father though.

The Datejust and Explorer fit and suit you perfectly. I agree about the Tudor. If I may, it’s too big and redundant. All the more knowing your interest in a Reverso, which you should consider in gold or another precious metal. That said, congrats on the wins over the past few years. Wear them in good health! And happy retirement!

What a great review, Chap. I truly appreciate your openness, especially when it comes to prices and such. You made some good investments with the pre-pandemic purchasing spree 😃 I am not a big fan of Rolex myself, but my favourite watch in your collection must be the Datejust. Cheers!

    Beautiful collection, thanks for sharing.
And you read my mind with the question of "what's next?". A dress piece is definitely needed. A Reverso is never a wrong answer. But let me suggest an FP Journe for consideration as well!

I can relate to your lack of enthusiasm for the Daytona. I thought I'd love it, but having an (**cough**) "homage" of it in my collection, I have learned otherwise.
A Reverso on the other hand - oh my! Had two in yellow gold on the wrist last month and I loved both of them. The grande taille especially is a wonderful size; somewhat petite by modern standards, but perfectly balanced for fans of classic proportions like you and me.
    Happy new year, Ash!

Wonderful collection. Nice diversity. It’s amazing that a simple wrist watch is still so important to us. A fine watch is all about how it makes us feel, the emotions it brings. Telling time is secondary.

I enjoyed your review of your collection immensely. I think that you did the little paint splattered Casio a great honor by surrounding her with royality. You have a wonderful channel. Dressing and presenting yourself smartly is becoming a lost art. Good grooming, tasteful clothing, polished shoes, and the watches that you wear send a message to others that you are a good man. Good grammar and polite speech are also very important. The most important part of all this is that it is a tremendous boast of self confidence. When you look good, you feel good. I really appreciate the time and effort that you take to put out these videos. You are the epitome of a classic British gentleman.

I strongly agree: The moment one buys and wears a Rolex for the first time is a very unreal, enlightening feeling and hard to describe: They are so hard to get hold of when looking to buying them new, and then when one finally gets the call from the authorized dealer, and then actually buying it, at least for me as not being wealthy there is this feeling of achievement made possible by my efforts in my job. I am really, really enjoying this feeling - refreshed every time I look at my wrist for the time.

Last year I tried on my first Rolex. I’m 18 now and am just getting into the professional and business world and my goal watch-wise is still to have a Rolex Day-Date Oysterquartz - who knows when that’ll happen but I hope in good time. The feeling you get when you have a Rolex on-wrist is truly unparalleled compared to most watches just due to their design, proportions, their weight etc.

Please take a look at the Omega DeVille line. It is such a stunning model from Omega. Reminds me of a Calatrava.
Agree with the DateJust. The new motif dial is just off the chain entirely. Obscenely beautiful!
That 36mm explorer is too too nice. Was never a fan of them before but I really like 36mm watches and I just get it now.
I will always prefer 36-39mm watches. So much more elegant.
Cannot go wrong with reversos. Elegance personified - so, so, so much nice than a Carter Tank imho.

Happy New Year Ash. Thanks for the video. Very nice collection of watches - more than anything I think it symbolises your watch journey (up to now). When you say you are looking at rectangular watch, I assume you are thinking about the Reverso’s and (Cartier) Tanks but recently I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on an Oris Rectangular. They were released a few months ago (in four colours) and combine a Tank case with Reverso-esque dial. They probably size up the same as the Reverso mediums. For the price, they could scratch the rectangular watch itch!

I like that Oris, a little steep on the price, but I've heard of large discounts on Oris models of late. May be a runner.

Really enjoyed this review and love your Rolex GMT-Master II. Like you, I always remember buying my first Rolex, a simple Date Just and wearing it for the first time.
The feeling of self confidence you get wearing a great watch on an important occasion is something many people never experience now because they just use their phone! On the subject of watches with four sides, have you considered a Cartier Tank? I just added one to my collection. I love the shape and history of this watch and feel great wearing it.

Lovely collection Ash! As per a comment I made on another of your videos, I’m not surprised that your Explorer is getting so much wrist time!
Based on your love for a full gold watch, I’d be looking to trade all 3 GMTs in for a full gold Rolex GMT which I think would tick loads of boxes for you. Also what about a Cartier Santos as an alternative to a Reverso? I find then a little more sporty.

That is a very nice collection, I would let the Tudor go and buy a nice dress watch. I wanted a rectangular dress watch too, however when I tried one on; the first thing I noticed were the two semicircles of Scottish, blue-white skin on either side of it where my day watch had shielded my skin from the sun.

I'd sell 2 of the GMTs (Tudor being one of them) and propably get a Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle in pink gold. OR! get two watches like a Reverso and IWC Portugieser 40/Big Pilot 43.

Well done Ash, why not trade in a watch or two for the JLC? I transitioned from Rolex and Tudor dive watches from over a 20 years to more dressy styles in taste like JLC Master Time and Breguet. Simple and elegant. Will wait a few years yet before I pick one up. For now I will settle with Frederique Constant watches that look similar and more practical.

Loved the video and seeing your journey. I recently picked up an explorer as well, and a Cartier Santos in the medium size. When thinking about the reverso I would highly recommend you check out Cartier as well with the santos and the tank. Just out of curiosity, you say you would love a solid gold GMT Master II, but can’t afford it. Have you considered selling the Pepsi and the two tone GMT’s and getting a full gold GMT? With resale prices what they are right now (even recognizing that yours are used and not NIB) you could probably get enough between the two to get a gold GMT

The RB is an absolute stunner and destined to be the most memorable of the current GMT range in my opinion. Once people appreciate the value of gold again, I'm sure that the precious metal models will have their spotlight again.
When discussing a new watch purchase with the wife, I usually emphasise the investment value of such a watch "But darling, as soon as you buy it from the AD is worth another £3K, so it's earning money and not spending it!"
Worked a few times but I've been busted for a while now. Worth a shot on the lady in your life.

Rolex has managed to create a false shortage just like the toilet paper shortage of a couple years ago in the USA, I refuse to go on a ridiculous waiting list or pay extra money for one, that’s why I have a Omega, it keeps extraordinarily good time, 0.02 of a second fast per day.

Mine is a Q series model and apparently these may have been manufactured post the date issue, so no issues so far.

Great video. Wondering what your thoughts are on the Yacht Master 40? Looking to get my first Rolex, but given the difficulty getting one from an AD, trying to balance something I like with something that is feasible to grab at retail price. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Firstly remember that all watches are subjective in their appeal, many chaps love huge watches and many love digital watches, it's all about your personal preference. As regards to the YM 40, I am not a huge fan of the YM range, as they have always struck me as being softer alternatives to the Submariner range. But they do offer greater variety in regards colours of dials and other aspects. A very nice watch in almost all respects, but it would be a Sub for me.

Lucky to get your Pepsi when you did……the price rises today are quite substantial!

Absolutely, the GMT range has taken quite a hit. Looks like I saved the best part of £1K. That was a close run thing!

@@TheChapsGuide Yep! I’m still hoping to pick up a Submariner or Datejust this year, despite the price increase I still think they are worth the retail price…..just.

A happy new year to you and your family! 🍀
My congratulations for building up such a respected collection in only three years! You’ve worked hard and you’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to purchase your Rolex timepieces at retail.
For my personal taste your collection is leaning a little bit too much towards the Rolex brand. But I could understand why it is what it is.
As you’ve already mentioned I could see a JLC as another more dressy watch in your collection. I love my Reverso Small Second mid size. There is one more JLC timepiece I personally like very much - the Master Ultra Thin Moon Phase.
I’m not a big chronograph fan. But I’m convinced a watch collection should contain such a complication. There are only very few chronographs I really like. One is the Zenith El Primero Original in 38mm. This timepiece might be a long term goal for your collection as well.
My favourite watch of your current collection is the Explorer. I tried it on a couple of weeks ago and find it in fact a bit too small for my 18.5cm wrist. I had the chance to compare it with a Datejust 36 and a Tudor BB 36. And the Explorer wears a bit smaller than the other two. But maybe I have to give it another chance because I own a couple of vintage watches with only 33-35mm. And I wear them occasionally as well.
I’m looking forward to see how your watch collection is going to develop during the next years.
    Best regards,
    Claus

I agree, the new Explorer does indeed wear smaller than the DJ36, but as a small watch lover, I rather like its classical proportions.

I think Omega make outstanding wristwatches of amazing quality. It is merely my personal preference to favour Rolex at the moment. I may consider Omega at some point in the future. James Bond must be right!

@@TheChapsGuide I have DJ36 and am wait listing for some kind of GMT Master II. On the Omega side, I have a James Bond Titanium Bracelet, a Speedy Hesalite and my AD is keeping her eye out for a Snoopy. 🤞🏼on the Snoopy.
