The Cool Mikado (1963)

In this musical, the Gilbert and Sullivan classic is updated and set in post-war Japan. This time, the trouble begins when a soldier, the son of a Yankee judge, falls in love with a Japanese girl. This enrages her Yakuza fiancé who kidnaps him.

frankie called it the embarrasingly worst thing Ive ever done but it lead to him getting picked for other musicals like .Forum,..While surrounded by comedians like Mike & Bernie, writer./director Michael Winner was amazed at how if he asked Frankie or tommy cooper to tell a joke they,d look horrified as if their lives depended on it, while if he asked jimmy Tarbuck (not to my knowledge in the film) the only worry is how to stop him!

Not the greatest film ever made - but fun to see some old familiar faces - Mike & Bernie, Pete Murray, Frankie, the gorgeous Jacqueline Jones, Tsai Chin and beat music from the John Barry Seven

So bad it's good ... And it's really bad. But what fun, if you ignore the political incorrectness. Great choreography from Lionel Blair, don't miss the fan dance. And try and spot who's singing with their actual voice or someone else's.

I've just flicked through about 15 minutes of this film and I can't decide if it's so bad it's somewhat good, or just plain shite. I'm leaning toward the latter.
