    Well now , that confirms that I don't want to get involved with making gas checks . Good info for those that do want to .

      It is definitely a lot of work, and I'm glad we can still just powder coat alone if we want. But, I figured I'd start with my most used caliber and have another option to play with. Some say they help accuracy if a bullet allows a gc, some say pc only is better. I guess I'll have to test it on my own!

      @@DummyRound There are a few things that can cause the gas check to be worse also . If the check is not formed flat , not installed correctly , if the sprue cut left a bump on the bullet base and probably a few other things I'm not thinking of .

    Had a Pat Marlins. Ended up selling it because I did not like the two step process. Ended up building a one stroke with plans from the internet. Much happier, sold the Pat Marlins.

      It is a pain in the ass and my next GC dies will be a single step process.

      It's pretty cool but there are 1 step dies now available. This one works, just have to punch and then form your checks. Thanks!

    Couldn't you just powder coat instead?

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  Год назад +1

      You could certainly do that. You can also do both. With PC, it doesn't do much more to prevent leading, but moreso insures a consistent and even base on your bullet, which should aid in accuracy. I'll definitely compare groups of PC+GC vs PC alone when I get to it. Thanks!

      If you powder coat, and add GC’s…. You can push them almost like jacketed.

  • @Krymsyn_Rydyr
    @Krymsyn_Rydyr Год назад +3

    Yeah… not a fan of Pat Marlins.
    1) Rediculous long time from order/ payment to delivery.
    2) if you ask him why, you get a song and dance about not being able to get materials, because of Covid, even though other check die makers are putting them out.
    3) Two step / stroke process just too much, while there are simple one stroke setups for same price.
    4) the design is a PITA. Switching ends around and fastening set screws… and wait until you accidentally bust one off.
    5) you have to make strips to feed into the slot. Most other models are just one sided slits, so your strips don’t need to be so precise.
    I bought two, that I had to wait several months for. Bought two single stroke ones, else where, and sold the marlins, as soon as they showed up.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  Год назад +1

      Yep, I'm definitely looking at the 1 Stroke from 22LRReloader. The wait time was crazy and two step process is kinda tedious. It's nice to have an option, but I'm not itching to crank out a batch of them, either. Which brand did you go with?

      @@DummyRound I , personally like DMattesons, I own several… however Hurricane Ian destroyed their home and shop. Will prolly take them a while to get back going. I’ve heard good things about 22 reloader, but I don’t have any.
      Edit: I should say, nothing personal about marlins, other than lead time…. He does make a super high quality die… it a solid, precise piece of machining, by a master craftsman. Just to me, the actual design and function drive me away.
