The sit pad will fit in the back zipper pocket. I use a cup and bottle in my Helikon Haversack. Yes it's tight fit but fits none the less.

get a smaller bottle, or one that is taller but less circumference

The pocket for water bottle is designed for Helikon Tex own "nalgene copy" bottle which has a slightly thinner diameter. I have both Nalgene and the Helikon tex bottle so I have tried both . But I agree it would make sence to make it 1 cm wider.

I’m currently exploring options to modify and fix the strap problem myself. It should be adjustable, that would only make sense given the tight fight of the top cover. There is a quick fix if you just want to give it some extra wiggle room, the bottom buckle is only stitched on where your top buckle clips in to secure the bag shut. If you look inside the bag you can see the stitching to that lower buckle just unstitch and restitch a couple centimetres higher and should help out. I’m considering doing this, but like you i want an adjustable strap.

need more room try the bushcraft satchel. I believe the strap is short on purpose. to help stop overloading. the satchel is 17L in size

Good vid on this haversack. I agree with you on the couple of improvements that they could make. I would also like to point out that it looks like you have the smaller one, there is a larger version as well.

Yes, I've used a couple, but really prefer the traditional haversack with a hatchet sleeve.

Thank you for mentioning the water bottle pocket size. I was wondering if it was elastic enough to fit the pathfinder canteen cookset.

Just found this video and was wondering if helikon considered your suggestions for changes to buckle and water bottle pocket. Im considering buying one. Do you still use yours?

Unfortunately they made no changes. I have since switched to using a sling bag, which is more comfortable for me. You can see it in some of my more recent videos

Great review and nice bag! Never used a haversack but do really like the concept. My only question would be the shoulder strap. I see it isn’t padded or have a slidable pad like some duffel bags. Do you notice it digging into your shoulder/ neck when loaded out? Cooler temps wouldn’t be an issue within a jacket on but in the summer and maybe only a T-shirts, I would think it would dig in some. Love the channel as always!!

Thanks, yes in a tshirt I do feel the strap, but I have found that if I keep it on the outside of my shoulder, not so much.

I would prefer a backpack to a haversack. The haversack seems to be a "thing" now with RUclips bush craft people. But I just don't think it can compare with a backpack for convenience and carry comfort. What I actually think is happening is that the RUclips bush crafters are running out of things to talk about so they seized on the Haversack and what's in it to fill up half a dozen videos.
For most people their interest is prepping and the idea that when the SHTF they can grab a pack and survive. Watch any of the current survivalist TV shows and it is obvious that most of us won't survive. Not because we chose a backpack over a haversack or because we didn't bring three ways to make fire. In the end it will all come down to getting enough to eat. And for some reason the RUclips bush crafters don't really deal with this. Oh, they give it a lick and a promise now and the, sometimes even create a kit to snare or fish with. But the bottom line is in 90% or more of the back country you are going to starve to death. We, modern humans, don't know how to hunt and gather and the learning curve is too steep once we are actually out there. I would like to see the "experts" cover this issue better.

@@Alas-xj8cr Not really sure what to reply. I do bushcraft because I love being in the woods, feeling free, exploring, watching wildlife, occasionally testing myself. Bushcraft skills are very enjoyable to learn and practice, and they give me the skills to get far away from people, roads, trails etc , and not even give it a second thought. I teach others there skills so they can enjoy the same freedom, and enjoy nature the same way as me. Not prepping for some event really. Simply, this is how I enjoy life to the fullest. Sitting in a lean to drinking Hot Cocoa by a fire in a blizzard, and being the only person in the woods, is a feeling I can't put into words.
As far as haversack, I sometimes carry one, sometimes a backpack, fanny pack, sling bag, vest, or just what's on my belt. Depends on what I feel, what I want to do, what challenge I want to take on etc. So, I've done videos with all of these so everyone can have the same options.

    • @Alas-xj8cr
      @Alas-xj8cr Месяц назад

Absolutely. Not trying to complain or be rude.
I truly believe that most people reading these kinds of blogs are thinking about SHTF or Armageddon especially the way the world is going now. But the single biggest challenege facing anyone trying to survive that kind of event is eating enough food every day until the crisis is over. This is so difficult that no one takes it on. SO what will happen is we will all die with three ways to make fire, and four ways to make clean water but no way to get enough food to live. I just wish more RUclips bush crafters would take up this challenge. I know the Oregon high desert well. Beautiful country. But if you aren't able to catch fish or shoot a deer you are going to be dead in three weeks. How do we solve this?

Stick the garbage bag in the back “map” pocket. Also protects gear from getting damp from sweat if it’s riding on you lower back for a period of time.
I have the same haversack and agree 💯 with your review and issues identified.
I found the slimmer Klean Kanteen fits the bottle pouch pretty well. I actually keep my UCO single candle lantern in that pouch.
Wish there was some Molly webbing on the bottom that I could strap my sit pad onto. Would be nice so that I was not setting the pack directly on the ground.
