3 YEAR UPDATE.... It's cool to see that this video is still getting so much attention...Thank you! I am, indeed, still carrying a lot of this same gear (over 3 years later) - That is proof that quality gear is worth the investment. HOWEVER, my loadout has changed a bit since this video. I've minimized a lot of things based on my experience level, training in the outdoors, and simple because I don't want to carry as much stuff (lol). If you'd like to see an updated Haversack Kit video, let me know by dropping me a comment below!
Always love seeing your gear. We have the exact same taste in gear, it’s like watching someone explain what I carry with me. Lol you’ve def. tipped me off to a few new things as well though. 💯
This is the kit that I have with me almost every single time I'm out for a day in the woods. If I'm going to be out overnight I simply add sleep gear. Super simple, lightweight and this kit gives me all the versatility I could need. Have questions? Drop a comment below!
I typically carry my bottle in my hand for a setup like this. Or I remove some items from the main compartment of my bag and slip the bottle in there. Another option that I do from time to time is tie my Shemagh around my waist and store my bottle + other little stuff in there if I need to be hands-free.
Thanks so much, man! I'm a huge fan of the versatility of military-style ponchos if I'm going out solo...it's all the space I need to shelter from a rain storm. And I can wear it while I'm walking. The "supertarp small" I showed here is super roomy though and it'd be my pick for an overnighter or trip with another person. And like you see, it's incredibly compact when folded. Hit me up if you need help deciding at any point 🙂👍🏻
Great video and excellent review. I also use Helikon Tex material. Great quality. I’ve got the Hillpeople haversack. The Helikon is better made. Only suggestion I can make is carry as much on your belt. And stick that paracord inside. I also have a dedicated ridge line. But I keep it attached to my tarp. Really great set up.
@@AnthonyAwaken I like your videos. And you aren’t presenting a lot of unused kit. You are using it before presenting it. Many channels look like I’m being sold something. That the presenter is only Back Yard Bushcrafting

I actually noticed that during my last winter survival class...I hadn't changed my kit from the previous winter. (If it ain't broke, don't fix it...lol)
@@AnthonyAwaken I’m still using kit from 35 years ago. I’ve got my kit dialed in. I’m always looking at the new stuff. And I offer my clients the new stuff. I just keep seeing guys making videos of gear tests and wonder when do they really have the time to test it out. And the fact that most looks like it just came out of the wrapper. My kit looks used.
Question: I looked on the Helikon tex US website & couldn't find the same bag you have. Any idea on if they r just not selling the one anymore or am I looking on the wrong website?
Nice bag review. I'm considering to get it as well because I love the design haha. I just keep thinking about how I might prefer a small backpack for carrying that much because I move quick and far
This bag is fantastic! It definitely covers most of my loadout for the year (especially for day trips). But, if you prefer a small backpack check out the following: - Helikon-Tex Raccoon MK2 (I use this as my get-home bag and it's phenomenal: anthonyawaken.com/get-home-bag-contents-list/) - Recycled Firefighter 12 Hour Bag (I've used this bag since the first prototype and it's insanely comfy) Hope that helps!
Thanks for watching! I just carry my water bottle by hand. I've gotten so used to doing this in my everyday life that it has carried over to being in the woods too. And it saves room for more Mary Poppins survival gear inside the bag, lol #bonus 🤣
Hey bro! I highly recommend the Lester River Boreal Anorak: lrbushcraft.com/lester-river-bushcraft-wool-boreal-shirt-anorak/ - It's expensive, but man is it a great piece of clothing in the outdoors! I saved for a year to buy mine and don't regret it one bit. PS: I have a tote of stuff for you to look through again. Text me sometime and you can look through it all :)
Great rundown on the Haversack and load out. Way to go as a minimalist. You're definitely ready to get by and then some. Some unhappy douche gave you a thumbs down and it's cracking me up cause I believe you gave a great presentation. 👍🏼😂
Thanks, bro! The minimalism of a haversack is so important and it's what made me fall in love with this type of bag years ago. You can easily set up an entire camp out of one. You're not burdened by a heavy bag while you're walking. And it doesn't take hours of time to pack it up at the end of the day or the next morning. Perfect for quick trips! PS: And there's always gonna be that one in every group that doesn't like something, lol.
Sure thing! That's the "Bushcraft Folding Dump Pouch" by Helikon-Tex. It's a quality pouch as well :) I provide some more links to the products shown in this video here: anthonyawaken.com/helikon-tex-bushcraft-haversack/
Hey, thanks! I'm not sure if you're wanting to know if the bag itself will hold water, or if it will hold a metal/plastic canteen...So I'll answer both :) The bag itself will NOT hold water. It can definitely be unfolded to hold a metal or plastic bottle though. Hope that helps!
I can't remember the exact weight of this kit. But, these days I try to keep my haversack loadouts light (5-8lbs max). I've noticed if I carry much more than that in a haversack it can get uncomfortable.
Great video. Really well presented. Love the simplicity of this set up. Would you take a separate bag for an overnight trip or would you adapt this current set up? Thanks
Thanks for checking this out & for the kind words! If I'm heading out for an overnight camping trip I adapt this current loadout by adding a larger backpack & transferring the contents into it. Basically, the only things I add into the backpack are my sleeping bag, hammock, food and sometimes a larger cooking pot. Hope that helps :)
Glad you liked it, man! Told ya on Instagram that I was planning on doing more video, lol :) And yeah, the Helikon-Tex Haversack is super roomy. Lots of capability with this bag!

Hey sorry, Michael...I must've got to talking too fast there, lol. Gorilla Tape is an excellent fire extender. A bit more info: • You can shred gorilla tape up into slim slivers. Then put the slivers into a loose "ball" shape and hit it with a ferro rod or lighter. • Depending on the size of your "gorilla tape ball" (G.T.B. - I just made that up) it will burn for a long while. • It works well in wet weather as well since the sticky part of the tape is the most flammable & the exterior sheds water like a ducks back. • I typically make a loose softball-sized G.T.B. and it burns for right around 10 minutes. Hope that helps!
