- In this video, I for a walk in the woods to try out my new haversack, made by Helikon-Tex. I also give my Mora Companion Spark a good testing, by carving a spoon and preparing/lighting a fire.
Came for the review of the bag, stayed for the sheer pleasure of sitting in the woods and watching you noodle. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Brilliant bit of kit from Helikon Tex. Thanks for the review. One of these days you’ll settle into the hidden woodsman haversack or you may just stick with the bag you have. It looks terrific. The truth is I really liked the carving and the sounds of the birds as much as anything. Beautiful video….

Wish there was a molle on the bottom to carry say a poncho. Plus the front buckle as you've said.

Yea… I make a kuksa and it split. I just use it for hard candy and tabletop stuff now. It was a first try and I didn’t know about keeping it moist for a while
Nice video but personally I don't see loading down a haversack with a bunch of gear. I'm rather old school and use it for carrying food as was originally done back in the day.
A knapsack works far better for gear than a haversack does because the shoulder straps spreads out the load. Plus living in bear country it separates food items from your gear and decreases the chance you will become a target for a predators next meal.
Keeping the haversack light also allows for a place to put wild strawberries, grapes, nuts and other food you come across on a trek. It's handy to place tinder in quickly on the go also.

You don't open the clip by pinching it. That hurts the fingers. You pull on the upper part of the strap, stick your finger under it and pull up/out.
thats a bloated haversack but you got a good deal with that screw the hidden woods mans prices have you waxed it yet if it hasn't been waxed coated yet great video sir

Those are supposed to be opened by pulling the loop above the clip, not by pinching the locking parts at the bottom of the clip.

Mora 106 knife. Cheap and probably the best carver available. For a hook knife, I'd recommended paying a bit more and buying a better quality one. Take a look at benandloisorford.com/store/#!/Carving-Knives-&-Tools/c/8705023

That Alder looks nice, but is it really suited for spoons and cups?
Alder is really abundant where I live and work. I find it lovely to carve green. I don't tend to get any problems with it.

Thank you for the review. I am still on the fence about this bag. I am after something for dog-walking, set up a simple shelter for lunch and walk back. I am using the polish bread bag at the moment (which is the same size as this haversack), but it is fills up quickly. The HT satchel seems too big/too much for a shoulder bag, so I am thinking of the HT bergen or a Karrimor SF Sabre/Predator 30, any thoughts?
If i was going on a long walk, with the intention of stopping for lunch etc my go to would always be a rucksack. The HT bergen looks really good. Not too big either.
Welsh Woodsman Outdoors But! Its the same price as the Karrimor has 12 more litres and molle/pals. Decisions, decisions.

The HT Haversack is a neat little bag and I myself was on the fence too, but I have the HT EDC side bag which practicaly is the same thing if you take into account that the water bottle goes outside of the bag. But the issue for me with this bag is again the size. Both this and the HT EDC are to small depending on what you want to do, and this haversack dosen´t have a belt strap. Personally Iam looking at the Condor E&E bag, it´s a bit bigger then this, has a belt strap aswell, and the top lid can be detached and has a see-through map pocket among other features. Price is about the same as this. For a slightly bigger bag, I use the Highlander Pro Force Forces 33litre backpack, it´s a perfect size, has padded shoulder straps, waterproof and the price is slightly mor expensive then this, so it wont break the bank for daily use. While the SF 30 is great, it´s just to much money for a pack that size and use IMHO. It´s not like your going to carry the pack for a three or more days hike were you need the extra comfort. The Highlander will do the same for less. Just some Ideas...

You say your knife isn’t made for carving? My body isn’t made for running but I can still get to my destination just fine by walking ;)
Also, almost every scandinavian knife/puukko like your mora is inherently made for carving/whittling and other kinds of woodcraft. All our(Finnish, Swedish etc.) knives more or less have the scandi grind and many of us are at loss if you hand us a blade with any other kind of grinding 😂
You need a bigger bag.
