Wonderful kit. I see a lot of elements of the WW2 pack in the design. One of which the axe handle is fed through. Was for folding trench tool. Way cool.
You had a map of Texas assumed you from Texas. If I had waited to the end of the video ,I would have realized you're from New Mexico. Best Mexican food in the world. True art form. Thank you for the video.
I like that bag and how you have modified its use. It is always good to see you in New Mexico enjoying the desert and its beauty. Have a Merry Christmas and see you next year. Thank you James.
I live in New Mexico so I really like your videos. This inspired me to get a haversack (old army issue but I can easily add buckles and sew in compartments. it has a rubberized waterproof liner though which is cool) and it's a great day bag and light weight to carry in my pack. Although I prefer to weave my molle. I have a pouch and canteen and they are much more comfortable when walking to have them secure instead of hanging.
That is awesome the amount of useful things you can carry in that bag. Thank you for making this video! This was very helpful. Question, why is this video from 2016? Were are your newer videos? I really enjoy watching!
Malcolm heard you. He added a lifting handle on top. I have two of these bags, one set for the back country, and the other for city travels. Great for summer when you need less gear and don't want a sweaty back.
so I also live in the desert. I love bushcraft and one thing I have been unable to make and find a video on is making a survival bow in the desert. as you know in the desert there sent as many resources and I was wondering if you could make a video on that. awesome videos! thank you for your time!
i actaully have never made a bow so i dont see me making a vid on that anytime soon but check out primitive lifeways channel, hes made a few of them plus hes in arizona.
Good video. I think your haversack is the best I've seen in a long time. Not too big, not too small, it's just right. I look forward to your next video. Keep up the good work.
I am out here in Vegas. I have also lived in the area Junkyard fox is in this video. I can tell both of you it is very different. I have been doing bushcraft out here in the Vegas area. But I find myself going to the higher elevation due to the heat. I agree its nicecto some desert guys out there.
I enjoyed your video. I have been trying out a haversack and a small messenger bag as alternatives to day packs on short hikes. Your video gave me some good information and perspective on what I am doing. I am located in the middle Tennessee area. Thanks for the informative video.
great video on great gear by a great guy, today our high temp was 4 degrees, with wind chill, minus 20, can you send some of your weather up here to the northeast.
I have been camping and bivouacking since I was in the Cub Scouts, and I have owned and used many haversacks over the years. Many. The Hidden Woodsmen version is certainly one of the very best I haver ever used. right now, it is the one I most frequently use. I don't think you can go wrong. Very well built. Nice video.
Great videos and enjoy the heck out of them. I know you are doing "how to videos" so I was wondering where you carry TP for the makeshift toilet. Will you be doing an informative short blip on useful ways to hit the john for us city slickers. Without getting "your boots dirty". LOL, but in all seriousness inquiring minds want to know.
I always admire the beauty in your videos. I also love your personality, makes the video so much more entertaining. I am mostly here for the knife reviews but I love outdoorsy things too. Wishing you the best for the new year, take care.
your cinematography is on point, i like that you bring more of an artistic side to these kinds of videos. and the music adds to the overall feel of the video as well
Wonderful video brother. Really showed the diversity of the bag and how great the quality is, all while seeing a serene backdrop and listening to awesome music. Keep it up my friend.
Junkyard Fox...all of Ur reviews r excellent & really appreciate how well U go into details. Good to see this because it really does come n handy making decisions on what I need. Hope that U & Urs have a Merry Christmas & safe- Happy New Year! Looking forward to some more outdoor videos...not just reviews. Everyone needs to remember Bob Hansler n their prayers.
Thank you for reviewing the bag and your gear. It seems to me that some items are superfluous. There is little food, and it’s probably worth taking more water in the desert. Unless, of course, there are not enough sources of it on the route. Tell me, how comfortable is it for your shoulder to carry a full bag all day? I understand that everyone chooses for themselves. It’s just that I’m used to a standard backpack, although I won’t refuse a medium-sized bag to go to the radial exits from the camp. Thanks
Very well done review, James. Great scenery, music and showing how the haversack can be used in the real world. I think the only thing people might be wondering about is an approximate price point. I think your handle idea is an excellent one!
I really like the looks of these and his other military inspired haversack, but I don't know if Id want to load something up that only hangs from one shoulder. I use a messenger bag for work and when I have my laptop, books, etc all loaded up its uncomfortable to carry very long, and it slides around.
Hi I've only just discovered you and I think what you do is awesome Could you tell me how can I get hold of the music you play on your video by curevo negro please I love the music
Dude! I've been waiting for this video! I love my Hidden Woodsmen Haversack! I have mine set up almost just like yours. Great video brother! Enjoy time with the fam and we will see you next year!
Merry Christmas James nice review on the haversack. I've been totin around a Maxpadition versapack for bout 7 years now. still need that horse brother.
Watching this in October 2021...timely guide for a script i am working on for a high-potential production post-Apocalyptic adventure tale set in tropical Venezuela ...and we have to decide how the main characters will dress and what gear they will carry...the rat traps really got my attention..
great vid James, Happy Holidays. I always felt I'm not a true woodsmen or bushcrafter if I didn't have Malcoms haversack. I love it and I don't leave home without it. thanks for the ideas. We need to get together this coming new year. God bless my friend.
Thank you so much for this video, it helps me setup my haversack. I appreciate your kind way of presenting your topic(s). It is an encouragement it builds friendship, keep it up my friend. I’ll keeping following your Chanel. Blessings! From the Philippines 🇵🇭
I did notice the "molle webbing" straps could be laced a little better, especially with the Alice clips. I did however like the info and video very much.
Love Hidden Woodsmen's stuff. I've got one of Malcom's back packs and it's solid. Made perfectly. Can't say enough good about Hidden Woodsmen. Great review. That's a great setup with very minimal payload to carry. I want one of these little bags.
James, your world is so different than mine here in Nova Scotia. Still, Malcolm's products work just as well for us here as it does for you even if we pack it slightly differently. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas
i know, its so crazy how the world is so radically different. awesome, if ye have a video with your hidden woodsmen bag setup, send me the link so i can check it out! thanks mark, happy holidays, brother.
Hi James. Didn't mean to mislead. I do not have a Hidden Woodsmen bag... at least not yet. I do have a couple of shoulder bags I use and I have seen other Canadians using Malcolm's haversack. I guess I was trying to say how versatile the design can be
Aloha James and this video was just Great along with the scenery makes me remember why I like this channel so much!!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your Family and can not wait to see what you have in store for us in 2017.
The intro was one of if not THE best I have ever seen on YT, wow, you’re so lucky to live in the Southwest! Beautiful desert scenery. Love your vids, you have a great way of making us feel like true friends. As if we’re sharing a campfire with you, real gift there. How cold does it get there? Keep up the fantastic work, and God Bless!
So happy I ordered mine! Got the black & Coyote color combination ,so i think it will fit into an urban environment just as well in the outdoors. Really wish he had your color combination in stock. Also I’m So glad they have added a grab handle now. As always it’s a pleasure watching your video! So glad I subscribed back when! Merry Christmas and God bless to you and yours!!! Cuervo Negro is Awesome! Thanx for turning me on to them!
thanks for watching! dude youre gonna love that haversack! im not sure if youve seen our latest video but were giving away 2 mora garberg knives. enter the contest for a chanceto get yourself an extra christmas present!
Junkyard Fox I absolutely did watch that awesome Giveaway video! I have the bell notification on your channel. I did enter. Also I make my own fixin wax ,if you don’t know what that is look up fixin wax on RUclips. I don’t sell them I just use it for chap stick, cuts, waterproofing gear, treating leather, &wood and steel on my axes and knives. I would love to send you some just out of appreciation of your channel. I live in Fresno Ca and it gets up to 113 to 115 and down to 30-32 so the fixin was should Serve you well.If your not interested it’s all good ,no hard feelings. But thanx for the reply and that awesome giveaway. I did let the hidden woodsman know by writing on the notes section of my order that I saw his haversack on JunkYard Fox 🦊. God bless and Merry Christmas!!!🎄🎁
i use a lot my magnifying glass for fire ignition (i live in the south of Spain, so plenty of sun here), now i collect dry and worn flowers of a thistle we name "Cardo Mariano" (Sybilum marianum) they ignite very easy with the lens or any source of spark, even the spark of a depleted buthane or gas lighter. (got to try it with flint and steel)
I know this is an older vid, but I must honestly say as long as I have been watching the tube, I am rarely as entertained by such an enjoyable video. The tunes don't hurt either. I have this channel pinned, subbed and the bell is rung. Thanks bro! PS I spent some time in Flagstaff & a few years on the high desert across the CA border.
Wonderful review. I just traded some gear for an older version of one of Malcom's Haversacks on BushCraftUSA and can't wait to get it. I also am enjoying the rest of your channel! I was stationed at White Sands Missile Range back in the 80s when I was enlisted Army and was one of the Scout Masters and Explorer Leaders on post. We got the kids out to the Needles as often as we could. Can't say that I miss the desert at all (I don't do well at 112˚F no matter how 'dry' the heat, and I vastly prefer the same boreal forests here in New England that Malcom designs his gear in) but it was always a good adventure and it is good to see someone enjoying it as well as you seem to.
Some of your modification (like the condor H2O pouch) seems very loose. I find it very irritating when my gear wiggles and wobbles around, whats your opinion on this? Do you mind that happening?
i dont mind it to be honest. if youre gonna order from the hidden woodsmen, im sure you can contact him and have him add extra molle straps to keep the gear tighter to the bag.
hey guys, be sure to check out a new haversack design by the hidden woodsmen review we made right here!

Your background music makes me want to watch a western... I dig it.
These are the types of videos that makes you stand out from other RUclips creators. Very enjoyable to watch. Thumbs up for sure...
thank ye so much, i appreciate all your kindness and support. happy holidays, brother.
Malcom is a great guy and an incredible craftsman. He makes a ton of very well thought out and practical items. Great video. Thanks
I like that bag and how you have modified its use. It is always good to see you in New Mexico enjoying the desert and its beauty. Have a Merry Christmas and see you next year. Thank you James.
have a good one, garland, i appreciate all your support and encouragment. happy holidays, brother.
I live in New Mexico so I really like your videos. nice! a lot of the old army issue equipment is great stuff, especially if modified to suit your needs and likes.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year....
That is awesome the amount of useful things you can carry in that bag. Thank you for making this video! This was very helpful. Question, why is this video from 2016? Were are your newer videos?
I really enjoy watching!

Great review and happy new year!
same to you james! hope all is well!
Malcolm heard you. He added a lifting handle on top. I have two of these bags, one set for the back country, and the other for city travels. Great for summer when you need less gear and don't want a sweaty back.
i just reviewd the updated haversack on my latest video. be sure to go check that review out
I love mine too. Thanks for sharing. I added the roll up water bag from Condor, it added additional carrying without bulk.
so I also live in the desert.
Thanks!
Good video. I think your haversack is the best I've seen in a long time. Not too big, not too small, it's just right. I look forward to your next video. Keep up the good work.
thansk for watching, this bag is absolutely bulletproof.
another great video. hope you guys have a Merry Christmas.
thanks so much, happy holidays, brother!
I love your videos. Bushcrafting in the desert southwest is needed info. I am 65 miles outside Las Vegas and really like your vids. Thanks.
ive never seen any desert cushcraft vids from nevada, wonder how similar it is to texas
I don't know, but keep putting out your videos. I will take what info I can get.
I am out here in Vegas. I have also lived in the area Junkyard fox is in this video. I can tell both of you it is very different. I have been doing bushcraft out here in the Vegas area. But I find myself going to the higher elevation due to the heat. I agree its nicecto some desert guys out there.

As a haversack guy myself, I enjoyed your video very much. Thanks!
im glad you enjoyed it my friend!
I have the same haversack in the same color. Great bag. Great review. Thanks for the video.
riight?! its awesome. maybe in time, ill buy the ranger green one just because thats my favorite color lol
great video on great gear by a great guy, today our high temp was 4 degrees, with wind chill, minus 20, can you send some of your weather up here to the northeast.
Happy new years
happy new years brother! yes i know im a little late lol
Nice video.
don't know if this has been asked yet, but have you considered getting "Malice clips" to better secure your ALICE canteen holder to the PALS/MOLLE?
ive never heard of malice clips, ill look into them, thanks for the heads up!
That first 1 min of this makes an amazing ad for this haversack. Immediately I had gotten interested in it after the first min
Great videos and enjoy the heck out of them. I know you are doing "how to videos" so I was wondering where you carry TP for the makeshift toilet. Will you be doing an informative short blip on useful ways to hit the john for us city slickers. Without getting "your boots dirty". LOL, but in all seriousness inquiring minds want to know.
nice pack! I like the pot too, could you please tell me who makes it?
thanks for watching! its the stainless steel bottle from self reliance outfitters
Thank you sir
Awesome review, man! I love my haversack too, almost a year old and still like new!

I always admire the beauty in your videos. I also love your personality, makes the video so much more entertaining. I am mostly here for the knife reviews but I love outdoorsy things too. Wishing you the best for the new year, take care.
thanks so much, i appreciate the kind words, im glad ye enjoy our content. happy holidays, brother.
Great review and presentation. Thank you for sharing.
your cinematography is on point, i like that you bring more of an artistic side to these kinds of videos. and the music adds to the overall feel of the video as well
thank you so much, that means a lot to me. glad you enjoy our work, thanks for watching.
I'd put the shamog draped under the top flap of the bag to keep it out of the dirt but still handy. Good system you have there.
I think I'm gonna have to buy this now.
dude, these are awesome, plus theres different colors and patterns to choose from.
Wonderful video brother. Really showed the diversity of the bag and how great the quality is, all while seeing a serene backdrop and listening to awesome music. Keep it up my friend.
thanks so much leo! my first 2017 video will be an outdoor arena review. happy holidays, brother.
the view is magnificent
Great way to end the year, James. Excellent review, as always. Merry Christmas and God bless to you and yours, my friend.
Merry Christmas, AZ.
thanks so much, we had a lot of fun filming this one. happy holidays, brother.
Junkyard Fox...all of Ur reviews r excellent & really appreciate how well U go into details. Good to see this because it really does come n handy making decisions on what I need. You should add a little anti - venom because snakes
Beautiful country. Great vid
Nice little kit there.
Beautiful locations, nice vid.
Thank you for reviewing the bag and your gear. It seems to me that some items are superfluous. There is little food, and it’s probably worth taking more water in the desert. Awesome hands on vid! I like ur mods or additions to suit ur style.
Have fun for the Holidays... stay warm!
happy holidays, brother.
+Junkyard Fox
Thx James!
But Cilla is short for Priscilla... so I'm "sis", jus to let u know. LOL!
sorry about that cilla! i havent read comments since last month, jsut read this. happy new years, sis!
Nice review James!
glad you enjoyed it, my friend!
Great review, where at in New Mexico?
thanks! the organ mountains by las cruces.
A Case Knife! You get extra points for that James. Nice set up brother
not a fan of pocketknives but if i had to, gotta go old school lol
great video good grab and go bag or for 2 day trip
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Love your vids.
im glad ye enjoy the channel, my friend. happy holidays, brother.
Very well done review, James. Great scenery, music and showing how the haversack can be used in the real world. I think the only thing people might be wondering about is an approximate price point. I think your handle idea is an excellent one!
damn i forgot to mention that. as of right now, the haversack is being sold 65 to 95 bucks depending on the color or pattern.
Hey was wondering what gloves and jacket you have. They look great, I'm looking for a good set of wool fongerless gloves
the gloves and coat i bought at target. coat is from converse, the gloves i dont remember but theyre not wool though
You've managed to bring out the romance of the desert...once again! Great job buddy. Happy holidays and look forward to seeing more videos in 2017.
thanks so much, i love the first few minutes of this video. well have plenty more desert adventures coming soon
Thanks for the review. Can you tell me which gloves you are sporting in this video? Thanks.
glad ye liked it. i bought these gloves at target, cant remember the brand but they cost like 20 bucks or less.
Junkyard Fox Thanks. Have a few near me, I'll look around.
I really like the looks of these and his other military inspired haversack, but I don't know if Id want to load something up that only hangs from one shoulder. I use a messenger bag for work and when I have my laptop, books, etc all loaded up its uncomfortable to carry very long, and it slides around.
keep in mind, you dont have to add a ton of stuff or attachments, you can keep it simple and its comfortable to carry daily.
I added the long canteen strap from the GI square quart to the old buttpack.
That's some beautiful land, J Fox. Sure do miss it.
it really is a gorgeous land.
Junkyard Fox Best land on all Earth.
Hi I've only just discovered you and I think what you do is awesome
Could you tell me how can I get hold of the music you play on your video by curevo negro please I love the music
Dude! I've been waiting for this video! I love my Hidden Woodsmen Haversack! I have mine set up almost just like yours. Great video brother! Enjoy time with the fam and we will see you next year!
im glad you enjoyed it. i love my haversack, never leave home without it. happy holidays, brother.
Maybe there might be two loops at bottom. So you can put straps through and your shemagh stay put, even you open your haversack.
i think his dayruck has straps at the bottom
Nice shot of the organ mountains
Merry Christmas James nice review on the haversack. I've been totin around a Maxpadition versapack for bout 7 years now. still need that horse brother.
ill get a horse next xmas lol
Watching this in October 2021...timely guide for a script i am working on for a high-potential production post-Apocalyptic adventure tale set in tropical Venezuela ...and we have to decide how the main characters will dress and what gear they will carry...the rat traps really got my attention..
sounds awesome
great vid James, Happy Holidays. I always felt I'm not a true woodsmen or bushcrafter if I didn't have Malcoms haversack. I love it and I don't leave home without it. thanks for the ideas. We need to get together this coming new year. God bless my friend.

And it has served me very well
Keep up the awesome videos
they are great! i havea large HW pack now. cant wait to go test it!
@junkyard fox what jacket is that?
i got this jacket at target a few years back, converse brand.
I want one of these little bags.
his work is top notch and beautiful to boot
Wow, great review. I see he's pretty much sold out which is good at this time of the year. Nice product. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Nice review my friend. Like the bushcraft western style vibe you got goin on. Nice

Thanks James!
Do you have a link to a place where we could print out that info in the desert walk booklet?
Great video my friend. Regards from Argentina!!!
hello, my friend! greetings from texas
Rat traps are a great idea. Never would have thought of that. Great video...Abe Azar
oh yeah, rattraps are worht their weight in gold: cheap, lightweight, reliable. happy holidays, abe.

Excellent review young man. Merry Christmas, God bless n happy New Years!
iappreciate all your support, greg. happy holidays!

yup that u are!!!!! keep it up man! ill keep doing everything i can on my end to help ur channel.
Great video my friend, can't wait to see what you have for 2017.
nice pack and kit
Wonderful review. I just traded some gear for an older version of one of Malcom's Haversacks on BushCraftUSA and can't wait to get it. I also am enjoying the rest of your channel! I was stationed at White Sands Missile Range back in the 80s when I was enlisted Army and was one of the Scout Masters and Explorer Leaders on post. Can't say that I miss the desert at all (I don't do well at 112˚F no matter how 'dry' the heat, and I vastly prefer the same boreal forests here in New England that Malcom designs his gear in) but it was always a good adventure and it is good to see someone enjoying it as well as you seem to.
New subscriber and I got to say, great video, great review! My question is, what ferry rod was that?
the ferro rod in my pack is a gerber bear grylls ferro rod. surprisingly a very good, affordable rod.
man, I have got to get some of his stuff! excellent review!
thanks for watching, micah!
Where did you buy your jacket? Please link it .
it was a converse jacket i bought at target like 8 years ago
