That push stick is quite decorative, sitting there next to your saw. You might want to hang it on the wall someday, to remind you of these days when you still had both of your thumbs.
Gorgeous work! You mention being new(ish) to woodworking. I'm old and started young. Broke most every safety rule with too many bad scares and some injuries. Still have 10 fingers. I know several woodworkers who don't. Long way to say, IT HAPPENS SO FAST it's impossible to imagine. Please, please give a little more thought to safety. Luck is something that sometimes turns. And yes, I now do everything I can to stay safe in the shop. Again, big praise for your craft.
Having wood with really good grain can be amazing too. Great job. Pro look. Easy to sell at the right price. Love your work. Chess boards would be just down your Ally...
Good job. Suggestion - for the first glue-up, don't glue the sticks all along the same edge (perpendicular to the first stick). Instead, glue each piece at an offset that matches the chevron angle. Then when you cut the first chevron angle, you'll have much less waste.
You made me feel stupid. Ive done loads of cutting boards but somehow havent thought about making a wavy board. I truly thank you for a kick in the rear. Much apprecited
Beautiful piece and a true craftsman. I've made a few similar boards and recently tried to offset the pieces in the first glue-up so they follow the angle of the subsequent cut. It definitely takes more clamps, but when making angled cuts, it significantly reduces waste (those big triangle cut-off pieces). Hope that helps
Great video, but I feel I should say for any beginners that your table saw safety isn't up to scratch. You often leave your blade too high, coupled with no riving knife means you are far more likely to get kickback. If you do, you are stood right behind your piece. I've seen (on Stumpy Nubs channel) kickback spear a 2x4 straight through a solid door. OUCH!
Great work! You should make yourself a zero clearance insert with a splitter. Most people lose their fingers from kickback forcing their hand into the blade rather than just plain not paying attention to blade position.
@@robreynolds721 - He’s saying that most people who lose fingers lose them because of kickback….not simply because they don’t pay attention to the blade. Kickback is a bitch…fingers gone in a tenth of a second. This board is nice and he certainly has talent but a splitter and a push stick can mean the difference between a scare and forever changing your life.
Not using a riving knife is insanity to me.. I’ll never understand it. It doesn’t interfere at all.. and can save your fingers, which we only have ten of 🫣

It might be to tell RUclips to stop suggesting similar videos. There is a "not interested" option from the main page, but not on the video once you've clicked. Doesn't necessarily mean that those people think this is poor craftsmanship.
Maybe they didn't like the fact that he didn't use a push stick (especially on cuts way too thin), setting a terrible example for other woodworkers trying to learn a new craft. Maybe they came here to learn how to make this rather than just watch someone make it. He left out some critical directions for how to make this. I.e. degree he cut the original slab on the miter saw, what wood glue he used or that he didn't extensively soak it in mineral oil before using butcher block conditioner (like what's recommended in overwhelming majority of other cutting block vids) etc... It is a gorgeous piece none the less. I will also add his method is easier than some other vids achieving the same result.
Hey! First of all, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love this!! I was just wondering if you usually pop the grain as you sand off-camera. Cause I was watching a bunch of other people make cutting boards and they said it helps maintain the integrity of the cutting boards as they come into contact with water during their lifetime. If you do that's awesome! If not, it might be something to consider for future products. Once again LOVE the work!
