I'm a tad confused by the Adventure world's fascination with the Triumph Scrambler 400X. To me it's clearly a styling exercise, with little pretence at being a serious off road or touring bike - a couple of years back, before Triumph's rejigging of their modern classic range it would have been called a Street Scrambler and everyone would have realised it's for riding to the Bike Shed, not John O'Groats. That's not to say you couldn't do it and have huge amounts of fun, but unlike the Himalayan with its range of luggage, you'll be bungie-ing a roll bag on the Trumpet. And speaking as a Triumph owner, you'd better start saving for that 10,000 mile service, Triumph wanted £650 to service the 900.
Agree, triumph service is not cheap but the new himalayan looks to have bucket and shim tappets and twin overhead cams. My screw and locknut RE is not cheap to get serviced and is a lot more frequent, I suspect the new himalayan won't be cheap to service either, cams out to swap shims? Same as your triumph. The big difference is I'm ok with screw and locknut but not see keen to tackle bucket and shims. I think I fall into the camp that is happier with more frequent service that can be easily done by me.
@@walt7518 the scary thing is the 10,000 mile service on the 900 doesn't involve an tappets, it's basically a fluids change and a plug it in to read the fault codes.
@@AlexOnABoat Wow, that's definitely something I'll check with triumph before I consider the 400, my mistake. I service my trophy 1200 myself so only visit triumph for parts these days, so am out of that loop.
How much off road riding, travelling from A to B, can you do in England? None. But if you are interested watch RevZilla new video where they take both Triumph 400's up the highest Road in the World.😊
@@splodge57 exactly, that's what most of us in UK have to put up with IRL. Let's keep posters on the walls for the dreams that others can do daily. Sports Touring bike for me it is I think.
Great video, the Himalayan all day long for me over the triumph, even if it’s priced at £7K,still great value and really quite a good looking bike. Looking forward to seeing these on the roads.
Same here, great usable value in my eyes and RE have given this himalayan still in a bit of an old fashion rugged looks with modern gubins so also hit the right note on that front for me. I like the looks of the triumph (1200 XC owner, who'd have thought) but when I have had enough of the weight, the RE might well be the next.
@@alangordon3283Not at all. We will all hopefully grow older but there is no reason to do so with a shaved head, beer belly and a love for overpriced motorcycles. Other better options are available.
@@davidmatthews3093What better options? I'm not a GS lover I own an Africa Twin but there is a really pretty much every reviewer loves them as the best all rounder. Everyone said I was mad buying an AT in my 20s but honestly I ride like more of a yob on that than I ever did on my R1 lol... The R1 can't jump off pavements and ride through fields 😂
Most bikers period are middle aged as few younger people are attracted to biking because of cost and the effort to pass and get a full licence. The people that look at a bike at a show like this doesn’t represent the buying public. You could have said the same for every adv bike at EICMA. I smell a brand/bike snob.
Good video. I was planning on going to the show tomorrow, but I think it’s just got too expensive at £31 plus parking, and I think you’ve shown me what I wanted to see.
It's a good point about us knowing how to maintain our own bikes. I am so happy that I bought a simple SR400. After owning a BMW I will not come back to at bike that has a system diagnosis as the first part of the service. As always, thanks for the video!
10 mins 17 Nathan myself and my mate, A really nice bike Nathan I've got a feeling your either a Triumph man or Royal Enfield or both, had 4 Triumphs then bought my 411 after riding one in 2019 2 mths ago I love it easy to work on. I was at Triumph before the release in March the 400 was under wraps being worked on then covered at a distance then covered you could walk by.
Hello Nathan, I wish Yamaha bring TW200 or Suzuki Van Van and of course Honda could bring CT125. Not exactly adventure bikes to mainstream, but would be nice to see them.
Yes a shame no VanVan or CT, or TW. I think those bikes would all do well now. Shame we seemed to have lost a lot of the good stuff just before the move to downsizing took off
I agree, a simple and reliable bike as van van would be great... I own one and it is super fun to ride.. But ...when they came out, they were overpriced, so all not that easy
I've got a VanVan in the stable myself, and I couldn't disagree more that it's over priced. The problem is people who only consider CC-to-Price. If power is all you value, well you'll never see the value in a VanVan and it's ilk and your attitude is likely why those bikes haven't been re-vamped for European emissions standards, whilst still selling like hot cakes in other regions.
I’m loving your take on the small capacity segment. Lots of mouthwatering goodies. The number of choices esp with the Chinese bikes has a brilliant effect for us £3k buyers. Nearly new 411’s are fantastic value now if you sit behind the curve and enjoy what everyone did 4 years ago.
Good video, as always Nathan. What a coincidence that I had just watched Glyn Owen`s video about the show and you literally walked up behind him, making the video at 9:58, touching the front wheel of the new Himalayan.
Thanks for the walk around, I'm in Northern Ireland and go over most years, but left it a bit late booking and the plane ticket prices just got out of reach. I'll be back next year if God spares me.
Nice nod to the owner of Tec Bike Parts whilst you were looking at the 452. He was in your shot wearing the Triumph tee shirt and ball cap. i think his name is George Milburn
I'll be there Sunday....👍🏻 I will definitely be checking out the earplugs you recommended... I have never bothered in the past but I have noticed my hearing is fading and have had tinnitus for years. Cheers for the recommendation
More affordable is not where the industry is anymore I'm afraid People putting deposits on bikes long before they can have one has put pay to any common sense Big bikes are not longer affordable and small bikes are now being pushed hard So they will be the next unaffordable bike The industry will soon have nowhere to go Madness
Best thing you can do with regards to finding out about the new Himalayan is to watch some of the episodes on You Tube from a lady who uses the name Itchy Boots. She has been riding the new Himalayan around India for the last few months. That should give you some insight into the bike. My bike was stolen last year and I couldn't afford to replace it but given the choice, I quite like the look of the CF Moto MT800 Touring. That'd be just right for me and the Mrs on the hills we have around here in Huddersfield...........
@@BikingChapI think that’s a naïve comment. Noraly started out her motorcycle travelling on a RE due to circumstances, she was already in India and the Himalayan was the obvious choice. She stuck with RE for her second travel bike but after experiencing the CRF in South Africa she understood which bike was better for her needs hence the 300 Rally. I’ve no doubt that RE feel they owe her a debt of gratitude for the amount of publicity she gave them but she was never sponsored by them, she just used their products when they suited her. I’m sure that she was pleased when she was offered the chance to test the new Himalayan in the Himalayas especially as she has shown her love of more powerful bikes when she gets the opportunity to ride them but there’s nothing historically to suggest that she would speak anything other than her true thoughts. She has always been straight when talking about the bikes she’s ridden and has been quick to point out their weaknesses as well as their strengths. In addition to that she has a wealth of experience that would put a lot of professional testers to shame. If you want to look at how biased professional journalists can be in their haste to suck up to the gravy train look no farther than basically any Bennett’s Social test on a new release or in particular MCN’s review of the Voge 300 Rally. That’s where you will find your bias and weak reviews, Itchy Boots will tell it as it is. Your post sounded so bitter I suspect that you, an alpha male are envious of a young woman’s experience and the opportunities that they have brought to her. Bright Green.
@@davidmatthews3093wow that's a bit of a jump to suggest I'm an 'alpha male jealous of a young woman's experience'. I've got huge respect for Noraly and what she's achieved not only on a bike but in the production values of her channel but only the most thirsty of guys would overlook / discount the possibility that there was a deal struck with Noraly and Enfield especially given it's a pre-production bike. These guy won't just give you a bike and expect you to say anything you like, life simply doesn't work that way. She of course could freely comment on the original Enfield because she bought them herself. I'm not aware if Honda gave her any support with the CRF or if she bought that too with her own money. Her's is a brilliant channel but it's business when you are as successful as she has become and good luck to her.
@@jerzywoking1699 oh dear. I'm simply saying that it's worth bearing in mind. The big publications and RUclips channels have a symbiotic relationship with the manufacturers. Say nice things and you get access to new bikes. You give us new bikes and we'll say nice things. It's not personal and it's been known about for decades including those who Honda cut off for slating a new bike and most famously how Vauxhall cut off TopGear for slating the Vectra (or whichever one it was)
Thanks for lots of valuable insight, it seems a rare thing these days. I'll watch this video a few times and catch something new each time. I don't have access to off-road now but, my situation may change. The bike that appeals to me is the Voge 300 Rally. It's not for everybody but, for an old bike guy that doesn't mind keeping up with all of the little things and wants something light and good value, it seems a good choice. There seems to be a lot of bikes, some are made to attract buyers and some are well thought out better bikes. At least that's the way I see it.
I'd rather have the RE450 than the Triumph 400. I like the RE's high front mudguard. The white one looks better. 'Learn to service yourbike' looks good.
I’ve ridden a Voge 525 in France. I’d booked my 500X into the bike shop where I had my 300Rally on order for a new rear tyre but when I got there the tyre hadn’t arrived. I was sent out on the 525 to kill some time. It was very impressive. It was very similar to the 500X to ride but physically felt a bit bigger. I have got a photo of them side by side which shows that. The value for money is incredible considering the kit that comes with it. It will make a great first adventure touring bike for a lot of people. The one I rode was brand new so I’m not going to make any comment about the performance but I did notice something significant on my 50 mile ride home, the 500X is nicer to ride. Everything seems well made and beautifully finished on the Voge, just as it does on the Honda but when it comes to a subjective assessment everything feels just a bit more solid, a bit better produced in the 500X. If I was looking for a new bike in that class I would be very tempted by the 525 because it ticks all the boxes however if offered nothing that made me feel that I needed to trade in my 20,000km 2021 500X for one, it’s a bike that is ideal for my needs and it’s staying put. I did however choose the Voge over the Honda when it came to the 300. Part of that was price and equipment but when I first rode it I was seriously impressed. I’ve only ridden a few hundred km on it so far but so far it’s exceeding expectations, I’m really looking forward to getting it fully run in so I can discover what it is capable of. Voge seem to be selling well thought out, well made bikes at a good price. They will be a serious consideration for many people. I’m sure that the 525 will sell well once it arrives in the U.K. because it’s looks and spec are spot on.
As regards Suzuki, there DRZ400, would still make a great trail bike today. Himalayan prices Kaza brown £5749 Kamer white £6259 Handl black £6049 Good price point.
Even though i don't ride offroad, i agree with your take on the Scrambler X vs Himalayan. I've got a deposit down on the Triumph, pending a test ride in Jan, like you i was pleased to see it was physically bigger as I'm 6'2". Realistically the Scrambler is a good looking road bike, nothing wrong with that but the Enfield really feels like a genuine off road capable, travel bike, though clearly many will not set foot off tarmac. For pure road use I'm not convinced by the 21" front wheel however, I've just had the bonkers Transalp on test and that was the same, but for those looking for a little light off road action the Himalayan might just be the perfect bike. XT500 for the 21st century? I wouldn't bet against it.
Good effort Nathan, really enjoyed the guided tour. Thanks! Can't believe you haven't had a Himalayan prototype pushed in your direction. You & Noraly have to be their two marketing cornerstones. I seem to remember KTM slipped up with Boorman & McGregor a while back, BMW walked away with the lollypop's - ooops! PS: I'm a novice, age 66, with an as new s/h 310GS Rally Raid level 2. Paid peanuts for it. I'm working hard at getting my skills up for a ride around Europe, then to the Afghan border & back. I really like the baby Beemer....should I stick or swap to a Himalayan?
Cheers Mr riddell. Sounds like an epic trip! I'd personally stick with the 310. Proven reliability and I think you'll find it's much lighter to maneuver. That rally raid kit doesn't half transform it
This is a message for the 64-year-old, Alan, I am 63 years old, and I bought a Kawasaki Z 400 that was salvaged. I put on some off-road tires, and went gold panning out here in California. The bike is 375 pounds wet. And with minimal gear, and choosing the right back roads that are only 55 miles an hour and empty, I am having a blast, taking it slow and enjoying the ride. Not to mention that I do not have anymore range anxiety being that I get up to 65 miles to the gallon. Oh yes, the bike is very easy to pick up when you drop it.😂
Thanks for the video. One thing. Unless Triumph have recently changed their mind, the 400s will be built in the Triumph factories in Thailand and Brazil.
My daughter and myself was there today and we were hoping the CFmoto 450mt was there too. Was seriously impressed with the value for money of their range. It was first time I'd seen them in the flesh and the bikes were great quality. I wasn't that blown away with the new Himalayan. It was a good bike and is very capable. The triumph 400s where really nice and again quite impressive for the money. I was the same as you about the NX500 and thought why bother and that's from a CB500X owner.
Myself also gutted they did not bring the 450 MT over from Milan!! That's what I went to look at-but they said on the stand with the dealers from January, price-reckon around £6K an a 4 year warranty!!
I have to say the Benelli TRK702X looks a really nice package for the price, the green looks lovely. Also like that RE Himalayan Rally on the podium, very nice.
Absolutely brilliant video Nathan just been with dad today very interesting an you seemed to echo our thoughts, I'm not into electric bikes but loved the look of that Him-E. That sorta style would look good for a update to a simple 411 not that we will see that. I could appreciate the engineering on the 450 Himalayan but it's not my cup of tea with the level of tech on it shim under bucket, fly by wire, tft etc I'm sure itl appeal to alot though, noticed sitting on it, it was using alot of the stroke on the suspension travel as well. For me I'm currently debating a 411 Himalayan again or the new Bullet 350 revisiting the 411 today reminded me what I missed about it. An love the seating on the Bullet 350. Lots to think about both bikes were spot on with this nerve where alot just set it off. Was interesting having natter with the guys from RE about some of the issues and parts costs when I've been checking models out was looking at the UCE 500 an the exhaust on the trials is 1 grand for a gen replacment ouch! Great video Nathan n a DRZ now that'd be interesting it does feel like the Japanese companies have been caught napping a bit inc Yamaha with the sub 500 adv class.
Thanks Nathan - just checking you know CF Moto I believe is piggy backing the KTM dealer network. Saw this in a press release out from Premier in Oxford to now be KTM / Triumph / CF Moto . Roll on the 450MT price and availability date!
I've got a feeling that bike was bolted down like most of the other bikes at the show 🙂, can't imagine FE having a freestanding bike that high up , if someone did push it over it could kill someone.
Pre booked, parking was £10.50 and entry £26-It pays to be prepared- 7 hours walking round in bike kit doesn't appeal. Show was better than the last 2 years.
Great footage Nathan. Loving the looks of both new smaller Triumphs & the RE but that 21" on the front for everyday users? It'll put lots off, it won't be on my list when I look for my first 'big' bike next year unless they've penned a road biased model later on 19" which I can't see.
Excellent overview Nathan, l wouldn’t pay close on 50 quid for a walk around tbh. Lots to be excited about for sure. Given how much the old Himmy has been upgraded over the last few years I perversely might now be interested in getting one of those despite the new one being the bike l complained the old one wasn’t lol 😂
RE are planning on a new Scram 440, probably coming mid next year which is a further improvement to the Scram 411 (essentially the same engine with a big bore kit), and the cheaper alternative to the new Himalayan 452, and will be a more direct competitor to the Trumph Scrambler 400X (will be cheaper than the current Scram 411 suppposedly). I'm waiting for this personally, as it is really a further improvement to the OG Himalayan design philosophy, while still hopefully improving on the 411s drawbacks. There is no info on what the bike itself will be like though, if it will be the same chassis as the OG Himalayan/Scram or they are designing something new from the ground up with that engine.
Hallo Nathan .. What do you think about the new wave of mid range adventure scooters ? Not for hardcore off-road but as a bad roads/gravel capable tourers.
Yeah they're pretty good I would think. That 350 ADV Honda seems popular and good value. Haven't ridden too many over the years, only the X ADV which I thought was a big too big and cumbersome, and tall!
I really need a voge 300 rally for Andalusia.... just wish it had a fuel gauge. And want to see for a bit longer how it holds out in the reliability stakes. Just unsure of how my 5ft 10" 30 inch inseam would cope .... mind you the 120kg will help to depress the suspension a bit I hope 😅
I’m 5’11” and it took me a little while to get used to the height of my new Voge 300 Rally. There’s so little suspension sag with the bike upright I’m on tiptoes. It’s a fantastic little bike though. I had to think twice before getting a Chinese bike but seeing it in the flesh gave me a lot of confidence and test riding it did the rest. My third bike is a DR125 which is over 20 years old, to be honest I can’t see the Voge not being able to last to at least the same age, it’s well thought out and seems well built.
Great video Nathan, I wonder if the new Triumph's main rivals are more likely to be the Scram and the Hunter as the Himalayan is a made for the job travel bike? Spot on comment on the GS stand!
@@blankpaper2471I totally concur. My 21 plate honda nc750 build was utter shite. I sold it within three months the corrosion was awful and the swing arm thin cheap and u durable
£49.50 to get in is a complete rip-off. Add to that your travel costs and the pain of getting there, is it any wonder so many of us are no longer going! Also some major manufacturers are not even there! Anyway, great video Nathan. My run about scrambler is the new Mash X Ride Trail 650 with the 21 inch front wheel. Great looking bike and great value at £5600 and capable of proper off roading, albeit you need to be long legged, seat height is 890!
I was there also on Saturday, shame I did not see yourself. Went specifically to look at the CF Moto 450 MT an they didnt bring it over from Milan-Gutted!! But the guy on the stand said they will be with the dealers from Jan, price could be £6K an our dealer is SP Motorcycles in Exeter!! So could be ready to go on the Iceland trip with yourself possibly
Thanks Nathan, I went on Sunday but still watched this.......I’m really tempted by the Himalayan as I have a great local dealer, problem is weather it’s a better bet than my lovelyT7? Any thoughts any one? The older I get the less bullshit required, hence I enjoy your posts, good work. Bike parking is free by the way......
The Yamaha is probably better built and has way longer valve check intervals, I think the Himalayan valves need to be checked every 6000 miles ☹️ bit of a deal breaker maybe for some
@@jimmyjam8795 recently found an interview with the lead engine engineer. He said they are presently looking at a check at 10000 km & 20000 km, after that it will be every 20000 km. Then again they are probably causious now in the beginning, since it's a brand new engine. Apparently, they may choose to have market specific service plans. He mentioned first oilchange at 500 km, then every 10000 km, but that was for the Indian market, & might change depending on which market it was on.
so much to say on this, sorry ive not got back to you Nathan, Its been a busy week, pity the 450MT wasnt there, and totally agree on your lazy comment, not just about Honda either. Interesting so many companies were missing. Andre seemed to fit the MT ok but friends in India saying its very small so was hoping to get more insight. talk to you soon anyway, cheers, hope you had a good show/ re CF Moto, they now have a fairly smalll so far share presence on the Pierer Mobility board, who are sole owners of KTM, Husky, Gas Gas, MV etc. more importantly, Bajaj have a much bigger share, and together, Baja group and CF Moto now have controlling shares on the Pierer Mobility Board, Also, re dealerships, as of 2024 CF Moto bikes will be sitting alongside the KTM's in KTM showrooms, so the network of dealers is set to rise a lot, theres a few videos on the channel, i think the new 500 four and 675 triple engines they have built look interesting too
The Triumph will spend most, if not all of its time, on the King's Road rather than off-road parked outside artisan coffee shops while its owner spend their time admiring themselves in a mirror 😉
Thanks for the video Nathan! Looked quieter on Saturday than it did yesterday. This year there really does seem to be a significant offering from Chinese manufacturers like CF Moto and Benelli. Sitting on them they do look capable too. I read the other day that most people do less than 4k a year on their bikes. Is a 15-20k bike worth the extra? 🤔
Hey Nathan, have you looked at / ridden the CRF300L Rally before? I’m coming from a 2019 Himalayan and thinking the Honda might be my next ‘does just about everything’ bike. With the weight of the new Himmy the lightness and reliability of the Honda seems like a great offer in the lightweight / manageable highway + off road adventure category
At last some sense talked about the price of the Himalayan , Would have bought the TRK but they took a ridiculously long time bringing it to market so i bought the X-Cape which I love . Is it me or is that show dying when manufacturers cant be arsed to turn up ? Nice roundup ! 👍🏻
I've just got a Hornet 750. Love it. But, looking at the NX500 in your vlog really made me pause. It looks great. I don't care about the rebranding at all. I'd lose a sackful of HP but, cheaper everything else. For a daily ride, it seems pretty perfect to me. Ta for the vid. Safe riding
After riding my 1200 GS a few times off road I've come to the same conclusion, it's just too bloody heavy for me at 65 years old, I've just ordered a Voge 300 Rally as you and a lot of others seem to rate the bike as reasonable for road use and great for a bit of off roading.
The Rieju Aventura 500 is a very nice looking bike and looks like it'll have amazing range with the extra tank under the seat. Will you be getting one for the fleet? Or getting one on loan? Would love to hear your opinion on it.
Nice review of this event. I wonder if all these bike manufacturers take into account the increasingly high weight of their potential customers? As you correctly observe, lightness is the key to off-road adventure motorcycling. Light tent, light cook-ware, everything as light as possible. That should include the rider; some proper units in your footage of the show! I wonder if Showa has an obesity specialist? Just saying.
@nathanthepostman thanks for quick response . I'm holding off till I know as I was gonna buy the 390 adventure but want slightly more trail ability . Its currently too soft and I'm not desperate to throw 2500 on suspension mods on a new bike . Cheers Ian
I live on Crete and they have them here . I've currently got a CFMOTO 625 touring quad and the build quality is as good as Polaris Can Am so I'm comfortable with newer manufacturers . Thankyou
Yea Bajaj-Triumph has really set the cat among the pigeons...and its definitely one of the big reasons we havent seen the pricing on the Himmy yet! No one ever thought the Triumph could have come in at that price and that stunned everyone! But yea this Himmy looks the business!

@@jerzywoking1699 lol you think "Triumph" is the real deal? Its just a brand thats been revived...has nothing to do really with the past and they are primarily already manufacturing in Asia!
Of course they are real Triumphs. No one cares where they are built unless there are human rights issues. The reliability of Triumphs went through the roof when they opened the Thailand factory. Which is where the new 400s are being built.
Thing is with royal enfield the price they ask isn't final price .by time you add on the extra OTR charge you have to take this into account.if the Himalayan is to much to begin with then most people will cross it of the list and get another bike .if it come in to near £7 k their are a lot of bikes already proven for that price in my opinion
Rip off Brittain with those entry charges for sure!! The chinese are disrupting the bike industry in a big way. Five years time they will be everywhere. They will be making the traditional manufacturers think about their prices and possible collaborations. Brilliant walk round and commentry Nathan. Thanks.
@@volt8684 yep, I don't go now. I can wait until the bike pop up in the local dealer. It makes no sense to cough up £100 on a train fare or drive 350+ miles just to be the first to bounce on some bikes, especially when even the main manufacturers no longer show all their models.
So far no one has mentioned the Fantic 500's up against the Triumph 400's ...shame the smaller brands don't seem to be able to get a foothold. I guess it show's price sensitivity in that cc range, or maybe supply availability. Interesting in my FB feed Fantic are offering £800 discount & 4 year warranty on 2023 purchases, I guess either trying to clear stock ahead of upgraded models, or realising that Triumph are about to steal their thunder with a cheap bike?
@@nathanthepostman it's a shame but I agree, I test rode a scrambler a few weeks back, the engine obviously pokey but not nearly as refined as my 250rally. As i think about i think they've a version of the Rally with long travel, engine bars, rack & soft luggage, that's now high £6k's I think... you'd reckon that150kg 40hp would have grabbed people's attention, let's not pretend it could perform like a himalayan 'off road' but it will be interesting to see where the Enfield pricing sits as it might get trumped by that as well...
PIERER Mobility group who own's KTM and a lot of other brands these days also own a large share of CFMoto. So yes, they're both owned by the same company now hence the joint manufacturing. CFMoto will also be serviced at the KTM dealer network, so they have everything going for them now.
Pity the CFM MT 450 was missing. I asked about it on the stand and was told by the rep that they had been lots of interest from people wanting to see it. I think CFM missed a trick by omitting it from the stand. I do like the 800 though, and the price. Just need the network to grow a bit. There’s a big hole in the north-west where dealers are needed.
I was impressed with the quality of the bikes on the CF Moto stand. Their 450 sports bike seemed well designed and made all for £5.5K. The rep did tell me they were going to get a dealer onboard in the Potteries (Stoke) and aim to grow the dealer network.
Suzuki have released the new V-Strom 250sx in the Southern hemisphere. Single cylinder, oil cooled, 21/19" for an amazingly cheap price ($NZ 7,000). Built in India at Suzuki's factory (I think). Suspension is a bit budget but still a hoot to ride on road and on the gravel backroads around NZ. For the price you can afford upgrades. Certainly easier to handle 'off-road' than its big brother DL1000 that I use for longer adventures. Keep hoping to see it released in UK/Europe to see what Nathan thinks of it...over to you Suzuk iGB...
Was there yesterday, can't help but think the fantic 500 rally looks a better deal than the triumph with better build quality & price discounted by £800, Xsr900 GP & voge 300 rally were high points , Gs8r was bit disappointing with the worst looking handlebar setup I've seen for a while. Himalayan looks good but I can't look at it without thinking the stole the fuel tank of a MK2 Vstrom 650 😄
I noticed the Caballero 500 rally too. Gorgeous looking bike and a lot of fun if reviews are anything to go by. The plastics were stuck out a bit too far making it difficult to stand on the pegs and the fuel tank was a bit small, but other than that just like a very high end Triumph scrambler as you say.
I kind of think the new Triumph 400's will sell because of the Triumph brand, if it was the exact same bike with voge , herald or BSA on the tank I don't think it would be getting any attention. They look ok but nothing special & seem quite cheap build quality when you get up close As you say Fantic looks quite Premium in comparison.
I guess it depends what you're going to do with it. From looking the two I think the triumph is going to be a bit more fun on the road and will be fine on light trail. I think it'll also feel quite a bit lighter than the Himalayan. If you plan on travelling any distance then I think the Himalayan will be the natural choice. The seat looks comfier, bigger fuel tank, optional panniers, rear rack, centre stand and a bigger front wheel for trails. But which people will enjoy riding most we'll have to wait and see.
Like to see a biker thats not caught up in bike snobbery. Drz would be a much better alternative to crf 300. Car parking there is shocking price every one should put that in the comments.
Im 67 had all sorts..jus bought a Honda 125 Grom...lifts onto a towbar carrier..I drive way out to quiet roads...heaven
Thanks Nathan , it was all the bikes id wanted to see, RE Himalayan, take my money 😀
It's between 5.5 to 6K
€5700 for UK.
Thanks for the walk around Nathan, great video and very informative, I don’t need to go now so you’ve saved me £100 by doing this 😊
with you 100% on the Himilayan, i don't see it as a competitor to the Triumph- -totally different buyer
Excellent walk around Nathan. Nice to see the smaller bikes. Not everyone wants a GS sized bike.
Enjoyed that, nice round-up👍😊
Spot on Nathan, BMW R1300 GS surrounded by middle aged men …… priceless comment 👍
One day it will be you.
It really was an odd group, talk about clones.
Still a shame there’s no ct125 on the Honda stand…..
Thanks for the walk around, great info. As you say the cost of the bike show is a bit salty.
Thanks for the walk around, I'm in Northern Ireland and go over most years, but left it a bit late booking and the plane ticket prices just got out of reach. I'll be back next year if God spares me.
Thanks Nathan , great video really like your thoughts on the bikes , I think the Himalayan would get my money !
THANKS NATHAN Talking a lot of sense👍Need to make motorcycling easier, more affordable for younger people! Like it was for me back pre 1980s
More affordable is not where the industry is anymore I'm afraid
People putting deposits on bikes long before they can have one has put pay to any common sense
Big bikes are not longer affordable and small bikes are now being pushed hard
So they will be the next unaffordable bike
The industry will soon have nowhere to go
Madness
Great video. Love hearing your take on things. Like walking around with you.
It's interesting to watch but it is a glorified promo series she's doing for Enfield so don't expect her to say it's rubbish etc.
@@BikingChap But what if it is as good as she says? Why do people think that just because someone is sponsored, they will lie about the bike?
The black and gold Himalayan is the one I'm going to get but that's because I'm a tart, always have been 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🏍
Hmm CFMOTO a brand to watch I think and the new 450MT well at the right price it could be a game changer too
Thanks for the look round
Cheers Marc
I’m sure that the 525 will sell well once it arrives in the U.K. because it’s looks and spec are spot on.
thanks for the vid!
i was looking for such, since i knew the exhibition was taking place. shame about missing companies...
As regards Suzuki, there DRZ400, would still make a great trail bike today.
Himalayan prices
Kaza brown £5749
Kamer white £6259
Handl black £6049
Good price point.
The 411 Himalayan is miles better than the XT500. You would know that if you ever owned both.
@@jerzywoking1699 [sigh] I didn't say the XT500 was 'better'.
Is this the 1980's Yamaha XT500? 😂😅😂
That rally raid kit doesn't half transform it
Sorted! I was genuinely thinking of a swap, despite the massive advantage of the light weight 310. Mucho Gratias.@@nathanthepostman
Cheers bud looking forward to you getting your hands on the new Himalayan 👍🏻
One thing. Unless Triumph have recently changed their mind, the 400s will be built in the Triumph factories in Thailand and Brazil.
and India.
Yes but the Indian bikes are not coming to Europe.
Triumph 400 .... When a premium marketing brand makes an uncharacteristically affordable model: caveat emptor, you're gonna pay one way or the other.
Seems the big GS is popular with the follicly challenged

I can already see some less off road practicalities with the 452. I'm not hankering for one. I do wonder what the service interval will be though.
that parking charge is astronomical
You pay more for 5 hours in Brighton to be fair.

Loving the looks of both new smaller Triumphs & the RE but that 21" on the front for everyday users? It'll put lots off, it won't be on my list when I look for my first 'big' bike next year unless they've penned a road biased model later on 19" which I can't see.
They will put this engine in lots of different bikes.....

@davidmatthews3093 Thanks for the info David ... I too used to have a DR125 👍 Back in the early 90's .
Great video Nathan, I wonder if the new Triumph's main rivals are more likely to be the Scram and the Hunter as the Himalayan is a made for the job travel bike? Spot on comment on the GS stand!
It remains to be seen what the practical realities are when owning a Triumph 400 ... Then & only then will we know who its rivals are.

so much to say on this, sorry ive not got back to you Nathan, Its been a busy week, pity the 450MT wasnt there, and totally agree on your lazy comment, not just about Honda either. Great vlog there Nathan 👍
I find it hilarious people would fund Chinese oligarchs and the Chinese government with their cheaply made sweatshop bikes 🤢🤮
Admission and parking costs are ridiculous. Tempted to go to EICMA in future.
Yes I'm the same to be honest especially as some of the other events at NEC don't have any parking charges. Plus all the bikes at eicma

I love my 800XC Triumph, but I'm in the same boat re heavy bikes. Air-cooled Himalayan as a cheap runabout is the likely one.
Surely the RE can't be priced higher than TRK702? If they can bring it in at £6k would be a superb buy...
The Rieju Aventura 500 is a very nice looking bike and looks like it'll have amazing range with the extra tank under the seat. Will you be getting one for the fleet? Or getting one on loan? Would love to hear your opinion on it.
Yes, very keen to try that one. Hopefully will have one to test soon
And it's essentially a modified honda cb500x.
I've been told it's cheaper to park in the station car park.
Great vid Nathan ,are there any updates on the Honda Crf 300l for 2024 ?
I didn't spot any and haven't heard of any
@nathanthepostman thanks for quick response . I'm holding off till I know as I was gonna buy the 390 adventure but want slightly more trail ability . Its currently too soft and I'm not desperate to throw 2500 on suspension mods on a new bike . Cheers Ian
Voge 300 Rally?@@ianandrews4518
I live on Crete and they have them here . I've currently got a CFMOTO 625 touring quad and the build quality is as good as Polaris Can Am so I'm comfortable with newer manufacturers . Thankyou
Yea Bajaj-Triumph has really set the cat among the pigeons...and its definitely one of the big reasons we havent seen the pricing on the Himmy yet! No one ever thought the Triumph could have come in at that price and that stunned everyone! But yea this Himmy looks the business!
Btw even the BMW 310 is built in India by TVS the same guys who have bought out Norton!
But is it a "real" Triumph?
@@jerzywoking1699their entire range pretty much is built in Thailand so I don't think any of them are 'real' triumphs if we're thinking they must be British made
@@jerzywoking1699 lol you think "Triumph" is the real deal?
Thanks.
Your so called english brands are all building in India, so what’s different?
Sadly true. If we don't value what the Japanese offer, everything will be chinese owned and made :(
Hope it’s better than last year it was dreadful
@@volt8684 yep, I don't go now. I can wait until the bike pop up in the local dealer. It makes no sense to cough up £100 on a train fare or drive 350+ miles just to be the first to bounce on some bikes, especially when even the main manufacturers no longer show all their models.
The Chinese are causing far less disruption than RE are!
You didn't fancy climbing the Bear Grills climbing frame before you went in.🤣
Haha. I'd been ripped off enough already that day!
Yeah I sort of overlooked the fantic. Good bike but I think it's going to struggle against the triumph.
Personally prefer the looks of and colours of the 900GS over the 1300GS.
19"/17" wheels - my mistake
It looks still the show 😮
Great job at the show mate
Cheers dan
nathan if you prebook before the show opens adult ticket is 23 and parking is 10.95. worth remembering if you go back next year.
Cheers Shaun. Yes they don't half punish the impulsive!
Looks like I'm too old and have too much hair to buy a GS.
Loving the Benelli 700 and CF moto offerings.
Was there yesterday, can't help but think the fantic 500 rally looks a better deal than the triumph with better build quality & price discounted by £800,
Xsr900 GP & voge 300 rally were high points , Gs8r was bit disappointing with the worst looking handlebar setup I've seen for a while.
They look ok but nothing special & seem quite cheap build quality when you get up close
As you say Fantic looks quite Premium in comparison.
A small capacity Suzuki dual sport/scrambler.......now there's a thought! Let's hope so.
What would you suggest to person between himalayan 452 and scrambler 400x?
12:48 ... When you're trying to do a video about the new Royal Enfield but Thurman Merman keeps getting in the shot ....
