- Welcome to a new series called Bike World Off-road, for now.
You won't see us testing the cruise control, we won't tell you how comfortable the seats are but we will be doing our best to get as dirty and wet as possible. On this first episode we find out if the Royal Enfield Himalayan and KTM 390 Adventure are fit for adventure.
#adventure #ktmadventure #RoyalEnfieldHimalayan
Dude everybody saying the Himalayan looks horrible and I'm like the opposite. It's kind of the only adventure bike I like the looks of.
My feelings as well....love the look
Looks are subjective.
It looks rugged and fit for the job. Its sad when people prefer looks over functionality.
Same here, I absolutely love the looks of the Himalayan. For me the only good looking adventure bike in that class.
Bro i own one... trust me himalayan is an eye catcher. It's completely different then conventional bike hence people will turn around to check this
I love my Himalayan to bits. She's sturdy, torquey, solid, and comfortable. Looks good with a set of Tusk panniers, too.
Mark Lowry Yes, a nice machine. I don’t agree that this bike is ugly. Being properly fit for purpose carries its own style and beauty. Les
and the Xpulse just does everything better, including the quality.
@@thinkride3873 i don't think so
Did you ride both the bikes?
@@Torquebeast650 Yes, and I have ridden them back to back a lot of times. Close friends own both. Himalayan has a more commanding riding position, but the stock windshield sends gusts of wind directly to my helmet visor. Xpulse is betted in that regard. Also, Himalayan does have oodles of low end torque, but the poor handling and scraping of center stand at every turn gets tiring at the place from where I come.
@शिरीष ರಾಮಾಯ The both can do same comfortable speeds, so that's not a point. Give or take 5kmph more on the Himalayan.
I personally own a Himalayan and this video is just says whatever I had to say. Love from India
I've been seeing reviews... and comparisons. Royal Enfield manages to get a fraction of the power of that KTM gets of a similar cc engine... so my honest question is:
Does it feel slow or underpowered with those 23 BHP ??
How effective would it be to get some speed to overcome a truck at a normal higway??
@@guzzidelgado I feel the power sufficient enough in the Indian roads. But at sometimes I wish it had a bit more juice. KTM is much more costly than the Himalayan.
Harinandan Rajeev thanks !
@Chaudhry Vikrant ror but you can't do that all day
Chaudhry Vikrant ror thanks for the answer!
My dream bike is himalayan I am gonna buy it with my own money soon 🥰😍
My dream tooo
Wish you good luck bro.
💙💙💙
me too
Good luck 👍
I've been on the market for a while now for a motorcycle and I've looked at just about everything, from cruisers and barn finds to mod and wrench on, to high powered sport bikes, to SuMo ones, but at the end of the day the question still lingers in my head:
"Why not a Royal Enfield?"
Careful, the Royal Enfield's can cast a spell on you and before you know it your in love... 🌞
@@Grasshoppers_Path They already did mate. They already did...
I have an ftr 1200s, a zero fxs, zx10, Buell lightning and a himilayan. No kidding, I like the himilayan the most. You can’t beat it for the value.
That's a motorcyclist's motorcycle. The og.
Go ahead brother ,it will not bother you🍫🍫
Good God those KTM's are ugly.
The Enfield is an "ugly duckling"?
Looks are subjective, but to me the Enfield looks like a real motorcycle, not a transformer toy.
Nice review, Himmy all the way.
Slow technical riding - low down torque beats high rev bhp everytime.
That KTM has a mag alloy 19" front wheel, just wrong KTM, just wrong.
Man ktm is fabir Himalayan is metal....
Ktm adv is not a complete off road bike. It's more suitable for highway cruise. Himalayan may be good on off road but after 100 km/hr vibrations builds up. But ktm runs like butter even in 140s. Ktm also has more features.
@@villavan caz of plastic. Lol

Michael Hayward I wish Enfield produced a bike with similar power to the KTM or KTM produced a bike that looked more traditional like the Enfield.
Looks like a great day fellas! And nice video! I'm a little biased, but it's good to see people come to the realization that the Himalayan is simply a capable and fun bike, especially for the money.
Hey i watched your video few days ago really man you deserve alot of subscibers much love from INDIA 🇮🇳
Have ridden both the bikes and now I own KTM ADV and loved how the video covers almost all aspect. The best part was both these bikes were tested the right("Adventurous") way. Looking forward to more videos.
Your name is COVID!!
KTM Duke 390 for road and Himalayan everywhere else. Brilliant video 👍
Thank you for clearing out my doubts on Himalayan Brothers.. Love from 🇮🇳
Lets take moment to appreciate that HIM really did good offroading, sometimes even better than the KTM
Himmy is a pure, ment to be thrown around type of bike. Whereas Adv is just more like a lifted up duke tbh
Really loved this video... Great practical comparison.... Love the production values of this team...
Sidharth Nagamalli Thanks!
Absolutely loved it. No ranting about the cheap price, or low power, Just an open minded review. Loved it.
Fellas,
I myself just bought the 390 after a decade+ on a 09 KLR650. Agreed! Very fun bike. Has surprised me every time I take it out for an adventure. Point to make, adjust the handlebars more forward then it came. Easier for stand riding. Plus the armor upgrade (skid plate) has been on back order for 6 months now. Really would like to take it places my KLR went but not until armor is in place. Keep Moving Forward!
Almost got fixed to buy KTM 390, but this video is giving me second thoughts to re think about THE Himalayan. What a video man, really awesome, never seen such kind of review 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Love the KTM! What you did to these two street bikes was ridiculous and impressive at the same time! Proves you don’t have to have 100hp and $30 grand to have fun!
I like RE's Himalayan .
Its look or design is just perfect.
Great production value, excellent choice of music and editing that makes this look like a grand adventure! So much fun to watch this adventure ride and to listen to the thoughts on the two bikes. Also, this video is so relevant to the Indian audience, as you must have observed by the comments.
I've been eyeballing the huski 401, I really think the Himalayan is gonna do it for me
Nice to see you guys trash them around, I like both of the bikes but I would rather go with the Royal Enfield only because they seem big and have that engine which keeps going..☺️👍🏼
one of the best reviews i have seen out there, congrats guys!
🤘🏻🤘🏻
In India you could buy 2 himalyan in price of 1 ktm 390!!!.
totally value for money in India🔥❤️
Not exactly, himalayan on road price INR 230K, KTM ADV 390 on road price INR 350k
@Tarun Kumar yeah, himalayan is more suitable for Indian roads and value for money too
awesome video bro awesome royal enfield Himalayan love from India ❤🇮🇳
Love the Himalayan motorcycle....it looks good and works so well!
RE himalayan is one of the most valuable low budget off-roader,,I have one.as a owner proud of my bike
Well done. They’re both ridiculous and impressive at the same time. Thanks for the video. Made me smile!
Bought the Himalayan for it’s looks, even though the KTM is more powerful!
With a price of 2.25 lakh in india Himalayan is a legendary motorcycle
Mate of mine bought a Hymalayan, I loved the idea...until I rode it, twist the throttle at 60mph and very little happens, it would get to 80 odd eventually but 27hp, nah, was very comfortable though and great on fuel. Then I bought an XT 660...too heavy, and not very quick. After a good look around I discovered bmw made some 650 single adventure bikes back in 2007-2009 the g650 xcountry...53 hp 160 kilo wet so I found a 2009 model with less than 3k on it....Best cheap adventure Bike by a country mile.
the upgraded Himalayan is now coming with switchable rear abs, more refined engine, hazard light, new colors options and some other minor tweaks, making it even more porposeful :-)
Cheers!!
Thanks for the update 👍👍
Bs6 Himalayan is slower and has shittier brakes. The bs4 fi is just as refined, as bs6(refinement is because of better fueling because of fi). The best Himalayan is bs4 fi.
@@SuperImbadude well REs tends to have problems unit-wise rather than model wise (common problems)! isn't so?
@@sourabh_mishra it's not about problems, check out zigwheels for bs6 Himalayan review.
@@SuperImbadude I have already..
There's no doubt how capable the Himalayan is..
But RE *has to* work on quality..
Brilliant video. Good honest views on the bikes & great riding footage.
That's a great video... Loved every bit of it...
Love from India!
Only thing missing here is the Hero Xpulse . I will prefer that over the Himalayan anyday .
100% excellent, real world. Well done.
Booked an Himalayan yesterday ... can't u tell you guys how excited I am
Thoroughly enjoyed the show, I'm also proud owner of Himalayan
The RE is a nice looking bike. They need to make one with more power for American roads.
Superb ADV video unleashing the capabilities of both these mini ADV bikes
Its just unbelievable that Himalayan manages to keep up with the KTM except maybe the breaking. Could it be coz of the type of engine & state of tune that these bikes have?
Same here viewed this video to know more about the RE Himalayan
Great entertaining video! Really enjoyed it. Consider me subscribed. So impressed with the Himalayan.
From the video, what I understood:
1. KTM performed as expected. It justified the tag and performed great overall. It's nimble, lightweight and you can throw it around without a sweat
2. The Himalayan just about manages to hold it's ground. It doesn't disappoint anywhere, but it isn't really great at anything either. It basically does the job.
All the Indian reviewers have been bashing the KTM unnecessarily when most of them can't ride off-road. Most of them can't even ride on the track and have little to no skills barring a very few guys.
The Himalayan although nice, is like a budget smartphone. It does the job. KTM is more like that mid tier phone that offers a lot of things, is good at lot of them as well but isn't really flagship.
An average indian biker is skilled, we don't need to go off-road!
If an Indian biker doesn't know how to ride then no one does.
How 'bout: On this weeks episode of "Two dudes with hats - Oh and also we ride bikes, do camping and stuff". Not too short, maybe abit long but The Shawshank Redemption is harder to say.
Bike World Adventure. I hope you try the Versys x300. I'm eyeballing that for a small adv bike.
No matter u call it ugly , the truth is ,it was ,it is , it will be everybody's favourite off-road bike ,specially in india ...no chance of it, letting u down ..😍🔥..if u wana carry u r home ,without caravan ,this bike is the best option ever ..for worst terrains..
Manjunath H BSC CBZ We know, the looks are a subjective thing. It’s a great bike!
Amazing for your video. You are a good driver, I admire your driving. I love the video, thanks for sharing.❤❤❤
I enjoyed the video immensely. Your name-Bike World Off-Road- is good. But if you're wanting a name that is different and perhaps catchy, you could call the series "Forgotten Road." This is the title of my 2012 novel that includes a bunch of motorcycle adventures. I write under the name Randall Arthur.
Your honest appraisal for the Royal Enfield Himalayan is very appreciated . I am leaning towards that bike.
Iam surprised KTM didn't put spoke rims on the 390... I've had the Duke390 and was an amazing lil bike.. but had to go with a CRF250L Rally for me fun machine..
Budget bikes? Damn here it's expensive. For us xpulse 200 is a budget bike. Himalayan is not ugly, it's a fashionable bike as well
Great video
Thanks for posting it up.
These are the two bikes I'm thinking about. Thanks for the vid.
What a fun video to watch! Thanks so much!
Glad that the new gen himalayan survived thus keeping the reputation of India intact cuz earlier it has many quality issues. The owners suffered a lot. I honestly have started taking a liking of it. Really hardcore oldschool bike.
Himalayan,Ofcourse!
Himalayan is far more powerful and capable for off-road. A great machine under budget. But people in India actually do all this on 125cc bikes also (around 1000 US dollars) on regular basis as No Option... Budget issues... Circus between Practical mileage and some horse power for fun.. Survival of the fittest. Still these Indian bikes run easily for years.. Low maintenance costs.. Affordable spares..
Hats off to Indian bike manufacturers... They actually make robust long lasting machines for peanut price tags.
Indian Bajaj holds 40%+ of KTM ...
And Royal Enfield is 100% indian owned company.. and india is the largest motor cycle market ...
And still Harley-Davidson is sleeping ...
Royal Enfield Himalayan
Many thanks for a very entertaining and also informative report... and even better with the beers & whiskey at the end of it... men after my own heart! (y)

Most of the my friends will order the Himalayan over KTM 390 adventure .
Because that's a toy

Here in India we have Yezdi Adventure and other bikes from Jawa and Yezdi.... 2 legendary companies..... I think foreign riders must explore them
Fantastic video, love this adventure style format with budget friendly bikes!
If you like twisted plastic then I guess the Himalayan isn't your look. Looks like a classic motorbike where you can see the inner workings of damned thing.
Great video ! Bike World Off Road needs to be a regular 😃🏍👍.
Himalayan forever...❤
Thanks for an enjoyable video... A word about cheap adv bikes... You guys must try the Hero Motocorp's X-Pulse..
Its half the cost of Himalayan in India, and it can well do whatever the Himalayan can, off road..and that includes the trail you guys did in the video😁😁👍👍
I've ridden both of 'EM through Himalayas... The Himalayan offers more fun whereas the KTM offers better engine. To own a KTM should be hassle free and to own a Himalayan is just the opposite...
- Own a KTM and Rent a Himalayan 😀
wow thats good quality content ! thank you
Cheers Quentin
River? That's a flowing Mumbai sewer! You need to do a back to back test during peak Mumbai monsoon.
I have a Thunderbird from RE, and the only thing missing is those 10 more BHPs that are needed on open highways. That's the only reason I am not decided on buying Himalayan. I know doing 100 kmph on open highway is not fun.
To reach the mountains, first I need to cover the 60 to 80% of highways.
I ride a 2005 Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage Classic that has probably seen more off-road miles than 90% of the ADV riders in the United States.
I have a Hymalayan and I cant tell you how many people come over to asking me about it. It's a conversation starter for sure. It climbs like a tree sloth on crack.
Nice choice .
"Climbs like a sloth on crack" Hahahah that's a hilarious analogy.
I've been seeing reviews... and comparisons. Royal Enfield manages to get a fraction of the power of that KTM gets of a similar cc engine... so my honest question is:
Does it feel slow or underpowered with those 23 HP ??

I really love the look of the Himalayan. It’s a bike that can take you to far flung places for not a lot of money .
It's a cheap bike to maintain as well, everything is metal, very few things to break

I like the way the RE looks. Braking might be fixed with a set of pads. If you can find the ABS fuse you can find the wire to it and add a switch in line, boom, switchable ABS.
The new BS6 emmision norms version in India has now got the switchable ABS, so that's probably coming out soon.
Naaa.. Don't worry about that anymore. The new Himalayan has a switchable ABS. So we are good to go. Yes it is utilitarian and "agricultural"... But for that price, you get a motorbike that just feels like one ! You don't get fancy electronics, no fiber body part. It is just man and machine. And I like it that way !
You could always pull the ABS fuse to stop the working of ABS
@@aswinkumar.p993 They said that in the video. I proposed installing a switch so that it could be turned on and off without disassembling portions of the bike each time. A couple of other people said the new model will indeed have a switch for this purpose.
Yep the BS6 version does have a switchable ABS system
Thank you for this.
I was just complaining last night about how I couldn't find good content for these bikes. All of the videos are macho Americans who complain about anything under 100hp... I just wanted an honest review of the Himalayan or other smaller bikes without aggressively comparing them to the much bigger and more expensive brothers.
You gave me exactly what I've been looking for. Just good content with the Himalayan and 390, you respected the bikes for what they are and gave honest opinions. We may not share the same opinions on everything (I quite like the Himalayan.. it's a nice looking bike.) but I'm glad I watched.
Thanks.
danteelite Cheers, glad you enjoyed it. 👍🏻
I'm American and 100% agree with you on how our reviewers have talked about these bikes, especially the Himalayan. Every review talks about how they might be good for light off-roading. And then these guys show that to be well and truly false. These are hugely capable and deserve a spot at the table.

You should call it Bike World's "Two Nuts One Rut."
What great times for motorcycling! We even have good small engine ADV's to chose from. No longer are we forced to wrestle 1200+cc up a rocky hill. Light and nimble is the way to go for some light-medium of road trails.
You have never been forced to, you just followed the hype, bikes like Honda xr400, xr650L Yamaha xt660 xtz250 drz400 dr350 dr650, klr 250, klr 650, were the adventure bikes of the past just didn’t had the hype
@@BBR-sp5qt If those japanese manufacturers refreshed those bikes people would have more interest. Some of the bikes you listed haven't had simple updates riders beg for in decades. Meanwhile, the european brands keep innovating and releasing new bikes every year.
Rein Hart
I agree with you, instead of that Japanese brands are making bland street bikes disguised as adventure bikes, I think in the past were called dual sport bikes; Kawasaki are trying to fill the gap of the klr 650 with the versys 300, In some markets suzuki stop selling dr and drz and selling the vstrom 250. I like the ktm 390 but I would like a little more off road of it, the RE seems really under power regardless the torque every people here talk about it, Indian people claim is a tourer, and maybe for India it is they don’t go more that 100kms/hr. But in many countries we need at least 120-130 to talk about touring, in the segment 250-500 cc I think the ktm could be the one, because of power-weight ratio
So it’s the best adv bike because a youtuber did like it? Bike is heavy and underpowered, I love the look of it, but need more power
So, if I want to do 120kms/hr should get a street bike? The Himalayan is the only one adv bike over the 300cc can’t do it.
Lightweight?? It’s heavier than a suzuki dr650 or about the same as a klr650 with half the power and torque, I really want to like the RE, but it needs more power, if RE put the 650 twin on it, they will hit the sweet spot of medium light adv bikes
I Love my Himalayan after BMW GS 1000, GS 1200.., GS !00, ...it's a torquey beast...4000 USD
The best Bike World episode ive ever seen. You dont need to travel across the world or spend a lot of money to have an amazing time on a bike. You just have to get out and do it
very ice video. brain says ktm, heart says himalayan.
The power comes at really low rpm thats why it could chuck well and keeping going. I have ridden it in Himalayalas in north sikkim "Gurudongmar" as well as Tawang, Arunachal "go chela pass". It really is good offroading bike.
