Thanks for the conversation yesterday. I appreciate your time. Looking forward to the unveiling!!!
Thank you.
I here from your tinyhome episode. Looking forward to being inspired! Be blessed
Thank you! Really appreciate it. Follow along, this time I am going to take everyone through the entire build process.
Ha just saw that truck on a Midwest Military video yesterday.
Ha! Possibly. This one has been in CT since end of May.
Right on man, I look forward to checking it out once you're all done!
Thank you! Hope all is well, see you on the road soon.
I like the 6x6 version, you will have better capabilities off road in sand, loose gravel, mud, etc as there is less weight on each wheel. Make sure you get lockers for each axle.
Thanks for watching. Yes, that is a significant advantage- I agree.
New subscriber. Found you through Ryan Duzer’s channel. Love any type of outdoor adventure channel; if done right. Can’t wait to catch up to your current posts…
Thank you so much for the support. Ryan is an awesome human.
I saw Mike's version 4 on the MWE channel and didn't know it was his. Now I know it is his and probably will be getting the orange paint versions 1-3 had. Congratulations, Mike. Excellent choice of expedition LM/FMTV. Enjoy the transformation and exploring.
Thank you so much. Vids coming soon
Love the channel. excited for the update videos!
More to come! Editing now. Thank you.
Awesome platform and can't wait to watch (and learn) as you progress! Being a Mog guy, I do miss your Merc, but the 6x6 looks like it's going to fit you much much better - congrats!
Thank you. I miss the mog too for sure.
Atlas Metal Works are my peeps!! Gary and Dennis are some of my very favorite people to know. Seriously. I’ve known Bob since he was selling hot rod parts over in East Hartford and used to visit that place regularly. Literally only the finest quality work comes out of the Atlas shop and I’m glad to see that you are collaborating with them for your custom builds. Excellent. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Thank you for watching. Yes, Atlas does not mess around. This is the 4th truck that they have worked on for me.
Another Mike Laden masterpiece! Can’t wait! Great base vehicle btw!
Thank you!!
Looking forward to it Michael! Especially now that we’re fully teased! 😁😁
Ha Ha Thank you!
Really looking forward to seeing how everything will come together. No doubt this truck will be even more beautiful than the last one!!! And the last one was beautiful!!!
Thank you! Excited as well, see all of you guys soon.
Called it with the 6x6.... Very nice! Hope to see it at Overland East!
Thank you! See you at Expo!
Just by watching your videos and hearing amazing life changing stories in your adventures all overlander drivers have such amazing stories and motivations to which My wife and I already planned to build one too hopefully things go well and we would start building soon blessings to you and all overlander drivers
Glad you like them! Best of
Luck.
Nice Mike! Looking forward to watching your new rig come together. And can’t wait to see it in person down in Tacoland.
You and me both! See you soon George.
I love it man! Looking forward to the build series.
Thank you! Hope all is well!
Very cool, been waiting for update and unvieling. Look forward to seeing you in VA……
Thank you! See you in VA!
Awesome!
Thanks man!
An overland toy hauler Sweet!
Sorta kinda!
Mad build skillz strike again. Loved the unimog still unimog love. This will be great.
Thank you!
Nice choice for a platform! I have a 2002 m1078a1 with the 330hp. Building an 18-foot box for our habitat. Very excited for you and looking forward to watching your build series. Congratulations 🎊
Thank you, appreciate it and I will look for your build as well.
Just got here through another video...really liked your comment to just start instead of "getting ready to get ready"...not even close to ready but a thing to keep in mind in general I guess! Will follow you as from now and have some catching up to do on your other videos ;-) Big thumbs up from the Netherlands
Thank you. Appreciate the support.
Congrats Man , new platform looks cool. My layout is much more compact , but i really like my garage for my Bikes ! One thing I did do that i am also really happy about , is that i can access the garage , via a small door from inside my truck. Big thing for added ability to get stuff , put stuff away etc. when the weather is foul. Looking forward to watching progress ~peace~
Thanks man, I am stoked to get it done and move back onto the road. A door is a great idea, I am looking at a few ideas.
It has a deck!
Ha! It will have a deck, just not the area you see in this video as that will be part of the box
We are super excited to see this build!
Can't wait to move into it, believe me! Thanks for everything. Still on schedule 🙏
I got my 2005 1079 from Midwest Military, they were great to work with. They did my hwy gears as well.
Wow 😍😍😍 even I would trade my doka for that rigg 😂 but hard to find one in Sweden 😅. Looking forward to the build looks awesome...
Thank you!
Guess I spoke to soon. Gaining 2' of inside space will be great. Garage in there will probably take up 3' to 4' of space. Looking forward to actually seeing the build this time. I know you planned on showing us more details on the M1079 build but it never happened. Excited to see the build & think you made the right choice with the 6x6. When you told us you were getting rid of the M1079 & going with something else I was disappointed. My heart sank. I wondered what you were doing because I felt that you had the best vehicle in my mind for your travels. I thought the only thing better would have been a 6x6 Stewart & Stevenson. M1086 would have been my choice. Could add your garage to the back after removing the MHE keeping your 20' of living space. Anyway I'm happy you went with the 6x6. After seeing the quality of your last build I'm sure this one is going to be outstanding.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, garage will be 4 feet which will give me 17 feet for the living space- same as I had on the last truck with the bump out area.
I think it is a great upgrade. I really like the idea.
I think so too! Thank you.
I'm green. I got a 1083 that's in awesome condition and I want to build it into an expo rig...but having a 20ft bed(another 5.5 ft) would be a huge advantage.
I have the ECO Hubs 2:1 planetary delete...HUGE improvement in the way the truck drives. The trans now shifts and works the way it should, and at 65 mph the truck rolls happily down the road at about 1500 RPM (its torque peak) with my foot barely on the throttle. Engine temp is stable at about 190 and NO FAN. FAN has not kicked on since I installed the ECO hubs. I am not a FAN of that FAN.
Also the truck is WAY quieter inside. All the drivelines are now half the RPM and there's no planetary gear noise ('cause they're GONE). You can carry on a conversation in a relatively normal tone of voice, and that's with NO sound deadening in the cab. (I'm doing that now) If I was planning to travel in this truck there is no way I would NOT do this mod. It's a game changer.
And just FYI - the 6WD is awesome. You're gonna like it.
Thank you, and best of luck on your build. I did the 3.07 gear swap. The eco hubs look awesome honestly, the only thing I am waiting to see is somebody to really put them through some serious weight and torque.
Went through MME for my 1078 recently as well
Best of luck with the new truck! I have been very happy with MME.
Fantastic series and build. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you.
Super excited for the build process and the videos about it!
Thanks for watching. I can't wait to move in!!
Hell yeah! It’s going to be so sick. Cant wait to check it out.
Thanks! Can't wait till we can camp together again!
Love it! I’ve had a 3126 in my bucket for for 7 years and have done absolutely nothing to it other than oil and air filter service!
I recommend putting a fresh water pump belt on it and it’ll be excellent for a long time🤘🏻
Pilgrimage!? Bringing my fj60 this year
Thanks for the advice. So far love it!!! No pilgrimage 😭 He changed the dates and they conflict with Overland Expo East.
Ambitious and will be amazing!! Congratulations!!
Thanks! Maybe not as ambitious as doing the Baja Divide! 😂
Ya buddy! This is the way!
Thank you!
cant wait to see your build process video!!
Thank you, many coming soon.
I can't wait to see the build ! Have you looked into Acela Truck company in Bozeman? I am thinking of going that route with a 6x6.
Best of luck! I love the trucks.
Great video, you have one monster there !! You can get around anywhere’s amazing 😊 looks like lots and lots of hard work has gone into it
Thank you!
Congratulation for your new track. My question to you how you cover your expenses when you travel for long trip
Thank you! I am now retired & I keep expenses low with no traditional overhead.
This is going to be epic! Can’t wait! 🧡
EPIC!
looks awsome, can't wait to see it all coming together
Thank you, I can't wait either!
Hi mike waiting to see your new truck camper from French Polynesia
Boom! It is here!
Looking good my friend. Let me know if you are going to be in the Myrtle Beach area when you get moving again....we'll have a drink and listen to some Hanson!!!
Thanks man! Will do. Are you down there now?
@@drivetheglobe YUP. I moved here permanently in February.
@@user-zo5zu9ii4l Awesome! Congrats. We will have to have the old gang together at some point.
Prying eyes are going to be all over your truck, so I hope you’re going to have a very good security system.
I am certainly used to that!
Mike love the new truck are you going to extend the box for more room with your motorcycle and your bikes can’t wait to see the new truck in two months thank you for your videos on your different places you have been from the states and Mexico from French Polynesia again god bless you
Thank you, really appreciate the support.
Awesome! Looking at the same or very similar platform (a 1084 as well) but the current plan is pretty different otherwise (composite box, replace the flatbed with a torsion free subframe). Can’t wait to see a different perspective. Have you seen the new ‘eco hub’ product? Sounds like a significant mileage and livability improvement for not a lot of money. With the distances you cover I’m sure they’d pay for themselves quickly! Looking forward to more on this one
Can't wait to see yours as well. I saw the eco hub, already did the highway gears though.
@@drivetheglobesomebody on steel soldiers has both, he seemed happy with it
Congratulations 🌟 Looking forward to the new build series.
Will you be building a deck on the roof with some sort of flip up solar panels turned into railings?😮
There will be a deck, but not on the roof on this one.
@@drivetheglobe Garage or cab deck? Hhhmmm. Interesting to find out. 🤔
Please say the deathstar lamp will have a home in the new build.🌞
@@livingworkingoutsidebox Garage, off the rear,. Gonna be cool. Deathstar kinda.... something a bit more conducive to bumpy travel.
Hey congrats on the finished rig!👍🎥
Can't wait for the tour video. 😊 saw the reels on IG.
Jonezen for Long-form version. 😊😮😅
Hey if you do a tiny homes tour video again don't forget to sprinkle/mention 3 times to sub to your channel! Then give them your yt channel link with the auto sub string at the end for better conversions.
?sub_confirmation=1
Finished in time for Overland Expo East in October?? You are a clever designer, looking forward to this new project and series.
Thank you! Appreciate it. I should be at Overland Expo East!
Just today saw the wrecked rig on Hwy 299 near Willow Creek CA. Which version of your rig is - was - it? Such a bummer. Beautiful rig.
Getting reports of this from a few people. Which truck was it? I have not confirmed anything.
@@drivetheglobe I can confirm that it hit hard off the road while headed eastbound near East Fork campground on Hwy 299 east a few miles outside/west of Willow Creek, CA. It looks like version 1.
@@highsierratimes Mercedes unimog? That likely would have had a trailer behind it?
@@drivetheglobe Yep
Is the box insulation adequate or will who have to add insulation?
Yes, it is actually pretty good. Worked very well in my last rig. Of course I will be insulating the extension portion in a similar fashion.
thanks man ,, will you be kind to give guidence on finance ,,,
I will be discussing cost of these various builds.
SOOOOO, where are these weekly videos you promised??
Come on now! Upload the progress videos. We want to see the build!
😂😂😂 Promise, they are coming! This short build deadline is killing all my time.
You rarely did videos with the last one. I figured the insurance and gas was too much money for RUclips traveling videos.
Got a whole bunch coming with this new one.
and did you consider to put on you're rv an air dehumidifier?
Yes, this truck is getting a roof AC unit
@@drivetheglobe thank you for you're answer
Discovered you a few minutes ago on Doodles channel Will you share what type grill you have in the video? It sounded like you said tempo tuscala but I cannot find it in google. Thank you
Tembo Tusk Skottle.
it has been a while and are you gonna make longer videos or put the cut scenes in the video you're upload schedule took long
Expect to put out a video each week on Tuesday.
@@drivetheglobe thank you for you're answer
Have you looked into Acela in Bozeman?
They do great work. Just very $$
@@drivetheglobe totally understand that
@@mickeyhartley6803 they do a lot of work for the commercial oil gas industry.
Where do you get the money from and then where do you find the time? The two don’t go together.
I am retired.
Probably mostly from companies sponsor.
What happened to see you next week 3 months ago?
Project got overwhelming with the deadline. All filmed and I am editing now.
Do you need a CDL to drive this truck?
No you do not. Only need a CDL in the US if a vehicle is used commercially. This is a motorhome, so no matter what weight it is except.
You are so handsome
Amazingly so
Nice but you're loosing 5" of living Space
Actually will be almost identical space to last truck plus a 4 foot garage.
Kill the music.
Half like the music, half hate it.
Good enough, maybe split the difference and cut it in half.
@@DennyReichard I like that idea!
Dang, too long, too tall, and too heavy for most trails in the western US. But whatever.
Hmm, guess you haven't seen how I drive 😂 Beside, thats what the motorbike is for.
can't stop laughing at these "Overland Expedition Vehicles" which spend 99.999999% of their time on paved roads .... one imagines an " Overland Expedition Vehicle" crossing the Sahara, Russian Tundra or the Amazon but the comical reality is that my 96' Accord can travel every route they do...
I talk about this a lot in my weekly podcast. The reality is that many places- even remote ones- are accessible by just about any vehicle. Too much time is spent on building things, and getting ready to get ready. The successful overlanders actually get out there and do stuff- no matter what the vehicle.
@@drivetheglobe
I agree 100%.. but as a LMTV owner i see many a OEV build out begin but few succeed to completion.. I applaude your commitment especially from the financial perspective... and most importantly there is nothing like pulling next to a Jeep with shiny tires .. priceless .
@@BERZERKERSV4 ha ha! True!
WHAT HAPPENED TO MORE RAPPID VIDOES?WTF
I know. Life. They are all filmed. Editing now.
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
