In 1866, the method for making tjendol (Cendol) aka dawet, was published in the Dutch East Indies Cook Book. This is written evidence that cendol has been a part of Indonesian people's lives for 400 years. The word "tjendol" is also in a Dutch dictionary published in 1869 which shows it as a Javanese food.

I've been going to Malaysia now for over 20 years...your video shows why I keep going back. They have some of the most underrated foods. Admittedly it doesn't look that great, but put it in your mouth and WOW! You get some of the best flavors in the world.
Some of my favorites that you didn't mention is Baby Kai Lan a veg dish (must be "baby" not the regular one), Butter Prawns (unbelievable taste), Chili Pan Mee (don't put all the chili in 🥵), Laksa (not the Asam/sour one), Prawn mee (the bigger the better), and Ais Kachang (I like this over Chendol)... These are not all Malay dishes, some are Chinese, but I can't find them anywhere outside Malaysia. The cultures have blended and the food is great. If you get a chance give Indian food a try, it is so much more flavorful that what you get in the US.
Sharing this video with all my friends on FB that don't understand why I keep going back to Malaysia...I just got back 3 days ago from a 1 month stay in KL. May be going back again in May...the food is calling me.🤣🤣

Right? Malaysian food is SO underrated internationally. The deep flavours, the variety, the way you can find dozens of dishes on any given block. It is food heaven. We were lucky enough to spend 4 months and it wasn't nearly enough to try everything. We're also already talking about where we'll visit when we come back. Malaysian food use a lot of local fresh ingredient and spices that are difficult to be available in other country. I think that's why Malaysian food is a bit difficult to be replicate in country outside Malaysia.
For example, the Assam laksa, without the fresh ginger flower this laksa doesn't taste the same.

Hi! Malaysians should be proud of their food, it's really something special. I'm surprised to hear that some people don't like Assam Laksa, it's my favourite! Durian on the other hand, I can see how some people aren't crazy about it. I think it's OK, depending on the variety, but durian isn't something I NEED to have like the Assam Laksa. To each their own I guess, right?
