Usually when you end up in a restaurant full of tourists, the food can be not great. This was definitely not the case in Ipoh! We found some restaurants and dishes popular with visitors to find out why they're so popular, turns out, it's because they're delicious! Where have you been, and what were the dishes you've eaten that are totally touristy, but absolutely worth it?

Wow, giving so positive comments how good ipoh foods and drinks I like to thank you but this will make all this food vendors increase the price and we ipoh folk will bear the high price of this with influx of more tourists coming over here.

Not everything is for everyone, I guess. For example I (Angela) don't like mushrooms and Geoff hates tomatoes. But bean sprouts we both like, especially the fat juicy Ipoh ones!
@@fisherman9520 I just put that into google translate and it said it means "spicy fat" and now I HAVE to eat something like this. It's the first time I'm hearing this term. PLEASE tell me how to find it, lol
@@PureDetour 😂 google translate is hilarious. "Lemak pedas" is a common spicy yellow gravy (bird's eye chilli & tumeric in coconut milk) eaten with with rice like in "nasi campur". It originated from West Sumatera. Yes it can be super spicy. You'd get this (and its variations) in almost any Malay restaurant in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Southern Thailand and Brunei. You'd have in it chicken or beef (smoked or not), cow's belly, fish, clam, mud creeper, prawn or lobster. Lemak in Malay context is more often than not has to do with coconut milk in the cooking i.e nasi lemak. Some add coconut milk in curries. It is a must ingredient in "rendang". Kaya, a Hainanese & Baba- Nyonya creation, prime ingredient is coconut milk & palm sugar, hence "lemak manis". It can't be sweet fats 😂. Malays are obsessed with "santan" (coconut milk) that many dessert & pastries are "santan" based. Lemak manis that is. We'd also say "lemak merdu" which means tuneful as in singing voice or the proverb "banyak lemak" referring to troublesome behavior in a person or being lazy. Literally "banyak lemak" does mean too much body fats. That nasi ganja's special orange "sambal makes it so addictive. Maybe there's ganja is in it 😂. The only unpleasant thing about is the always long que.
@@fisherman9520 Ahhhh, that makes much more sense than the google translate 🤣🤣🤣and yes, now that we're in Malaysia we're obsessed with coconut milk too. So interesting the figures of speech, Thanks so much for taking the time to explain to us, it can be confusing not knowing the language well! As for the Nasi ganja, we got there early, we were the first ones there! So we beat the line by half an hour 🤣 we're always early

Quietly, according to history Sultan Perak is the most brilliant Sultan among others Sultans. Perak is the only state in Malay Peninsular that could repel the Siam invasion of Perak with the brilliant war strategy by its Sultan and its warrior by playing tin commodity trade strategy with British, Bugis, Selangor, Siam, Kedah to face Siam invasion, buying weapons, getting army assistance. Perak has many tin mines and with tin commodity British, Siam and other states bow to Perak. Perak never bow and never been invaded by Siam like Pattani, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu , Pahang etc but instead Perak could stole a large Siam territories in Yala and Songkla into its fold that now known as Hulu Perak district. Due to fail invasion of Perak eventhough many times campaign in Perak, King of Siam so frustated and stop his intention to attack and invade all other states. Perak has salvaged Malay Peninsular from fall to Siam. Thanks to Perak. You should learn History of Perak its very interesting.

Do you know bean sprouts in Ipoh has no 'tail'.
I still don’t care for Tau fu fah (soy bean pudding) even when I was a kid growing up in KL.
We weren't sure if we would like it, but were pleasantly surprised. Especially the palm sugar and ginger syrup versions.
Ipoh has more than 6 delicious street food
Of course, but we never claimed these were the only delicious foods in Ipoh
I love me some mizzy ganja
We had heard it was good, but we weren't prepared for that level of delicious. Perfection
🤤🤤
Right? Ipoh was really deserves a bigger reputation worldwide as a food destination
👍🇲🇾
🇲🇾❤😋
Tofu fah is better with brown / palm sugar
The palm sugar was definitely Geoff’s favourite. I liked the ginger.
So how many kg did you add to your weight?
Thank goodness we don’t have a scale, we have no idea. My pants still fit, so that’s good. Right?
@@PureDetour those food you tasted on this vlog is just tip of the iceberg only. The pastries and dim sum is good too. And of course salt baked chicken. There is a restaurant famous for dry curry noodles not in this vlog of course. I shall try to find the name.

Where did you stay?
We stayed on Jalan Theatre. Do you know the area?
@@PureDetour No I don't. Plan to go there in a couple of weeks.
Oh cool! You're going to enjoy it there, how long are you staying?
@@PureDetour Well I'm here for 3 months so 7f* like it I'll stay a while. But right now I'm very tired and washed out and need badly to chill! Arrived Malacca today, for 10 days..
@@jackiemerino3910 Oh, we were in Malacca too! not sure where you're staying there, but Unicorn cafe and Asam Pedas Apak (it's spicy) have some great food there. And if you go to the Potrugese village, eat at Restoran Lisbon. try the curry debal (also spicy, lol). We also stayed in Malaysia for almost 4 months, it's a pretty chill place. I think I found Penang to be the most chill spot. 10 days is plenty of time to slowly catch yourself and chill out a bit in Malacca. If you have questions you can msg us on insta or fb, same user name. We just left Malaysia and miss it already
The worst is NASI GANJA. I really wonder why there are so many weirdos who said its the best.
Really? We thought it was delicious! What is your favourite Ipoh dish? We have one more Ipoh food video coming next week, maybe we tried your fave?
@@PureDetour pls dont take it personally. I appreciate your effort in making this video. There are many over rated places in IPOH... and Nasi Ganja is at the top of the list of the over rated ones. IPOH is not well known for Nasi Kandar. I should know, cos I grew up in Ipoh and still go to IPOH every 2 months so I am very much in touch with IPOH all my life and still do. The other over rated ones are LO WONG and ONN KEE...both selling horrible quality chicken rice. When I said Horrible...it means horrible for IPOH's food standard. Both are tourist traps so you will find majority of the customers are tourists and not locals.
not sambal actually curry
All nasi kandar, do not ever take the crab, big prawn and big squid. The price will kill you.
Mmmmm nasi kandar is delicious. I don't like squid all that much but love the crabs and big prawns! Though you're right, your wallet is lighter after that, lol
Please don’t fly after u try nasi ganja 😢😢
Don't fly? Hahha, why not?
Wow, that all sounds very interesting indeed
I have been living in Ipoh for the last few decades and most of the places you recommend I have never heard before. Don't pretend to be a food connoisseur when you are just passing by Ipoh. There are much more food which is more delicious and has been selling for decades.
Hahahaha. Where in the 140+ videos we have released did we ever claim to be food Connoisseurs? I'll let you know, NOWHERE. We only suggested some foods for tourists to try.
And of the 160+ comments on this video, with the overwhelming majority being people from Ipoh that have no issue with what we put out, you're the only one being an ass.
I'll bet you're a ton of fun at parties.
I'm really annoyed. I subscribed to your channel and RUclips undid it. So annoying. Resubscribed!
Thank you for resubscribing, Lizzy. I also have no idea why RUclips does that.🤷♂️
Great 👍 done sub
Thank you so much, Jocelyn
Thank god
I thought your 2 Ipoh chefs was your only Ipoh food experience 😅😅😅
