    Yes! Treat yourself to some nice hangers to honor the clothes you keep. I recommend the thin velvety ones. Shirts and dresses don't slide around and stay neat and tidy. No more messes.

      Erica discarded the dresses only because of the high neckline. If she tried them on backwards she may find she has a dress she really likes and saves her shopping for something new. She liked the material and the colour so it is worth just taking a second look.

    A couple of thoughts: 1. It's ok to wear something that isn't in one of your best colors, if other things about it bring you joy and you feel good in it! You might make a rule that you don't buy things that aren't in your palette, but you don't have to cast out things you already have and love just because they aren't the "right" color. 2. I've never met a grease stain that a dab of dish soap and a sprinkle of baking soda couldn't get out - even if it's been washed and dried multiple times!

      I just use the dish soap and it works great. It has to be dish soap though, since it has degreasing agents in it. I put some soap on it, then put a bit of water on it, lightly rub it and put it in the laundry without rinsing it off.

    Love the curly hair! If you can, hang that wool cardigan your lovely husband gave you in a drawer. Hanging wool (especially heavy wool) from hangers for an extended period of time can pull the wool and change it's shape, can really destroy it over time.

    I pulled a few items from the closet that I love but had little things wrong with them. I took them to a friend who sews and pointed out what I did not like. She made the alterations for me and now they are pieces I truly love that have a great fit to me. One time I watched a show and it say we can find great pieces that just need a little fix to love :) I hope this helps. Cut down the neck line to be one you are styled more comfortable with. Dress a bit too long: have it shortened to you.

    • @yolandapagan5656

      I often have my clothes altered too. I’m a petite curvy and busty woman. Hems on dresses, skirts, blouses, tees, shorts, and pants are common alterations. Taking in jean, short and skirts waists are also common alterations. I have also had darts placed on tops so they don’t gape funnily around the sleeve opening. I feel so much happiness when my clothes fit me. Recently I realized I’m not wearing a cross body purse that I love because the strap flap was so long it would jut out. My husband and I made some holes on the the straps and put jean buttons to hold down the strap. My purse is coming out to play with me soon.

    I strongly recommend treating yourself to wood hangers. I switched mine for wood a couple of years ago, and there’s something about it that makes me feel like I am taking better care of my clothes now.

    • @glockenrein
      @glockenrein 3 года назад +10

      Looking at the size of closets in the USA this might not be a problem but for me it was: wood hangers took up too much space and I replaced them with those very thin velvety non-slip ones so I can fit in more stuff. That makes it sounds like I have tons of clothes but I don’t, just a small wardrobe. 😄

    • @lisbetsoda4874
      @lisbetsoda4874 3 года назад

      I disagree with wood hangers except for men's suits and in my hall closet for heavy coats. The Velvet hangers are WAY better for our clothes so they don't slip off and still not taking up any space. Any closet can look luxurious if you leave air between the clothes so nothing seems squished together in there. That is all a matter of not owning too much.

    • @lisbetsoda4874

    Curly girl tip: try a microfiber towel for drying. I love the orange dress on you! The aqua...not so much because it is too loose/too big. Nice problem to have to pass it on. Also something to consider is that I've read that solids and very small prints are better than large prints, which age us.

    Instead of buying specialty hangers, I use clothespins. Using the same hangers you have, put the clothespin where the clip would be on the specialty hanger. As a suggestion for sweaters, you might want to fold them vs hanging. Hanging has a tendency to stretch them along with leaving hanger marks in the shoulder area.

    I have had my makeup brushes for years now. You can buy a bar of soap that is meant for washing your face. Wet your brushes and soap and gently rub the bristles of your brush against the soap. The bubbles will clean the inside of the brush as well (and won't ruing them) and then just rinse them under a stream of water. Since the soap I use is meant for face it means your skin won't react to it and break out. You can repeat the process for the same brush as much as you need to until you are sure it is clean.
    As for the pallets. I personally use the same "trick" professional makeup artists use. I sterilize my pallets every few months as it prevents bacteria growth on them. It has allowed me to use my favorite pallets even after they have "expired" without breaking out or having any reactions. Of course, this is just an advice and a matter of personal choice, but thought I could mention that. You can find videos on how to properly sanitize pallets on RUclips.
    Love Your videos

    Dere Erica, You need to use either wooden hangers or padded ones for your sweaters. They're really going to stretch out. You'll have hanger marks on the shoulders. Better yet, roll them up. Fold in half or in thirds, then put in a dresser drawer or a fabric bin like you've done for your intimates. This is much kinder to the fabric.

The flowers - I cannot wait to see that on - and I adore flowers. The brown longer dress with the long sweeping cardi - so elegant! Love love love all your wardrobe keeps!

    Lol it made me laugh so much watching this video. I was just thinking how long it would take me to do something similar. You see I hang my clothes on a hook behind the bedroom door and a few baskets. 3 skirts, 1 dress, 6 tees and 5 jumpers.

    Erica, get some felt hangers. The clothes will hang better and won't slip off. Use the plastic hangers for the kids clothes. Maybe also get your husband some felt hangers also. They also take up less room, not that you need them for that, but your clothes will not have any creases in the shoulders. Thanks for sharing your decluttering videos with us. You are always a ray of sunshine as you are so fun to watch.

    I love how real you are about declutter & talking through why you’re keeping or not. I’d definitely considering velvet hangers. Your clothes will hang nicely & not fall off. I’d also fold your heavy sweater instead of hanging it up. It will last longer. I’ve never used Poshmark but my friends who have said they like Mercari much better. They said there’s less fees & flat shipping fees. Mercari is also an app to post clothes to. I’ve bought from them & it’s been super easy process as a buyer. Love your videos!

    1) I loved the dresses on you, especially with higher waists.
    2) There was one dress you liked other than the length...it’s pretty easy to hem a dress if you like it enough to do a quick project.
    3) anytime I declutter clothes I turn the hangers to face backwards. Then if I wear something I hang it back up normally. So the next time I declutter, it’s easy to see what I never ended up wearing since those are the only backwards hangars.

    • @corikublank
      @corikublank 3 года назад

      Wish I could do the backwards hanger thing. I'm the kind of person who sees the backward hanger and feel obligated to wear the clothing because I haven't worn it yet unlike something else. I tried it once years ago when my mom was doing the same thing and it totally messed with my brain

    Same here with black clothes.. I had a time where I usually only wore black clothes, maybe with some blue.
    Now I just keep a black shirt, bottoms and dress for sad occasions like funerals etc... everything else is a lighter pink, beige or white - even some floral prints! ❤

      I’m also a Warm Spring and stick very closely to my pallet. I always feel more comfortable and confident when I dress in colors that make me shine and complement my shape. Knowing what my lines and colors are helps me “see” the clothes I like and why. So I agree with your choices to stick to your choices based on those elements.

    So funny that you posted this today, I decluttered my closet earlier today (and cleaned it) 🌟🌟 You really look amazing in those ”rusty” colors (orange/ brown hues). I’m sitting here, nodding when you showed some pieces you bought last spring, like the white blouse with flowers thinking ”yes, that’s a keeper” 😊 you made some great decisions today, I bet it’s a joy to walk in to your closet now! I got rid of 7 items today, I thought I had 0 to declutter 🙃🤷‍♀️

    That orange dress fits so perfectly! I think the green dress you´re wearing is pretty with your skin tone but a bit big. I´m getting back to the curly girl method and glad you are trying it too-your curls are looking nice. I need to purge my closet. Definitely replaying this when I do.

    Always enjoy your declutter videos, the Target dress 7.50min mark you said you loved the colour and fabric but didn’t like the neckline . I have a shirt just like that and I also like lower necklines so I just reversed it and now I wear it ALL the time and I’ve done it with one of my maxi dresses too! It’s like having a brand new dress ! I also think you could wear that white drapey cardigan with your dresses or your bodysuits and jeans. A trick I use if I want to see if I like wearing it differently with different combos is I commit to wearing every day from the morning for a week/fortnight and if I find I change it or take it off each day during that fortnight then I declutter it. It helps me feel I’ve given it a good go. Also changing my plastic hangers to felt ones was great but get better quality ones not super cheap like I did . When I hang my dresses on them to dry I flick them a few times to get creases out and don’t need to steam them . Love the navy and orange dresses on you. I know myself I now don’t buy white tops as I am super clumsy and spill so dark shirts for me 😊

    Tip: I use dawn dish soap (original) to pre-treat greasy spots on clothes. I just rub in bit on the stain. Toss in laundry basket. Then wash as usual. Works every time. I often say I have a hole in my chin because it’s inevitable that something will get on my shirt! Haha. Tfs!

    I've sold a handful of things on Poshmark over the past few years. Luck is definitely a factor in how soon something sells- listing the right size of a thing right when someone is looking for it. But other aspects that help things sell are listing larger brand names, lots of photos- especially if you have any photos of you wearing it or a photo from the retailer, and listing dimensions in the description in addition to the size.
