  • The rediscovery of the banjo's roots has spurred a cottage industry in creating gourd banjos fashioned after those made by Africans and slaves in the Americas. Working with Dena Epstein's pioneering research, Clarke Buehling, Scott Didlake and Pete Ross created gourd banjos now played by many famous banjo players, including Tony Trischka and Rhiannon Giddens.

    scott was my friend in toronto in the early 70's he was as humble and kind person as you could ever meet. i was very sad to hear of his passing. i was his roommate in 73 and i am also a musician...

    He has the passion for the early banjo as very few of us do. Hopefully, this will inspire more to pick up a gourdie.
