Man, this vid saved my back and improved my posture so much! I'm recommending this chair to everyone now thanks to you. I got rid of my gaming desk chair as well, it's so good!
I wish there was a caster/wheel option as that would really come in handy in my art studio. If I get this, I may search for wheels to add. Obviously, I would get some that have a brake/locking mechanism!
UPDATE: MAY 4 The Trollberget has a higher minimum sitting height - 26" / 66cm than the Lidkullen - 23¼" / 59 cm. I incorrectly said both had the same minimum height. Apologies. This adjustment makes the Trollberget less appealing to me.
Great video. Thank you for the review. I bought my Lidkullen today. Also, on a side note - you make great videos, I was shocked to see the low number of subscribers, probably your new. Anyway, keep going. You deserve more and audiences like us appreciate such nice informative candid videos. Take care.
Wow this was an amazingly produced review. As a videographer who is obsessed with productivity setups as well I can really appreciate all the production quality you put into this on top of the amazingly thorough review.
Thanks Quang! It's the kind of content I would have wanted in a review. Glad you're able to appreciate the quality. This one took a lot longer to make than expected.
@@ProductivityTherapy you can definitely see the work that went into it. You made the kind of review I would want to both see and make myself. Great slider work. If you do this level of production into a once a month video on posture and productivity vs doing a review you'll mostly certainly blow up in success! I went out the day ikea opened and bought this chair and it was exactly as you reviewed it.
Hey, sorry for the late reply and thanks again for the feedback. It's nice to know I'm hitting the mark on what some people wanted out of a review video. The slider was surprisingly well made, got a motorized one from Neewer with remote control. There are some issues with occasional jerkiness but for 1/3rd the cost over something better I'm incredibly happy with it.
Really good review mate. Helped me make a decision between the Lidkullen and the Trollberget. Both seemed similar when I tested them in the outlet. I was leaning towards the Lidkullen after testing, but your considered analysis really helped me finalise my decision. Well done and keep up the good work.
Wish I'd seen this! Bought the Trollberget a few weeks back and it's slippery as hell. Do you find the Lidkullen loses height? I'm 95KG but Trollberget is advertised at 110KG but drops a few inches when I sit on it at height ...
Perfect, thank you! I sat on one in an IKEA yesterday and was really impressed, but they were sold out. Your video made my decision to order one even easier. Thanks for doing this at your own expense and for being so thorough and thoughtful in your analysis!
I am always amzaed at the quality for price that Ikea delivers. One of the reasons why like half the furniture here in German households is from Ikea. And this review was great. Really made me decide on getting that one for work. I work at a small store and due to how much consultation I have to give and the "checkout" area being more like a bar than a normal cash register I can´t really sit down on a normal chair as it´s too low and getting up every 5-15 minutes would be quiet bothersome. But this is basically made for it.
Hi Andrew, thank you for your diligent review of the Lidkullen. Helps busy people to make informed choices! a request: Would you consider reviewing a standing desk in the future? Thank you!
I standing daily for office work around 9 hours. After 2 hours fatigue on my back and foot pain. Thank you for your options. I wish there were more just lean options
This video is awesome! I want to get the Lidkullen as my second chair now. ☺ I am curious, will you make any more videos like this? I would love to hear your thoughts on the first chair, and why you refer to it as the task chair....
I was researching alternatives for the leanright that you reviewed in another video, so I was really grateful to see that you created this one for it. Thank you so much!
You are mistaken about the foot rings. The narrower one is on the Lidkullen. I also find the seat on Lidkullen slippery too if I wear chino, not so with jeans.
Thankyou! I was looking at this chair a couple of months ago but they had sold out here in Australia. Just ducked down to Ikea after watching this and grabbed one now they are back in stock. Can confirm it is a great chair to use with a standing desk. Before this I was using the NILSERIK from Ikea and just find it super uncomfortable. So glad I've upgraded.
Would love a comparison to the more expensive qor360 ariel and the core chair. Looks like the qor360 had more range of movement and more reactive so a more active sitting position
One of the best lidkullen review i've ever seen. I am looking for standing chair and cant decide between Lidkullen and Nilserik (from Ikea too) I need it for my art studio. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
You're welcome Ghidaq! I was going to mention the Nilserik but cut that section due to time. I don't like the Nilserik. It's too short to have a great range of movement. The biggest drawback is the base is slippery on hard surfaces.
The Troll is fine too, there were some things I didn't like about it like the smaller foot ring, non-removable and slightly slippery seat but otherwise it shares the same functional characteristics as the Lidkullen.
Thank you for this review. Not gone lie I wanted that Other Ikea leather seat lol. But the point about the thinness of the metal and how your foot feels on it, is actually important to me. Looks like we have a winner!
I don't have a standing desk (yet), but was wondering how practical one of these would be - for now at least - for sitting at a fixed-height sitting desk for long periods. Even with high-end chairs (e.g. Steelcase Leap) I find that armrests, back supports etc eventually make me conform to the shape of the chair, and sooner or later slump. Switching to such a minimal setup seems daunting, however, as I'm looking for one chair to use all the time: I don't really want to have several chairs cluttering up the place so I can switch between them.
@@thibaultdhaese4739 Not yet, I went to Ikea with a tape measure and found that the stool is a little higher than a standard chair in its lowest position, so there's very little clearance for my thighs under a fixed-height desk. That in turn restricts movement, so kind of defeats the object... The other model (with the leather cover) is even higher and actually doesn't fit under the desk at all when in use. So, I'm just going to wait and buy the height-adjustable desk and stool together.
Thanks for this! I stumbled upon this stool on the IKEA website. I currently have a Nilserik but I’ve found that the curved seat is uncomfortable pretty quickly, so this stool seems like a good option. I have a desk chair that works really well for me but I like having that pelvis angle you mentioned, I do the same when meditating on a cushion on the floor and it makes all the difference in having a good active and comfortable posture. Now that we can only do order pickups and not test the product in store this review is really helpful.
Chanced upon this review 4 years after its making, thanks @ProductivityTherapy for the review. Anyone care to share a long term review and if the seat's cushion held up?
Re: the wobble chair, you were sitting on it wrong in terms of it's angle. The better angle would be to jut it out at the base and the lean backwards on it. So the tilt at the top is inward.
There's a bunch of ways to use that chair, I don't actually like that angle as it's not comfortable for me. Other people yes and if I end up reviewing it I'll definitely mention the leaning back method you brought up!
Good afternoon, and what is your table with a lifting mechanism? You can find out the name and dimensions of the table, and a link where you can buy it. How much does such a table cost?
I really want this seat but for a normal desk. The desk is 75cm high, and I can see the seat lowest height is 58cm. But that flat right? When you’re sat on the front, the front will be less than 58cm and the back higher than 58cm. Therefore I believe my legs will fit under my desk... I can’t travel to try the chair but you can return it, but I’d lose money. Like this more than anything else though 😩 wonder if it is suitable
For those who say the Trollberget is slippery, what clothes are you wearing?? Because I went and tested them in store and found the Lidkullen both less comfortable(smaller and less padding) and more slipery than the leather on the Trollberget. After watching this video I thought I wanted the Lidkullen, but after testing in person, it's clear why the Trollberget costs more - also the foot ring is exactly the same width on both! Best is to just go and test for yourself :)

Excellent video to tell me everything I needed to know when deciding whether to buy the LIDKULLEN to replace my hard wooden chair for working from home. So helpful seeing you demonstrate all the different ways you sit on it and move about on it and snappy, no-fuss explanations. The only thing I feel this stool is lacking is wheels to be able to scoot around if needed - would you agree or do you think it's suffice without?
Thanks for the review and info! I really have to invest in a better home desk setup (back paaaaain) but i'm still on a bit of a budget, so this is very useful!
Thanks for the well done review! I was about to purchase an ErgoStool but I think I'm going to pick this up instead. Do you have any task chair recommendations to pair with this?
Thanks for this throrough review. I was desperate to find a budget system for helping use my standing desk more. My goal was to save money for a Capisco chair, but I have an Ikea nearby that could save tons of money.
Hey Bob, glad to help! I've tried the Capisco at my friend's house. It's nicely built but for me I find it lacking in movement. It'll have better support if that's important for you while standing. I'd rather go with the ErgoImpact Lidkullen though.
Great Andrew! I wish the best in your new endeavor, I believe you should sponsor by all these products manufacturers I'm guessing it's matter of time! MARANATHA 👍
Thanks Slick! I'm actually going the same direction as Car Cam Central and not getting any sponsors that I review. Too many conflicts of interest, but I think the opportunities for sponsors are greater.
@@ProductivityTherapy Hi Andrew, I would like to know any great advise as usually on dash cam power supply, need to power overnight parking continuously recording! Thank you!
So the best and safest would be a lithium-iron-phosphate battery. They charge quickly and can hold a charge overnight. They're also safe under high-temperatures and won't combust like lithium-ion cells if they're overloaded or overheated. Thinkware has the cheapest one but they're expensive unfortunately. $250+ There's no other good options for consumers. You can technically buy a smaller 12V lead-acid battery and charge it on the side but most people won't do that. I do not recommend using lithium-ion battery banks, they're cheap, compact but not stable and I wouldn't want one in my car where it could catch on fire and your car along with it.
This is a very good review. What company is the red wobble stool ? Can you do a deep analysis of the just the difference between that and the Ikea Lidkullen. Also I saw the wobble stools have a round seat and some has triangular seat and I want to know if the seat shape of the wobble stool makes any difference. (may be a round one will keep you seated more stable and less fatigue on legs ?) I almost bought a wobble stool, but I saw your review and now I am not sure about it. Thanks
I purchased based on your well done review. I'm glad I tried the chair, but I am returning it. At 5'9, I cannot make chair work to support me standing. It is not tall enough to park my cheeks upon while standing. I have to sit flat on top, why have a standing desk? Any other position, regardless of clothing, and I slide off because the seat is padded and tilts. I don't know the right replacement. Most options try to do dual duty, sit and stand, and I want one that only supports me standing. Thanks for your help along my journey, again, good review, and a good, well-built product for others.
Hey Kirk, this is a super late reply. Yeah, it's not going to be the right fit for everyone. I'm 5'9" and I don't put it all the way up, I sit down on it a bit so the angled is reduced and it's less slippery. Check out my review of the Leanrite: ruclips.net/video/uCvnY7tf8cM/видео.html It's easier to use plus the adjustment range will fit most people on the market. Since doing that review I'm changing my opinion in that the Lidkullen is the easiest stool to use but still requires a lot more work to use it properly.
Great review! Thank you! Do you know what the diameter of the footrest is? I am comparing Lidkullen and Tollberget. For the second one they show it in the online description. For the Lidkullen there are no measurements given. Thank you!!
@@ProductivityTherapy if the foot ring of the Lidkullen is only 40cm then the Trollberget has a wider foot ring diameter. Another youtuber compared the two of them and said the lidkullen’s foot ring is noticeably smaller.
Thanks for this info! I'm hesitant to order from Ikea because they no longer phone customer service lines to correct for delivery mistakes. They only delivered half my order in the fall and I'm out hundreds of dollars :( So... Needless to say I don't totally trust them! BUT this is exactly the type of stool I'm looking for. I was wondering if the foot ring can be adjusted. I'm a shorty with a fixed height standing desk and I like to pop my feet up on a high ring when I sit, but it seems like only the larger standing desk seats have those. Would I need a foot rest, or does this rise up? Thank you!
A really great review with quality production value! One thing I`m curious about: is the 58cm sitting height measured from floor to the top of the cushioning? I ask because I have a Topstar Sitness, where the cushioning seems to go way above the declared sitting height... Thank you!
Maybe in the future. I like it for the price. It's the Flexispot E5 - made by Locktek (ET204 model). In Canada, the retailer PrimeCables sells that same desk too and it's been both popular and reliable so far. I think there's a lot of people talking about standing desks and in order to make a good review I'll need to get into the manufacturing details and order a bunch of desks. I don't have that capability or desire at the moment. Maybe I'll do a roundup of all the reviews and some of the research I've done so far on who's actually making these desks. A "meta-review" of sorts.
Is this a good seat to use at a regular (non standing) desk to improve posture and prevent back pain issues? Just to get get a change from regular office chair a few hours a day for example
I have the chair but have an issue that when I sit on it the height goes down to minimum under my weight, I'm 80kg, which is pretty average. So am thinking my chair might be faulty? If it weren't for this problem I think the chair is perfect with a standing desk.
Could be an issue with the chair. Did you take the cap off the gas piston when you installed it? It could be rubbing against the actuation switch causing it go all the way down when you sit on it.
Hey Edward, glad to help! I don't have a recommendation for a chair, I honestly think it's a much more personal choice and it's good to try them out. I do think a cushioned seat is inferior to mesh. Mesh has better airflow, it won't trap dirt and farts like a fabric seat will.
Productivity Therapy thanks for the reply, they don’t have these available right now due to Covid, I’ve been trying for a few weeks everyday . Which would you recommend outside of lidkullen?
That's the Drop x OLKB Preonic and TADA68. I use the preonic sometimes when on the go, but I prefer the 65% TADA68. I have to get used to the Preonic's layout as I have to memorize a lot more keys.
I think I will in the future. There's a lot of great content on the Aeron, less so on the leap but it's not a chair that makes me super excited. I personally am not a fan of expensive foam chairs as they breathe as well. I'll have to do some research to see if there's some good uses for foam besides "I like it more".
Do you know how much the chair weighs? Strange that Ikea doesn't mntion this on their site. I am tring to compare this with the TROLLBERGET chair, and being able to move it out of the way easily is a huge factor.
The Lidkullen weighs 21.8 pounds with the Trollberget weighing 24 pounds. I believe I had to get those measurements off the Ikea UK website. Each country includes different information.
Hi, I’m on a low budget side so my intended setup is fixed standing desk (no height adjustment) and Ikea Lidkullen. My question is standing (w/o chair) all the time has major impact on my body, beside of tiredness?
Would you be able to provide information on how you set up your standing desk? I have the SAME table top that I have been thinking to convert to a standing desk as opposed to spending $$$ on an autonomous standing desk. Any recommendations would be awesome! Love the video. thank you.
I'm using the Flexispot E05, it's made by a company called Locktek. I honestly haven't done that much research on standing desks to be able to recommend one. There are three main manufacturers in China and most of the companies are selling one of those models. For all the research I've done I'm not confident to recommend one. If you care about warranty spending more money like on the Fully Jarvis will help. I think Wirecutter did a good job with their guide. Hope that helps: www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-standing-desk/
hi Steve, @@stevemathieu3691 so one year in, very good. Downsides: the padding under the stands can be rough on your wooden floor and scratch it so make sure you have extra padding or a carpet; after a whole day, it would be nice to have a backrest but that's not what I purchased it for. Upsides: super sturdy metal framework; cushion is comfortable; it rotates so while sitting fully you can lean left and right back and forwards; highest and lowest levels are great for more elevated diagonal standing and even for working at 90 degrees knees (I use an IKEA electric adjustable desk); you can sit on the edge or fully with you bu**, but if you do, don't rest your forefoot in the foot rest ring as this position is known to quietly strain your knees. Finally, I strongly suggest (cause we're both tall and it makes a difference anyway) a 15USD guitar adjustable foot rest to diversify your leg rest during the day (brand: Hercules); go for it.
hi, I work long long hours and standing up all day is not possible for 12+hr day. I'm looking for a good tall chair. I have a tall desk (somewhat non-adjustable, well, without tools) Could you please help?

Do you have any suggestions for laptop risers, for those without monitors? Great video, thanks!
Your video was amazing. I can't wait to see more of your work! (:
Subscribed instantly, very high quality content, keep up the good work!
There's no other good options for consumers. You can technically buy a smaller 12V lead-acid battery and charge it on the side but most people won't do that.
I do not recommend using lithium-ion battery banks, they're cheap, compact but not stable and I wouldn't want one in my car where it could catch on fire and your car along with it.
Great! Other solution will be a compact car battery jumper 🤔
MARANATHA 👍
This is a very good review. What company is the red wobble stool ? Can you do a deep analysis of the just the difference between that and the Ikea Lidkullen. Also I saw the wobble stools have a round seat and some has triangular seat and I want to know if the seat shape of the wobble stool makes any difference. (may be a round one will keep you seated more stable and less fatigue on legs ?)
I almost bought a wobble stool, but I saw your review and now I am not sure about it. Thanks
This was a shockingly good review. Thanks!
Great review mate! I just got mine assembled and i love it!
just the video i was hoping for. thanks.
Glad to help max!
What are your thoughts on the Core Chair Tango? More expensive for sure (a bit less than 600$ CAD).
Are they comfortable for long hours of sitting with little to no standing? Make more vids!!
Did you fully replace the chair for the stool chair? If so, how it's been the experience?
Great review! Thank you! Do you know what the diameter of the footrest is? I am comparing Lidkullen and Tollberget. For the second one they show it in the online description. For the Lidkullen there are no measurements given. Thank you!!
It's 16" or 40.6cm. Hope that helps!
@@ProductivityTherapy if the foot ring of the Lidkullen is only 40cm then the Trollberget has a wider foot ring diameter. Another youtuber compared the two of them and said the lidkullen’s foot ring is noticeably smaller.
You should do some reviews on large and tall chairs! You may need to get a guest star for that one, but I think it would be a well received video.
I definitely will Weese! It's been on my mind that the typical chair review is done by people that are shaped like me.
Hey buddy, what about the NILSERIK model?
Please make a review for the The Ariel QOR360
Thanks for the detailed review, exactly what I need for my new standing desk!
Thank you!
This was really helpful, thanks! But why wouldn't you get a stool-height task chair as the best of both worlds?
A really great review with quality production value!
One thing I`m curious about: is the 58cm sitting height measured from floor to the top of the cushioning?
I ask because I have a Topstar Sitness, where the cushioning seems to go way above the declared sitting height... Thank you!
From the floor to the top of the cushioning (exactly where the bar are aligned is where I measured to/from)
Thanks!
thoughts on the HAG Capisco?
Will you review the desk?
@@ProductivityTherapy Thanks, they replaced the chair and its now working perfectly.
Great video mate, thanks! I think I will give Lidkullen a try...
Honestly it doesn't work for me. I feel like it's designed for heavier people ... the cushion is so firm my but hurts. Is that normal.
Thank you! It’s exactly what I need. Do you have any recommendation for chairs ?
Hey Edward, glad to help! I don't have a recommendation for a chair, I honestly think it's a much more personal choice and it's good to try them out. I do think a cushioned seat is inferior to mesh. Mesh has better airflow, it won't trap dirt and farts like a fabric seat will.
Productivity Therapy thanks for the reply, they don’t have these available right now due to Covid, I’ve been trying for a few weeks everyday . Which would you recommend outside of lidkullen?
Great view! What Keyboard are you using? I'm looking for something with a smaller footprint and this keyboard caught my eye.
That's the Drop x OLKB Preonic and TADA68. I use the preonic sometimes when on the go, but I prefer the 65% TADA68. I have to get used to the Preonic's layout as I have to memorize a lot more keys.
Intelligent, well researched, and efficiently presented. I also learned that twerking is the colloquialism for anterior pelvic tilting.
How do you prevent this from ruining wood floors?
There's a floor mat that's there most of the time. Otherwise keep your floor clean. The rubber feet will protect your floor.
Would love to see a review of the Aeron and Leap
I think I will in the future. There's a lot of great content on the Aeron, less so on the leap but it's not a chair that makes me super excited. I personally am not a fan of expensive foam chairs as they breathe as well. I'll have to do some research to see if there's some good uses for foam besides "I like it more".
What standing desk is that and do you have any input on it?
Do you know how much the chair weighs? Strange that Ikea doesn't mntion this on their site. I am tring to compare this with the TROLLBERGET chair, and being able to move it out of the way easily is a huge factor.
The Lidkullen weighs 21.8 pounds with the Trollberget weighing 24 pounds. I believe I had to get those measurements off the Ikea UK website. Each country includes different information.
Thank you for the review! Excellent and in-depth. Subscribed!
Thank you for the sub!
@@ProductivityTherapy I've now got the Lidkullen at my home workstation, and it's done wonders for my comfort!
Hi, I’m on a low budget side so my intended setup is fixed standing desk (no height adjustment) and Ikea Lidkullen. My question is standing (w/o chair) all the time has major impact on my body, beside of tiredness?
Hi, does the Lidkullen seat squeak at all when you move around?
I really like the tabletop - what kind is it? Cheers
Always awesome review!
Thanks again!
Saw your video > purchased the chair. Thanks! I'm 191cm - hope it'll do the trick anyway.
How did it work out for you? I am 192 cm. Thanks.
hi Steve,
@@stevemathieu3691 so one year in, very good.
Really well made review!
Glad you liked it Nishal!
