Best way to make sure that you're moving frequently with a standing desk is to always make sure your glass of water is full next to you. Not only will you have to move to refill it, but you'll also move when you have to use the restroom and as an added benefit, you stay hydrated!
I used to do that, but then you have to pee all the damn time. Now I just drink a bunch of water after I eat, and then I don't have to pee as frequently (still the same amount of water in the day overall though).
i recently switched to a makeshift standing desk because of my excruciating hip joint. i've noticed SUCH a difference. this is great for people who have a sedentary work lifestyle. i'm working from home these days so i sit 80% of the time and use my standing desk periodically. this switch has helped so much with my tight hip flexors
Your video helped me make the decision to buy a standing desk. After using it for a week, I feel more alert, my neck and back pains are gone and I am more productive. Thank you so much!!!
Been using a standing desk for little over 2 years now. One thing I will note about it is that once you've accustomed to spending so much time on your feet, sitting becomes incredibly uncomfortable. Like at a class lecture or the movie theater.
I never thought these kind of videos would be anything other than tedious, but you guys are really fun to watch. I came across your channel when I got some TMJ related tinnitis for facial massage treatments and now I have some vertigo, which I'm going to try the Epley maneuever as you guys explain it. Thanks!
I have TMJ too, and I tried using a mouth guard at night to stop myself from grinding my teeth. It cured my vertigo after 2 months. Haven't had it for a year now. Might be worth a try. Xx
I've used a standing desk paired with an anti-fatigue floor mat for about two years, and things are going well. I rarely sit, but I do frequently leave my desk to talk with co-workers. I have no back pain anywhere, but I'm pretty good about thoracic spine and low back exercises, and I think of the standing desk as just one tool in the box.
the intro is amazing. love you guys you are so great hhhaaaa and thanks for the info! im just getting situated with my new stand up desk. you two crack me up. jus the fun back n forth is perfect
Liked the video very much it really enhanced my knowledge regarding what is the benefit and avoid so many health problems while using standing table.. Well explained though some example of great personalities of the world who followed this.
NOTE: This product works exactly as described. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxguEIMc_Qwab-3QMTpF6jaRL80hiOOsIN It originally earned a four-star review due to a minor defect (see below). However, the manufacturer's customer service rep (Lita) went above and beyond the call of duty and deserves five stars now. I wish I could give even more!I purchased this item which arrived quickly. Assembly instructions were easy to follow. There was only one problem: One bolt did not screw into the hole properly. I called the company. Their customer service rep (Lita) was terrific! She took all my information and submitted a request to replace the defective part. I'm hoping to finish assembly and start using this treadmill soon. (Fingers crossed...)FOLLOW UP: Lita called back to inform me that the company will send a replacement part AND a technician(!!) to install it properly. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Thank you!!
friends. do lots of stretching without moving any parts of body. just sit or stand still and deep breathing while putting some weigh on the belly area comfortably and hold the breath long as possible via nasal pathways and breath out with mouth heavily. do that exercise b4 sleep at least 30 min a day whether you work sitting or standing. make a habit of it. you will be glad after few months. repetiton everyday. eat lots of vegetables and adequate amount of fruits drink lots of water and minimize the amount of meat. these doctors are awesome.thank you
One thing I found useful was to constantly drink water. Bathroom breaks would force me to walk away from my standing desk every 40-60 minutes. As the video says, you don't want to be standing in place for hours on end.
I just switched to a makeshift standing desk. Before the pandemic I always stood for work, as an educator and restaurant manager. But now all my work is online. Sitting all the time was making me lazy, so I'm glad to make the switch.
I used to give out free samples at a grocery store. We had to stand 6 hours a day in an 2' square with a 30 minute rest. My back would spasm. I bought and used a gel mat, but the firm took them away. No stools. Sometimes had to do 2 consecutive shifts. I was thrilled to get my "sit down" office job.
I have that exact desk convertor! I've had it for the last 3 years and it's one of the best investments I've ever made. Prior to getting it I was sitting at my desk for 8+ hours a day and had terrible posture, with chronic shoulder and neck pain. That's all been resolved after switching to a standing desk and standing 70-80% of my working day. I just wish I'd done it 10 years earlier. Oh and be sure to get an anti-fatigue mat as well. Your feet will thank you.
I ordered a sit and stand desk in 2021. It was in my wish list for some time. Ironically I had a severe back spasm just before ordering the desk. Funny world.
I have the varidesk and it is difficult to bring up the desk I have two monitors on the desk, so when I have to raise it I’m scared to pull my back and also my forearm muscles. I have to lean over the desk to grab the side levers that are too far back. I wish the varidesk was made like the one you show. Definitely a plus to have a stand up desk!!
My boss bought this for me and a few other coworkers. I find that I snack less while standing which is good for my waistline. I need it since I gained 10 lbs moving to an office job-yuck.
Does anybody know if this helps the hips as well? In the past year I've had some hip impingement I think, and I feel like sitting a lot has been one of the reasons for that.
I worked in restaurants for 16 years (6-8 hours of standing and light cardio to slightly more intense during rushes) and never had anything except tension in my shins and a stiff Achilles tendon after work. I started a desk job and within 4 months had serious lower back tension and spinal stiffness. The standing desk saved me. If you want to kick it up a notch? get an under desk treadmill😉
I’d love if you could do a video on walking desks too. One of your other videos says walking slowly is not good so that has me wondering. Thanks and I love your videos.
Ive been using a stand uo desk for months now...but lve lost feeling in part of my left foot weirdly...so l think its GREAT ..it is healthier...but l think fir every 20 mins standing maybe a few mins sitting is also needed...to take pressure off feet.
I use a drafting table with an adjustable bar stool so when I sit my head/arms are still at the same height as standing, so no need to adjust my desk height.
Also the hamstrings should be less tight, relative to only sitting all the time. Plus it's easier to put some stretch on the hamstrings when standing compared to sitting. Like holding a RDL but with straight legs while leaning on the desk.
I have been using one for two years. My back is constant pain. I now have small iron stains under the skin from burst capillaries. I am ready to go back to sitting.
I've been trying to stand but had terrible heel pain. Then you and others said what to do about it. PF and tibial something nerve pain treatment helped. strengh and stretching and then raising to drain fluid. Super helpful, just about no pain. But the fix for that was to just stand on your toes all day.
yha i decided to do standing mode when going on my comupter as i feel like i lost my balance or don't feel like i'm straight cause i've been sitting down for to long at my desk to watch youtube or i guess i can also say hip joint. If you don't have one of these what i do is just stack books i don't read onto my pc monitor and just use that.
subconsciously i was expecting them to sit down till like 2 min into the video..then i realised that would just defeat the purpose of the video and that is what they r advocating against...shows how much we r used to seeing people sit down
These are nice I been looking all over and these are the first that ergonomically addresses the keyboard and monitor heigh. Some of the desk out there look so uncomfortable the keyboard sits on the desktop with the monitor if you raise the desk so monitor is eye level then the keyboard is to high and awkward. TY for sharing
What do you suggest as the best way to consistently keep lower body moving while standing... Balance board or pads that give natural opportunity to move without needing to think about it?
For me, my Osteopath identified that I was suffering from poor posture in the cervical area. What puzzled me was why I didn't feel any pain but I have experienced severe dizziness and balance problems. Can it be possible that poor posture from sitting at a workstation using a computer can wreak havoc with your proprioceptors?
Hi guys! I am trying to use stand up desk, but feels like my knees are against this idea. No more than 5 minutes I start feeling them a bit. I am trying to keep a good posture while standing but still.. After having issues with back pain I would want to ruin my knees as well. Please respond.
I use to sit behind a desk all day until I purchased a varidesk. Now I stand all day everyday. Ive have my desk for about 3 years and I can’t imaging going back to a seated position.
Okay. Thought this was going to be cheesy and kindof lame but i'm pleasantly surprised. You guys are pretty entertaining! Keep it up! thanks for the lesson btw:)
Can you guys have a follow-up video about standing at work all day? I stand at my desk literally 10-11 hours a day and do a 30 minute brisk walk at lunch. One of my colleagues said standing for long periods can impair blood flow, leading to blood pooling, varicose veins and swelling in the legs and feet. I did a google and google said these things can also increase the risk of cardiovascular problems. It makes no sense to me. How can standing AND sitting both cause cardiovascular issues?
Ok so I think I know my alternative to this so I dont have to buy a new desk. I'll just stand up for reading / watching and just sit when i need to use my hands. I'll try
Great, funny and entertaining video. Fortunately there are several options to allow you a standing up workday, just like a stand up desk, itself, for example. But you can't always substitute your traditional desk, so a monitor arms or a stand up base are useful. What really matters is to alternate your posture. In NYC, Manhattan Office Design is the place to get the best prices in stand up devices, like the Humanscale Quickstand or the Monitor Arms, by Humanscale Furniture.
At first I wanted a standing desk because I work at home with my 10 month old. But I realized I use more leg muscle getting up and down from my desk to run after him. If m I’m standing all the time I would be bending more because he would hold into my legs and want to be picked up.😅
Does this apply to people with flat feet and chronic ankle issues? I feel like that might change the viability of this. I'm not overweight btw. I'm something like Brad but slightly thinner
This is me today. Anyone want to try to answer this. Well...I did watch their ankle strengthening videos. I think we would need to make sure to take care of the ankles and work on losing weight. We probably need to take a break to massage feet or ice ankle etc. But overtime these little changes should help our ankles out a lot.
So.... what happens in 6 months? I head a lot of bad things with sitting but not a time frame of specific change with standing. (But I was distracted, maybe I missed it?)

i expected this to end as a joke about tipping the glass of water over when raising or lowering the desk
I used to do that, but then you have to pee all the damn time. Now I just drink a bunch of water after I eat, and then I don't have to pee as frequently (still the same amount of water in the day overall though).
Your intro gets me every time 😂

It’s the ultimate dad intro🤣
Omg what's the name of this character in your little picture? He used to annoy the hell out of me!

Hope that happens to me, Do you feel any pain?
@Ricky Bru @They Live get an anti-fatigue mat, you won't get feet/knee pain
Standing desks you can add a high chair and sit periodically for short periods to take a break from the standing but stand for most of the day
@Ricky Bru You stand up working for 8 hours? I'm suffering from terrible pain all over my body. I started using stand up desks now.
been working standup for the past 16 months. Best thing ever. I stand for 20 and then sit back 4 minutes. Keeps me FLOWiNG
I’ve had my standing desk for about a half a year now! I absolutely love it!
Even if you can't afford a desk, you can do this. At work we'll use copier paper boxes or those $7 tables from Ikea to make our own standing desks.
I have this desk and love it! It relieved my sciatic nerve pain by 90%.
You guys are the BEST! Hilarious and informative- smart AND silly. Bob AND Brad!
You guys are hilarious and informative. Great content! Thanks for reviewing
Bob and Brad. You guys are awesome. Thank you! 🙂
I purchased a standing desk now that I've been teleworking. I love it.

shanita I just lay in bed all day
I have a standing desk at work that goes low enough to kneel. It is a nice change from standing without sitting
Had a pilonidal cyst surgically removed a year ago and have never considered a standing desk until now. After watching this video i think I’m sold 👍

what about an Honest-Desk??
You can do it on the bed like my setup. (back against the wall) but I'm iffy about setting a laptop on static. (bed covers) so I just got a wall desk.
