I love this song. I was 5 and when my dad picked me up on the weekends this song somehow was on the radio in his car. I think of him when i hear it. Im glad you two reacted to this song.
Definitely one of their more upbeat songs which is something you don't always associate them with. But it does show just how versatile they are and especially guitarist Mark Knopfler. It was about this time that he worked with Bob Dylan of all people - just as he was going through his religious phase! It gets overlooked because of that but his playing and production for Dylan is really great.
The reason it sounds happy is because it was the 20th Century, and 20 years before RUclips! Before the Dark Times... I would recommend Private Investigations or Brothers In Arms next.
@@66edoug Hello there! We are doing fine! I remember wanting to just move around fast to this song. Little bit slower getting around these days yet it still serves its purpose to make you feel good! Hope you have a great weekend!😊
Now u gotta go listen to this live .. it's ok since you've heard it already now. We'll let you😉 Gotta agree with Lare on this one ... the need to watch live is essential with Dire Straits .. not to mention the awkward way he "thumbs" his strings rather than "pic the guitar" .. 👌🏼 Interesting to see that uniqueness about Mr. Knopfler. Of course he has swag to boot .. smooth kinda chillaxing performer who's smile lights up the stage. Y'all enjoy the day. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY LARE❣️😁☮️
This and Money for Nothing were big radio songs when they came out. I defer to older Dire Straits for their very best tunes. Especially off of “Making Movies” Such a solid album.
Walk of Life comes from the Brothers in Arms album, and was the very first CD I ever bought. It was also one of my last on vinyl. I was surprised at the sounds that still can't be heard on vinyl. I had a powerful amp, Shure V 15 Mark III and Mark IV cartridges. So my equipment was very good. The grating of the stylus has to be filtered out on vinyl and that is why certain sounds can't be heard. Not only that but picking tracks remains a delicate issue with vinyl. Vinyl is a con. The records now cost much more than the CDS and just don't have the quality nor the lifespan. They are only good for the images that might be on the covers. Serious music deserves the best quality and that is CD. Vinyl is not for serious music lovers. Thanks for the rant. 🤪
Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler did an album together. I recommend the video "This Is Us" , a great performance, the band and the production is superb. peace.

Too bad you didn't do the official video. It's perfectly matched to this song.

By the way there's a Mark Knopfler's tune called "Father and Son". Check it out if you will.

I wouldn't call myself a big fan of the band, but I've always loved this and, money for nothing.
Please give it a listen
I think Gary Moore's live rendition of "Parisienne Walkways" from 2010 is really beautiful and better than the studio version.
I Want my MTV! Unfortunately they were way ahead of their time! 😆
Having Sting play and sing on the track would have made it better.
My view is, you should always watch studio then live with Dire Straits.
