Chiquitita is a rare moment in music history where every listener is taken on a emotional journey that is totally universal. Everybody around the world understands and feels it. Therefore it is a true masterpiece!
I think a lot of people feel the same as Larry about many Abba songs: "it's not the sort of thing I would normally listen to, but this is good on so many levels!".

A monster hit in Mexico and South America. ABBA did an entire Spanish language album because of the success. What is a little unusual about this song is the vocal arrangement. ABBA were known for their close harmony singing and in some of the biggest hits like 'Dancing Queen' and 'Mamma Mia' the two voices are virtually as one. On this song, they obviously made an artistic decision to have Agnetha and Frida singing a little apart. You can definitely hear each voice and one or the other is more prominent on certain words or phrases. These guys and gals were superb musicians and an awesome combination.
I'm an out and out rocker....but I have to say......how can you not get into ABBA😮....top tunes,Brilliantly composed.... top "pop" music......and back in the day the two lady members were eye candy 😂
"how can you not get into ABBA"??? The issue for me might be more with the radio than it is actually with Abba. It was when the Corrs began to rise to fame that I totally stopped listening to the radio. Radio stations know how to kill things simply by playing things to death. That's how you can get out of ABBA. Perhaps if I were to hear an ABBA song not aired on the radio I could like it. Radio stations tend to stick with what they know is a safe area - tunes instantly likeable. That tends to mean no real depth to the music and with 2 1/2p lyrics. Paul Mccartney once stated that writing love songs was the easiest thing to do. That's why most songs have a very short life. Had I have continued listening to the radio, I probably would not like the Corrs today. ABBA were about long before I stopped listening to the radio.
@@markferrett700 are you always a hot head? Because what did i actually state? I effectively stated that if i heard something not done to death I might like it. They like to just splash in puddles and not have a proper swim.

Interesting. I never thought you would enjoy this song as much as you did since it has a more of a folk style to it. Since you mention enjoying 80s music they do have a couple songs which, in my opinion, served as a great foundation to the overall 80s sound that everybody used. After all, ABBA has inspired many artists throughout the years. These songs are: “Under Attack”, “One Of Us”, “Me and I” and “Super Trouper”. Yeah, ABBA always seemed to get stuck (at least here in the USA) into that weird category of "band everyone secretly liked but wouldn't *admit* to liking", because liking their stuff was somehow 'uncool' for reasons that were never really specified. But they sure sold an awful lot of records for a band no one would admit to liking or listening to. :-)
@@ballyastrocade5672 Possible reason for hiding the Abba love? They represented the vulnerable , soft side of a human soul. And we usually tend to hide this.Just saying...
Then you haven't heard them sing 'move on.' Just subscribed in the hope that you will go deeper into the rabbit hole of Abba... which will take some time, but truly worth it.
Please react to Eagle, the long album version. Very different from this one, but absolutely fantastic. Also great for listening while driving around. Yes, they were offered a billion dollars, which by my standards is still a lot of money. One of the reasons why they said they didn`t tour much, was the they needed to have so many musicians and stuff to go around, like a couple of violins, two sets of drums and a lot of everything, to be able to create the Abba sound which has so many layers and instruments. The live version of this song and Does your mother know/Hole in your soul from Wembley arena 1979 is absolutely fantastic. It`s the purest form of Abba magic. Their discography is so full of hits and hidden gems, including songs of many different genres, I highly recommend for you to take that journey and get to know about them more than just the biggest hits.
Keep going down the rabbit hole. Try Knowing Me Knowing You. They did reunite and put out a new album called Voyage in 2021 and appear in their own purpose built Arena in London in ABBAtar(Avatar) form. Check out two of their songs from that album, I Still Have Faith In You and Dont Shut Me Down, amazing.
I love metal, rock etc but since I was a child I've been a huge Abba fan. Their music is just beyond any cathegory and very good live. The problem is that there are not many good recordings live. You can try this ruclips.net/video/-Ty9cYKZ-p4/видео.html Eagle live version in Wembley
Hi guys, just found your channel from algorithms from 25 or 6 to 4. Now ABBA. Have you done Fernando? I was searching something else and wanted to comment in a more recent and wonder about an omission. You’ve done a lot from the 70’s but one major is missing. The Voice. Karen Carpenter, Carpenters. The brother (Richard) and sister duo, the biggest act of the 70’s. A rabbit hole for sure. Sadly a limited amount but still a lot to experience. I’m going to link a personal video that pretty much has all the elements of their sound and features. The musicality, the unusual instruments the vocals. I hope you will give them a try and let the Carpenters Army find you, they will. I’m a proud member in good standing. The song is Rainy Days and Mondays. It’s a personal fave to introduce someone to them. If you play it I’ll certainly comment with more obscure choices, I’ll let the Army do the standards. I love the obscure great songs for special reasons for each. Enjoy! Joe ruclips.net/video/PjFoQxjgbrs/видео.html
Well, as I said in reply to you Ethan, Chick-A-Cheater is probably not even in my top 20 ABBA songs, so I thought I would list my favourite ABBA singles and try and get them into some sort of order or preference, so here goes: 01) S.O.S. 02) Eagle 03) Summer Night City 04) The Visitors 05) Waterloo 06) Mamma Mia 07) Knowing You, Knowing Me 08) Lay All Your Love On Me 09) The Winner Takes It All 10) The Day Before You Came 11) Does Your Mother Know 12) Money, Money, Money 13) The Name Of The Game 14) Fernando 15) Thank You For The Music 16) On And On And On 17) I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do 18) One Of Us 19) I Have A Dream 20) Take A Chance On Me So my guess was right, Chiquitita might make it at number 21 on my ABBA chart after scoring #2 in Sweden, #2 in the UK and #29 in the USA in 1979. Chiquitita means "little girl" in Spanish and I always thought she was Fernando's little sister because the songs have a similar vibe. Great to hear you want more ABBA, so pick any of my top 10 or 20 and you're probably guaranteed a hit that will tickle your eardrums!
I know about 10 of them. Not in my wheelhouse. I went through you list and listened to all of them and these are the songs I recognized - SOS, Waterloo, The Winner Takes it All, Money Money Money, Take A Chance On Me, Knowing Me Knowing You, The Name of the Game, Fernando, I Have A Dream, Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! (not on list)
If you like a more rock sound then you must check out the LIVE version of Does Your Mother Know/Hole In Your Soul from the 1979 wembley concerts here in London. It will show you just how i diverse ABBA can be. The boys were very influneced and grew up listening to the Beatles, Stones and the Beach Boys so their eailer stuff was more pop/rock. But every now and then a more heavy number still crept in. Incidentally they are now in their 70's but rececorded live a load of their songs while wearing 3D image suits. Avatars where then produced of them. At a specialy built arena here in London is a show with a 16 piece live band and backing singers but them singing live through the Avatars. I have seen it and its mind blowing. Chiquitita is one of the songs they did and sounded as good as when i saw them back in 79. They also released a new album and the tracks 'Don't Shut Me Down' and 'I Still Have Faith In You' are amazing. Their vocal are still incredable at their age nothing lost. Small correction 2nd biggest selling band in the world not just Europe.
Your son is too young to get involved in such emotional song. Teenagers prefer pumping or noise songs. Chiquitita is piece or art... and their voices... Mmmm Im glad you like it.
Ik whatcha mean Lare .. but for me today .. guess I'm just not in "the" mood 😉 Not today .. "transitor" & kinda "carnival" sounding to me. If that makes sense. Y'all still my fam tho .. wink wink😉😁
Certainly one of their most popular and well recognised songs but I think they have much better songs, as much as I like this. In no way does it "blow away" Dancing Queen either, not musically, not in harmonies, not in complexity nor layering nor production nor technicality. It is just some people prefer one style of music over another and so see it as "better" You will certainly enjoy ABBA's "Fernando" as well as it is also a little folksy but a perfectly crafted ABBA pop song try "Name of the game"
@@fatherandsonreactions Yes could be, but there is no doubting its quality. as pop/disco song. The first minute of that song is very nice but for me it takes a wrong turn when it erupts. That kills it for me. Aw thanks so much Lightmane! I really appreciate this comment. It would be nice to have more subscribers. Ultimately though, we value quality over quantity, and we feel very lucky that our subscribers and commenters are such great people. -Ethan
@@fatherandsonreactions I totally agree about quality over quantity. Hard to disagree, but if you react to 'Hi Ren' by Ren, you'll get both, as fans of Ren are mostly very nice people, who leave very positive comments, and Ren is also very appreciative of RUclips reactors; something that you don't see in most artists on yt, which is sad. He just thanked all of them in a 5 minute video he put out, in celebrating achieving a million subscribers. I think you'd enjoy watching that too. Some have reacted to it, even though it's not music, but just him giving a 5 minute speech, basically. It's very moving though, so I hope you check it out sometime.
Agree wholeheartedly with ur original comment. I try to do my part by sharing as I've done even on FB. These guys are the best. U know they both have convos about how thankful they r to all us subs as well. I guess u could say many of us are "key pals"😉 too. Maybe if we share their posts more, they may get more subs. 👍🏼👍🏼

Chiquitita was a huge hit in Europe when i was just a lad, way back in early 1979
(i remember it well)
didn't quite get to No 1 in the UK charts though - was held at No 2 for weeks by....Blondie's Heart of Glass! another great record, innit
Love your reactions, Dad & Lad👍
Ethan here are songs that I think Larry would know, probably the same songs as me since I was not into them. These songs - SOS, Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie!, Waterloo, The Winner Takes it All, Money Money Money, Take A Chance On Me, Knowing Me Knowing You, The Name of the Game, Fernando, I Have A Dream.
Wow, I wasn't expecting such a rave review. It's fine. Larry and Ethan enjoying it so much makes it a great video.

Back in 2000 they were offered a billion dollars by a British/American consortium for a world tour consist of more than 100 shows and they turned it down, cause they were already rich and don't need the money. When u have those immaculate back catalogue of albums and songs, your set for life. Royalty pays
Woah a Billion?!? 😳 That’s insane -Ethan
Yes was not an option / frida
So many of my hard rock friends turned out to be clandestine ABBA fans. Myself included hahaha
Pretty good song. ABBA is great.
My favourite ABBA song along with Super Trouper and Me and I. You should react to ABBA singing Super Trouper and Me and I.
Someone has left his bubble. 😁
Now its time for "Take a chance on me.." and "Name of the game" by them.
Time for you to do: Fernando, The Winner Takes It All, Knowing Me Knowing You, SOS, and Take a Chance on Me
❤❤🌷🌷🍺👌 you know what my favorit Abba's song ? Does your mother know 😀

Check out "SOS" by Abba. Pete Townshend calls "SOS" the greatest pop song in history.
Enjoy!
Joe

Well, as I said in reply to you Ethan, Chick-A-Cheater is probably not even in my top 20 ABBA songs, so I thought I would list my favourite ABBA singles and try and get them into some sort of order or preference, so here goes:
01) S.O.S.
02) Eagle
03) Summer Night City
04) The Visitors
05) Waterloo
06) Mamma Mia
07) Knowing You, Knowing Me
08) Lay All Your Love On Me
09) The Winner Takes It All
10) The Day Before You Came
11) Does Your Mother Know
12) Money, Money, Money
13) The Name Of The Game
14) Fernando
15) Thank You For The Music
16) On And On And On
17) I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do
18) One Of Us
19) I Have A Dream
20) Take A Chance On Me
So my guess was right, Chiquitita might make it at number 21 on my ABBA chart after scoring #2 in Sweden, #2 in the UK and #29 in the USA in 1979. Chiquitita means "little girl" in Spanish and I always thought she was Fernando's little sister because the songs have a similar vibe. Great to hear you want more ABBA, so pick any of my top 10 or 20 and you're probably guaranteed a hit that will tickle your eardrums!
Quite a list Dave. ABBA only made 9 albums. Quality over quantity.
@@66edoug - that's most, but not all, of their singles, but they're all quality because they were all superbly produced.

Great song Larry&Ethan got 4 sister so I grow up with ABBA no choice try Sweet blockbuster great band 70sand 80s please guy's.

Certainly one of their most popular and well recognised songs but I think they have much better songs, as much as I like this.
In no way does it "blow away" Dancing Queen either, not musically, not in harmonies, not in complexity nor layering nor production nor technicality.
It is just some people prefer one style of music over another and so see it as "better"
You will certainly enjoy ABBA's "Fernando" as well as it is also a little folksy but a perfectly crafted ABBA pop song try "Name of the game"
Could be just because we’ve heard “Dancing Queen” so so many times so we have gotten way to used to it. -Ethan
@@fatherandsonreactions Yes could be, but there is no doubting its quality. as pop/disco song.
It is probably the most popular song in the world for getting people up dancing at gatherings, and that is really what Disco was about.
I will be interested to see you reaction to future ABBA songs as they are quite often different styles of music even if they always have the ABBA feel.
The first minute of that song is very nice but for me it takes a wrong turn when it erupts. That kills it for me. That said Abba knew very well how to make pop music, but all too frequently were too much in the middle of the road for me. I've never been able to be enthusiastic for ABBA. That isn't intended to imply those who are shouldn't be. Ok if its their scene.
The banana should have sued ABBA over this song. It gives the banana a bad name.
