Can't believe I haven't seen this. It brings back so many memories. Saw the Ramones over 30 times from 79-96. By the 90s they honed their sound so well it was like hearing a full orchestra. Johnny had sounds coming from his Mosrite that no other human could recreate. Joey was barely pronouncing the words anymore but that made it even better. The greatest night was Philly 96 Adios Amigos during a blizzard. It was jam packed at the Electric Factory and it was a sonic moment in time. My ears rang for hours. There will never be another Ramones. No band could fill a room with sound like them. So precise. Like a military style arrangement and total chaos in the crowd. But good chaos. May they all rest in peace.
@@davidschoen4378 Really? How cool. I can't believe I drove in an Isuzu Amigo without 4 wheel drive. It was so scary. But I wasnt going to miss their last show. What a night. We also went to see the opening act, Gren who we thought would be the next Nirvana but the faded fast.
This is an incredible portray of the ramones, excelent. Johnny and joey mastered the technique in the 90s, cj was the turbo charger for the final years, marky didnt progress much tbh, but man thank you great comment
KC native here. Can confirm the Granada sucks like that. Had my camera confiscated trying to get Chris Robinson singing with Gov't Mule. Gave my camera back sans film at the end of the show. 35 years after this, they still suck like that. Great venue otherwise.
My Google news feed recommended this. I saw them in January 1980, my first gig at the age of 14, and over 40 years later this is like being there all over again. Thank you!!!!
In 1978, the Ramones were the greatest live band in the world. I saw them in NYC and around the NYC area many times. But, I have never seen a live performance recorded from that year that captures their essence like this recording... This is a thing of beauty. :)
I didn't know my love for the Ramones could ever grow bigger. Seeing this just sent it into the stratosphere. Absolutely fantastic. If there is a God, God bless the Ramones.
Changing drummers could have seriously f’ed up their chemistry and vibe, but they chose wisely. Marky was absolutely perfect for this band, a total rock.
Saw The Ramones once for their Brain Drain tour and their energy was nuts. The concert felt like it was over before it started because they blew through their set so fast. I think my head is still spinning from that show. LOL
Caught the first show in February 1978 at One Block West and a tour shirt from Dee Dee at Capers Corner the day before, daughter still has it. This brings back many fond memories. Thank you for sharing!
i think the OBW show was in 1976. if u mean the club a block away from KU med center off Rainbow. *was at this one too and i bet there was only 100 people tops.
I'm surprised the sound is so good. The only video cameras I had access to squashed the sound severely when it got anywhere near as loud as a rock show.
Whoa!!!. I,ll just stop you right there Ever saw the original Motorhead line up in the late 70,s ? Or the Ruts or the Dead Boys, I will agree that Ramones were the most unique with the delivery of their set and imo they're only up there with the best live acts from that era
So Lovely, thank you! Esp endearing is the fact it was confiscated. I had something like that happen with me at a Violent Femmes show ca: 1990. I got the tape back, maybe I will post soon. I love the shenanigans at the end minute 🙂
Thanks for sharing! I love Love LOVE, Super8 footage of anything, for a certain grouping of generations and perhaps even those way after, but Hi8 tape (and even MiniDV), but for sure vhs, 16mm and the most with Super 8mm footage like this, but it looks and feel like, memories.
Que show histórico ! Muito bom , bem underground , com microfonia nos microfones e tudo ... Os vi no início da década de 90... no Canecão e no Circo Voador(duas casas de shows lendárias do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). São talentosíssimos ! O show é incrível ao vivo... ! RAMONES FOREVER !
This is fantastic!! Thank you for sharing. I saw The Ramones twice, perhaps in 1990 and again in 1991, and consider that one of the highlights in bands I've seen!
The Ramones kicked ass. I saw them at ASU, SIU, and Chicago all before 1979. They didn’t waste time in between songs with blithering bladder like Mick Jagger. They just got to work and kicked ass
Actually it was on Minnesota St. in Kansas City, KS. It’s still there but is being used for something else. I was there as I shot the film but you are correct in that there is also a Granada Theater in Lawrence.
@@kotumba hey Mark, thanks for this! a true piece of history. are you one of the 2 guys at the end of the tape? what's your story? what are you doing now, and do you still see bands in the KC area?
The music industry dickheads HATED anything to do with punk and basically pretended it didn't exist until Nirvana took off and forced them all to say they really dug it all along

Please send to me as well. I saw them maybe a year earlier in Ocean City Md. Tommy still in the band. Maybe 300 people in attendance at this small club somewhere out around 130st. We were front row. My best friend got a slight kick from John for trying to grab his guitar.
I used an Elmo 1012-S with 200’ film magazines. I had two of them with me but only got to shoot one as I got caught by management. Bootlegging was strictly illegal back in those days.
Why were they so uptight about filming? The film cartridges only recorded 3 and a half minutes. (Unless you were caught switching film carts) I also like the clip at the end. It proves Boomers weren’t much different from us when they were young!
I can see why you would hate everything else after seeing this in person. Perfect.
Lmaooo
That's pretty much what happened to me. Everything else just seems so... Zzzzzz
So true.
god bless the person who recorded this, and also the person who uploaded this. gabba gabba hey

I still have 6 tickets unused, for that blizzard show... i bought them for me and friends, but ate em.

That's some killer footage.
Gabba gabba hey!!
How come I like these guys now more than ever?
IKR??!
If the venue wasn't so insane about stopping bootlegging we would have a full Ramones show from 78! Rules are made to be broken!
Security people would take your camera and destroy history. Don't know what the big deal was.

Pretty amazing audio, considering this was a personal camera. Brings back good memories of seeing them in the 80's. Thanks for sharing!
This is fucking amazing
My thoughts exactly. I can't believe how decent the audio is, all things considered.

Thanks Mina. Those were the days
The Ramones is good stuff, Havana Affair is one of my favorite tunes.
I got to see them several times at the Agora in West Hartford, once at CBGB and at a club in Boston whose name I've forgotten. Crazy high energy.
Wow they played so hard I expected the stage to explode 🔥🚒
Holy smokes 🔥 what a gem!!
Thanks for sharing this after all these years

Mark, I love you guys at the end! The shirts! The make-up! What a couple of Stooges!
I saw them about 6 months earlier at One Block West. Similar show. Epic! Except it was wilder and raining beer.
Love the Ramones! :0)

Wonderful. Too bad the film was not enough to shot the whole gig
He was caught filming by venue security and forced to stop.
Is thier a full vhs tape OS the show July 29 1978
No it was shot on super 8 film
Find it!
it's like there was some malevolent, spiteful force that conspired to prevent them from ever being played on the radio, what the hell?

I doubt this is 78. The Ramones hadn't even recorded I don't care for another year.
