Amazing tips! But instead of the Pomodoro timer I prefer TMetric, it's a regular time tracker. I tried working under the Pomodoro technique, but for deep work, a timer turned out to be more helpful.

It’s nice to hear you say you don’t block out time outside of work for learning and growth. I do some but mostly I dedicate my full energy to work where I’m learning every day!
Exactly! Ideally you have a job that challenges you and provides you with learning and growth opportunities :)
I do schedule time out for "learning" or "reading" during the day but one thing I've found is if you put this at the end of the day it will almost always get bumped for something higher priority that just 'needs' to be finished that day. Putting them first thing, even before checking email, means I will actually do them!

Love these straight up points. Working 9-5 on a screen is already a doozy. I have no desire to practice my skills outside of my work but instead to relax. There, i said it.

Specially the talk about upscaling design skills on the job, as you said sometimes we have the opportunity inside our day job and sometimes we don't. I usually follow similar things as you do, with books and podcasts and that's it so I was thinking if I was doing right or wrong by doing like this but now I feel better haha

So I have this tendency of playing UX design podcasts, live demonstrations, or sessions in the background whilst playing a video game. I tend to also play product design videos in the background whilst doing work. I think since video games are a pass time that takes up a lot of time, having those kinds of live sessions which you'd never commit to sit through and watch till the end (2hours-3Hours) can help you multi-task. I think it also depends on how difficult the game is because if the game demands so much concentration then having those useful tips in the background might not stay in your head.
That's awesome you've found something that works for you! I like to have podcasts on in the background when cooking usually.
yeah I do this all the time, one of my fav activities is just grinding stuff on video games and listening to an educational talk since there's no dialogue to read in the game.
These tips are incredibly useful. I struggle juggling with multiple things as a designer. I will try using these tips. Thank you for making this Femke!

Really amazing content, Femke. A lot of what you said about "the art of saying no" seems to be more targeted at senior designers who have the flexibility of choosing their projects. How about junior folks who may not necessarily have that freedom of choice? As a UX manager, I find that it's difficult for my teammates to be this organized because business needs always changes and we seem to keep running in different directions every time. Any advice?
That sounds frustrating! I'd probably propose some changes in process to avoid biz needs changing again next time.

Hey! Your manager should be able to provide you with the right guidance and opportunities. I'd suggest just mentioning to them that you'd love to have a conversation about your personal growth and discuss what options are available to grow within the company. Good luck!

Thanks for another great video! I have a question, though: in which scenario, working for a company, bring part of a squad/product team could you say no to a project? I didn't quite get that part. Maybe you were talking about a different work setup.
I often say No to things that are last minute or nice-to-have's. Sometimes with those we can get away with not having dedicated design resourcing on it. Or, like I say in the video maybe it's saying No right now, but that you can pick it up in 2 weeks when you have availability.

So weird - I just finished editing up a video about time management as well!
I haven't got as far as doing no-meeting days yet, but I definitely block out my own focus time in calendar meetings where I'm the only attendee. How long have you been doing Pomodoro for? We have a couple of people in the office that use it, but it's never really clicked for me.
Haha funny timing! I've been doing it on and off for about a year or so.
