Beyond fabulous, the wirk you've put into this, thanks! The fleeting glances you get of the Falcon in the movies, doesn't do the studio models justice, but you do! 👍
Watching this is like watching Bob Ross do a painting. You make it look so easy. I could follow exactly what you do and mine would NEVER look this good. The airbrush technique is just fantastic.
Outstanding work. I just finished day one of the belly. Its one of the only models I have had to use every trick in the book. I wish I had found you video sooner as it would have eliminated some mixing.
Super painting/weathering job mate 👍🏼 , Glad to see the detachable ( magnet held ) sidewalls working a treat . Just finished seeing your Pt .15 video.....again , well done and thanks !
Hi, just want to thanks you for your videos. I'm looking your work since a long time ago, and then I just realized you will be my "inspiration model" for the Falcon. Yeah, I've just did the cockpit and some of the hull, but I'm scared like a kid for doing the rest. It's like I'm playing with my life ! :( So the more I look your videos and the more I want to continue my built. This will never be as good as you but I think if we have some inspiration, it becomes easier. Thanks again, for your amazing work and sharing ! May the force be with you.
Hi Chris, really you made me my day, I feel like a kid in a candy store looking all the miniature SW scale they have, again thank you very much for share this tips I appreciate it so much - if I can do something for you please let me know, regards.
I keep thinking Nicholas Cage is teaching me modeling tricks. Ha Hah"Your lighting is awesome Mr. Olsen. I'll have to check out the blog for the details on which blinker and LEDs you used for the cockpit. Those too under the belt shade turned out excellent. Not too bright, just right.
I can see you mention some colors in your youtube. A list of of colors used would be interesting. Right now I do have on my list: Tamiya XF64, XF53, XF3, XF7, AS20 & TS80 Spray. Anymore paints needed/ recommended? Thank you so much and thumb up.
That is pretty much the main colors I used, along with Tamiya XF-1 black and Tamiya XF-63 German Gray. I did also use Tamiya clear red, yellow, blue and green for the back lighting of the photo etch cockpit rear wall and gunner walls. I also used a variety of Tamiya Pastels for streaks and dirt around the ship. www.amazon.com/TAMIYA-Weathering-Master-6-Sets-Japan/dp/B00M66FM86/ref=sr_1_1?crid=MIYKOBSRAJY9&keywords=tamiya+weathering+pastels&qid=1693863856&s=toys-and-games&sprefix=tamiya+weathering+pastels%2Ctoys-and-games%2C151&sr=1-1
I know it’s been a while but I hope can remember what color you use for the rear exhaust vents and stains on the back, also the airbrushed weathering streaking around the falcon? Thank you for the videos they have been greatly appreciated.
For my exhaust and streaks around the Falcon, I used Tamiya German Gray. That's typically my go to paint for dark areas of vehicles. I don't like using black, because it usually tends to be to dark and pops too much. I find that German gray tends to look more natural, but still gives a dark blackish appearance. And I try not to spray to heavy.
I'm trying to find the video you made, that used a shapways door for the cockpit, cannot find it anywhere, I know make a lot of videos, but do you recall which one that was in
Thks Chris, I really appreciate your feedback and your work as well, and what kind of glue you recommend me to use and where did you get the 6 fan motor you used and the inside play room oil bottles - sorry if I bother you with all these questions but I have not all your expertice and experience, thks.
I just use Loctite super glue. The exhaust fans and oil drums and such I bought on shapeways.com. if you search deago falcon on there, there's lots of 3rd party parts you can buy. The fan grills are from paragrafix.biz
Thank you very much! I just pulled the trigger on two cans of Tamiya Light Grey primer on Amazon. Also, thank you so very much for all the hard work you socked into putting these videos together - I've been poring over them for 2 days now, taking notes for my own DeAgo Falcon build that I'm about to start. You did a truly incredible job here, AND on your Falcon!
Hi Chris, I hope your are doing well Can you support me to know how to paint the millennium falcon, what kind of paint you use, etc..... Pls I will appreciate it so much.
Everything I used was Tamiya. Tamiya primer, then AS-20 Insignia White for the body color. Tamiya medium gray for the gray panels. I mixed my own yellow, with flat yellow and either red brown or black. The red was done with red brown airbrushed over medium gray.
The Bandai PG 1:72 is the most accurate model of the Falcon every commercially made. It's more accurate and faithful to the five foot model than the DeAgo is to the 32" model.
The perfect grade from what I've seen, far surpasses the DeAgostini in accurateness and greebs but thats just how the 5 footer was in actuality. ANH was just more highly detailed and just more put into it the 1st time around. The weathering and the fine detail was vastly more apparent/realistic than the 32" and not just because it was bigger. I have half the order now and when I do start to build it, it will be a hybrid of both with the bent hull panels edges to the realistic 3D looking blast holes. I'm gonna shave down the end edges of the hull to appear thin as in ANH. I also noticed that the ANH had deeper side panel insets compared to the 32" which I will attempt to do close to a 1/4 inch deeper. Thats how good the Perfect grade is because it already comes like that out of the box.
@@fearofthedark666 not at all, it’s supposed to be an exact copy of the ILM miniature, you wouldn’t pay that much money for this if you just wanted a Hasbro ‘look-alike’. In fact the author here added details so,it became a hybrid 32”/5 foot replica, why? That said, the work here is great but it, in no way, matches the paint techniques and results of the ILM model shop. For example using a straight edge and blasting with an airbrush makes the ‘laser streaks’ look clumsy and like over-spray. Please don’t crudely judge people by their factual observations, it makes you look an asshole.

beautiful and it will be a great help for me, just beginning with the millennium falcon greetings Pieter

Great Stuff! But has anyone said you sound like Brent Spiner?
Enjoying this Immensely!

You shoulda got a used IKEA GALANT desk which they dont make anymore but they can be found on Craigslist and are height adjustable.

Christopher Olson Thank you! I’ll definitely take your advice and lay off the black.
wow i didn't realized how big that model is , who are the 8 geniuses who dislike the video
very nice ! where did you find the fiber optic 0.25 color plz ?
I get them on Ebay from a seller named ME80. Really good guy.
@@modelsbychris thank you i ve found him ;)
Hey Chris good work mate
Did you at any stage apply clear coats during your build?
If so when and what type of finishes/brand?
Thanks
I actually did not do any clear coats. I just applied my washes and weathering directly to my base paint. I sealed it all with a flat coat however
love watching the process!! what rattle can primer did you use if i may ask
I used the Tamiya fine surface primer.
I'm trying to find the video you made, that used a shapways door for the cockpit, cannot find it anywhere, I know make a lot of videos, but do you recall which one that was in
That would be my Pt 13 mods video. It's around the 2 min. mark. Though I don't have a whole lot to show what I did there.
I appreciate it
Would this falcon be in scale for the 3 3/4 inch star wars figures?
They'd be too big. This Falcon would be roughly a 1:47 scale
hi you had use which color for interior reliefs for radar and impact holes
I used Tamiya German gray. I try to stay away from black because it's typically too dark.
ok it's true that it makes a lighter than black you can dilute it with water
@@mejinvegeta2040 black is still black when diluted. Once dried, it leaves black.
Christopher Olson ok thanks for your help
Hey Chris. Where did you buy the lcd and media player for the table?
The media player is a k-world i bought on EBay. The monitor i also got on Ebay. It's a car dash monitor. Did that because it folds up inside

Dumb question - what primer did you use for the hull?
I used Tamiya fine gray primer

What red did you use...
I used Tamiya flat red with a bit of Tamiya red brown lightly airbrushed over Tamiya medium gray

This kit is soo detailed!!!!!! I wonder how the Bandai Perfect Grade will be...
It looks like a beautiful kit. It's less than half the size of this Falcon. But it should be the most detailed closest model next to the DeAgostini.
The Bandai PG 1:72 is the most accurate model of the Falcon every commercially made. It's more accurate and faithful to the five foot model than the DeAgo is to the 32" model.

02:20 why put 5 foot miniature details randomly on the ESB version❓Turning an accurate replica into a hybrid non-representative version 🤪
Because it's my artistic license. I just wanted a tad more detail.
Hey Chris. I have a falcon I'm working on. Wondering if you wouldn't mind painting mine? Please contact me
Wondering ,how much money can cost if he decide sell this model...
Is hard to put a price , but is not going to be cheap...haha
I wouldn't sell for less than $10,000. But I have no desire to sell it.
sooooo, how much will this cost me?????
Yea, I don't think I'd sell it for less than about $10,000.
Christopher Olson Beautiful work!!! If I purchased the kit to build myself, what would that cost?
The kit alone is about $1500. I put another $600 or so into it with lighting, photo etch, custom built styrene parts, paints, etc.
Exhaust staining from the rear vents is too heavy handed. Check your references. The ILM model never had dark weathering like this.
