At the FREE Winnetka Music Festival in June 2018. Can't remember what the first song was, but i distinctly remember Turmoil..... The entire set blew me away and i've been hooked ever since. BTW, i heard OF him for a while before that festival as a friend was familiar with his music... When i saw he was playing the fest (about 10-15 minutes from my house), i told that friend we gotta go!
Hate to say it, but this is the Billy Strings I enjoyed the most. Now we have a Grateful Dead Pothead. No offense Billy, but you went from Bluegrass, to Dope Grass....
@@MortandHarley Completely agree. I first experienced Billy in videos of this period and was immediately hooked. His talent was so obvious and his sunny disposition was always front and center. The more I knew about him and from whence he'd come, the more I admired his ability to succeed and, seemingly, without resentment of what he'd experienced. He's in heady times right now and I hope he can stay centered so we can enjoy his marvelous music for many years to come.
First time I heard him was 6 years ago, it was dust in a baggie and I’ve never heard anyone do with an acoustic guitar, what he can do, there’s lightning in them fingers, lord have mercy !!!
Had the great pleasure of seeing this duo multiple times. They camped in a Chrysler minivan right next to my fifth wheel one time at a bluegrass festival in Lowell Michigan. I really loved those days. Where did I first hear Billy? At that same festival years before with his dad Terry Barber. I remember turning to my wife one day and said, this kid is going places. boy that was an understatement.
Billy Strings, Don Julian and George Gershwin. Deeply authentic rendition with Billy's great guitar and voice. Thanks Billy and Don. American music at it's best.
Absolutely incredible, got to see him twice last year. Seems he's still improving which is insane because he's incredible here as well. Our generations doc, Tony or Norman. And a stunning voice to boot! Thank you for sharing this gem.
We just still love your music!!! Amazing! Keep it up.. you need to be signed by the biggest label out there! Our Son can play like you, but has 4 kids and won’t anymore.
Kid your amazing. Don't understand why you haven't hit it big yet. The way you play and your voice. You got what it takes. Your like the older generation. You feel the music. You don't see that much anymore. Keep trying and if your just doing this as a hubby. You need to really think about taking it farther
Next to the Harry Manx version this may be my favorite version of this song. If you haven't heard the Harry Manx version do yourself a favor and check it out too!
I love how billy has that just got out of prison look.....the prison of a bad life....what gives him the ability to be able to sing the blues .....and the fact that the good times were ahead...a lucky survivor of a shitty start to life....show that life is what u make of it .. and if beaitiful soulful music is the byproduct....lucky for us....keep on plucking billy.... boywonder
Hey there, I am producer for CBS NEWS. We interviewed Billy for a piece on him for CBS Sunday Morning. I wanted to inquire about using some of the videos I've seen on this channel to help tell his story. Let me know if you have time to chat on this thanks!
This video gives some strong vibes. Hard to explain. Just the house they are in, not the playing itself. It seems miss matched. A old setting but with some timeless playing. They are too good
Back when Billy understood Bluegrass, and it's deep roots.....Now we have a Grateful Dead Pothead...Hope and Pray he finds his way back to the land of Bill Monroe, and Flatt and Scruggs...
Where did you first hear Billy Strings and what song was it?

Red rocks- Away from the mire
@@rambointhewild9438 That's always been a favorite of mine. Hearing it at Red Rocks is hard to beat!
Preacher and the bear on your channel. Blew my mind. Now I'm obsessed.
I love Don and Billy together. So simple and the instrumentals and Billy's voice shine because there's no other noise to distract. Pure heaven!
Yeah

@@tanyaraven9492 bela was the same. He'll get bored of jammy prog eventually
@@cfcolly That's encouraging news. Just to clarify, I still enjoy Billy Strings' work immensely, just prefer his earlier work.
First time I heard him was 6 years ago, it was dust in a baggie and I’ve never heard anyone do with an acoustic guitar, what he can do, there’s lightning in them fingers, lord have mercy !!!
lord have mercy!
You need to listen to Tony Rice. He died a few years ago. This young man is phenomenal, but Tony Rice could have taught him a few things.
Everyone who grew up in the 80's had that exact couch. Don't even try to lie!! lol. I love these older uploads. Awesome stuff.
Been watching Billy for years. Give em hell Billy

Sitting in the living room with the video camera on, and this falls out of heaven.
I still love the Marcus king and Billy string's rendition . But I do love when BILLY & Don play together.
MEMORIES OF THOSE SMALLER INTIMATE SHOWS.
This is.. unbelievable. When you see how it’s made right in front of your eyes it’s hard to believe. Truly exceptional
Absolutely beautiful so incredible so talented amazing thanku so much love an God bless always from Cyprus x x x
Billy keeps the young gents interested in Bluegrass music Yeah !!
Billy Strings, Don Julian and George Gershwin. Deeply authentic rendition with Billy's great guitar and voice. Thanks Billy and Don. American music at it's best.
Billy did some of his best work with Don Julin.
I don't understand how this still hasn't broken 100K views. Incredible rendition from a generational talent.
Thanks again, Lower Standards.
I sure could go for something cold to drink about now.
It's a hot one today.
AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah. Probably my favorite version of this song.
Super! Ich werde meine Gitarre wieder entstauben. Danke!
Dang this is an old video, back when people didn’t know that Billy would be taking over the world 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Whoever runs this channel knew it apparently....been sitting on video after video of killer content

@@pamcm1098 lucky! You've got that right though, I can't wait to see what genius is yet to come.
Saw doc and mearle in their prime, nothing like this. Much better.
So looking forward seeing you at Frost Ampitheatre end of September in California!
This is so great! Sound quality is awesome and the video too. Please keep em coming LS!
We just still love your music!!! Amazing! Keep it up.. you need to be signed by the biggest label out there! Our Son can play like you, but has 4 kids and won’t anymore.
Looks at this old gold. Beautiful stuff. Living in the moment is great, but also saving that moment for mass enjoyment for later is great as well!
Sounds great keep it up

Nothing beats his version with Marcus King. Pure gold!
Billy Strings meets George Gershwin. Magical.
No words from bon just speaking thew the mandolin
I know Bill has his own crew but I would love for Don to pop onto tour with him from time to time.
Sweet!!

Love it
Dust in a baggie first and today is when I first heard it I think.this shit is fucking amazing I have a new favorite musician
I would have loved to hear an acoustic bass for support when Billy soloed but other than that these guys are pros👍👍👍
Nice!
I liked Kat Edmonson, and Billie Holiday too 🙉😆🙉

Start of Pandemic and Dust in a Baggie on RUclips. Seen him twice this year in Atlanta!
Why did Billy and Don stop touring together?
whos house are they in?
Summertime???🙂

What kind of guitar is Billy playing?
Billy as a kid
This video gives some strong vibes. Hard to explain. Just the house they are in, not the playing itself. It seems miss matched. A old setting but with some timeless playing. They are too good
summer time?
Yeah,,, and Doc Watson played all that and more,,,, all by his damn self! WITH NO EYES!!!!
😁😁😁
I can’t play a radio 😢
Nobody can. Damn shame what you won't find there.
If you could play this yourself or could listen to this regularly would you need a radio?
The pattern on the couches? WTF?
Love seeing Billy lost in the music....
long ways from the microtones. lol, hi Don
Nicer couch than Dust in a Baggie
pre-tattoo billy! lol
Janis would be proud.
Back when Billy understood Bluegrass, and it's deep roots.....Now we have a Grateful Dead Pothead...Hope and Pray he finds his way back to the land of Bill Monroe, and Flatt and Scruggs...
I feel like the mandolin takes away from his performance
Is Billy Strings related to Kyle Rittenhouse? They look like siblings.
Kyle Rittenhouse jamming with Julin. Pretty bad ass!
Ah, you beat me to it! 😂
This dude's not even 20 years old
