When my Mom was in school, her Home Ec teacher said they would be making French Toast the next day. Mom was so excited ... til they actually started making it. They had it at home all the time. They just called it "fried bread." Mom was born in 1920 & lived to celebrate her 91st birthday.
Tom, may I suggest that you try stirring your cinnamon and nutmeg into the flour before adding the flour. I found that it helps with mixing them tigether helps with incorporating the seasoning.
My husband loves French Toast and as often as I’ve tried, I just can’t get it right. I watched your video last night and made it for breakfast today. It came out wonderfully! Thank you ever so much. I’ve made a few of your recipes by now and they always come out so well!
I'm not a huge French Toast fan, but I'll eat it from time to time. I'd definitely eat this. Thank you for reminding us that God loves us. It's important.
Yum,I use my emerggen blender to mix the batter. So delicious. I also use FLA order cofee creamer for special times. This weekend will be pumpkin spice!
Oh my goodness!! That's how I've been making French toast for years (including the flour), and as soon as Sara Lee came out with the Artisano Brioche, I switched to that bread. Sometimes instead of milk, I use Bailey's Irish cream 🤭. For the topping, instead of syrup, I'll whip some cream with a little Bailey's Irish cream in it, put fresh fruit on the French toast with a dollop of whipped cream.
Other than my mother (and of course me) you are the only other person that uses nutmeg. This is so much like my mother made and she taught me. My brother even asked a year or two ago asked me what mom's recipe was, and this is what I told him. We would top it off with homemade maple syrup. Thank you. My mom passed away a few years ago and this brought a smile to my face. Again, thank you.
French toast is a great staple and family favorite. I do like it sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, but my dear daddy sprinkled salt and pepper and folded his French toast in half and ate it like a sandwich. It always made me laugh, he called it eggy bread. Ahhh, fond memories of bygone times. Thanks for your outtro, Tom, we love you and Melissa as well and Jesus loves us all so much more Amen! God bless you both, great video as always! ❤
😋. This is one of my favorite foods . Breakfast, lunch or supper. Thanks for reminding me.. I know what Sunday brunch will be. God bless you two special people. 🙏🏻
My husband LOVES French Toast. He picks restaurants that serve breakfast all day so he can have it almost every time we go out to eat! Not always French Toast but all different breakfast choices. I fix French Toast A LOT for dinner! I have never seen a recipe that adds flour. I will definitely try this next time I make it. Thanks for the tip!
Hey Tom. Love the recipe. I love them Cadillac's. Had a Cadillac since I first began to drive when I was 18. I'm now 36 and still having Cadillac's. I now own a 1970 Cadillac Deville Convertible that I'm currently working on. It's going to look really nice once it's done. Hope you and Melissa are doing well today. Your one of the coolest on RUclips Tom. Love all your shows on RUclips. I'm always looking towards your next video post. Your great 👍 👌.
Be careful, Vinnie. You might make my head swell. 😂 I truly do appreciate your very kind words and your encouragement. You make me want to go in the kitchen right now and cook something. I do appreciate you being a part of our channel.
Hey, Brian! It's good to hear from you. I think you should plan to have French Toast for breakfast or dinner one day this weekend. We love it for breakfast and/or dinner. Let us know if you make it. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful French toast!! My boys love it!!!! What I do to get everything blended well is put all ingredients in my batter bowl and use my immersion blender on its lowest setting, it blends beautifully! Thank you for this video!!!
What? No maple syrup? Forget it!! 🤣Just kidding. These DO look fantastic. We love FT, too. I always made extra and froze it when my two boys were younger and needed to be out the door in a hurry. Never thought about incorporating flour into the batter, though. 😊
Thank you for always including the written recipe. I can't tell you how many I've printed. It makes shopping and preparing so much easier. I also like that the recipe is always one page. Y'all do a great job. Love all your videos.
gertierineer3701, you'll never know how much I appreciate kind comments like yours. It's subscribers like you who truly appreciate the work we put into our videos that keep us sharing our recipes. Your encouragement means the world to us.
MR. TOM AND MRS. I've never heard of putting flour in French toast mixture, but it sure does look good. I love French toast, so I'll definitely try this. Thanks for sharing, and you're so correct, God does love us.
Kenneth, you have absolutely made my day! I do appreciate your encouraging words. You will never know how much they mean to me.Thanks for being a part of our Come Sit At My Table family.
I was surprised about the flour, I knew I was always missing something. Thanks. I shared this to my daughter because she makes a lot of breakfast things and freezes them. The school morning rush. Thanks again.
Carole, we think it's so important to have breakfast items prepared and ready to serve for those busy, rushed mornings. I hope your daughter and her family enjoy the French Toast. I appreciate you sharing our video! Thanks for being a part of our channel.
Pancake mix is an interesting idea! I'll try that too. Thanks for sharing his secret ingredient! 😃 We sure do appreciate you being a part of our channel.
❤ I have coffee for breakfast, but breakfast foods like this are best for dinner! The addition of flour sounds really good, might just have this tonight!
Kelly, I don’t think there’s a bad time to enjoy French Toast.😃 I hope you were able to have French Toast tonight and I hope you enjoyed every bite. Thanks for watching our videos.

Hello Tom and Melissa thankyou for sharing your French toast recipe I am so very sorry I am running behind on your Videos I will get caught up soon you have a great week God loves you and so do I 🙏🏻🥰🙂
I’m so glad you enjoyed the fried apples, Dana. If you were able to have French Toast for dinner, I hope you enjoyed every bite. Thanks for coming to sit at our table today.
Great! Love your channel. There is a quicker and cleaner tip: after you crack your eggs, put them in a blender with milk, flour and spices. Lightly blend; then pour mixture in a casserole dish. It helps with a lot of mess and the stress.
I have never seen flour added before, and it makes sense it adds a great texture and browning to the french toast. Going to try this, thanks for sharing.
My kids always ask me to fix a loaf of french toast anytime I go to visit. It is my mother's recipe and it calls for 1 tbs sugar PER egg plus cinnamon and vanilla (no milk). It's amazing!
Your mom and I have great taste. I love French toast. My mom made it on weekends as well as pancakes. Through the week we had toast and an apple or cereal. She made us eggs a lot too but she went to work before we were even up so she made our weekends special. My aunt made me some once and it was really soft. I remember it being so special.
I’m very excited to try this recipe. My father always made French toast on the weekends when we were kids. He would make plenty extra just like you. He would fast freeze them for a few hours as well. You know how we re-heated our French toast? We would pull a piece out of the freezer and put it in the toaster. Oh my goodness it would come out so crispy and delicious.
Yes, Lennie, that's the way we reheat it also. It can be reheated in the microwave, which we've done when in a hurry. but we much prefer it reheated in the toaster. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
I made the French Toast Recipe I had to use 1/2 c . of cup of whipping cream & 1/2 c. of 1 percent milk Best French Toast I ever tasted ! Thanks for sharing your Mom’s recipe !
I love to go to Publix and buy the breakfast bread from the bakery....I slice it thick like Texas toast.... Awesome toasted with butter and it makes the best French toast ever.
Looks great. French toast is so delicious! It's a dish that I've never even thought to follow a recipe for. I must've learned from my mother or older sisters because I've just known how to make it.
Like you, I learned from my parents when I was a child, but many people have requested a recipe because they've only had it in a restaurant. Thanks for the comment and for watching our videos.
@tomwyant9297 I understand that I was very fortunate to have had mentors in the kitchen. I think you and Melissa are doing a wonderful job mentoring your RUclips community from your kitchen. I so enjoy watching your videos. I love food, recipes, learning from other cooks (especially from other regions), sharing food to nurture loved ones, kitchen "toys", well...the list is endless! Thank you both for sharing your videos.
Hi Tom and Melissa, I'm an old fashion cook and rarely use measurements. I make mine the same way, except I use more vanilla and cinnamon. ❤ I know this because I can see flecks of cinnamon on top and I can say I use at least 2 tsp. of vanilla. Sometimes I also use my homemade vanilla sugar. In fact I'll use this before anything else! It's really good! I also make my own fruit butters for on top of french toast, pancakes and biscuits. ❤
Boy oh boy 😅 can't wait to try it this way 🤤😊 thanks for sharing this 😊👍❤️ and God bless you and your family 🙏❤️ lol you sound like me in the kitchen 😅😊 and if it's not messy it ain't going 😊😅 thanks again ❤️🙏👍 and God bless everyone 🙏🙏🙏😊
French toast what a wonderful breakfast or dinner as me and my family for Alot breakfast for dinner meals. Thank you for this simple tasty french toast. As always I send my love and prayers. Jeff from Maine
Hey, Jeff. I was looking for your comment. I knew I could count on you to be here. Melissa and I both always appreciate and enjoy your comments. As always, we appreciate you being at our table today.
Love what you're doing. The next time you do this place the soaked French toast on a sheet pan let the batter absorb. For at least a minute or two. You'd be amazed at the difference. Then place the top side of the French toast down on the buttered grill. It's also great if you could let the butter brown a moment.
My favorite toppings for French Toast are sliced banana, tablespoon of chopped walnuts or pecans, and maple syrup. This makes me hungry just watching you make this - I’m going to have to make this tomorrow 😀
I had to jump om here and let you and Melissa know I just bought a NoMess Dough Disc in the original box. I am probably more excited than I should be. I have been looking for one, at a reasonable price, since I saw your. Thanks for sharing your videos. You two are always a bright spot in my days. God Bless you always. ❤
Years ago a friend made French Toast for breakfast. She shared a little trick with me: toast each slice VERY LIGHTLY and then dip each slice in the egg/milk mixture. Cook in the pan on each side as you normally would. It's Delicious and has a slight crispy texture. (This works great if the bread is very fresh - it saves the French toast from being soggy.)
Joan, I'm sure that's delicious, but for us the whole point of French Toast is for it to be creamy and moist in the middle. That's the reason I let it soak for about 10 seconds in the egg/milk mixture. I'm sure there are people who would like it crispy, but I've never heard of that. That wouldn't be French Toast for us. Thanks for sharing the suggestion, though. We appreciate having you at our table.
Oh my! Looks delicious! I have always loved French Toast! I love it at home and certain restaurants. Love it with butter and warm syrup. Yum! God bless you both! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hello Tom & Melissa - I know this is a good recipe as that is how I make our French Toast as well. I just make a smaller batch for the two of us. I will try to get that bread to use next time I make it. But that would be perfect to make a big batch & freeze some. Thanks for sharing & have a Blessed weekend to two! 🙏👏👏👏💕🌻
I've always added a lithe almond extract to my French toast. My husband & I enjoy the added flavor. I add this to my banana pudding as well & top it off with a small amount of toasted slivered almonds. We have never liked pineapple in our banana pudding, but we do like the almond flavor & crunch of the slivered almond.
This looks great! You say this is just plain French toast, but you could make it fancy in no time. You can buy cheesecake filling at the grocery store, layer it between two slices, and top it with sliced strawberries to make stuffed French toast. In fact , that may be my plan for this weekend!
Talk about delightful! This looks absolutely wonderful and I am passing it along to my good friend who is also a chef so he can come over and make this for us! I can't wait to try it and I can see why your mom cherished this recipe so much. I also have to comment that I accidentally came across your chili recipe and found out it was your very first video! That was so cool. And even cooler I got to see the star of the show in the end of that video none other than Melissa! So great to see her on camera smiling and so happy as you both seem to be. I really enjoyed that video too and I can't wait to make that chili! But I will definitely have to halve that recipe! So great to be at your table again and thanks for having me! 😊 ❤️ 😋
And it's also really neat that that was almost exactly 2 years ago! Your second anniversary is coming up in just a few weeks! I can't wait to see what you have prepared special for that! 😁
When I was in 5th grade, my 2nd oldest sister and I decided we were going to cook. We started with French Toast. (It was no wonder our home economics teacher thought she was teaching us to make the same thing in class 2 years latet.) Anyway, I digress. We made French Toast on Saturdays, and we always ate it with a tall glass of ice-cold milk. Then we started baking: chocolate chip cookies, cream puffs, taffy, and banana cream pie. Then one day, she got married and went to Germany where her husband was stationed in the Air Force. I had no one to bake with. So I started cooking dinners. (There were still 6 people living at home.) I started with homemade chili including soaking the beans. The whole thing was from scratch and just when I had the chili on the stove to reduce the juice until it was thick, my dad walked in and poured almost all of my chili juice down the drain. Needless to say I was really really mad at him. So I let it cook the way it was and served it to him that way. A few months later when I got over that episode, I got another batch of chili on the stove. He came in again and poured my chili juice down the drain again right in front of me again just like the last time. The next day while he was eating the chili, he complained to me (less than 2 feet away from me while I was standing next to him and he was seated) that the chili was too dry. Big mistake. I told him that was because he poured all my chili juice down the drain "and if you ever want me to cook something for you again, you will stay out of the kitchen!" He stayed completely out of the kitchen for about 3 years. If I was in there, he wasn't. A star was born after that. Dad decided he wanted to figure out how to make homemade bread. He gathered all the ingredients and placed them on the dining room table outside the kitchen. LOL. He only used the stove for the yeast part. His first batch was okay. But thereafter, his bread was excellent. He also made Dutch oven bread cinnomon rolls, and coffee cake. But he stayed out of the kitchen. Mom never said a word about the whole episode and the family ate really well. RIP Dad.
@@pysankar He thought it had too much water. He had no idea how to cook. He wouldn't listen to anyone until I yelled at him to stay out of the kitchen after the second episode. Mom witnessed the whole thing while she stood blocking the entrance between the kitchen and dining room.
I love french toast. I ordered it a lot when we went out. I am the only one who loved it. I started making overnight casserole to satisfy my love of french toast. I will try your flour method as everything else is the same in my recipe. I had not thought about freezing. Wow of wow🎉🎉
I just love having this in frig for grands. They LOVE breakfast for dinner. A little fruit and if lucky leftover ham or bacon (is there such a thing?) and we are all happy!!!
I’m so simple. I just add hazelnut coffee creamer to the eggs. A bit of cinnamon sugar helps to brown it nicely 😋 Being from NH originally, real maple syrup is a must. Sometimes I heat it briefly with a pat of butter. ❤ Dang. I love food. Homemade food! 🥘
When my Mom was in school, her Home Ec teacher said they would be making French Toast the next day. Mom was so excited ... til they actually started making it. They had it at home all the time. They just called it "fried bread." Mom was born in 1920 & lived to celebrate her 91st birthday.
And also thank you for mentioning God he is the only person that is holding us together in this time and every time 😇🥰😍
Amen

Tom, may I suggest that you try stirring your cinnamon and nutmeg into the flour before adding the flour. I found that it helps with mixing them tigether helps with incorporating the seasoning.

Yes, my mom used nutmeg, too! She attributed her Norwegian heritage for its use in recipes she made.
French toast is a great staple and family favorite. I do like it sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, but my dear daddy sprinkled salt and pepper and folded his French toast in half and ate it like a sandwich. Sometimes I also use my homemade vanilla sugar. In fact I'll use this before anything else! It's really good! I also make my own fruit butters for on top of french toast, pancakes and biscuits. ❤
Love your channel ! Keep it up Tom! Love the French Toast and That Bread
Yes, God loves you!
Agreed that's the best bread for french toast. 😋
I LOVE powdered sugar on my French Toast. Butter and powdered sugar,,,,YUM!
I usually use a loaf of "Texas Toast" bread for French Toast, but now I want to try the Sara Lee Artisano Brioche. Thanks for another great recipe!
using that Artisano bread makes great grilled cheese also.!.
Best cook nice saturdays
Yum!😋
My husband LOVES French toast!!!!!!! Artesano bread is the best along w/ there rolls!!!!!!!!!! Looks yummy....
Fantastic recipe. Thanks for sharing.💜😇
Yumm...thank you for the recipe..
Dalop of strawberry freezer jam..
Bless you two..❤
Thanks for reminding me that freezer jam would be a nice topping.
@glennad.6548 you bet..don't tell anyone..but I put syrup on it too..sshh
@@lorriew8627 me too! In fact I make my own. 1 cup sugar, 1 cup dark brown sugar, one cup water. Boil 1 minute. Done 😋
Love French toast.
Wow looks delisius
RIP Dad.
Why did he pour your juice down the drain?
I love your story, AZCanner! You stood your ground and drove your point home. Good for you! Thank you for sharing that story with us.
@@pysankar He thought it had too much water. He had no idea how to cook. He wouldn't listen to anyone until I yelled at him to stay out of the kitchen after the second episode. Mom witnessed the whole thing while she stood blocking the entrance between the kitchen and dining room.
@@tomwyant9297 He wouldn't cook anything or go near that kitchen after that as long as I was around.
@@AZCanner, 😂🤣😂
I love french toast. I ordered it a lot when we went out. I am the only one who loved it. I started making overnight casserole to satisfy my love of french toast. I will try your flour method as everything else is the same in my recipe. I had not thought about freezing. Wow of wow🎉🎉
I just love having this in frig for grands. They LOVE breakfast for dinner. A little fruit and if lucky leftover ham or bacon (is there such a thing?) and we are all happy!!!
Brioche for french toast is yummy!
I love french toast looks delicious
Wow, flour! I can’t wait to try that. I use brown sugar in my mix instead of white sugar.
Texas toast is also good
I agree, Catherine!
Wow I absolutely love french toast and having a new way to prepare it makes me so happy. Thank you for all your wonderful recipes and knowledge.❤
I’m so simple. I just add hazelnut coffee creamer to the eggs. A bit of cinnamon sugar helps to brown it nicely 😋 Being from NH originally, real maple syrup is a must. Sometimes I heat it briefly with a pat of butter. ❤
Dang. I love food. Homemade food! 🥘
Looks delicious
Syrup and peanut butter yummmm 🤗❤
Ooooooo, looks amazing!
I made these for dinner tonight, minus the nutmeg, didn't have any, but they were wonderful! Thank you for the recipe!
You are so welcome. We love having this for dinner sometimes!
