Also wanna add that you won't be able to play along with this video during the first demonstration of the head or when I edit that in again at the end unless you tune way up above 440. That's what I did in order to make the video. It also increased the tempo a good bit. Weird that it's like that because this is the studio cut. I couldn't find any live video of the Tony Rice Unit preforming Mar West. Good luck and enjoy......
Hey guys. I put this in the description of the video but wanna point out in the comments as well that the track when I'm demonstrating the head is WAY above standard 440 pitch. I tuned up to it by ear in order to make the video. I tuned back down for the "body" of the video. Good luck and enjoy.....

Hopefully I can get around to that one of these days. That might be my favorite track from the Mar West album. It unfortunately isn't on the Devlin compilation......

Well done, Wayne! A great tune from the pick of a great man. One niggle: you mention the 4 albums up front, with the statement "I think I have the sequence right - Acoustics, Mar West, Still Inside and Backwaters." Flip the last 2 and you got it. Regardless, a lovely tune/melody taught very well, indeed. Happy New Year!
Thx for pointing that out Alan. Easy to get a wire crossed with instrumental music. Do you remember burning copies of Mar West and Still Inside for me? Those are only available in that Devlin compilation and I was "missing" a few tracks. That was many moons ago freind......
@@waynesworldofmandolin3616 Ha, I barely do remember that! Funny thing about Devlin, the Rounder Records compilation disc: it consists of all of Still Inside, but only 7/8 of Mar West (lacking the tune Mar East), perhaps due to a contractual/copyright thing. For the longest time, Mar West was only available on vinyl. I eventually found a complete Japanese pressing, with superior sound. And what a prolific period that was for Tony (1979-81), coming off the Grisman band. His creativity was bursting in those 4 records, so great.

Man i hated to hear of Tony a good friend of mine told me that morning he passed and man it was a sad day like you said even if you never talked to the man he was still your friend just like all of you guys could you maybe do manzanita?

Love it! Thanks for breaking that down. Couldn’t those two half diminished chords at the end of the tag also be considered G7 and F#7?
They sure could Jesse. I labeled then as half diminished because it feels like the B flat half diminished really "pulls" us back to the B minor. As far as teaching it this way the half diminished thought tends to promote use of chord scale knowledge.......
