I agree with you Wayne. I've spent years trying to associate this with the guitar. It's not maybe by the fact that the mandolin that in tuned in 5ths where the guitar is tuned in 4ths and 3rds. Learning major and minor arpeggios and where to play them has been a big help to me in moving forward with my playing . As Adam Steffey said " it's a marathon not a sprint" Thanks

The CAGED system on mandolin would be called the CBbGFD system. Works the same exact way as guitar. It's certainly there, but how useful to the average player I couldn't say.There's easier ways to understand the mando fretboard, as Wayne points out.

I enjoy watching your videos, they are so informative. And thank you for sending along the tabs. I find that I am a visual learner first and tabs help me position my fingers properly on the keyboard as I work to train my ears and knowledge of the keyboard. I still struggle with some of the music theory behind understanding triads, arpeggios, etc. and how they can work together. You have a great teaching style and seem to make it easier to follow along. Thanks again!

Thanks for another great video. I think a lot of people get bogged down with all the different names and concepts that are used for describing music (scale, key, modes, triads and do-dads, arpeggios etc) when there are only twelve notes and these concepts are just tools to help us put them in order. The curse of RUclips is the long video (get more ads in...) that makes a simple thing sound like nuclear science. If you call it a 'theory' people think it's maths and give up! So thank you for keeping things concise and to the point. The CAGED system to me is about the moveability of chord shapes up and down the neck. No good for piano! Tuning in 5ths means you can move the shape across the neck. I am currently working on a 6 part Welsh hornpipe (no Tab or sheet music!) where most of the parts are variations around a D chord...triads. That's where you reach for that bit of knowledge and find the inversions. Do I know what key it's in? Nope , bound to be modal, leave that to the guitarist😉.
