    I'm thrilled this channel is still going. So many RUclips painters post videos guessing how the 'eavy Metal teams paints, so to have an actual 'eavy Metal painter teaching us how to do it is priceless. Please keep the videos coming!

      @the_zombie_ritual Well, different people have different styles, which is a good thing. And, while incredibly impressive technically, painting an entire army in this style wouldn't really be feasible, time-wise, for the vast majority of hobbyists.

  • @marksutherlandjr.2121
    @marksutherlandjr.2121 Год назад +5

    There is somthing REALLY special about this style of painting. There is a reason this is the box art. Personally Ive tried my hand at this style and its still quite beyond what I'm capable of when it comes to my patience for the cause. I get the results I need, on the timeframe I'm willing/capable of investing with my GrimDark style, it feels a bit more Rated R. But the polished Clean look of these models NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE!
    Edit: Really REALLY love this channel!

    It’s always a joy to see the Eavy Metal style painted. It’s a very defined style that makes the details stand out beautifully on pictures, but it also looks good on the table.
    Glazing is a skill I need to hone more. It can add so much life to those large flat armour panels that marines are known for.

I think it would be useful if you could do a video showing tips to mastering techniques, for example when you create a glaze to what level you thin the paint with water/glazing medium and then control of the paints. and other tips surrounding blending. something a lot of advanced painting videos don't cover in depth but would help when trying to master a higher level of painting

    Yes, more edge highlighting visual ASMR !
    Like you said, brush control is one of the most important aspects of mini painting and edge highlighting is THE best way to improve on it.
    It's getting tiring to see other YT channels saying "you don't need to edge highlight" or "you don't need to paint the details or using the "brand new painting invention" that is slapchop...
    Patience, practice and brush control are the only ways to improve and learn new skills and you videos are the best around for the 'eavymetal style

    • @dekai7992
      @dekai7992 Год назад +2

      Well, of course, "you don't need to edge-highlight" if it's not the style you're going for. Volumetric highlighting or Blanchitsu styles, for example, aren't dependent on that. I love me some 'Eavy Metal style once in a while, and I marvel at Dave's work and skill, but it's by far not the only correct way to do things. If flawless edge-highlights are your jam, that's awesome, but let's not be uncharitable towards other artists just because they don't rely on this one technique as much or not at all. There's a host of other techniques (glazing, panel lining, OSL, weathering, distressing, freehanding) to be practising brush control with, as well.

    • @spuriusligustinus4509
      @spuriusligustinus4509 Год назад +2

      @@dekai7992
      Never said or thought that but sadly there are, for me, too many YT channels that only talk about speed and time.
      The examples you give are all good ones but they require patience, brush control and time and in this day and age it's all about "gotta do it fast" and not painting as a journey, a way to meditate (for some), a way to improve on skills.
      But I stand by the fact that edge highlighting is the best and "easiest" way to improve brush control compared to other techniques

    I've been looking for this exact red for years and it is incredibly satisfying finding a source detailing how it's done because Mephiston red on it's on has never been giving that incredible colour that's seen in things like the GW Blood Angels painting guide book or Codex artwork. Very happy with this video

    • @malakim1773
      @malakim1773 Год назад

      I also don't know what I need to do to get it but I'll do anything for a mustard yellow Lamenters video. I have no idea where to even begin with it or what I'm looking for colour wise. I really like the image in the 5th edition codex but sources and art are almost non-existent and I don't want them to look like they could be confused with Imperial Fists with a different shoulderpad
