Dave would be proud.(really big monkey 1) that’s great thinking. I just came across your channel and subbed. Good content and always like to learn something.
Nice 👍 one James for a potato 🥔 masher theirs a masher for asparagus very small great for camping Bushcraft thanks great video till the next time thanks
It is a good ideal and have made and used similar. Well for ones that do not have a die/drum tool, etc.😅Go to a second hand or garage sale and buy a potato masher. Remove handle. Can be pushed into ground. Plus a small clamp ring (in your video to make a strong tree) place to connect a hot dog wire or skewer or stick etc to make an extension handle for cooking or smoking/ drying meats.
@@WayPointSurvivalGreat video and genious thriftyness. Can you kindly make a video with various camping uses for a cotton pillowcase.... making an oilskin or wax haversack, bushcraft bag, etc... I think that this project fits right into the hobo theme that you/we love of improvising instead of spending lots of money on a wax canvas bag.
Potato masher doubles as a branding iron for the wife! If you did not need to fold the device, you could just cut the end where the handle is and straighten that. Wrapping that burger in aluminum foil can help keep it moist.
Good dig grill James. That burger looked good too. Thanks for sharing. Check at the hardware for those connectors rather than cutting those loops apart. Should be cheaper too. See you in the next one
I like this idea but would have done it a bit different. Instead of cutting the metal off of the handle, would have cut lengthwise on the handle and thus getting an inch or up to three inches more of the metal for the legs. The cooking stand would be even more stable with more metal to push into the ground. Also, at the hardware store, get some open ended stainless steel standoffs that you can get at different lenghts for cheaper than the "add-a-link" chain links. Now, for starting a fire, I prefer to use found materials and dry cotton balls. Whole cotton ball if things are a bit wet out and far less of one if using all dry materials. Also, for more control and less wear on the fero rod, I hold my striker in place and pull the rod back against the striker so it concentrates the sparks there and most times get the fire going with one pull.
That was cool. You didn't mention it, but as far as you know, are most potato mashers of that design made of the same diameter size steel rod? Naturally, all one has to do is match the die to the diameter of the rod one wants to thread, but I was wondering if you have tried other brands of potato mashers and seen any differences. While it is small, it's also so compact that with the popular Stanley cook cup or an Esbit or just a cup and metal water bottle it would be packed in even my smallest kit. I'm not a hunter, but for a can of chicken or soup, cup of noodles or maybe even a captured bird or squirrel it's perfect.
I'm not sure if they are the same diameter or not. I just took the masher with me to the hardware store and matched it like you said. It does make a perfect mini grill. Thanks for asking.
And some of my early videos I either forgot to do it entirely or forgot to film it. Sometimes when you're filming it's hard to have the presence of mind to do everything as it should be done.
I have a question/idea for you. I took apart an old toaster and saved the small racks that hold the bread. Any ideas/videos on what to make out of those? Thanks so much for all you do.
If they are big enough, it would make a really good grate for frying bacon over a small camp stove such as one that you would make out of a tin can or such.
super idea. it gives me an idea for making a more stable container surface for my micro butane stove. THANKS! I love making my own gear or adapting other items to suit different needs as well, great videos. Also, a question- is that your blood type on the little tag on your pack or part of the gear name?
I've noticed that you use a SOG multitool. I use the same model and I prefer it to a leatherman, is that the reason you use the SOG? Just curious. Thanks James, great video! I just made a grill like that and I'm going give it a test drive. ATB Sam Adler
I like the SOG Powerlock because of the gear driven pliers, much better grip. As well as the fact that I like the array of tools that it comes with. Very early on my channel I did a review on the SOG tool: ruclips.net/video/uQdEvMLlOPM/видео.html
YOU COULD do all of this but, in today's wage market, if you work at McDonald's you're making ABOUT $19/hr. You could spend an HOUR doing this, you'll need a dremel, a tap-and-die, and a potato masher. Then you'll need the gun-sling type clips, so you'll have an additional at LEAST $10 into parts, and $50 in tools or more. OR...............you could stop at ANY thrift store in america on your way to work or school, run to the housewares section and buy one of the UBIQUITOUS little round grills from instapots, and actual charcoal grills, etc. that are there for $.69 or less. And you'll be $100's ahead. And if you derive a sense of pride from building that, brother, ya need a new hobby.
This old gem popped up at random and the title hooked me. Outstanding.
Thanks so much for watching some of this early content!
You have great ideas. Really like the campfire cooking part of all outdoor videos
Thanks!
That is a good one. You could even add a little larger flat grill over this cinched down with wire to give you more surface area
I can see making 2 of these and placing them side by side to accommodate larger pots and skillets.
Good thinking.
Dave would be proud.(really big monkey 1) that’s great thinking. I just came across your channel and subbed. Good content and always like to learn something.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for subbing!
That was one of the funniest video titles I have come across. 😄
Thanks!
Ok James, you got my wheels a turning with this one!
Always satisfied with the videos. 👍
Thanks!
James, I can see where the convenience this "grille" provides makes it worth the effort!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
I know this is a few years old, but this just came up. Good idea.
You could use an old sock to put it in.
True. Thanks for watching!
Based on your videos, I can imagine what you did to your toys as a kid. Another cool idea!
I did tend to take things apart from time to time, lol.
I like your camping plate, too!
Thanks!
That's a real cool idea. Burger looked very yummy. Thanks again for sharing
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I love that little grill i never thought of turning a potato masher into a grill
Thanks so much!
That's great you used a potato mesher how cool is that I like it
Thank you!
Nice 👍 one James for a potato 🥔 masher theirs a masher for asparagus very small great for camping Bushcraft thanks great video till the next time thanks
Thanks for watching!
Wow James your great love your bideos
Thank you!
Thank you for the video I enjoyed watching it and what a great idea.
Thank you for watching and glad you liked it!
That's pretty clever and earned you a sub, can't wait to see what else you got
Thank you!
Soper idea. I will be making one for myself. Thanks.
Sorry. It should be super.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Yum! Deer meat is delicious 🤤 😋 I’ll have to try it next time I go camping.
Thanks for watching!
Great Video!
I watched it the second time. Enjoyed it again. Wonderful idea. The burger looks delicious.
Excellent, glad you liked it the second time too!
You can use a canister gas burner, and an alcohol stove under this grill as well. It would work well with a vegetable steamer. :)
Absolutely. Thanks for watching!

I thought you were going to make a slingshot with it until I clicked on it!😂 sorry got them on the brain just lately!😂
That might be another great idea for a potato masher!
0820 WST Australia. Great little invention, thanks for this promotion.
Not sure if I was able to get used to you without the beard 🤣
Regards
Thanks. Yes, that video was quite a few years ago.
Love this tip. Definitely going in my bag.
Thanks, brother!
Good one James!
Thanks!
Great lesson
Thanks!
Excellent! Great idea, looks like it works great.
Thanks, brother! It does work very well.
🇺🇸🙋♀️🐴👍🍃 Very cool and packable idea!
Love this idea.
Thank you!
Awesome video brother thank you for sharing stay safe and God Bless
Thanks for watching and God bless you too!

Back in the day we'd use a coat hangar if we got desperate. Made a good stable grill as well.
Excellent idea, thanks for watching!
Smashing idea. !
Thanks!
Another cracking little project, brilliant.
Thanks for sharing James,
atb, Paul

That cool James

Yes, I thought of that but it makes it really awkward to carry especially after it gets covered with soot from the fire.
Great idea. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I will build my own!😊
Excellent!
You always have such cool project ideas I'm constantly trying to build the things you make you and corporals corner are my top 2 channels
Thank you so much, glad that you are enjoying the channel!
I am definitely going to make a variation of this. I have a few sterno cans and I think this would make the perfect rack for the coffee pot.
Good dig grill James. That burger looked good too. Thanks for sharing. Check at the hardware for those connectors rather than cutting those loops apart. Should be cheaper too. See you in the next one
Thank you. Yes, that's a great idea!
It’s called a coupler or coupler nut
I like this idea but would have done it a bit different. Put 2 holes in your trivet. You can then slip the small threads of the potato masher in them for a more stable cooking surface.
Thanks for watching and for the suggestion.
Awesome little grill. Good thinking.
Thank you!
Using it for a cooking/ a grill🎉
Indeed.
You forgot to take down your cap and pray before digging into that delicious burger.
And some of my early videos I either forgot to do it entirely or forgot to film it. Sometimes when you're filming it's hard to have the presence of mind to do everything as it should be done.
Have you ever consider using dryer lint as a fire starter? Or even used fabric softener sheets?
Dryer lint, yes. Have not done fabric softener sheets. Thank you for watching.
Try some Adobo on your meats! Good stuff!!!
Cool video bro!
Thanks for watching and the heads up on the adobo seasoning.
Thats pretty slick.
Thank you for watching.
Pretty slick idea, Who doesnt love Deer Burger.
Thanks! Yes, and it tastes great grilled on an open fire!

cool idea that... but Lipton onion soup mix, mixed in the meat makes a really good and flavorful addition
Thank you for sharing that, I will have to keep that in mind. And thank you for watching and commenting!

@@WayPointSurvival what a really good idea. Incidentally thats my blood type as well lol
😱 You ate Bambi. 🤔 🤣
Actually, it was a distant cousin....
@@WayPointSurvival:
Lol
You could probably get the coupling nuts at a hardware or big box store cheaper.
Possibly. Thanks for watching!
That’s pretty clever
Thank you!
You should put that in your can stove therefore you have a top for it.
Good idea. Thanks for watching!
HOT DOGS W REAL GRILL MARKS..
Yes!

I have often looked at potato mashers and thought how it would make a small grill
Thanks!
Why not just use extention nuts instead of the chain loops. would be a lot cheaper too.
I couldn't find them on short notice in the time in which I had to film the video. But, yes those are a good option. Thank you for watching!
KOOL
Thanks!
Handy gadget.
Thanks! Really appreciate it!
I was just thinking you were going to make it a grill. That's awesome and handy, especially for when you're out in the woods.
Yes, and it's inexpensive and easy to make.
You should sell these I have none of the tools to make this
Thanks! Never thought of selling them.
it's a "coupling nut"
Indeed.

However, survival is often about improvisation. If you just purchase stuff, you don't learn anything...Thanks for watching!
Way too much work and to expensive. Just buy a grill
What's the fun in that, and you don't learn anything...
