  • The 2019 Lexus LC500 and 500h are handsomely-styled metal slabs of Japanese origami, but does Lexus put some real substance beneath all that eye-popping sheet metal? We go to the twisting mountains above Malibu, California to find out.

    I would buy one. Especially for the MPG I would buy it. That kind of performance and that kind of MPG and high tech show piece ... it is a bargain.

    Ok so I tried to convince my wife to buy the V8. She insisted on the hybrid. I own a Macan S for reference. Now After owning and living with the LC 500h for more than a year now. Here is my take. Looks and stares are in Ferrari territory! I mean this thing attracts tons of attention. Despite this video’s opinion. The brakes are very impressive! From any speed control on a dime. And acceleration is effortless. Feels like 400 horsepower instead of 354. I mean it’s a strong almost nasty pull. Wonder if it’s underrated? And it just sips gas. All said... I no longer wish for the V8.

      And since you wrote this, gas has skyrocketed. We currently have a Lexus RX hybrid and love its total silence in heavy traffic, as well as its good fuel mileage. The LC500h is on my radar of next vehicle purchase choices, as is the Lotus Emira.

      Agreed. This car _LOOKS_ awesome inside and out (ignoring the 1990s infotainment), but I wish they could use Acura's premium hybrid powertrain from the NSX/MDX. As much as I love the idea of a luxury hybrid, Lexus (Toyota) hybrid powertrains are more suited for a Prius.

    Nice but if you want that outstanding sound , get the v8. Theres nothing like the sound of a naturally aspirated engine.

    • @toyotaprius79
      @toyotaprius79 6 лет назад

      ... but it is naturally aspirated... It's problem is that the engine is too small (for the lack of electric assist that aids it).

    • @jordancatcher6663
      @jordancatcher6663 6 лет назад

      toyotaprius79 true but you aren't able rev the hybrid version and it lacks the performance the gasoline models give you. I'd say if care more about fuel economy get the hybrid.

    • @toyotaprius79
      @toyotaprius79 6 лет назад +1

      Jordan Catcher Yeah, revving is not gonna happen for Toyota/Lexus hybrids. They're clutchless in practice. Revving would just force charges
      it.
      However there's no reason for any car not be performance orientated and fuel efficient. It's definitely capable. It's been done for years now, like how long has it been since we've seen the 918? Forget the image of "hybrids", actually looking at them they're as close as they can get to locomotives, power plants. At they're best if you ever got to drive one with a full battery from a steep hill, they are effortless, instant and addictive much like full EVs. The engine provides light power while the battery does the work, they drive as if you're in a big, lazy V8 when accelerating, with insane economy. And that should be very appealing to the typical Lexus buyer.
      They can be far better if electric output mirrored it's combustion output, but rather electric output is only engineered for assist (which in grand in ways) but a traditional hybrid is not enough.
      The problem with this automaker is that they never further developed the electric side of the hybrid equation. They actually spent some years discrediting the idea. No matter how complicated they seem, total output is always Engine output + Battery output. The batteries were always revised, downsized by each generation, but never really enhanced.
      Over a decade now Lexus hybrid batteries never really put out more than 50 bhp or travelled more than 2 miles, this LC500 tops at 44kW or 59bhp and at 250v... An i-MiEV technically has more output, a far higher voltage and capacity.
      And for years now, in the days of PHEV Volvos, BMWs, Chevies, Hondas and so on, this Lexus is technically a largely wasted opportunity.
      Its biggest rival will be that upcoming Polestar P1 with 90 miles of range, and that's what this Lexus could've been.

The same car with an astonmartin or maserati name would cost 240k once you add all the options.Think about the difference between this car and a similarly priced Mercedes or BMW when it comes to reliability and DEPRECIATION. It is definitely a bargain.

    Another reviewer who refuses to read and learn about a very complex machine. This car isn't a Model "T" or WWII Jeep. It's highly complex and requires the owner to learn about it. If she had done this, she'd wouldn't have asked about the "equalizer". Having owned my 2018 for just under four years, it is a pure joy. I read the Owner's Manual and learned about the car and all the features. I didn't assume anything. I read. After you've done that, you'll know to run the SETUP program in the infotainment system. You set all your personal preferences and it takes a bit of time. However, once you do that, you rarely have to mess with the touchpad and you'll never say stupid stuff like this woman. Become familiar with VOICE COMMAND and the touchpad will be obsolete in most cases. You simply press a button on the left side of the steering wheel and tell the car what you want it to do. Lexus also has CLIMATE CONCIERGE. Set that up and the car will provide a very comfortable climate without you having to do anything. If, by some chance, you do need to change something...simply say CLIMATE CONCIERGE and the system takes you to the appropriate screen for any adjustments you want to make. As for "equalizer", that too can and should be SETUP by you prior to driving the car. Once you adjust the sound just the way you like it, you should never have to change a thing. But, if you do want to make a change...use VOICE COMMAND and it gets you there. Watching these lazy, uninformed reviewers gets depressing because they aren't doing their job. You can give an honest opinion unless you know what you're talking about. She doesn't. If you can find a better car, and you can't, then go buy it. The LC 500 is the best car available on the market today and it should sell for three times the price.

    The car is exclusive, but some have managed to describe their experiences of it. In short the LC500h would be better if it was a practically ranged plugin without that complicated dual gearbox whose only purpose was to damped down any bemoaning and bitching over a "CVT". Whatever they were trying to achieve with the CVT doesn't work, largely because it's not even a CVT that's present in hybrids.
    What this is though drivetrain wise is a spoilt and over engineered hybrid that disrupts itself on how it operates while ultimately relying on a small capacity, non chargeable, 30-50bhp battery boost. Something Lexus puts out as a selling point.
    If only Lexus swallowed their pride and prejudice on plug-ins... If only they gave this commendable EV power, it would be a more effortless, hushed heavy hitter, instead what it is is overstrained and clunky on paper and in practice. And for what, responding to internet opinions of cvts?
