- Is it still worth getting an Omega instead of a Rolex, or have things changed? It’s 2023 and the landscape looks a lot different to before. It's a battle between the Omega Seamaster vs Rolex Submariner!

I bought the Omega Seamaster Professional last year, very happy with it. I don't like the idea of some Rolex AD looking down his nose at me thinking I'm not good enough for one of his watches.
Im old enough to not give a F what anyone thinks about me. But I get your point.
Nobody think this of you, relax. They just do not have the watch you want...
@@vianouche1 Actually they do. They just need you to buy a bunch of unwanted pieces first before considering selling you a hyped Rolex model.
@@seaweed719 I have to agree with you. Ferrari has the same mind set.
@seaweed719 exactly you can buy any model Rolex in solid gold or platinum any day of the week. What ratio do the get them in, I think they have to sell one precious metal one to get 5 steel versions, something like that. 5:1 or 7:1
The omega is a better purchase as its available for purchase.
Not all of them 😂
Hope you do not want Green 😮
Unless people are buying an Omega (most people making this boring comment are not 🙄) then it’s irrelevant anyway.
Doesn’t the fact that Omegas are generally more readily available prove the opposite point?
I think a lot of Omega owners are just as sick of the fanboy Rolex hate.
Like I said. Most of it is just jealous haters who will never get either.
Great point . Bought a Speedmaster. Love both of them. Have a submariner
I wanted my first watch to be a Rolex submariner, but the impossible wait times gave me the time to learn about other watches. I purchased an Omega Seamaster, and I love it. I don’t have the desire to own a Rolex anymore. I’d instead explore other brands.
ur a real one :')
This is amazing. Hope more people do the same.
Yep, I've got that tee-shirt too ... 🙂
I feel the same. Wanted a Submariner for my 60th last year. The AD practically laughed at me. Went and bought a Cartier Santos instead. Then a Breguet. Then a JLC Reverso. Now looking at a Vacheron Constantin. Rolex is in the dust.
There was nothing stopping you from buying a Rolex Submariner of an older reference. No waiting, and it would be timeless.
I own both watches in this video and although I love the sub, the seamaster just feels like much higher quality to me. I prefer the display caseback, and the green ceramic dial is incredible because the color changes with different lighting conditions. The rubber strap on the omega also makes the watch one of the most comfortable watches I own and fits easily over a wetsuit/drysuit. In addition, I enjoy how casual it looks on the rubber because, even though the sub can also be worn very casually, the Rolex name makes other people very aware of the watch on your wrist and its value, which is not something I tend to enjoy advertising. And of course, as a diver with all green diving equipment that often dives in the kelp forests off the west coast of the U.S., the green color and "seaweed" name is very fitting for me. As a result, the omega is my new daily and the sub hasn't left the safe in months.
I also have both and couldn’t disagree more. The sub ia the epitome of a tool watch, with all the quality of a luxury piece, perfection.
@@user-kv8po4er2j I also own both. The Rolex is also so much better for HALO jumping since it can handle extreme low pressure environments. When I was on the moon, my Seamaster exploded!

i bought my first expensive "to me" watch last month from watchfinder and i haven't looked back.
Enjoy your purchase. I am lucky enough to own a few but my first, a 1974 Speedmaster, is extra special and is worn regularly. I expect I will be buried wearing it !

Congratulations, enjoy the Seamaster. I have been eyeing the white wave dial Seamaster and think it's time to pull the trigger!
Price increase now as of the 1st Feb 2023, its currently £5200 on a rubber strap. Glad I got mine for £3520 in 2018 😮💨
I must admit it has crossed my mind once or twice whether Rolex are playing “the harder to get” strategy simply because Omega are continually improving their watches and the only way Rolex can compete with that it is to limit their supply and thus perpetuate the myth that they must be better because they are more difficult to buy. I bought my first GMT in 2002 out of a shop window in Derby and apart from a slight difference in appearance and movement, I can’t say that the current GMT is that much better or justifies costing over three times as much as I paid in 2002.
The Seamaster was £1500 in about 2008/9. It’s now £5500. They are both as bad as each other.
@@TheRunningManZ I disagree. My first watch was a 1997 Seamaster and my first Rolex was the aforementioned GMT in 2002. The difference in materials in both watches, not to mention the advance in movement, is far more significant on the Omega than the Rolex. Granted, the GMT has been made with the 904l steel since 1985 and the power reserve may have increased, but apart from the slightly smaller lugs and larger hour markers and the ceramic bezel, there isn’t six and a half grand’s worth of improved spec on the Rolex compared to the 2002 model (which cost me £2,350). On the Seamaster however, I would agree that the price increase is more in line compared to the £1095 I paid 26 years ago. The 1997 model had a pretty basic ETA movement, the hour markers looked like stickers on the dial, and the dial itself very much resembled a blue circle with wavy lines on it; not to mention the aluminium bezel which was easy to scratch (and I did ☹️) Yet in virtually every aspect of the modern Seamaster Omega have upped their game to the point where I genuinely have to question whether I want the Submariner 126610LN more than the black Seamaster (the fact that the manager of my local AD who I’ve known since 2001 noted a silly fat grin on my face when I tried the Omega on recently doesn’t help. Especially when after buying from the store for nearly three decades the same manager says he’ll happily get me a Sub in once I’ve made my decision). The dial is stunning, the placement of the date at six is a genius move, and the movement is amazing. The only thing Omega need to do to make the Seamaster perfect is taper the bracelet and remove the AR coating on the outside.
Rolex hasn't cared about what Omega has been doing for the last 50 years. Omega are the ones who continually feel the need to measure themselves against Rolex.
Rolex does not limit the production, they are producing as many watches as they can. The demand is too high that leads to product shortage. They are building another factory to ramp up production, if the shortage was artificial they would not be doing that.
@@michaeladams9744 delusional
I have both watches. The Rolex remains in its box. It was more thrilling chasing /attaining it than actually owning it. Whereas I wear the omega and love it.
I sold my 116040. Exact same feelings. It barely got any wrist time since Ω's SMP300 was purchased in Dec 2018.

I was obsessed with the SMP 300 back in 2020 & I bought one. It was my first luxury watch & I absolutely love it to this day. When I consciously spotted a new Rolex Submariner for the first time months later, I was completely underwhelmed. I thought my SMP was superior in every way 😂. Yes, I understand the Submariner is probably the most iconic watch ever made but you sure do pay for it. The black Sub is too vanilla of a watch & does nothing for me, but I’d love to own one with a green bezel (Cermit, Starbucks) which has added character. The SMP & Submariner stand toe to toe & are both great watches. Try them both on & buy the one you like more. The SMP is an insane value for what you get though, & I don’t believe the Sub has 3x better specs. The Sub will retain its value over time but that’s not why I got into watches. And if you intend to pass down your watch to younger generations, should the resale value matter? Just something to think about…
So glad you love the SMP 300.
It’s such a shame a lot of your (and a lot of SMP 300 owners/fanboys) enjoyment of it seems to be based on slagging off Rolex.
It’s a mess of a design to me, and it’s rude hateful deluded owners are more than welcome to it.
@@alfieakaronaldog a lot of my enjoyment comes from slagging off Rolex? Lol…I literally stated I’d love to own a green bezel Submariner & own a Rolex myself. I simply stated my thoughts, opinions, & experiences. Your comment truly brings out your toxic watch enthusiast personality. Have a day 👋

You might want certain Rolex’s (good luck 😉) but the damage was done.
I have both the Submariner 40mm and recently purchased the submariner seamaster 300m with the green. I can honestly say I wear the Seamaster more than I do the Sub.
US Navy rejected Rolex in the 1950s as not qualified for service.
NASA rejected Rolex in the 1960s and selected an Omega for service on the moon.
Even today Rolex advertises a watch as resisting 1000 gauss whereas almost every Omega is designed to withstand 15,000 gauss.
Sorry but when was Rolex ever good enough for anything?
It was only good at marketing. Their movement is actually very robust!
I have finally attained my trinity of watches after years of saving and clawing - I could not be happier. Omega has been part of o my family for 40+ years and so I have had no interest in the Rolex waters and even if I did, would not have been able to afford them. As a jeans and t shirt guy, this Omega trio covers me for everything- Speedy 3861 Hesalite, SMP300 white dial on the rubber strap and the Aqua Terra 41mm blue dial on the strap
Why not deviate? Omega is great. I just have always seen to have a trinity is usually 3 of different things
@@tacomn thanks - I’ve never had any interest nor need to deviate from the brand. My dad introduced me to Omega some 40 years ago and since then I have been enamored with it. I love everything about the brand and it means more to me than just the some total of the watches - there is 40+ years of history that no other brand can replace
@@sumitkar8146 I guess that is a fair response. I got tripped up on when you used the term your trinity of watches. The Holy Trinity is a term used in watchmaking historically to refer to the three brands that embody the art of watchmaking: Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin. Point being idea of the Holy Trinity is used to collectively categories three distinct brands that embody key elements of the industry.
Great collection.
Wow, really nice, simple collection!
I was lucky enough to pick up the green seamaster in May last year, one of the first in the country. Been wearing it every single day since and love it like the first time I put it on. Its an awesome piece and the green is stunning how it changes in different lights.
You was duble lucky because in May was 400 pounds cheaper 😜 my in February 2023 was more expensive and was very difficult to get one but got it(green)
Own both, Omega I can switch up with the rubber, steel bracelet and most recently the OEM mesh. Changes the look completely. Rolex, looks good on its own with the oyster bracelet. Recently my Omega seems to be be more wrist time 😊
Unless you are Sean Connery
Yeah just tried to get the mesh on the 20mm....sold out, as per!
I bought my SMP300 with the blue face back in 2005. Paid under $2k if I remember correctly. It has been on my wrist almost every day except the time I had it serviced. I’ve taken it below 100 feet spearfishing and on multiple military deployments where there was no water in sight. It has never failed me. It is a great watch. Subs are cool but the only Rolex I really want is a GMT.
My first, and only, Rolex was an 80’s GMT Master that I bought new. I ultimately didn’t like being in that club so much. Happily sold it.
I’ve always thought my first gen Aqua Terra and Planet Ocean were design masterpieces. Newer generations are too shiny and glitzy for me. I’ll stick with what I have. Recently picked up a pre-Bond SMP 300. Love it for its legibility and, frankly, for its lack of skeleton hands. Those are just too dainty for a dive watch - IMHO.
I prefer Omega for its underdog perception and under the radar status. Great design doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. Neither do I. Those who know, just know…
I'm so jeslous you got the sword hands SMP - in my mind, that's one of the loveliest watches ever.
I like your two last lines; that’s precisely that 👍🏽
I own both. Submariner is my grail piece. I fortunately was able to get mine 7 years ago when you can actually get one. The seamaster actually gets more wrist time, and it's simply a damn good watch. Finding people getting rolexes to flex more and I'm wearing mine less and less because of that.
Exactly why I chose omega vs Rolex. Too many flexing kids with fake or genuine rolexes, one even tried to chat me up like we were best buds
@@zoolander6362 That's called being friendly!
How can one be loyal to Rolex when no one can buy it outright when visiting an AD? Personally, I would buy the Sub over the Omega if it were readily available.
I got my wife the new aqua terra in November. Set the time when it arrived. Haven’t had to adjust it since. It’s crazy accurate for an automatic. By comparison, my Rolex gmt has gained time since November. I’ve had to adjust it twice. Still a great watch, but omega movement is superior. No question. Frankly, the omega design is nicer too. So much more detail in the watch. The dial is beautiful (cream and gold with waves).
Good thing since the AT’s crown is not the best, kept me away from it
I was recently asked what I wanted for my 60th (which is a year away). After a lot of thought I decided I would take my first venture into getting a nice watch. After a lot of online research, watching many RUclips videos (ESPECIALLY YOURS - THANK YOU) and looking at many official websites. Oh, and also asking a few friends, I visited a few shops in Glasgow to see what caught my eye. Resultantly I asked for and was granted an Omega Speedster 38mm. ( I have. small wrist) - On advice from the shop we opted to buy it this year to beat any price increases possibly two if I dithered to Feb March next year. I was allowed to wear it on my birthday this this year 59th! and I have to say it has opened up a new hobby / interest for me. Your videos assisted here. What I would like to say is that from watching many videos there does seem to be a lot of favouritism / bias towards various brands. Is this better than that? What's the best investment? and so on. ( I think we sort of do that with everything don't we? From Cars to Golf Clubs - Restaurants and so on) - I suppose it's only human. I am glad to say that I will never sell this watch. it will be passed on and unless you are playing the game of selling to upgrade etc, my honest opinion is this. If you are buying a watch it's simple. It's absolutely and simply all about what "YOU" want and WHAT YOU think is nice. Not what other people try to drive you to think. Remember many of these people are driven by likes and views and ads which I understand. Either that or they are just nutters who like to annoy people! But the main reason for writing this ( my one and only ever time I will do this I think) is to say that for me I am absolutely delighted with the way things panned out. So go get that watch if you can and stand by your convictions. Defend them even no matter which one you go for. Make sure you take time to enjoy both it and the relationship and respect that you grows for your new watch. Hope you all have a fantastic ( and more importantly healthy) 2024... John Mac.
I thought I was deadset on buying a no date Submariner until I realized prices went absolutely insane. Ended up going with an Omega Speedmaster that I absolutely love.
That green Seamaster on a stainless bracelet I would love to add down the road.
Both are sweet...but if I had a chance to get a Sub no-date at an AD price I would in a heartbeat.
10 years ago I would. But knowing what Rolex do to consumers now, I wouldn't. The name on the dial means something and Rolex has been trashing theirs
The Submariner in its purest format. Gorgeous.
@@fark69 10 years ago you wouldn’t have needed to even spend RRP, you could actually get a discount.
@@fark69 Quite the opposite. They have been making the name on their dial more desirable by making the watches harder to attain.
I just recently bought one and it’s the most amazing watch ever. Although I did purchase it at a premium. Worth every penny though. Words don’t do justice to it once you have it in person!
Been able to buy the watch you want rather than the one the shop is willing to sell you is a big thing. I've never liked the Rolex submariner or Tudor black bay myself. I do like the pelagos and the explorer though and I could probably get both of those for the price of a sub
Rolex has better stats: 70h power reserve, 40,5mm diameter, 12,3mm thickness; 4Hz beatrate;
Omega: 55h power reserve, 42mm diamater, 13,7 thickness, 3,5Hz beatrate, plus ugly hands, helium escape valve, scatchable coating on the outside of the crystal, slippery bezel;
If I had the money for the Omega, I would continue saving for the Rolex or buy the Tudor 39.
Your smoking crack
I have had the blue face rolex with gold/silver band, two black face rolexes, but now have the Omega Seamaster. Had it for a year. Only thing I can say for sure is i did well selling my Rolexes and the Omega keeps better than than any Rolex ever did. My last Rolex needed a $1,000 "tune up" and that was the tipping point for me to buy the Omega. I think the crazy days of Rolex pricing may be waning for reasons too complex for this narrative.
For me, it would be a blue seamaster 300m on a bracelet with a blue dial. The affinity of that design with peirce brosnan playing Bond and the N64 has an indelible mark on my memory. Even a new one hasn't changed much in over 20 years.
I own the Goldeneye Seamaster 2541.80 without the cheesy 007 adornments. It really is that good after 22 years of ownership. I wouldn't buy anything Omega from that period onwards.
😄 Goldeneye on the N64 - 👌 Happy days. Can't believe that was over 25 years ago.
I love them all. I always thought of myself as a Rolex guy, and I guess I am. But I own 3 Omegas now and love them. Super high quality watches and great to look at. It is amazing however at how powerful the Rolex brand is today.
Yes cause it's on same level when it comes to brand, finish and movement is better. And on top on this you do not have to band over in front of AD to get it or be dumb enough to pay double of Grey market.
I’ve had a planet ocean for a few years and wouldn’t dream of getting rid of it for a sub.
I'm 54 and have been a long time Omega fan and have had many of their watches. I am waiting for my first Rolex as they are made of Unobtainium.

Great value! A Submariner is not worth 10X the price in my view.
I inherited a 1944 gold Omega bumper bought by my dad in London when he was in England as a B-17 pilot. As a career airline pilot he later bought a Speedmaster after the moon missions. He figured if it was good enough for them it was good enough for him. I received that as well. I bought a Cartier Santos because I thought it was historic and looked cool as well. However my favorite watch is a circa early 1990's Seiko 200m chronograph with black face & stainless with rubber bracelet. It was much cheaper than my other watches but it still keeps incredible time and although it has never been to 200 meter it has been to 50 meters in Belize. Seiko makes incredible watches from fairly inexpensive to high priced. I love them all.
yess Omega better all day any day
I'll be picking up my first luxury watch Seamaster 300 in the morning today, need to make a decision between white and blue dial for every day use. Any suggestions?
Yes. They are vastly overpriced. Buy a Tudor.

Just got an omega PO 600m the day before the price increase. LOVE It
I tried on a Seamaster 300m in ‘21 and ever since I’ve really wanted one, I’ve always thought Rolex were over priced and over hyped so would always choose the Omega. I doubt it’ll happen though unfortunately.
I don't have a Sub but I have a DateJust with the same 3235 in it. It's day-to-day variance is a little more consistent than my SMP 300 but I have to correct the time on the Omega less often. Currently the SMP has gone 38 weeks without being adjusted and is only 20 seconds off the atomic clock. The Rolex last went 28 weeks before being more than a minute off the actual time. Quite a feat for the SMP considering it has a lower beat rate.
Wow. That’s an insane accuracy!
Edit: do you always just put it into a winder when not in use?
@@johnpatricklopez I never use a winder. I wear one at work and one at home. The Omega has been further off the actual time, but always under a minute.
How about the date changes throughout the months ( 30 ; 31 days ? )
@@sumtingwong51770 Neither movement stops when you adjust the date wheel so it doesn’t affect the offset. The Rolex date change has a much crisper action, but the Omega changes closer to midnight (within one minute as opposed to about 6 minutes after).

Omega had another price rise while you made this video. The SMP300 on steel bracelet is now £5500. Omega have been doing almost quarterly price rises atm. Rolex not far behind.
The real story here is not the comparison, it’s all of them pricing collectors out of buying their watches. They are getting to a point where they are going to ruin themselves and price themselves into obscurity.
Omega, they have continually improved the movements and finishing, they're available and the price is better.
Rolex makes a great watch but they are clearly coasting on the Brand name the last few years. Rolex does make a nice SS Bracelet though.
Bel Canto just took over my desire for an omega. Can't wait for November to arrive!
I bought myself a Seamaster 300 Pro for my 30th anniversary at my job……..I chose …wisely !
I’m reading many of the comments and seeing most people selecting to Omega. I can certainly understand based purely on specs, price and availability. But these are stainless steel watches and there really isn’t intrinsic value to this… functionality wise, I would guess that most people aren’t wearing these watches for its dive or accuracy capabilities. Personally a watch’s value is about the emotion you get when you’re sitting there and looking at your wrist. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to know that if you wanna get out of that watch, you’re not gonna lose a ton of money. Because of that, given the choice, I will always choose a Rolex. I’m curious of all the folks here that selected the Omega, if given the choice at an AD, would you still select the Omega??? Financially it would make no sense to do so knowing the minute you step out with the sub, you can get 50% more than what you paid for it and then go buy the SMP. I think most comments that select the SMP is based on frustration with the lack of availability so for these folks, not having the option to get to Sub at an AD makes them choose an Omega? If your AD is calling you to let you know they have a Sub for you and it costs a few thousand more than a SMP, you would still choose the SMP???
If you lose your love for the omega and sell it you will take a hit. Rolex you won’t as much. Both great watches , have both and love ‘em
I choose watches based on design, but they also have to be as accurate as possible for me. That's part of the kick. The thing I don't get with Rolex fans is, they say it's about history & emotion, but they always drag money into the conversation. People with money don't talk about money and don't need to worry about the finances. The picture I see is that a lot of people who buy Rolex, need that reassurance that they won't lose money and end up in negative equity. I've never heard an Omega owner go on about how much their watch has depreciated. They can obviously afford the hit. They probably make their money through intangible assets/investments.
I think the best option hasn't been mentioned, the Seamaster 300. Classic looks, same great movement, except for the date function, and available at most watch stores that carry Omega. If you're like me, and hate the helium escape valve "wart", and prefer a more classic looking diver, it's the 300 all day long.
Heritage model
I love my 2000 Omega Seamaster. Just had it serviced and looks like the day I bought it. Bought a Panerai 164 in Hong Kong in 2011 from AD, never considered a Rolex.
I think Rolex has over played it's hand.. the Green Seamaster is gorgeous..
Rolex doesn't even play the same game
I bought an SMP in blue/yellow gold (rubber strap) last year and I loved it. However, I picked up a SEIKO SPB143 around Christmas time and since then the Omega hasn’t had a look in despite the seiko keeping horrendous time. Sometimes, our brain works in an illogical way. I’m not sure if I’ll keep the omega as it’s a lot of money to be sat gathering dust…
The only problem I have with my seamaster is the scalloped bezel I find very hard to grip
bought 2020 the black smp300m and last month the green submariner LV. I prefer the SMP
Even regardless of price I'd pick the Seamaster over the Submariner 10 out of 10 times. Factor in the price and it's pretty clear.
That being said, sensible choice as it may be, it still isn't on my shipping list for this year.
If you want the most bang for your Bucks, go 4 the Submariner

There's good watches from Rolex and good watches from Omega. I'd pick Aqua Terra over Datejust, but then pick Milgauss over Railmaster, Speedmaster Racing over Daytona, with Submariner I'd always pick Tudor Black Bay over anything else.
I have a submariner and a seamaster chrono. Very happy with both. The seamaster was a bargain, keeps better time, but I wouldn’t sell my Rolex
Imagine if Omega makes the seamaster in 39mm with lug-to-lug < 47mm (essentially dimensions similar to Black Bay 58)???
All the rolex owners i know like the idea and flex of owning one rather than the watch itself, omega owners on the other hand have been the opposite.
I didn't think rolex was worth the money per say, but after inspecting a few new models... damn, the finishing is gorgeous (i have seen 1% of brands, but the "step up" from oris was noticeable)
Love this channel. It’s so comforting
I really like the green Seamaster + rubber strap look. It's genuinely a great watch and look for water-related activities if you're a well to do person and prefer practicality and appropriate sportiness to simply displaying wealth. It feels more like what these watches were 70 years ago, except improved and modernised.
Also respect for displaying the movement, although it is a lot more spartan than one might expect at the price point.
Wish I had bought the Omega when I had the chance when they first came out. The price started with a 3 then with interest free finance.
Lets address the elephant in the room. The Seamaster has an ugly shaped bezel and when its on a bracelet, its even worse. When selling an accessory, whether to enthusiast or utilitarians, looks matter and the Omega is just ugly. This is why I got a Tudor Black Bay 58 instead of a Seamaster. Its COSC and 200m water resistant and much better looking. Who’s really going diving anyways?
I like the design of both watches, especially the rolex but I hate the magnifying glass, and the omega is way more original
Only if you consider having AR coating on the wrong side of the crystal, a non-tapering bracelet with no on-the-fly adjustment, and a carbuncle of a HEV, "better".
I own both! My Omega Seamaster keeps better timing and it’s better for value for money and you can walk into a Store and sit down and chat with the dealer and buy one right away
A "cheap" ETA derived movement from the Swatch group vs an expensive "in house" movement is in some cases just a marketing strategy to justify higher prices. A lot like the inability to purchase a Rolex unless you are the right type of customer.
Depends on the priority of the owner: prestige or function.
But then again if function were the goal, those in the know would go with other brands. So ultimately, the question of Rolex vs Omega usually goes to Rolex (availability aside)
I got my sub 41mm last year and just bought a green seamaster today. Very happy with them both but for the quality, The seamaster is just better.
15 years ago I bought my first luxury watch, a blue SMP 300. I had a look at Rolex as well but I never felt that desire to get one as I had with the Omega. Later I got into the Planet Ocean lineup, picked up a black 42mm 1st gen. PO and later the orange chronograph. Nowadays I sometimes take a look at Rolex watches but I still do not feel attracted enough to consider spending my money on one.
16 years ago I went to buy a Breitling Aerospace and I figured a year later I would buy the co-pilot bracelet with the timer. When I saw it in person, I didn't like the unfinished look of the bezel or the size. I walked around in disappointment and wandered into another place. I saw some Omegas and tried them on. Bond? Too busy. Electric blue with sword hands? Wow! I'll take it.
After wearing it for weeks, it felt better and better. The smooth sweep. The way it fit, the quality of the steel, the accuracy. Then I go on the internet and see comparisons to Rolex. I don't like the case, I don't like the tapered bracelet. I don't get why people wanted it. I read the Holbrook comparison where he gives the Rolex the win because he surmises the movement would fare better, but has no proof.
On forums some Rolex owners and frankly a lot of others bash the SMP 300. "I wouldn't pay any more that $1500 for that watch." Over the years I watch them kick themselves in the ass as they realized what a watch they passed on. The WISH they could get them for $1500 and opine about how they shouldn't have passed on it.
No service yet. On the timegrapher still runs like a tank and insanely accurate. Then I bought a PO. Then an NZL 32. Then a Sapphire sandwich. Then a 2254.50 and a DeVille Prestige. Happy with every one of them. I ended up doing some work for Rolex who dreads when I walk in with an Omega on. I got to handle a lot of Rolex pieces. Still doesn't do it for me. The Sky Dweller looks good but I think I have enough "dive style" watches (lots of Seikos) and I'm not paying prestige brand prices for a Rolex luxury watch.
ALS, Blancpain, Breguet, VC, and more
Omega is a better watch, the Sub is a classic looker though and thats what makes people lust about it. I prefer the Omega and would not pay the premium for a Rolex, but i know many people who aesthetically don’t like the Omega.
What changed from 2022 to 2023 is that rolex is now overpiced only 90% compared to 100% last year.. Huge difference 🤣
Just depends if you want value for $ or prestige. I view them apples/oranges choices there. Rolex our marketed Omega over the years, yet Omega is the better watch, and less $.
Both watches can coexist in any collection. Both are fantastic. I had them both for a while. If you get the 300M be sure to get it with a good discount or pre-owned. If at one point you want to get rid of it, you will lose a lot of $.
Buy what you love . Same as buying a car etc.
Omega every time, The pedigree, quality and price are all great selling points, I don’t agree with Rolex maintenance practices, e.g Keeping the original parts when adding parts, It should be returned to it’s owner, Rolex snobbery is another bone of contention. Na Omega always
Needed this video so bad. Perfect timing! Looking at my first real luxury watch (my daily beater is a Seiko 5 SRPD65) and I want the wow factor of the Rolex but from what I've learned, omega is the better brand when it comes to value and overall build quality. Looking in the $5k-8k range. I love the omega seamaster with the white dial .. or the Rolex Oyster Perpetual with the light silver dial. Suggestions?
There is no right answer!! Both are awesome in their own way. I know that doesn’t help! That is the whole problem lol
I guess I need to decide whether or not I want to reward Rolex's bad behavior with how badly they treat their customer base. I know Rolex doesn't care about me or my one watch purchase... But if enough people voted with their wallet maybe something good can happen.
@@mikescott6097 hey I’ll tell you I have an outstanding AD that has got me a piece or two. They’re really good people. I go in and talk like a normal person and they’ve helped me out.
In fact they had to watch it I really wanted that. I had to turn down just cause it was bad timing. So don’t rule out the AD. Like all businesses, some are better than others but I really enjoy working with the one I have here locally.
I would buy the Seamater 300 (not the diver one) in blue as its more versatile and looks the best imho
If you love wrist presence omega SMP, but if you prefer bit low profile then OP. I own both, both are great & different in its own way. All the very best. ❤
Prices for Omega have literally just gone up this weekend though. Now you're looking at over £5K for a Seamaster that cost under £4K just a few years ago...begs the question of whether either are worth what you're paying these days?
007 is so destructive that he can't wait 1 year for his watch, this is why he wears a OMEGA than a ROLEX !!!
@@ragnarlothbrok6397 The real James Bond is the one from the books.
Olders ROLEX were cheaper and easier to buy at this times...
...this is why he wears a OMEGA since 1995 ! 😉
ROLEX, SEIKO, TAG and OMEGA of each 007 are great because he survived ! 😁👍
I brought the Seamaster professional last year with the white face and metal bracelet. It’s fantastic. No AD BS was needed and I got a discount from the shop I know. Sorry but don’t really understand the Rolex hype and have to wonder if they generate it themselves 🤔
The Rolex "hype" is mainly the fact that many are impressed with the belief that the wearer has some sort of status.
I believe the Seamaster is a better watch; they certainly keep better time. It all comes down to what pleases the owner.
Omega says that the 8800 movement ranges between 0 +5, mine was +2 everyday. That’s impressive to me. Sadly had to sold my SMP 300 last week, because needed money after a huge motorcycle crash 😢
To be more exact, 8800 is 0/+6.....8900 is 0/+5
BTW, my 8900 is now on +5 seconds over 14 days. Insane accuracy!
Agreed. I’m +8 over 45 days for my 300m. Ridiculous accuracy.
My 8806 is running perfectly on time after setting it 10 days ago. Probably luck/randomness, normally it's a couple of seconds off per day.
✌️
The omega is better technologically, from a history standpoint Americans should prefer it, and you can buy it without dealing with a holes? Higher value than rolex.
Both beautiful watches and luckily they can co exist. The Seamaster is a more lively design, but the Sub is classic and will age better in my opinion.
The sub already has aged better. The SMP looks more and more tacky by the day. Being a watch born out of product placement as the 'commercialised bond watch', it was never a concept that would age well. Look at its bracelet and over designed case shape(the crown guards look like a bird's beak). This is coming from someone that has purchased 3 SMP's over the years. I have always wanted to give the latest iterations a go as they look striking at first... but I always end up selling it. My sub and explorer have stayed with me...
@@explorerjlc1743 Same experience. I still have my sub, but bought and sold 2 variants of the Seamaster. Still thinking about the green Seamaster on rubber though. I think it suits the watch better than the dated bracelet.
@@tfacison yeah. They need to change their bracelet. Also, as cool as the new wave dial is, it’s not going to age well as it looks very clinical. The case shape in the current iteration has simplified, but still looks over designed. I much prefer the PO. It leans on Omegas heritage a lot more. They need to sim it down though…
Agree 100% the sub has and will age better than the SMP.
However I feel they’re totally different in that the smp is more of a fun watch.
Not sure why it’s always a “versus” thing. Why not have both!
@@Superdada Omega vs Rolex is a weird versus thing. They aren't really on the same level. I can see why people compare the SMP to the Sub though, they are both popular dive watches...
Not sure its possible to pick one over the other. Yes, i dont like the AD game with Rolex and it drives me crazy how many non ADs have huge stock of brand new rolexes for sale at big prices. They shouldnt have them anyway. I have 4 rolex (2 subs and 2 gmt IIs), but also have 4 variants of speedmasters. I love them all. They all get about the same amount of wrist time. My next purchase is def a great white. At around USD$5,000.....its a great value for a beast of a watch.
Mind says Omega, heart says Rolex.
100% agree. This reminds me of Honda vs Harley back 20 years ago. The Honda was better in every way, and half the price. Yet everyone still wanted a Harley.
I have a blue SM300 and Speedmaster Racing. Guess what bike I rode?
Cringe
@@tlr-nut7275 Don't know many Honda models sir
I bought a Omega seamaster planet ocean 8900 calibre
I really wish Omega would make a more satisfying bezel to operate. Rolex bezels are such a gold standard in having a satisfying feel to turn and click and fidget with, while the Seamaster perpetually feels like such a struggle. Would make these two a lot closer.
So true! The bezel on my SM300 is a pain in the ass to turn. Not enjoyable like on the Submariner! That is the only negative thing I have with it.
The oyster bracelet is much better as well. Not even in the same league.
That is one of the reasons I bought the Planet Ocean.
@@hugohernandez3651 I thought the bracelet goes without saying haha. I mentioned the bezel because it's something less obvious but once you notice it... it's hard to unnotice
I like both the Rolex Explorer GMT & the Omega Seamaster. I bought both. Still can’t decide which is better after almost 20 years. Just love them both.
Never will be. Never was. Rolex crushes Omega.
I actually love the way the omegas look I've been looking at them a lot recently and I've actually lost interest in Rolex when I seen the quality of omegas .
All you need to know is that given a free choice, the vast vast vast majority would take the submariner
Because it’s double the price? Duh 😂
been wearing my Omega SMP300 for 5 months & have never regretted. I can some times distracted by its gorgeousness and forgot that i am reading the time :-) Can't say the same for Rolex :-)
Omega is still the sensible choice
Omega all day
Bit of a flawed premise there - remind me again when Omega was considered a better purchase than Rolex?
When you could buy a better watch for 1/3 the price
When Rolexes stopped becoming available in ADs and most models stopped being available at retail. Can't be a better buy if they can't even be bought.
Daft question. Omega was top dog before Rolex existed, it's an older company than Rolex. I've had both and prefer my Omegas. But you can't go wrong with either in my view.
I don’t personally aspire to a Rolex but it is quite clear that the majority value Rolex over Omega and availability, price, value or quality are irrelevant to them.
When you have too many Omegas in stock… 🤣
Well seeing as how I'd probably have to buy a handful of different, expensive watches just to be allowed to be considered for the submariner, might as well just get the Omega, and I like Omega more anyways. Would go for one of the piepan constellations though.
Omega is for poor people who can't afford their real dream: Rolex
Not everyone dreams of a Rolex. Nothing special about Rolex except their marketing so youre actually paying more just for the brand.
I own Rolex and other brands but I don't even like Rolex that much. Omega all the way for innovation
@@Sizzle_Bear
you must be right..that's why Rolex outsells Omega by 4-1 and people wait for years for their Rolex..yeah..you must be right 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't dream of Rolex I sold the ones I had in 2021 since price were stupid crazy, we did renovations on the house and I bought more Zeniths I was dreaming of...
Poor people? Whoever can spend more than 5000 euros/dollars/pounds on a single watch you consider them poor? Seriously?
You must be in your teens to write a statement like that, especially here on this channel. Just in case you are a grown man, well buddy, honestly it doesn't seem by reading what you wrote.
@@LaurentiusTriarius I did the same too. Rolex watches are for the younger generation now they know nothing about watches. Zenith is on my list to buy
I have the older James Bond Pearce Brosnan Seamaster. Love it
