HOW TO START A PITCH OR PRESENTATION

- Dominic from inflow.global here with two simple ideas about how to start your pitch or presentation.
#1. Dispense with the niceties!
Too may people start their presentations and speeches with boring small talk. If you want to get your audience off their iPhones and Blackberries you need to grab their attention, so dispense with all the niceties and get them to engage with what you are saying straight away.
#2. Start with a bang!
Do something a little bit different when you start your speech. I don't mean anything crazy, so no big stunts! What I mean is start with something that captures the imagination. Start with a fact, with a figure, with a quote, with a story, maybe a bit of video or a bit of music; something that’s going to really get them engaged. You want people to realise that you have started and for them to start paying you the attention you deserve.

Cheers Dominic. My ESL students will benefit greatly from your words of wisdom. My Spanish students are entering the world of public speaking by creating a movie pitch. Your straightforward and yet creative message will give them the "food for thought" we all need.
You started your presentation exactly in the way yous said it shouldn't start!!!
"I am bla bla and in this video I will be talking about bla bla".
Apart from that, it's a good video and a very good advice.

If a company want to sell a pouch with any person . But that person is a renowned cafeteria with multiple franchises in 24 colleges. the pouch price is 30 INR Max discount is 20 %. but the cafeteria is looking to expand it range of beverages and snacks . Then how to prepare a pitch to that cafeteria to convenience them to purchase 200 units of the company products and if the client wants to purchase 200 units at INR 20 each how will you negotiate the price .if decrease then how to handle

I’m trying to come up with a pitch to get patients. I’m a dental hygiene student and we get graded on the patients we can bring in and clean their teeth. I made business cards so I need to pass them out to the public like in Walmart or mall etc

Why do you start without a bang like you recommend, and say "Hi I am dominic Colenso. In this video I want to..."

To skip the boring intro with big hand-waving gestures ... don't watch this at all.
In print it said how to start a pitch, then you came on video and said this is about "how to start a pitch, then you said don't waste time starting out just get in there and talk about what you have to talk about....I could watch the first minute on speed X2 IF you have nothing to say Don't make a video, and if you though this was good.....Good luck.
