On top of how John here went to heroic lengths to save John, it also warmed my heart seeing the way that poor lady was gently ushered to safety.
You can even see that there were bullets that were shot through the driver side of her vehicle and out the back window. She is quite lucky to be alive, and I can't imagine what she must have went through during all of this. She was just minding her own business when a criminal being chased just wipes both of them out and starts shooting at her vehicle towards cops. Her airbags going off and making her have to try to crawl out underneath them, thus putting her engine block between herself and the suspect, probably saved her life in more ways than one here.
Oh gosh I cannot even imagine how scared she must have been. One minute she's driving down the interstate and the next she's in the middle of double-sided shoot out. Bullets absolutely go through cars. She really is lucky in the overall sense. Hopefully she doesn't get PTSD. 😢

For the insane chaos of this entire event, EVERY one of these officers remained incredibly professional, constant effective communication, safety for crossfire always in comms, effective fire as we see by the amazing outcome, and just incredibly well trained!

The officers kinda reminded me of how everyone on a sports team has to know & understand where everyone is & what they're doing to succeed. Obviously the stakes are a lot higher here, but yes, agreed.
I also think they gave the suspect many opportunities to not be unalived. Dude was deadset on grabbing his own gun til his very end. The lack of survival instinct is befuddling to me.
I used to be a Correctional Officer at a tdc unit where he was at. He was a good guy back then too. Glad he's out and doing good things out here as well
I use to be a criminal too a long time ago and I learned that you get a bigger high off of helping people and animals than doing crimes.

Yes!! I feel this. I’m a recovering heroin addict, 5 years clean. Really, getting caught and arrested saved my life. Nothing better than paying it forward. Even if we just help one person or one animal, I’ve seen how much it can mean to them.

Because of him, he's why I have supported officers and as a 7 year Army Veteran, Johns actions would have earned him a medal but this exposure of such a Heroic and Selfless act seen by Millions, is amazing.

Its the American justice system. Even if someone is convicted of committing a crime there is still just a 50% chance that they actually committed a crime and a 50% chance that what actually happened was they trampled on his rights and got away with it.

That was like watching a war zone! WTF??? Im so impressed that the police were able to be in a crossfire situation, with multiple civilians & only the perp was shot! That is only due to teamwork, training, and trust! And the man that has gotten is life back on track & helped is proof that there is a life after you make a mistake! ❤

@TheDylls depends. Most get that right back if they pay their fines and court costs. You can actually get all your rights back. Even the right to possess a firearm. But you have to petition the court for that one.

This is one of my favorite clips. Here is a felon that came across this wreck. For the felon to risk his own life dragging the officer to safety and then comforting him while they were still under gunfire. The respect he was showing for not only the wounded officer, but all of the others as well.
The teamwork was amazing and i love hearing the communication between the officers being quick and efficient, they were all able to understand and direct each other to get the job done. Lastly I loved seeing Officer Perez taking the initiative on doing his part and his tactical awareness.
I love stories like this. As a LEO, it’s so nice to see people take advantage of the second chance they get in life to do some good.

John is a hero, he ran towards danger to selflessly help a fellow human being rather than running away like most people. Glad he is being formally recognized for his actions. As a former Prison Officer (Australia) hats off to the Gigachad ex-con. I use to see the cycle all the time, crooks come in off the street young, spend two, three, fours terms of being locked up, suddenly they're in their 40's and realised that they've spent half their life being locked up and often destroying their family life, and change their ways and often become model citizens. Sometimes some prisoners see this early and change. I've seen ex-prisoners on the outside go on to do a lot of good, which after 15 years service, I needed to restore my faith in the human race. Well done Gigachad John and speedy recovery to Officer John.
There's a cop in my county jail that did 20 years as a CO in a prison here in the states and he's the only one who treats you like a normal person. I, myself, am a MULTIPLE convicted felon. Also named Jon(athon). Ive been locked up dozens of times (mostly via probation violations as a young teen) and now, my life is different.
I'm now a successful, career minded, home/land owner that backs the LEO community (even though I've had multiple reasons due to terrible cops abusing their power and taking advantage of me not to support them) and love seeing this video. I too, would have done the same. I'm 1yr +/- away from getting my state rights back to own a firearm (never had a violent offense) and look forward to that day.
Point is folks.... Never judge a person just due to their past. I assure you, many ex-criminals, have your 6! LEO, P.O., etc included. I was young. I did dumb shit. I learned and now have a career most would envy. That being said, all persons outside of state/federal custody DESERVE THEIR 2A RIGHTS or they don't deserve to be home! Period.

John just made me tear up good to know there is still hope for us ex cons .I myself did time in prison but it’s been nearly 26 years since I’ve seen the inside of a prison cell .John my hats off 2 you and may this officer recover quickly .
Our oldest is 4 months into parole. He was incarcerated at 17 and just turned 29. He is now in a pretty high-stakes game of Adulting 101. Two months in, he was considering asking for his parole to be revoked because he was under so much strain. We encouraged him to hang in and give himself a chance. His boss is an ex-con who makes a point of hiring other ex-cons, and he gave our son the same encouragement.

John is a straight up HERO!!!! not only that but he has shown the world that not all guys that are ex cons are bad people. Some of us actually do reintegrate back into society and become normal law abiding citizens willing to put our own lives on the line to help save a downed officer.
I can’t blame ex-cons for having an extremely hard time reintegrating. Society let them down from birth and has trodden upon them again and again.

Did the suspect take the driver out of the vehicle with the old lady? If not I hope the driver of her car is alright unless she was the one driving and moved to passenger then I'm glad it looked like she didn't suffer serious injuries

Before even watching this video, I remember seeing this in an episode of On Patrol Live a few weeks ago, and was just absolutely floored by the guy's actions. He is absolutely 100% a hero here.

As someone who had a tib/fib fracture from falling off a rail car, leg injuries are a curse from god when it comes to pain...
not to mention a tourniquet properly applied that high on the thigh is extremely painfully too

I loved in the one cam you could hear the officers tell the other officer to check on his partner. I'm fairly confident they only said that because he was way too worked up from how everything started and was becoming a liability. Great leadership!

When injured, having someone talking to you and showing they care about you can make a world of difference in your ability to deal with the pain and survive. This was a motivational video!
